Sleep Psalms with Bishop T.D. Jakes — Psalm 131. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
00O Lord, my heart is an arrogant, nor my eyes lofty, nor do I concern myself with great manners or things too wonderful for me. From 131 verse 1, Dear Lord, my heart is humble before you. I want the meditations of my heart to be on your greatness instead of my own. My mind can restlessly race with thoughts too lofty for me, so I pray you would ground me tonight, Lord. Guard me against pride and anchor me in humility, like a child content in his mother's arms.
08I want to be comforted in your presence, cradle me in grace and nurse me with your word, guard my soul and establish my hope in you. When the world rages and nations descend into darkness of holy with your righteous hand, I sleep soundly tonight, sheltered in your embrace, in Jesus' name, amen. Thank you for praying with me. I'm Bishop T.D. Jakes inviting you to unwind your mind and spirit with tonight's sleep

If this episode blessed you, follow the podcast, so you never miss a nightly encouragement. Hello, I'm Grace. For tonight's Sleep Psalm by Pray.com, we will be meditating on Psalm 131. In our fast-paced culture, it can be hard to find rest, but a quiet space and rest is what we need to reconnect with God and recharge our faith and to rejuvenate our body and mind.
13Before we listen to God's word, let's take a few minutes to unwind. Unwind from the day and clear our head. Retreat to a space that is free of distractions to help you concentrate on controlling your breathing and relaxing your body. Then get comfortable. You can lie down flat on your back with your arms resting by your side. Or you can sit up in a chair or against the wall. Be sure your back is flat and straight and your neck and shoulders are relaxed. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Find the areas of your body that are tense as you exhale slowly. Release the stress in the muscles in the tense areas of your body. With each breath you take, focus on relaxing different areas, breathe in and out.
20Contract and relax your muscles until your joints soften and your body is free of tension. With your next breath, focus on lifting your stress from the day to the Lord and releasing your anxious thoughts into his hands. Enjoy the freedom you have in his presence. Know you are free from your worries and anxiety. Free from your sin and shame. And free from the demands and difficulties of the day. The Bible tells us contentment comes from trusting the Lord and putting our hope in him. Tonight, rest quietly in the presence of the Lord, trusting you will care for you and do what is right. Some 131 from the King James Version says, Lord, my heart is not haughty nor my eyes lofty.
25Neither do I exercise myself in great matters or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself as a child that is weaned of his mother. My soul is even as a weaned child. Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and forever. True contentment cannot be found in the things of this world, materialism and success will never fully satisfy you because they just leave you wanting more. The God's salvation and his word can satisfy your soul and fulfill your desires. The secret to contentment is trusting the Lord and letting his strength carry you through the day and sustain you through the night. Take the deep breath, humble yourself before the Lord, lift your spirit to exalt the
26one true God. Exhale slowly and surrender control to the Lord. Allow his hands to lead you to his hope, joy and peace rest in his sovereignty, trusting he is in complete control of your surroundings. Think of a time where you put your trust in your intelligence and strength. Think of a time where you felt spiritually superior to others. Confess any pride in your heart. Confess any hurtful words you spoke to others in your arrogance. Ask for the Lord's forgiveness. Ask for the Lord to help you put your trust in him. Take a deep cleansing breath. Allow his forgiveness to wash away your shame. Exhale slowly and surrender to the Lord.
27Know the Lord will never disappoint you. In him you will find contentment and satisfaction. Rejoice in the hope of the Lord. Rejoice in his strength and sovereignty. Thank him for being in control of your life and our world. Thank him for his provision in your life. Thank him for answering your prayers. Think of a person who tries to find contentment in the things of this world. Pray God will turn their heart toward him and help them find satisfaction in his presence and in his provision. Pray they will find rest in a world that never sleeps. Lay your requests before the Lord. Watch him with confidence, knowing he hears you and he cares about your needs and desires.
27Pray God will restore the hope of his people in your community. Pray he will remind them the joy of his salvation and the power of his strength during difficult times. Pray God will help you learn what it means to be content. Pray you will find satisfaction in his provision and rest in his salvation. Pray God's presence will calm you, quiet in your thoughts and soothing your soul. Pray you will find rest in his peace tonight. Breathe in and out slowly. Relax in his presence. Know you are safe and secure in his hands. As you lay down to sleep, allow his peace to refresh your mind, body and soul.
