It's March 24th. Welcome to Canada News Today, powered by AI, I'm Corey with The Story. Three men from Quebec now face serious charges in an international cocaine smuggling operation busted by the RCMP. The suspects include 38-year-old Maitu Provost from Saint-Jean, Sir Rochelleu, and 30-year-old Ismail Rodriguez de Acosta from Brossard. Both are charged with conspiracy to import cocaine and possess it for trafficking. Meanwhile, 28-year-old Ahmad Abadi from Carignan faces a charge or possession for the purpose of trafficking. This all ties back to a probe that kicked off in 2022, focusing on efforts to bring drugs from Peru into Quebec. According to officials, two other Canadians, Frederick DeWald and Francis II-Pan Bergevin, were already convicted of cocaine trafficking by Peruvian, police in a related case. The three men are set to appear in court in Longwill, on Tuesday, as the RCMP continues cracking down on these cross-border networks.
