Lawn time linebacker Rod Martin passed away Monday at age 72, the team announced. He spent his whole 10 year NFL career with the silver and black, drafted in the 12th round out of USC back in 1977. He hit the ground running as a defensive anchor right away. Martin turned into one of those players you build around, locking down the backfield game after game. What made him immortal were those Super Bowl heroics. In Super Bowl 15, he snagged three picks off Philly's Ron Jaworski, a single game record that still holds. Then in 18, his sack and fumble recovery helped crush Washington for another ring. Over his career, Martin racked up 60.5 sacks, 17 interceptions with four returned for scores, plus 10 fumble recoveries and two, more house calls.
He retired after the 1988 season and went back to USC, working in their information science as institute, Raider Nation will forever salute his grit and those championship moments that defined an era.
