Raiders Release QB Geno Smith, Draft Mendoza

The Las Vegas Raiders are parting ways with quarterback Geno Smith after just one rough season. The 35-year-old is set to be released, according to leak sources. The team finished 3 and 14 last year, earning the number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They plan to take Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza with that top spot. Smith struggled big time in Las Vegas, throwing a league worth 17 interceptions over 15 starts. The Raiders went 213 in those games, dropping their final 9 straight with him under center. He missed the last two contests due to shoulder and ankle injuries. Earlier in his career, Smith had a solid run with the Seattle Seahawks. He made two pro-ball teams in 2022 and 2023, leading the league in completion percentage one year with over 4,000. Seattle won 27 and 22, and his three full seasons as starter.
