Psalm Chapter 141 - A Psalm of David

About this episode

Psalm 141: A Prayer for Guarded Lips and Deliverance

Psalm 141, a psalm of David, is a cry for God to listen quickly as the psalmist offers prayer like incense and uplifted hands like the evening sacrifice. David asks the Lord to set a watch over his mouth and keep his heart from evil and from sharing in the pleasures of those who work iniquity. He welcomes the correction of the righteous as a kindness and an excellent oil, even while he continues to pray amid calamities and the scattering of bones at the grave’s mouth. With his eyes fixed on God as his trust, he pleads for protection from snares and traps laid by the wicked, and he longs to escape while they fall into their own nets.

Psalm 141, a psalm of David. Lord, I cry unto thee, make haste unto me. Give ear unto my voice when I cry unto thee. Let my prayer be set forth before thee, as incense. And the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Sad to watch, O Lord, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing. To practice, we could work with men that work iniquity and let me not eat of their dantes. Let the righteous smite me. It shall be a kindness, and let him reproof me. It shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head, for yet my prayer shall also be in their calamities. When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words for they are sweet. Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth,

as when one cut it and cleave of the wood upon the earth. But my eyes aren't to thee, O God, the Lord. In thee is my trust. Leave not my soul destitute. Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity. Let the wicked fall into their own nets. Well, that I, with all, escape.
