Psalm 72 Of Solomon

Life Point

About this episode

Psalm 72
Of Solomon.
1
Endow the king with your justice, O God,
    the royal son with your righteousness.
2 May he judge your people in righteousness,
    your afflicted ones with justice.

3 May the mountains bring prosperity to the people,
    the hills the fruit of righteousness.
4 May he defend the afflicted among the people
    and save the children of the needy;
    may he crush the oppressor.
5 May he endure as long as the sun,
    as long as the moon, through all generations.
6 May he be like rain falling on a mown field,
    like showers watering the earth.
7 In his days may the righteous flourish
    and prosperity abound till the moon is no more.

8 May he rule from sea to sea
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 May the desert tribes bow before him
    and his enemies lick the dust.
10 May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores
    bring tribute to him.
May the kings of Sheba and Seba
    present him gifts.
11 May all kings bow down to him
    and all nations serve him.

12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
    the afflicted who have no one to help.
13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy
    and save the needy from death.
14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence,
    for precious is their blood in his sight.

15 Long may he live!
    May gold from Sheba be given him.
May people ever pray for him
    and bless him all day long.
16 May grain abound throughout the land;
    on the tops of the hills may it sway.
May the crops flourish like Lebanon
    and thrive like the grass of the field.
17 May his name endure forever;
    may it continue as long as the sun.

Then all nations will be blessed through him,
    and they will call him blessed.

18 Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel,
    who alone does marvelous deeds.
19 Praise be to his glorious name forever;
    may the whole earth be filled with his glory.
Amen and Amen.

Welcome to Life Point with your host, Pastor Tom Dordey. Good morning, one and all. I am glad you have tuned in today and I hope your day is glorious because it is the glorious day because we serve the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the great I am, and Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. And I'm so grateful for that. I loving Heavenly Father, thank you for another great day. Great day to serve. Great day to share. Great day to be about your business. And I pray all of us are about your business. And Lord bless the listeners. Watch over them in Jesus' name I pray. Amen. Well, I've been enjoying working at the State House this year as a chaplain again. This is, I believe, my 20th year there and it has been so enjoyable. The other day they had a by Idaho Day and I ran into some people that were connected to some people I know. I was, I think it was called Oats. Photography and I asked the girl I said, well, who is who's the owner

because the lady owner I said who's her husband and she told me Jerry Oats and I've known Jerry since he was a little guy and believe me he's no longer a little guy. He's he's a good-sized, nice-looking well-built man but his mother, Nathel who listens to this show regularly has been a dear friend of mine for many, many years and probably one of the best cooks I've ever met. I missed that lint in clam chatter she used to make. I'm telling you what there is I've never in my life to this day had a clam chatter any better and I tell you the truth I never have. The closest thing I've come to in Boise as far as a restaurant goes that I like is is well I know I can't think of the name. It's an outback steakhouse. I like their clam chatter there but there's nothing like Nathel Oats is clam chatter and and Nathel if you're listening today man I love you and you're such a great woman I think you're like 92 or 93 now I lose track of time but but I'm so proud of you and

proud to be connected to your family and it was great seeing Jerry at the state house well anyway after that public service announcement I am now going to talk about Psalm 72 and it's a prayer for the kind of king our world still needs you know and it's traditionally linked to Solomon this Psalm but it stretches far beyond you know it talks about God's heart for leadership and I was so so proud of watching the the state of the union address when when the president said so many people are coming to Christ now so many people are turning to Jesus and he mentioned Charlie Kirk and introduced his wife and it's true we are seeing an upswing in peoples hearts really wanting to turn Jesus and folks that's what it's all about we need to turn to God whether you believe with all the political rhetoric going on one party or the other whatever you believe do not take your eyes off

Jesus Christ and make sure things that you believe align with Jesus Christ coming up now this spring I'm going to have several of the representatives of the house here and there'll be different parties and different people some of them very religious godly people other ones I don't know so much about but I want to I want them to share a little bit and it's not going to be political speeches it's just going to be talking about the importance of our leadership leadership rooted in God's righteousness is so valuable we find in the first verse of this 72nd chapter given the king your justice oh God and your righteousness to the royal son you know it's true authority comes from God you know human business isn't enough in fact there's the time you hear this I have I will have done a week of the book of Proverbs at the state house in my in my prayers and devotions and I'm talking about wisdom I I particularly felt that I needed to share about

wisdom for one week so I'm doing a week I'm going to be using a lot of Proverbs and a week of wisdom and so if you want to go back and and go to the archives of the house of representatives and and listen to my quotes and in my prayers you can I think it starts the week of March 2nd goes through that five days and I'm excited to be able to share that because we all need wisdom I need wisdom more anything I need wisdom to lead my family lead my friends and and influence I have wherever I'm at I now no longer the pastor of the church or I'm not even in on the ministry I'm always be a pastor I go to the church but I'm no longer in charge and so I pray for my pastor today I'm praying for my pastor Allen he is such an enormously good guy and a great preacher you haven't heard a good preacher pastor Allen is a good preacher get online at cloverdillchurch.org and listen to one of his sermons I think you'll you'll be excited about it because the church is growing great things are happening and I'm excited about it I also excited we have we've had some

new folks that have moved in and I think I've mentioned it before pastor Tim moved in from Everwartston where he was a pastor in another church over there him his wife Jane and and he is such a dear man and he's he's got a podcast on I'll have to find out exactly the time and dates of the podcast so you can listen in fact I'm going to have him on my radio show sometime this spring also but you know what we want to hear people that that love the word of God know the word of God and are excited about the word of God you know because God wants us to have a a world led by him he wants to have a government led by him he wants our you know when I look up when I pray on during the legislature I look behind me on the wall behind the great seal it says in God we trust the question is is that true in God do we trust do we trust that God will protect us and lead us and guide us and we put him first we need to and that's many of my prayers is that

God leads our people some will say yes some will say no some have a choice to make but our choice should be serving the Lord Jesus Christ with everything we have verse 4 of chapter 72 says may he defend the cause of the poor give it a little deliverance to the needy to the to the children of the needy you know what we need deliverance we need to help the poor we need to be there for them some people said well they've made their own bed that's why they are they probably have but that doesn't mean we forsake them do not forsake those that are poor you know blessed are the poor in spirit for they shall inherit the kingdom of God we need to be aware of those that really are in need and respond to those things you know we respond to things all over the world to the needs there's so many programs out there I think of convoy of hope who who I've sponsored for years who's tremendous program and taking care of the needy and the hungry and those that have been through crisis and I think of Franklin Graham's organization all the different things that he's

doing for those that are needy and poor and you see him all the time you see these things happen see God's definition of success isn't wealth it's about how the weakest are treated how we treat the vulnerable those that don't have what we have we are such a privileged country you don't believe that just take a trip down to Mexico we take a mission trip every year down there or to one of these other countries around the world and you'll see how wealthy the United States is I watch videos all the time through YouTube and countries around the world and I have never seen so much so many poor people we are a blessed nation but we're also blessed when we give given to the needy is vital you know we need we need peace we've got all these things going on and all these wars and this and that and we'd love to see Ukraine and Russia come to an end to Lord be with Ukraine Russia may they get settled and stop killing people

Lord be with the situation in Iran so many crazy things going on this world that the devil is leading we have to stand up for the king of kings the Lord of lords and make great decisions verse verse three and verse seven of this 72nd chapter says you may may them out and yield prosperity may righteousness flourish and may peace abound and folks that's exactly what needs to we need peace to abound we want to live in a world of peace I'm so tired of hearing all the riots in these different cities all these things going on the chaos the uh just agreement with what is right and trying to make horrible decisions sometimes I think maybe I should be a politician because I get get myself wrapped up and and some of that I don't get wrapped up in Democrat Republican I want to get wrapped up in what is right and righteous before God and what is led by the word of God you know when God's ways are honored lives don't just survive they flourish great

things happen you know and verse 11 says may all kings fall down before him all nation serve him everybody serve him you know Solomon was very wise in his in his in his part and of course he mostly wrote the the Proverbs and Ecclesiastes but they credit this chapter to him in the in the song but yes let the kings fall down on nations serve Almighty God that's what we need we need such a great revival to take place we're saying it church they're growing things are moving but we need it to spread like wildfire we need to teach people to stand up for God's truth you know God's plan isn't just local it's it's all over the world he wants a world to know him God's kingdom is bigger than just the little places that we run and our cultures and things God's kingdom is the world he created the world and he had a plan and his plan was for all people that come to know him and we have got to do what we can to make sure that happens in verse 12 through

14 it says for he delivers the needy when he calls precious is their blood in his sight precious is the blood of the needy unlike earthly rulers who often use people the king values lives every tear matters every person counts every situations count we are precious in the sight of God we are precious in the sight of God and finally in verse 18 and 19 says blessed is the Lord the God of Israel made the whole earth be filled with his glory may the whole earth be filled with his glory God will establish a righteous reign seven Psalm 72 reminds us that you know though human leadership will fail we've seen many kings fail God's kingdom will not and we are pointed to Jesus Christ but the question is are we seeing him are we following him do we believe him do we really believe that he's coming again and that we're

going to spend eternity with him I do I believe it and I believe it could be during our lifetime I don't know I'm not getting into that discussion because I don't know because the Bible says nobody knows the day or the hour but I know one thing I'm going to see him again and is that going to be at a marvelous day it's going to be day we see those that have gone before us I get to see my son again my brothers my parents my friends and I am so gloriously happy that I serve the Lord Jesus Christ and I hope you are to hey Lord bless you today go out and certainly make it up life point is a ministry of the Cloverdale Church of God if you would like a copy of today's broadcast or would like more information about the church please call us at 208 362 1700 or right to Cloverdale Church of God 37 55 South Cloverdale Road or C.
