Raducanu Seeks Natural Style, New Coach

0:00On March 5th, Imerado Kano, the British number one in 2021 US Open Champion, wants to get back to her natural playing style after years of coaching changes. She's open to working with a full-time coach, but only if they don't try to overhaul her game or bring too much outside pressure from all the attention. Her split with coach Francisco Royek came right after the Australian Open in January due to differences over her style. He's the seventh full-time coach she's had, and she's tired of advice that doesn't fit her instincts. Right now, Mark Petchy is helping out day-to-day at Indian Wells. He coached Andy Murray early on and worked with her last spring, and she says she enjoys practicing with him. Alexis Cantor is also in the mix as a hitting partner with less experience. Roddaconning struggled in the Middle East swing with no wins in Doha or Dubai because of a chest infection, but she's healthy now after a full week of practice adjusting to the desert conditions. She's facing qualifier Anastasia Zaccarova in the second round on Friday, and plans to climb the rankings by trusting her instincts, like taking the ball early and hitting hard to the corners, no matter who's coaching.
