Raiders Sign Cousins, Draft Mendoza

Even with this move, they're still set to grab Fernando Mendoza as the first overall pick in the draft. Cousins, heading into his 15th NFL season, bring serious experience to the table. He's got prior work with offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak, making him a perfect mentor for the young Mendoza. Plus, Cousins can start early as a bridge guy if the rookie needs time to adjust, or the team isn't fully ready. Coming off a rough 3-win 14-long season, the Raiders had major issues, especially a friend. Their offensive line gave up a leak high 64-secs, constantly pressuring plays and hurting runs for talented back Ashton Johnty. This offseason, they've beefed up the line by signing top-center Tyler Linderbaum and welcoming back Colton Miller after he missed most of last year. On paper, it looks solid, but lines need reps to gel and perform. If those growing pains hit hard next season, Cousins steps in to shield Mendoza from the hits, letting the rookie develop without the full NFL grind.
