For sure for sure as you go long your practice what have you learned from him and is it kind of what we expect to be just so for sure I feel like in the recruiting process he kind of let you know how he wants to coach all stuff on I feel like when you get here it's just it's a whole lot of level he's gonna keep coaching well he's gonna be hard on you he's gonna tell you what you're doing okay just gonna tell you what you're doing on and he's gonna push you to be your best yeah it's moving all over yes I was just like for you just getting to be here and see you know this team win an national championship in the first few weeks on campus it was crazy I feel like I knew that they were gonna do it from the beginning of the season I feel like they always had the potential and then they came out here that did it and the freshmen we had an opportunity to sit there and watch it so I feel like now we just got to do it again what did you learn from back just it's all hard work and it's just a bunch of

guys and it's really a brotherhood and it's really just our family first their family and we just got a person here and we got to win the games and get back to the net outline the tart line was saying that car and Alan Brandon have really been leaders and the wrong self what is how have they both been leaders for you and the every young seevers they've been leaders just in multiple ways whether are call them we're in there in the film room together on the jugs I'm asking them about this route hawk or run it better I'm asking them how I run this route on this play just many different things I feel like those guys they're like big brothers and all that does help a valuable is that to have guys that are like they want to open also in college for a while so we're doing good ask them various things about college life I'll valuable it's real valuable for sure because they're they're fresh around pit guys so I feel like just being in a room with those guys and if you're able to thrive with those guys you know something's going good for you what are your impressions that you know what I'm saying I get specific with Tavian what have you kind of known about him and learned about having a relationship with Tavian

he recruited me hard to come here so I feel like we always talked and he came here and he's been doing this thing they've all been doing their thing and Julian saying he's another Cali kiss so I had a little relationship with him too so good to see Julian link and Tavian all doing real good what is that next step for you Julian look like in terms of evolution what do you want to get better at spring? I just really just everything I feel like you can never be too perfect and I feel like you just got to keep doing your job so I say maybe just just showing up more and just doing my job to the tee going to get these corners so these debates how they say they kind of made you better in high school I had a five star corner DJ DJ on Lee he's at Alabama so I always had good work with corners so I feel like it's just a lot I'm going against a lot of good guys now instead of just being one on one that practice with DJ so it's real good for sure because it take more courage to play the slot the downside say to get pleased to take more courage to play the slot the downside what do you mean by that

because there's more stuff but I think there's bigger injuries inside you have to have you've got to be aware of it but it doesn't take more courage to do that um I guess you can say that I feel like I just always play slot enough I feel like that's what I've been better at so I feel like um I feel like it's just what I have to do to be on the salt no matter who's in front of me how big he is how strong he is I feel like if I got in the side man I gotta do it he's the shhh happens and we've got guys who are able to play anything I've been like two weeks but what are your thoughts on the coach Patricia so far? man I really like coach Patricia a lot he's a he's a big uh you know it's what what can he do for you not what can you do for him and he's rola you know he's just trying to serve and help and I've learned so much football and this past two weeks more than I've you know learned in my whole lifetime so it's been it's been it's been great having him and he's a he's a good coach and he teaches and he's talking to me on the mic telling me what I what I see and stuff and it's just

I feel like I'm getting a lot smarter and processing things a lot faster that's the difference for you coming out of you know last year with the injury and everything what it has it been like to take your feet under you and kind of give over the building I mean it feels good I was kind of just throwing right into it and fall keg and I thought I did a pretty well job you know just kind of getting thrown into the fire but you know now after coming back this year and um just things are things click a lot a lot easier and this and I feel like this defense is everyone's clicking and I'm just I'm really studying as much as I can I mean I just live up here all day and you know it's great having sunny and then just even like a guy like Cody last year um just the level of preparation he had every single day was unlike I've ever seen anyone he knew what everybody was doing every single play and so that's what I'm just trying to have trust in the coaches that I can I know what what's going on at all time so I can go in there and do my job. What feels different about this defense? You know the pressure running out that way maybe you'll pick up on mad with new on-swives or anything what do you what do you sense you feel a little bit different?

um I think he's just he's big into playing the player's strengths like if I'm better at this he's gonna put me in this position and if I'm better at this he's gonna put me more in this position and just slow to that I mean we haven't really done much it's only been two weeks but guys are playing into their strengths and um just getting better I mean that's just and we're doing a lot of fundamentals stuff not too much scheme just you know working on tackling getting off blocks yeah absolutely I mean I would say right now he's the best linebacker coach in the country I mean he knows everything about it especially um you know with Patricia being in the NFL um he's he's definitely you know he knows it all and stuff so he's uh he's done good man I it was kind of hard for him I I think it was a little hard you know because he was kind of just thrown in like I was just thrown in the mix um he was trying to give me as many reps as I could

get in fall camp and I'm really grateful for that I mean it was hard for me like you know when fall camp kind of ended um my reps really you know cut down but he did a good job of you know keeping me with the defense um and watching all the plays and stuff and just talking me through everything and you know we built a great relationship and I couldn't be our badful to have him as my coach how did you think you had last question we had thrown in the tire like that were there any moments we thought to yourself like I'm not ready for this is it just feel pretty good I felt pretty good I mean I uh like I said wrestling you kind of get forged in fire and so I think it's just a little bit bad I think the really the hard part for me was just um you know just consistently waking up every day and doing it the mental side of it especially I mean you just don't know a lot of stuff I mean you had never done it before but I wouldn't say the physical stuff was hard I mean I mean obviously it was hard but you know growing up wrestling and you know having older brother beat up on you a little bit it went too bad did you seem like you picked up more special teams

responsibility especially if you're not playing up just like your snap counts of these were higher for you doing more by that one the season that they've had they've heard a little bit more so yeah 100% I mean I was kind of on um all four phases just trying to do my job and just show I'm accountable every week and just I mean you know guys will go down and stuff and stuff and up and you know being on kick off and kick return and get some power turn reps and eat and some pond reps um and as you know I was really grateful to have those you know just being even just being in the games and the playoff games you know seeing the stadium being on the field and having a responsibility um you made a lot that they they were willing to put me out there and they trusted me enough to do my job thank you thank you very much thank you thank you thank you thank you um because again I think especially as an offense um that's really been where my mind's been kind of been kind of noticing the trends as far as our offense can we speak on a lot of other things but in terms of like just the unity off the field I think has been remarkable um just the time spent away I think obviously they could have did all that same stuff here but it's

different when you get to take a trip somewhere to you know you get to go to UCLA use a facility where it's not you know thousand degrees or not you know what I mean um so I think it's awesome to see them get together to do stuff like that one of the off season then we'll can't be in terms of just being on the same page with whoever is at who's ever next to you with left guard and establishing that continuity there yeah I mean I think um just just going just going into this off season I knew that just going to you know as far as who would be the left guard is was was was going to be up in the air so I think for me just starting out I took it something that was kind of important to me that whoever was everyone competing for that spot I wanted to create a bond with them um because I feel like a tackle guard bond is important in terms of communication understanding because again a left tackle is only as good as guard is and vice versa you know what I mean so I feel like I've done a good enough job so far of starting to develop that relationship with each potential guy so that way as we as spot as a spot is getting you know as people start to

compete for that spot um again I feel like I should be able to I should be able to pop in with whoever and we should continue to keep the standard of the standard if that makes sense that's my mindset first there's a guy competing for a spot and I've never spent any time with him just one all one during the summer just taking reps before camp hey it was coming to facility it was to XYZ let's talk about this tape XYZ then they come in and then now there's no kind of flow so now I'm not really seeing how that how we're going to fit together but I want to fit with as many people at left guard as possible that way when the decision has been made there's no new start-up process I got to start over my process with this guy it's kind of already been flown that makes sense that's what tackle is a position that draws a lot of focus arguably it's more pressure than the position on the line uh senior opinion what is what is the problem mindset to succeed at that position I think that the mindset for me as always has been um that when I win my a one-on-one the ball goes

down the field you know what I mean um so and I think that's what I'm most excited about just being a left tackle is that especially with the protections that are a little bit a longer plays where the left tackle tends to be a one-on-one or my my the plays I tend to love the most because kind of like halfway through the play we're locking them up and you just know that he can't go anywhere start a smile a little bit you're like oh dude balls gone you know what I mean like balls gone and it's going to be a touchdown it's going to be a huge gain just um so I think for me that's kind of the mindset you kind of have to have the left tackle spot as that as soon as I win like my rep we're going down the field so um that's just the mindset I have in terms of how well I have to prepare honestly I'll say that mindset kind of came from college again obviously I played with a lot of great guys in college you know I'm glad we have all those guys here you know what I mean

to throw the ball to as well just because against one of those things like with CJ you just again a left tackle my mind so it's just let CJ just do his thing and that's my thing I want Kyle already be able to do his thing don't worry about whoever's over here just do your thing that's why you're here and just throw at the Marvin and you know it will be and will be good you know what I mean um so that's something excited about and I think all that starts because of what we do on the line so when I think just not just myself but the entire room takes pride in hey like when we do our job up front that's where everything else goes so let these guys we have with the ball in our hands do all that all that magic we just got to do our job just take it when you're one on one you know just playing that that spot means something special just because of the the history of that position and you know just of all the greats that have played left tackle I mean do you ever think about just the past and the you know the people the players before you who were in that spot and did great things yeah I mean again I feel like just from just as a young guy in a game I of course

try to I like to watch the the greats the game I like to watch guys like a weight worth of course you know will the Anderson you know he played on the right side but again I think continuing to watch the greats that play the game just can take the dominate for those guys from me be able to talk to them again to be able to learn from their story and their journey and how they developed of course I understand I want to create a I want my game to be able to be like there's an a way to where it's talked about in a way of like that's a guy you need to watch just to watch with you know the fight that you played with the finish that you played with and the technique you played with because those guys played almost 20 years you know what I mean so and again I think that's something when you watch the guys though the legendary guys come before yeah you know they're strong they're tough guys but you know I don't know but when you're like 36 37 years old you probably not that's not as strong as you used to but that technique and just the skill set that's something

that I admire you mentioned earlier about the guys going out to UCLA and kind of getting curious when you're working out here do you do anything outside or do you avoid it altogether right now I don't know I'm always outside I'm always outside I'm honestly I don't mind the heat I love the heat um and honestly for me it helps I'm off like 30 20 so I kind of warm up quickly so it's kind of nice for my warmup I don't have to be doing like 30 minute warmup you know you kind of just be outside long enough collect this and your joints are on go so um I actually I I like you know uh go going back to the players that have been in the league for a while Kevin Beachham is one of those guys that's been the league for a decade plus what have you been able to learn from him um I think again just learning how to be a pro in terms of in terms of certain things like for example I'm a guy that when I like to train by myself I'll just take a thousand reps of a set a thousand reps of a a reach block I'm a rep rep rep rep and tie figure I've done

a hundred times and I wrote perfect and some of that beach is like talking about in terms of being a pro and I thought to me that's me being a pro is a young guy thick I've a lot of I reps my body so I'm gonna take a lot of reps and preparation but beach is a guy where it's like it's not about necessarily the quantity in terms of it's really through the quality but but even more so he's like you know you're off season you don't got to be doing something like this every single day but when you do it like from your first rep even your first rep is not like you're I'm taking this rep oh it wasn't good it's gonna be better on the second one like each rep even when you're by yourself is just kind of I guess a mindset like just give yourself 15 reps instead of doing 60 reps and I sounds like a huge difference but then you out of mind taking 60 reps from by myself and there's nobody does waiting around on me and I'm by myself I can I'll take my time and I'll do that but just being like I'm gonna do 15 perfect reps and I'm just gonna slow down and take all my time stuff like that that way your body I way you're not you're not you're not doing too much before

camp you know many of the guys that left guard in the mix were here last year except forever how does that relationship develop around other overseas yeah I mean so honestly I like that that's my guy we like to compete we've been competing in the weight room since day one in terms of just like what we consider like athletic competitions so like even in the weight room I'm at the very end of the week when we're done lifting I'll talk to Evan I'll be out now you're staying and we'll just do some sort of competition whether it's grip or whether it's jump or where it's pull ups or something and I don't let them wave until I beat them in these two things like so if we do if we do a jump thing and like I always thought was the best kind of I had the most height when I jumped out of O-line I could dominate anybody and that but he beat me and that surprising size alright and then we're hopping on the bike and then we did this bike thing I beat him on a bike and we're now we're gonna pull up so I beat him on a personal kid now we can leave you know what I mean but like we just have that that in words is always just competing and and then again

obviously you know he wasn't on the team with us last year but I think what he brings at the table with being a vet is that he's like a plug and play guy you know he knows he's been in those scenarios before he's played with guys like Penae when he was with Detroit so obviously he's being able to talk to him and how this is how it was when I was setting with Penae this is how it was I was saying to Siarax these are the different things that I can do that made some things like in your game how you set and I'll talk to him about what I like to do in certain scenarios and how his set can sort of match that because that makes sense so I think he adds a lot to the point the way of strength coaches like you guys got to go like yeah you got you guys should go you know we're not trying to we're not trying to break any rules around here but you know but it's just me and him just going and he loves it you know so and even us starting to do that we started to get other guys in the O line that tried to hop in on our competition for fun

but only matters what be Evan it's just fine I'm just beating you you know so it's fun oh yeah oh yeah like walking here and seeing him all over the wall oh yeah seeing like he said seeing him just face on the walls and stuff like that it's really awesome does he say does he say that oh oh actually the tight ends have been super welcoming welcoming the G.H. Sean and

Chris Cee they've been super welcoming they've done a lot of things and yes I guess the the pretty end process and I don't want to be welcoming and you guys did a few but I'm appreciate me So all the media stuff is in here. I'm definitely seeing it. I touched on it very clearly. And since there's a bunch of guys in the center of the lockdown, it's nothing to do with much of the jump. At first, I thought it was. But I once heard this play football and everyone seemed about it through the same. Just like you kind of opened up here.

Well, sorry. Somebody wrote this. I was really worried before you had a new mind. But I was just kind of worried they should be reaching out for news. I'm really worried about your expectations. I mean, that's good. No, I touched on it earlier. No, you're good. It was a hard process for me, my friend. I entered into the ladies' league. There was this stuff. And right now, I'm really. And I knew I could play at the slam boards. Didn't know where I had it. I was just getting a bunch of attention all over and I was serious, so that's me. I didn't even mention how friends were fighting. So what did you think then? You put on that? Absolutely. You can stand out with me? No, I believe on the selfless player. I'd be anything that takes good care of the player. I think I can push down there. A.R. It's a lot harder. I can get my nose there. This is a slow football game.

When the competition, I don't know how quickly it goes. It's interesting to you that you want to see the world do like, here's what you're role. But what happened is that part of the initial reshoot mission? Sorry, did put that. What is just, what is really interesting in use? How we like, why were we usually? Is that part of the initial conversation with that? Is that later on, once you get here? Yes or no? I mean, nothing's given. I mean, you definitely come out of the party. So, you're going to come to the party. You bring somebody that could potentially fill in the role. And you can watch out for it. It's my role as part of the game. I hope I can look at that. I think, well, when you said you feel like you could play at this level, how long have you been talking to you think that come out of high school? You just had to buy your time really? Absolutely. You know what? You know what? I just, since high school that I had to send me,

the recruiting process really difficult for me. We had time with COVID and stuff like that. And I was blessed with a lot of time from Ohio. And I just continue to work there. And I'm still sorry. I'm playing a higher for that team. And then, all you said, it was familiar with the city and the portals. I tried to make that next level where I thought I could have done it. I'm sure a lot of guys went through that. We were in the beans. I'm not getting the exposure. I should be getting it. I know what's happening in the world. I was just looking back and getting some of the things to do with that. I think it's funny to you or how do we become more familiar with it? You got to where you want to get your ear. It's a different path. No, it was really exciting and very stressful process. But like you said, this is the path I got here. And I don't feel like I got here.

It's really what we're here at. How were you seeing it? Where would you say you made the most right-wing story? I don't know. You went there and you better come up with that. How much better before you are here now? What area is it? Yeah, so my freshman year, I was red-shared. And we had a really good time at that time. And I was on scout team. And that's where I was just every day I put on the work and a treat that I like my game. So that's where I got acclimated to the college level. I was born in my sophomore year and this past junior year, I went to your sophomore year. It was really where I made my impact on the field. I mean, all my coaches, you believe in me there. And I love all those coaches down there. I'm a great program. And it's quite a lot of faith in me. Back in that news, I tried to make plays. Is there a girl besides Ohio State? Yeah.

But you were in the middle of the corner. Oh, there's a head in the field. There's a couple of schools in the SEC and some big high schools. But like I said, Ohio State really caught my eye and I'm a freshman. I was a freshman in the first school and I could be a student. I knew to do this anywhere else besides Ohio State. I did not. Well, it was a little good about the way you think it was real. Sorry. Just getting to the field and getting to your life because the pathway is certain to you. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Nothing's given to me. I got to work for every minute of playing time. But that's my open goal. I'm going to have to work with you. What's your strong spirit? Well, yeah. Hello, Ralph. Yeah, I love lockings. I feel like that's one thing that I could separate myself from others. I love lockings and I can't just see this.

How do you put it in? Awesome. Yeah, first week, I mean, I just realized I'm talking to you about it. I was like a bit of a settle-in and I got to know a lot of the guys. I'm about to work now. Good? Oh, yeah, they're easy. I just had one. I had a pretty solid one. Yeah, I'm feeling good. Yeah. I feel good. Oh, yeah, I know. I think they have a little bit of password. They look just really nice. And they're fast. Yeah, yes. For you to actually have pretty good. Yeah. And so to be honest with you through many of the things you got all together today, it could be related. Thank you, Ralph. Iolé. It's all over and together. They're both young guys and they're a super person to go.

They're not like coaches being at the street. I'm like, they make a tree of me like, where do I put buttons, stuff like that. That's a maybe, maybe I got through, I get to know them, and then they think I have a little bit of a push. There's just all of these things. Where is there anything you can do to stay in? No, I'd say it's super, super similar, especially locked and wide. Like, I'll try to do the same job done. This is the source of my field of the difference, but I think it's been somewhat what do you think you can see down the people with name, watching you play here? Just how hard I go, and just like how I can see there's blocks there. They just play with me. And that's the goal. And I think it's hard for me to see anything. It's just awesome culture, and culture is super simple. Yeah, he's answered it out. He's a traditional group.

It was a little rough in the game. I know a bunch of people here, but I was still welcoming, and now I'm trying to understand. I feel like you and me and you are all prominent in the other hand, right? Yeah, I mean everyone's different. We've got still-sized sort of people, so it's probably been a little bit of a start. I'm excited about it. Really? Like those guys that do the cool cover games. How much does it give you the flag and the flag on the back? How much does it give you the flag? Oh, it's just one of the best defenses in the transfer. I think that'll be awesome for me. It's just how I can use it. I'm going to do some of the best games around the red light that I've owned. It's awesome. Do you like the style of the red light? I think it's always white. There's people like this. Yeah, I think that's one of the things that you do. Yeah. What is it like for you?

No, I think Athens is an awesome place. No, I don't know. I mean, again, they are like footballs in the trees. I'm happy that's a lot of fun. I love that. I love this. I mean, it's close by. I'm sure I'll visit here in the near future. But, yeah, I just wanted to talk to you about that. Can you tell me how do you know how to do this? I see the kids. I see the kids. They kind of understand what we do. You know, I think that you're in the parker's. How do you know what to do? You know, I think you're in the parker's. How do you know what to do? You know, I think you're in the parker's. You know, I think you're in the parker's. All those guys want the best for the play. They're really good people. Really good coaches.

And we're just around the corner of the mall. All the players are sitting there. They're so cool. That's great. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You know, you're amazing. Thank you. Thank you. You're welcome. Well, I haven't got the play anymore. So I put a huge test to the end here, but just like the culture and the author and stuff like that, when the same goes up to the second goal, all the other things you do. Yeah, I like it. First impressions of goal, huh? Awesome, awesome guy, he's super friendly. He came out and reached out to us when we're running out of skins to make sure we're here, and then he's always wanting to get the best of us,

making sure that we're on top of our stuff. It's really, really, really easy. I just wanted to ask you to walk in through 24 hours to get to the side. Yeah, so I was a late transfer portal, and we wrote a lot of stuff for my family, just that we were on auction. And I was pretty stressful when I entered the portal, and there's a lot of cultures that I reach now, but I'm honestly just going to get on the coach and I'm just so excited to be back on the coach, and I'm just really impressed with him, and I think this is not easy to handle. The thing that was so hot and wasn't just a traction, but it's like, you know, this is what you're playing on to before. Well, honestly, just opportunity was, Ohio is my only home for high school, so it's screwed up a lot of stuff,

and I'm super grateful to have you guys. We're behind the best of the way, but yeah, that's why I came out here, and yeah, how am I going to have to do that? How long does it take to get you here? I'm off the field. You guys are the only ones here. You know, there are lots of people, you know, it's not necessarily cool to hear. People saw me with the belief in me. There's a few of us, right?

Yeah, I love the good fellow speech. There's a good fellow speech in that room. I think you've got a nice thoughts on what they've been doing. And obviously, they're all up there. Did you get a lot of back from it? Yeah, I was working on team team, but I'm doing it so, I'm just going to say, thank you. Thank you. I'm learning the program, how we work here. I kind of feel like a freshman. So I kind of have to get on task and figure out how things work here. And then once I earn my job,

I'm going to have to get to work here. I'm going to have to work here. I'm going to have to work here. And figure out how things work here. And then once I earn the respect of my teammates, then I can continue on the leadership role. The right side is blocked. I mean, it's kind of like a question. So I think I can tell you that you had conversations on the plan and what are your thoughts? I can talk about how I can point you to the moment that you're on the right side. I'm not really sure about that, because you know, I came here just as an offensive lineman. I didn't really come for a specific position. I've been in a lot of town in the room, and I'm just going to try to fit in the best way I can. So you could see I got an athlete in a list of cards. I'm not sure. That's up to the coaches to decide. But I am here just to help the success of this program and whatever the coach has seen. How are you getting all of the guys? I really like Will. Will's a great guy.

And he's had a coming of experience and he'll be really excited to play with him. What's better being a streeter than a streeter? Being a streeter than a streeter than a streeter than a streeter? Neither. I hated the recruiting process. Kind of in both sense, you know, the transfer portal period is so short. I was home from the Rose Bowl on Wednesday, I think, and I was up here Thursday. And then I came up here like on Saturday. So as an enrollees. So that was really quick. But yeah, I've never really been a fan of all the hype and the who-run of the recruiting process. Hey, Seth, I think a lot of people in this day now, the portal, how do you go from being a true Alabama player to come into a higher state and go, and I'm a fuck-eye now. And not just you, but a lot of other players who are transferring in the portal. I think I did manage of being there for four years. You know, I love Alabama. I have two degrees from Alabama. That's always going to be my alma mater.

And I so appreciative for everything that I've done there and everything that's been given to me there. But just as a, you know, we're playing the sport to be professionals. And I've just thought for my benefit that change would be good. But I am very thankful for everything I was received from Alabama, their fans. I love them. But it's just going to be a fun new adventure. Are you looking forward to playing in the shoe? Yeah. I think one of the craziest things is, you know, playing in all those S.C. stadiums and growing up in the S.C. I really never, I was never really a huge big 10 football watcher. So kind of getting to experience this type of culture and see the love for the game up here. It's been fun. It's been colder. I did grow up in the South. So some of the really cold weather I've never been used to. But I get hot easily. So I don't love the heat. How do you do that after you're in the middle of school?

What was that? What was your role at Jumperman? And then you get to create a sport to that. You know, when you go through something like that, you kind of have to sit down and look at yourself and be like, okay, who am I as a person? What am I? And I kind of just sat down and thought about, you know, where can I go from here? I can't control what happened in the past. I can't control the public reaction to that. But I'm here now. I'm in a great place to continue my development and play for an incredible program, play for incredible coaches. So really, I'm very positive. I have no negative feelings about what happened. You know, it is what it is type of thing. So it's exciting and important. I have started, I forget how many games I've started. I've started over 20th Center, but I'm open to doing whatever it takes to,

you know, help this program when football games. Do you play the given fact on games by the time you get to your high school? I play tack on high school. That's kind of like every single offense, alignment and college plays tack for their high school program. But I practice guard a little bit throughout my career at Alabama. But really, it's just an interior offense aligns kind of all the same. Did you, after that Michigan game, did you check your social media off? I mean, you know, you pay attention to what's going on out there? No, not really. It doesn't really affect you. Yeah. That's kind of the thing about social media. You know, I've heard that, you know, you know, you can't pass your back. You can't listen to them. Somebody, you know, knocking you down, you can't listen to them. Because at the end of the day, nobody out there really knows exactly what goes into it unless they've been in the position. Hey, y'all, it's just over time. I'm the head of the team. You just walked up to the U.A. and asked this, what do you think you guys playing at Alabama and stealing you?

It's maybe a little different from the average guy. What do y'all bring to this program in that regard? I think playing four years with Coach Sabin is tremendous for your personal development. You know, having him talk to you each and every single day about what it takes to be a man, what it takes to be successful, I think it's a lot of people in the country who regard this up for fashion would pay a lot of money to have that experience with Coach Sabin, his leadership. Do you imagine that you're born in Florida and you're a student? What do you learn about taking some football distribution in the Middle East and in the East East? It's tough hard to know football from what I've gathered so far. It's been very fun to just talk to the guys and hear their experiences and talk to them about my experiences and just kind of look to see how it's different, how the goods are in the bad, so. Did you think you think you were born with my friends? I don't believe so, I'm not sure.

I think that's the only thing that's not there is just the quality of the football. There's a production out there of the F&C, if you only thought you were born with football. Would it, I would use a lot of force and gather. I mean, good football teams are good football teams. They're built on toughness, they have the size, they have the talent. So, kind of when you get to those games, you don't really tell them it's all good football teams kind of resemble each other in some sort of way. You mentioned it's kind of not like you didn't have for the football team. What are the pitches like? How do they feel first in the year? What emotions do you have in the game? What are the experiences you have? I think you have the experience of what you've done and you know kind of what works and what coaching styles you're more adapt to. So, when you talk to the coaches that's really about how can you make me better? Not necessarily how can you develop me into the player that I need to be from where I was. I was like 6'3", 260 pounds coming out of high school.

So, that was really more about what can the weight staff do, what can the nutrition staff do to put the weight on me. But now it's kind of just about developing as a football player. I think that's just a bit of a good experience. Sometimes, the way that it was well, the music stuff is going on, and I think that you know you don't have to discuss it. It's both making it difficult to do it. What are the thoughts of what you were thinking about? He's a very impressive guy. He's very intelligent. He's smart. He's played in a lot of games. He's a big 12 champion. He's won championship games. So, kind of going and playing with a quarterback that knows how to win games was a super big thing to make. That's my main goal as to win football games in my 10 years. What have you noticed in the club that's around here in the first hour when you've been here and all your games are coming back for another shot? What's your good at you about the atmosphere? I guess about finishing the job. I think it's impressive. I think it's a testament to the culture here.

In my two short weeks, I can tell how much guys love about this program and care about this program and care about their legacy. You know, you had so many guys that could have been drafted this year that came back. I don't want to speak for them, but it sounds like it's because they think they have unfinished business and they want to win all the games and they want to leave the legacy here. Did you find out how to do it? It didn't factor into my decision at all. Just wanted to come because really, whatever happens now, it doesn't matter if you don't make it to the NFL. And I wanted to go to a place that could put me there. What did you react to when you were in the table in the club? I was excited. I've been watching Caleb for a year now at Alabama. And he was very, very impressive. He walked in and he acted like a third year starter. He was a veteran. And it's very rare from a freshman. So he's one of the most impressive freshmen I've ever seen through Alabama.

I didn't really get to watch a lot of him playing football. He was over on the other field, just with the quarterbacks. But from what I've heard from the other quarterbacks at Alabama, that I'm really good friends with is that he's a great guy. He's very talented. So we're excited to have him. Yeah, I came to college before and I always a thing. So it was literally not a topic. But it's a part of the world we live in today. And it's something to think about for some people. If that's what they're interested in. But I'm really just excited to be here in Columbus and have the opportunities that football presents. I think he brings a ton of experience. He's a great coach. He's had a proven track record of being a good coach. In our time at Alabama, he put up a lot of points.

So it'll be fun to watch what he does with this on. What do you think? What do you like to play for? I noticed it's amazing. How would you describe what he's like in that role? I think the most important thing is a player for Coach O'Brien. His pro background. He expects you to handle yourself like a pro. He expects you to prepare like a pro. And anything short of that, he's not a big fan of, which is understandable. Could you notice the insight he gave you about the game? You know, the little bit made you around him. But he's been in the NFL. I mean, you know, he has that show up. I mean, not necessarily how it would expect you to use him from a game of landing at the back of the show. He knows who the guys are. And he's going to get the ball in their hands, you know, whatever it takes. So. That's the third place for the next one. The fifth place for the next one. Why? What kind of experience did you have? They had a kid that couldn't snap the football. I was my first time walking out there. Okay, mine was well, tried this guy at center. And the coach is most of an incredible.

If they could tell that I was going to develop into a college center. So I still keep in touch with my, you know, nine year old football coach and he kind of takes credit for putting me in that position in his foresight. So that's kind of funny. But when you got football at that point? Yeah, it was. It was. Kind of just being the guy up in front, making the calls. I like doing that. I like the intellectual part of the game. I'm a student of the game. So it's a lot of fun learning and trying to, you know, kind of get everybody on the same page. That's what I like about it. I'm so part of the ball. I feel you're in college. Especially in traditional learning. It's called. You know, it's a great way to have a career at high school. How do you see it as well? Now it's kind of just based on instinct. You know, I don't necessarily know the whole picture. But if I look in this sandbox over here, I kind of know what's everywhere else. So once you start learning the game, it kind of becomes more instinctual. Hey, I'm not trying to. I'm thinking thorny right now. But you know, once we gave him a night of fetching the homes,

you know, there's low snaps in that game. And he was able to handle on the air. So I want to say that the center somehow filled through a little bit of a rut in the shotguns map and the physical smash. The other just kind of have to get out of. You're trying to get out of it. Yeah, not really. I mean, kind of just part of playing the game. Yeah, if you're a point guard in basketball, and you're not hitting your free throws, you're not doing what the team needs to do to win. The Creed Hunter is one of the best centers in the game. And I can't, I can't talk about what was going on. But I mean, it didn't really impact the game. But you got a lot going on in front of it. Something that you don't need for a snap. I mean, I mean, concentrate on that snap before anything else. I mean, the snaps just part of your instinct. It's just getting the ball back there. You kind of don't really think about it. You kind of throw the ball back there. And without how many reps that you bank, you've got thousands of thousands of thousands of reps. Usually it's just going to go back there straight. That's at Alabama right here interacting. Maybe you can just do it for a few years. I mean, take your official position here.

What about Justin Bryan? Ryan? Just talk to him. That makes you feel like I need to be here to help them try to win that. Just their plan and their excitement for winning. That Coach Day has been incredible to talk to you. I didn't, I wasn't recruited by Ohio State out of high school that much. So getting up here and seeing everything for the first time was a very telling experience. And Coach Fry sat me down and had a good plan for me. And that was exciting to hear as a football player. I know you were carrying the whole engine in high school. How long did you know that you'd be in and you'd be possible to win all the football you think you're in? I talked to him a little bit. I just asked him about, you know, what he knew about Coach Day and Coach Fry. And he had nothing to positive things to say. Did you talk to Ohio State every little fellow that I mean? You're very interested in Ohio State more than maybe anyone else? Yeah, it was. And I was kind of attributed to my first, it being my first visit. Yeah. They were very proactive about, you know, as soon as I entered the portal,

they were one of the first people to call me. And they were very proactive to getting me here and getting me here first. And they just knew the process of how important that was to do our short time insurance. I know Adrian Q from one year, I do as well. You know him and what you're practicing in here. He was a eighth grader, I believe, my senior year. Did he show his self in that? Yeah, he looked the same size he was now. I felt like as a senior in high school because he's always been a huge guy. So I'm excited to see how he develops and how he brings the culture of Buford here. I was thinking about what was maybe your nine-year-old team, what was your year? The team you're on. It's more of a composition, you know what I'm saying? Not any hits of the DBs. I'm two-thirty going against someone who's two or five, you know what I'm saying? I'm expecting to win. So I love the composition aspect of it. Yeah, Cody said you came in and said, well, it's already bigger than most of the line. Are you playing Will and Sam?

How was the position? I've been working on both, yes. Is there any, like, fundamental difference between the two in terms of the same sense? Um, in the obviously the Sanctuary more outside of the linebacker overhang. You can be walked up on the edge on the tight end, Will's more inside the box. I think the biggest difference from Sam and Will, Sam, you just got to be more outside sometimes during the slot with two. You know, but I think it's similar concept because you can do the same thing in the boundary. It's almost more like the Sanctuary to the field and Will's at the boundary. So I think it's pretty similar, honestly. The only difference is that Sam, last year I never really was an interior run fitter like in the A gap, you know, going A to B or whatever that, whatever that might be. So that's a little different. But I mean, I think I got some of that experience at safety just from a few yards back. So like I said, the only difference really is now just suggesting the less time. Yeah, yeah, Coach, how's it coming from where you coming from? You have a better perspective of what's going on. Yeah, yeah.

I feel like I have a great understanding of the defense. I think that safety, I kind of already knew what the linebacks are doing. So now what I'm really starting to learn is like exactly like every little detail what the D lines doing. That's not really what I didn't know every little aspect of it. I think I'm starting to learn that now because obviously the linebacker got to be knowing that more. So I think when it's all said, no, I think I have a really, really good understanding of the defense and knowing exactly what everyone's doing. I think you feel like you're warm enough to remember in the mix of the defense too. And that lineback here is not exciting because you can drop in one minute pass rested that you or me. I don't think you can come with that anyway. Yeah, actually, I think you can say it'll be an linebacker in the play. You're almost in every play. Yeah. Obviously the play can run away from you. But you know, it saves you sometimes you're just back there playing every guest. You take two back battles and it's a tackle. So I think yeah, a linebacker, you're in the play more. More chance, more opportunities to make tackles. And you feel comfortable there. I mean, what does that, you know, obviously your fans stay in that linebacker. Yeah, I feel super comfortable with it. Like I said, I think it's just going to be adjustment. You know, obviously he's different playing from a five than it was from playing from like 10 last year.

So I think it's an adjustment, but I'm super comfortable with it. So I need to talk to your dad and give you any advice on the new position? Oh, yeah, we watch table all the time. Watch practice. You know, he was a high level linebacker. And I'm just getting started with this. He gets a little shit with little footwork and stuff like that. It's good. I get good teaching him, you know, obviously coach Lord Knight is great player, great teacher for him, coach knows. You know, he's a super smart football mind. So I'm getting great teaching all around. The linebacker, everything happens quicker for you. How much did the experience playing some of that sandwich got by your help? I think it helped a little bit. It's been like in terms of physicality being in the box down on the line. But I do think the run fit as a will and a Sam can be a little different. And like I said, like being an interior fitter, like your 30 backer, you get pools, like you're going to go spill it. So things like that. But I think I'm adjusting well.

I think I'm picking up on stuff pretty fast. You know, there's still going to be a lot of stuff for work on though. Do you feel more pressure talking to the media with your brother sitting right there? Not at all. What do you think has been the biggest change from linebacker to safety climate? I think the biggest change would probably be that 10 to 5. Because it's a big adjustment because everything's happening faster. And you got to react faster. And like I said, the waist and movements. I think footwork is huge. I think when you see the great linebackers, seems to play happens are going. They're not taking any waist steps or not fall stepping, things like that. So I think waist and movement and being able to see what's happening react fast. It's been a big spin fitter being the same team with your brother. I mean, you know you got someone out there that's it's more than a team. You know, we call each other brothers, but you know, bloods, bloods a little thicker. So that's always pretty cool. It's always, it's never one on one. Yeah, but when he tells you something, he doesn't observe that.

Do you know it's coming from? Yeah, I think when you're blood like that, I think he's not scared to tell me the truth. You know, you know, obviously guys here, we have tough love. But I think it's always going to be a little different when it's your brother. Because he going to keep it 100% blunt exactly what you need to hear. Now what you want to hear? What's your advice on playing dick? Oh, for him. I mean, he just so I've let it he got to keep trusting his instincts. I think he's going to be great. I think what's huge for him is like I said, the athletic ability speed. You know, he blitz off the edge. He's be blitzing super fast. And he's just great in coverage too. So I think something really good. I think we're going to do a lot of different things kind of like you to a handcock. Obviously, a little different body than a handcock, but I think he's going to be really good at once. It's not feel. He's needs, he's needs his time. Thank you. Great. Thank you. How would you describe it? Yeah, so what coach Lachlan, I mean, I've only been around him for a day. So I don't really know, but as you can see where he's coaching.

How he is as a person, he's very high energy. He's very intense, you know, and I think he's very hands on. So I think it'll be awesome to be working with coach Lachlan. What's your opinion of soft fast tricks? What's your opinion of soft fast cookies? I think you're into that opinion of first meeting with you guys though. No, not yet. I want to use a port as a city. You said you had a new venue for a new event. How many different actions do you have? A lot. So we're from the same city. We're from the same city. We're from the same place. At Florida State, you know, he worked on that staff with coach Johnson. And they offered me out of high school. So the relationship was already there then. And we just continue to build on from then. What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it? It meant a lot, you know, just the things that we talked about since I was younger in high school, you know. Just to have that opportunity to go and play there. So awesome. What's the rest of the spirit look like for you? Do you want to see yourself get there? Yeah, just to continue to improve all around, you know.

Continue to learn the offense and get involved in everywhere that I can on the field. And just be able to improve my game all around. I know we were only in here for a Saturday. We haven't seen you guys practice a lot. So you come out of the backfield, catch your touchdown pass from Will. Are you pushing to continue to get better out of the backfield? And where do you feel like you are as far as learning the offense? And being a basketball driver, you know. Yeah, definitely. That's my goal to just continue to improve everywhere. But I think just overall, it's just helping the team anyway that the team needs to be helping, just being a team player. That's my deal, just trying to come in and, you know, help the team, whatever the team needs. How did you guys find out? I'm actually, I honestly don't remember how I found out. But I just remember like the process on what was where we were going to do moving forward. Ryan Dees talked a lot about the leadership Travian's brought to the running backroom this spring. What, how have you seen that from him? Yeah, definitely. Travian, as like I said, has improved.

He's been a leader to the whole room, you know, by his actions and vocally as well. Just, you know, continue to improve all around and inspire the young guys in the room. And I think he's done very good at that. Coach Dave, what, you know, T.C. Kathy's a guy that can contribute to you guys as well. What have you seen from him as a walk-on to be able to contribute to your room? Yeah, definitely. T.C. works very hard. He knows the offense. He's always in the playbook, always in the meetings, writing things down. Very head down guy, you know, he doesn't really talk that much, but he's very good. I agree. I was just like, something in the question. How was Coach Dave like his running backspinning career? It's crazy, you say that because he just told us he was like, well guys, this is probably my last week with y'all and I'm out. But Coach Dave has been awesome. You know, he's taught us a lot of different things as far as scheme and different positions that he's coached overall. And you know, taught us a lot of different things that we learned overall. So it's been awesome.

I know it's probably unsettling not their position coach for two weeks, but what does it also mean? You have like an hip coach in that hands-on with your group? Yeah, definitely. It meant a lot. You know, they have Coach Dave in those meetings, teaching us everything that he's put in and implementing it into our game and showing us how he specifically won the game. It was really good to have him there. You just told about it in light and y'all from a respect of quarterback. Right. What do you remember taking away from this game? Yeah, it's just really like not only looking at it from a running back perspective, but also as a quarterback as well, looking at certain reads, certain blizzes from other players and just looking at it all around from the field. Can I use your second go? What's the list in your ramp? Who did you get in time? Who did that after the second? Yeah, actually, I don't really remember, but thank you. I'm putting you on the ground for even that face of the game. Yeah, definitely really comfortable. Like I said, I've been improving to start of this year, you know, coming here just improving my game all around. What's the last question? What's the last question? Was it pretty quiet today? Is that disconcerting? Are you waiting for like...

I'm waiting. I mean, he's giving me a lot of feedback. Today on practice, you know, different plays, what he thinks, you know, what he's happy about. But I think the energy is going to come soon, so I'm excited. Did you get any props for your blitz pick up on that last of your reminds that everyone was freaking out about? Oh, yeah. I did. I did. How were you without party games? When blitz pickups? When blitz pick up blockers, I feel like. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty solid. I think, like I said, just improving my game all around, that's the goal. Continue to build every day and not be the same player that you wear a yesterday. So that's really my goal, but I think I've been pretty solid at it for sure. All right, Quencha. Thank you. All right. Thank you guys. Thank you, guys. Thank you, Quencha. No doubt about it. He's still a bit of a leader. Him and J to your real close, really, really close. But that front four guys here, been here, Thai and Thai League. They're really close and they're pushing the guys.

And that's what you want to see. So I would say those four guys are our leaders in our room and they're pushing out really, really well. You're not a champion. I mean, he's a champion. I mean, he's six five. He's, you know, 295 pounds. He's an ideal three-tech, you can art system, right? And just some matter, you're going to have him confidence and play it. And now sometimes you get his bigger than you think it is and he kind of shut your back. And now in the spring, we're challenging. And I'm just telling you, he's, every day is a good day for Chase more. And that's what we want to see. K-Mac to say the thing. There's a lot of guys doing well that we really like what's going on right now. But if a guy that's making a jump right now, we'll see Jason Moore. The earlier we used to talk about the first two years or on us in the third year is on that. Except there's a, with those ends though, it's Canyot and Caden who got two-third your guys who no fault of their own. You already said it depends on some. How do you approach that as a coach with guys who, when they were looking at this probably falling right here, a big opportunity was going to be here. And now it might not be quite the same shape thing. Again, I think it's going by TIC early on, right? And then KJ came back.

And then it's got to go and report if they wanted to because those guys came back, right? But they all want to be part of something special. You know, and I think that's what separate us. We are. And in fact, the KJ and Caden care and never wonder like what they want to do. They just want to play ball and come back and be the best player possibly. And step to the rows. And their row this year is different. It could be a very long season. So we're going to need those guys. And I think they're embraced at when they came back. So that's a good thing about it. What do you mean by plan A might not have also been for both KJ back to still be here in four years? So you're probably grateful that they are but same time are you looking at this, like what else is left on the tables for them? Where are you working? Well, I think the biggest thing they're doing at Chase and Greatness right now. And I mean, being the best player, it can be in the college football. I think that's what they want. When an Astro Chams you know, to team up north. Those are all great goals for those guys at Chase. And I think that's one of the reasons they came back. You know what I mean? You go up there, you're a player, go in and out there. You might think you're ready. But when you got four years on your belt, you got your two box ready to go. You got a chance to elevate your game when you're walking in that next level.

And I think that's where those guys looked at. How can I get better coach? And every day we're working on the small pieces to make them elite players. And I think that's what we're going to draw right now. And you can see the difference in the guys. And that's the positive what's happening right now. What is your challenge? What is your challenge? Can you all get a chance to see the good event? This freeing, or do you really need to improve wherever you want? Just being consistent, so about being consistent. You know, he's tough, he has all the skillsets, he can bend, he can run, he can tackle, he's physical, he has all that. Now can you be consistent in doing what you're supposed to do? And so far, he's done a good job at that. And you can see him coming out of his shell a little bit, kind of trying to be a leader. And I like how he's going on. It's always getting carried. I mean those guys are right where you need to be. And I'm just happy that we got to move on days to practice to get ready. What's the next step? The next step? But in the next step, you know, obviously, it's the play to best gaming and play every game. That's the key to going into it, right? You're trying to be a lead player. You know what I mean? Tal has got to give it, but to be a lead, you got to choose that. And every day he day after, we talked about that, you got to choose greatness.

Because there's no fall on the way from this. And I mean, so just little things. You've been asked about Edrick and his recruitment. But now he's on the field. What have you seen from him through a few practices that make you think that, you know, not to put the expectations on him, but he's almost asking me next time. Yeah, I hope so. You have a good time to go. It's a growth process. I mean, those young guys come in. It's like he should be in a classroom and get ready to go to the problem now. You know, I mean, he's here. And so he's got to go through a growing stage, you know what I mean? How to play hard. Playing hard in a high school and playing hard in college. Two different levels. I mean, it's this full speed of ed. I mean, so he's got to learn how to do that. He's got the skill set. I mean, he's got the physical skill. And now he's just learned a game that played a high level as fast as he can. Do you make sure to shepherd him to JT and Jack? Okay, make sure to pay attention to these. Well, we don't have to shuffle very close. They already stand next to him talking to him. That's a good thing. But I grew. They coached a young guy really well. Really well. Where? With the tightly tied being able to play Irish con. Who that is your third guy? Because he could be. Well, you hope that K-Mac can give us some time.

I think he's having a good camp. And Jason Moore, we got hero Knows done really well. And he got Taiwan. And in there. And then we got a battle between who's going to be that next piece guy? Where is Will Smith? Or it could be a little freshman. So we don't know yet. But I like the four-by-yar right now in the system we're moving forward. I think it gives him some options. Where's the hero in taking the biggest steps? Pissed me. Where have the hero in taking the biggest steps? Well, they're just playing a game. More knowledge of the game. How to play a great football IQ. And just continue to work on our techniques. And that's never going to stop. But I think that's what's happening right now. Is there something Kaden can give you with the one-tag sort of being that, you know, space heater? Maybe the explosive first step that, you know, there that spot? Yeah, yeah. He's a nose guard. And he's powerful. We like to see him continue to bring his weight down. But he's a big man. He's very strong. And he can handle it. The center really well. And he gives the idea of Knows God. That's what we're looking for. I suppose a guy, a big guy in the middle, just kind of managing for us. Can I have a time long? Is it your career? Where is he at? I think I said earlier that I think now that Groph is there, you know, baseball is behind him now.

He went through a learning curve last year. I thought, just trying to play football again. Now you see how to make some steps. And I think going into the fall, it will be able to help us in the fall. What's that learning curve like when he's playing baseball and dedicated time? Well, it's technique, right? You're just on about football. You know, eyes, eye discipline, how to get off the ball, how to get off blocks. All those things take time to learn how to do. If you haven't done it before, right? You know what I mean? It's like, difference is swinging a bat and hitting the guy in the mouth, you know what I mean? And so that's the difference. And you've got to learn how to do that. Yeah. You were talking about was there more of the learning curve there? And did you see something change last year than you did? Gone up the graph. Yeah, for earlier on, it was a struggle for me because it was all new to him. Even though he played football, but he hadn't played football over two years, three years. It was all baseball. And so just basically learning the game, understanding blocks and skiing. And seeing all, it took time to do that. And you saw it in the season, started to do a good job and started to understand it. Now with spring football on his belt in the last season, you can see the difference in him right already. That he started to learn how to play the game. Very tightly. For a long time, he worked in the system.

No doubt. What's the next step? What can you see? What can you see? Continue to do what he's doing. He's working real hard right now. You know, he's working real hard. He's lack what I thought. He was going to be coming back in the season where we're big. There's still more. He's running to the ball full speed every play. He wants to be great. And when you have that in your mind, everything is a challenge. I'm glad you've been here for a long time. And having a good fight this is a special experience. How much do you say this, the chair is the most... The restaurant is helping maximize this. I tell you what we do. I've challenged myself every year as a coach. How can I be better? You know, like I do better. You go back and watch what you did as a coach. I watch every single play all over again to an off season. And then I find things I think I could do better as a coach. That's my job. And then I take those things and we work to crap. I'm very fortunate to have to do really some great coach. And Coach Clark is a great young coach. He's coming next to me. We barbed B.T.

And now we have all these eyes in the room of all my guys. And I think that's make us better. And so that's what I'm looking forward to. We meet every day about every single guy, every technique, and finding ways to make him better every day. And so I think that's the key for me going forward. And so make sure we do that. We don't talk about... What's it like having your coach on set? You're on set. You're on set. You're on set. You know, you know, you know, you know, doing this in 129-28 years. You know, you never had an opportunity to do a watch and play. He was a kid at Penn State. But it's pretty cool. It really is. He wants to be a nurse. He wanted to be in a long time of the day. I kind of talked him out of it. You know, because the coach didn't think. But then finally, he said, Dad, this is what I want to do. And so, you know, thanks to Ryan. We had an opportunity to put him on the staff. And he's doing really well. He loves football. And his part is gene. So to be able to chase your dreams real smart. And you're going to be cool about it. You'll see him do it. We got a couple more questions. We don't talk about tie as much as we talk about tie league and jack and jack. Do you think there's a reason why he's a little underrated? I don't seem to say that all the way. Tie is a hammer. Tie is a physical player inside.

If you watch his play from last year, there's time where he was just... We call it Bobbledown. He just took it in the center and just shaking his head. Very strong, very physical. And the thing that we did well last year, we tackled well on the inside. And I was told he can tie it to a really great job. Mike really did a good job. He managed in the middle of the other tee-fights. And tied to me is he said, is this sleeping giant really his? Because he makes us go. He makes go. He's smart. He's a leader. And he knows exactly what he wants to do. And I love that about tie. Yeah. We've asked about a lot of different guys. How do you balance how you have the top end to the death behind it? Even you're trying to figure out a rotation also knowing that it's gonna play on the top end of the game. Yeah, no doubt. And that's what we're talking about. You know, a chance to play 17 games. We've never done that before. And so early on this season, we may play a lot more young players in a situation to make sure we get to the stretch, right? And I think our older players now understand what we're up against. And the thing I will say to you that, we don't have jealous season in Rome.

We don't have that. We have a bunch of guys that want to win. And if you can help us win, I want you to help us win. That's the attitude in Rome. And so they understand that we have to go into the season. We'll have to rotate and we have to do our own in the season and get a chance to get to the back end of the season. We're gonna do what we want to do. Not rotating last year. Was that more about the top end of the room and how good those guys were? Or maybe some more show guys like you and you're not messing around with the game ready for the game? Oh, no doubt about it. Yeah, you know, quite ready last year to throw those guys in and say, go battle. You know, man, you gotta be smart. You know, I mean, you don't want to put them in a situation where they have a handicap. Handicap being like they fail. And then everybody down, you could carry that. And I'm really good about not putting freshmen in a position where they have a chance to fail. I want to be successful. Now those guys have no doubt. They have their own parents. Now let's go play. And that's what we're gonna try to do with in the season. We're gonna get to it. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Who's asking? We're gonna be asking your college roster to tolerate the 17 games in the season. Has it ever been done before? Yeah. And so it's gonna be tough. We have to find out. Ask that question at the end of the season.

And I mean, right now we don't know. We just know as long as it could be a long season. You know, Larry, would you have a little idea to cross-drain JT and Jacket outside of that? I think it's great. I mean, we do a little bit at now and I drop eight defense. We do a little bit at now. So it's not a big deal. You know, you're gonna rush the squad and they do that right now. And just a matter of changing the front on the inside. I mean, that's all. We haven't gotten there yet, but I know Coach knows it's interesting. Trying to spear around that a little bit. Is that a response to try to find something to match up against an offensive line? What's all the things you have to do with those big six-separate guys? Yeah, like 12-person-out. 13-person-out. 14-person-out. Now you've got to chance to match up. Play bigger guys on the field. You know, I mean, you might play three tackles on the field. And then two big ends. So just a way to kind of offset that a little bit. Yeah. But we're not there yet. We haven't put it in yet, but it's a thought process. Experience you have with a lot of these guys. You can start forcing them to get your assurances. Is there any situation you're coaching for where you've had that much experience? Only once when we had the Sam Hubbard, Jalen Homes, DeBosa, Chase, that group.

That group was really, really veteran group. Now we did a lot with those guys. That's what a Rushman Package came because we had to get those guys on the field. But these guys are, you know, I like to, I like the guys are back, but I like the young guys who started to go, because they can see what it takes to be great, right? And so the greatest examples of those guys, just imagine those guys who love, they'll be a lot of young players trying to learn from young players. And so we have a bonus right now that these guys are all back. I think the more you get, the more you get. That's the right, you have more to get. No, that's accurate. Yeah. One of the questions about the Rushman Package, I think, last year there was on the Chase team, you leave inside at the time, the Jack and the inside. What do you like about those two guys inside in the Rushman Package situation? How much of that is just, you want the experience guys to go inside? Yeah, you really just match up. I look for match up, right? There's a guard that we think we've got a great match up for a Rushman. You know, we want to take advantage of that. And so we have to look and see how we go through the season, how much we can use the Rushman Package or we know we have Pass Rush, and just how we're going to use it, put the piece together. And we'll figure out as we go on. Yeah. Coach, thank you very much. Appreciate it.

Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Thanks guys. Thanks guys. Thanks guys. Thanks guys. We grew up in the same park, we played, we were born in the same park, so we're a real close family friend. We're family friends. I'm two years older than I am. Did you have discussion with him before you came? Yeah, I had a discussion with him. How close you're to, how was your pitch? You know, he's so smart, you came for Sweden. So like, I wasn't even talking about recruiting, it was just, you know, just keeping that connection, just keeping going and talking. Because I knew at the end day he was going to make the right decision. I'm a little good at it. How much are you going to make right now? He's a huge difference maker. He's always, like, lights on him since he was a little kid, so like, this is nothing to do with him right now. So, in fall, he was going to show everyone that he's really like that. And make a name for himself again if people just didn't remember. Did you think you'd play some on the outside this year? We saw you kind of line up there a little bit.

Are you expanding what you're doing? Right now, I really don't know. It's so far away from the season. I can play everywhere, so that's how they can use me as safety. They can use me as corner. They can use me as Neko. So really anywhere, I play anywhere that coach wants me to play out. Just a brotherhood, you know, everyone was coming back and saw me. And what I looked like was going to leave in. But I just want to leave out of here in a nice, pretty heavy ship. We just left so much behind. I feel like our class came in one of the best classes I ever come through Ohio State. And we needed to leave out of here with something, so that's why I came back. What did you do? You were going to come back? I kind of knew just after the board game, I was going to come back. Just seeing everyone. And kind of before the board game, we all had a discussion. And we just want to come back and finish with our angle or national championship.

Was there kind of a feeling like having a shot at the ball? We had a lot of people. That's all individual decisions. Yeah, it was a group decision. You know, we had an individual decision, but we had to leave out of here with something. I feel like this year, we finally got to be able to do it. It was both. We had a conversation. I was, he's had a conversation. Last year, we were talking to Coach Moles about that split kind of feeling of sunny. There was maybe an early year, maybe half a year. He was still almost kind of into meeting. I was like, well, if you're talking about it, it's sort of a different thing. Maybe that's exposing you in a way that you want to. Then having to play that full time down in the second half of our class here, is it something that you think will be a major better?

Yeah, definitely made me a better nipple. Just learning from sunny, put me on with a lot of game and stuff like that. I've really had to flip my mindset from just playing corner and then just playing nickel. But now it's one of the best nickel in the country. That's kind of my mindset right now. What is the biggest difference between playing one of those new decisions? A lot of runfits, you got to be in the runfits. You're guarding quicker receivers in that slot. So that's kind of the whole, it's two different techniques from outside and inside. I've been really working on it. If you see last year, I got a lot more comfortable in the slot when I was kind of like the main slot. When I kind of focused on it and it's just my game elevator from there. I'll just keep on elevating and I'm just excited for this. What's the specific work you've been doing there to get better? I'll just catch technique, just not giving as much ground and the line is tremendous and stuff like that.

What's your vantage point? What's it been like to see sunny second level? Oh yeah, he's a dog out there. You can see there's a huge transformation with him. We can go out there and play die. This is so much versatility. I'm just happy to be able to change. I know Lorenzo's been playing some nickel with you. What kind of growth have you seen from him? He's going a lot. He's always in the film room. He's always going to go hard. He's going to be a great ball player down the road. What do you have to do with him? You're a very skilled corner now. You're in this situation where you're talking about what fits. That's just part of what you have to do now. What you're going to play in there is that something you have to get used to or how did you... Oh no, I've never really had to get used to it. Most people at corner, they can't go play inside. I like hitting. It's just something about it. It's just a natural transition. It is pretty crazy, right? When you're playing in there, you have to be physical enough to play the run.

But then you have to be quick enough to play all these little quick slot receivers. It's crazy. That's why I feel like it's the most fun position on the field. So, add a gain a little bit more weight in this offseason to bring more power into it. I have to take office of guards and tighten in every time. I had a gain some weight. I feel like I've gotten a lot stronger. I think it's a gain that way to keep your foot down. Which is like constantly trying to strike that balance, right? Yes, sir. I feel like they're sort of mixing you in the class of some training camps in the morning. Maybe before that. But when did it feel like you were starting to pull the embrace in? I love this position. I want to make it. Probably, I fully embrace it. It was constantly... I played a lot of... I was going like... ...splaying reps and all that. But then, uh, Nathan, he got injured. And so that moved Sunday to strong safety. So, I had no choice. I'm just really happy to play that position. Like I'm thinking for it. You're forcing about to that?

Yeah, I'm forcing for him. I had a lot of production that week somehow. It was like a night game. I wanted to make plays out there. Jim said that you really stepped up at that point. During the season once Nathan went down, you say that that week is when you really had to like... ...embrace it fully. And then how much did that game spearhead the rest of the season for you? Like give me that confidence that you can handle all that. Yeah, it was crazy. I think that whole October... Just from October to November, like... I'm here. I had a really crazy stretch. Like almost every game in October, I had an interception. I just kind of dropped one, it gets Michigan State. But I feel like every game in October, November, that's when I was in position. So, how much does the guy like wall help prepare you for that kind of switch in the end of the season? Oh yeah, if I didn't have Coast Wall, I don't know if I could make that position switch. There's just so much cerebral things you have to know at the position. So, Coast Wall, he got an info background.

He knows every single unit, D line. So, I had a Northland D line, linebackers. Because sometimes I do the same thing with steel tamers, just going last year, the same position. So, if I didn't have Coast Wall, I don't know how long. That takes a lot of like behind the scenes work that like... Sometimes I assume you like... I don't even know this because I'm not playing. Nickles, like, how much work goes behind the scenes because wall watching film talking about stuff? Yeah, people don't see it. Here at 630, like Coast Wall, he comes to the building like 5 am. So, I went in here at like 630, watch film with him. After practice, meet and watch him film and just walk through. You know, it wasn't easy at first, but he got on me, stayed on me a lot. He helped me accountable and just... I'm thinking for that. Yeah, it's going to be good. You know, he's a real good football player. He can cover, so it's going to be good having him back.

Yeah, he's going to be a good fit for us. You know, he played a lot of ball and started, started against us all over the years. So, it was crazy, good to have him back when I was happy. The best defense is the last five years, right? He was 29-two in the last year. And common thread team, he had a slot for us. So, he liked to be yourself, shot away from 2019, kind of broad things together. Who's next? Who's next? Yeah. Like, who's next? Yeah. The guy you've seen, who do you think's next to that role? I think Miles, you know, he's, you know, he's under-sized, but I feel like he just brings it. Like, he's got the mentality to play. And he really likes to love the game. He really studies hard. And I feel like he's going to be up next for the Nichols Park. What have you seen out of Aaron Scott? I'm Bryce's new doing a lot, I understand. What have you seen out of Aaron in these first couple weeks that they've been here to? Aaron's good. He's competing real hard. He's running to the ball. He's learning.

He's getting better every single snap. He's getting better, so that's what I've seen from him. Think about the difference in just top to bottom talent. And that room in the last, when you got here to now, how much do you think of it? It's crazy, you know, coming in, I don't even know how to explain it, but our room is so talented right now. Like, anybody can go out there, even our twos and threes can go out there and start anywhere else in the country. So, from top down, it's super talented. We got young dudes like Aaron, Miles, and Bryce. So, they're going to go out there and ball in a couple of years, and I'm excited for the future in potential. Those guys give you any crap about you and then Zodron back and keep it up to the finish. Aaron's talking about it a little bit, but not for real. They just want to really want to learn from us. They're super smart kids, and they're just real eager to learn. Along those lines, how much ownership is a good or a bettering guy, do you feel as to what this defense is going to look like next year after you're gone? And they'll second and third, the strange guys are now at the top of the network.

Yeah, it's going to be wild, because right now, they're going to be ready. Because, what stays on them? Me, Dezeo, we stay on them. Dave stays on them. So, they have no choice but to carry on the tradition. I feel like they're going to do it real. With Miles and Bryce in here, they're going to hold up the BI in 2021. Hey, Jordan, is it too early to assess the, for you to assess the spot receivers? For you to assess the Ohio State slot receivers that you're going against? Oh, I played them last year. I went up against them last year. They're all good. Bryson, Brandon, and Keon plays a little bit in the slot. And yeah, they're going to be real good. They're going to be, I mean, Mech, Mech 2, of course, Mech. We know what Mech does, so we want to best slot in the country. So, it's going to be fine, even when Mech leaves, there's going to be no drop off. Thank you, Jordan. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Have a safe break. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I don't know what to talk about that. Just to have a meeting or something. Take a seat. I'll figure it out. Everybody's going to have a meeting about me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to be doing a really good job. I'm just going to help you. Is that another piece that I was going to ask you to ask me to find my manager? Yeah, well, I mean, first off, I think I'd be doing a disservice to my teammates. You know, me even thinking about what's next. Because what's right in front of us isn't over yet. And that's another thing I got to tell me. So much grew is just being present in every single room that I'm in. You know, not looking too far ahead because I'm tripping on what's right in front of me. So, again, that's too self-insufficient. I'm thinking to meet you for me thinking about what's next. Are you at least aware that there's a lot of speculation out there that people are going to throw a huge number of things that you're going to do before the season?

I mean, right now I'm just not worried about all that stuff. I mean, people can say all they want to say, but I'm just focused on... I'm focused on Friday nights. But you're focused on Saturday nights. Nervous? I mean, I still get nervous for sure, but I just don't think. I think I do a couple of... I'm just understanding that at that moment, whatever moment it is that I'm nervous about, it doesn't define who I am as a person, and it doesn't define who I am and God's eyes. And understanding and knowing that has just kind of put this force field of peace around me that I think gave it allows me to be able to be calm in certain situations. But it doesn't... I still get nervous. What makes you nervous? I mean, I just love the game so much. And if you don't get nervous or a little bit of nervous, I don't think you have that same love.

I mean, I've got butterflies since you know, going into football games and so I was, you know, five, six years old. So I don't know if that's the end of the school. I didn't know. You know, football doesn't mean as much as it did to me back then. I want it to always be that much easier. Has that even really helped you out? I've been told, but I think so. How do you know how to stay calm? I want to knock on wood, barring any freak accidents. So I just, you know, I want to be here. I want to be a part of this team. And you know, when you want to and you have passion to add value, that makes it a little easier to get up and do the workouts in the off season. You know, whether you're 22 or are going to be 31. So yeah, I mean, it's definitely special. They have always had this reputation of rewarding the players.

You see this off season, St. Brown, golf, you know, Pane, not yourself. What does this say about the organization that you feel like it's changing the reputation a little bit? We're rewarding the guys like this. Well, first and foremost, those three guys absolutely deserving of every penny they got. Incredible. And you know, me being in the room with Pane every single day, like I was, you know, ecstatic for him. And of course, the other guys with Pane is, he's my line. He's my guy. I think it speaks to a good culture that's been built. And it's not built on sand. It's genuine. It's real. You bring certain guys in because of what they can add, not just as players, but as people. And like I said, it's, it's a genuine thing that the, that the staff is looking for. And it's not, oh, we're just going to bring this guy in and then get rid of him and try to find something cheaper.

I just think it speaks to the culture. You find guys that fit. We, you find guys that represent what we're about. Not only are they phenomenal players, but they represent us. They represent the city. And to be able to keep a core group of guys around, I feel like more and more in the NFL. You guys coming in and out. And it's hard to develop kind of some cohesiveness. And especially us on the offensive line, we got to play together for a long time now. And that's valuable. I mean, it's, that's big time. And then you think even the quarterback position, where his drops are, how he moves in the pocket, things like that. And then Jared and his familiarity with, with Saint. Um, I think it speaks to, they want to win. Like we want to win. This is what we're here to do. We're here to win. So we're going to keep our guys. They can help us win. Yeah. I talked to you last week. Express your desire to stay, but didn't sound like anything was imminent. Can you just take us through how this came together from your perspective?

Um, so I bring, I've been going back and forth a little bit for probably about a year and a half now with the organization. Because I knew like I want to be here. Um, there was no, no questions for me. Like, this is the place I want to be. I want to stay here. Um, and then there's just a lot of moving parts. I'm not the only person in this organization. I'm not the only guy that wants to contract extension. Um, and then I think. Coming off two surgeries, I think they probably wanted to see how I was moving around a little bit. And then in OTAs, I actually went up and I had a conversation with Dan. I was like, where are we at? You know, I hear things from my agent. Um, and, you know, from our salary cat people and their talking and I'm getting it kind of second hand. I want to hear it. Like, tell me where we're at just so I know I just want the information so it's communicated well. Um, and pretty much what he told me was to a T what happened. Um, and I just basically had to, had to stay patient. And, and for me, it was never going to be.

Hold out of training camp. Oh, if it comes to the season, we're not going to play games like that's just not me. Um, I'm going to show up and I'm going to play. Um, because that's what I do and that's what I'm here to do. Um, so I think it was pretty seamless. I just talked to Charlie and Disneyer upstairs and said it was super smooth. I think it happened in a day, which was pretty much how my second one happened. And my third one happened as well pretty quickly. So I think there's, I think there's value in just showing up and, and going to work. And, uh, I think the team knows that I'm not going to change if just because I'm not getting what I want when I want it. Um, and then ultimately we both got what we wanted. Um, so for me was just, I got the information that I wanted from Dan. And when we communicated, man to man and was very amicable. And since that conversation, I felt like it was promising that it would happen.

I didn't know when exactly. I had a ballpark idea. Um, and then it all worked out. You know, I showed up to camp. I went and played and the agents and the salary kept people do their thing. And now, you know, moving forward, I can just focus on playing football. Going through camp day to day. I don't have to have any of that hanging over my head. And, um, it's pretty good feeling. I'm actually more here in the university. Taylor, all I am doing in the Liberty Fankless job, but it's not here. Um, what does it mean to play for a team that values that side of the game? And when did you first sense that from Brad and Dan? You know, there's, there's a couple times every single camp where Dan will come into the offensive line room. And he'll say, I need to see it today. Um, and I've never had a head coach come in our room and say something like that.

And he would pop in every now and then and just say like, today, I need to see it from you guys. Not that we're not out there working hard every single day, but he's like, my eyes are on you guys today. Um, and it seems like a lot of those times, they're kind of some ballbuster practices that are, they're going to be kind of a grind it out. And that's what offensive line is. And I think you see it with the way they draft, they draft guys and the trenches. And even Dayton back to before they were hired, this organized it. I was drafted. Graham was drafted. Joe always drafted in my class. Frank was draft like we were drafting lineman. We were trying to build this team the right way. Um, and we had some pieces and then, uh, Brad and Dan just continue to build on that. Um, and I think it's paying dividends. And I can't speak enough to, you know, going back to the culture fit of the quality of people that they bring in. And how when you get along,

I don't know, just people's play flourishes even more. And that's another big reason like this is where I wanted to be. Like I had pretty much no interest in going to any other team. I'm a big factor of that is the guys that I get to play with. And I want to continue to play with them because they're important to me. Um, and I think, you know, the offensive and defensive line. Based on how the drafts have gone and based on the quality of player that they've brought in. I mean, you can see that it's, uh, it's definitely of importance to the organization. Kind of along the same lines, given where the roster is, given the success of the team's head recently. Is there something extra validating about getting your first contract extension under this specific regime? Yeah, 100%. Not that I didn't think that they wanted me here because if they didn't want me here, I wouldn't be here. But I had gotten my second contract from a, from, you know, a previous regime basically.

It's not like I never felt like I was like one in here, it's just like that little extra. Hey, we want you here and we want you to continue to add value. Because we were a young team and I'm not getting any younger. But I still think I can play and I think I can play for as long as I want. And that's kind of kept me young and I feel like that's kept me. Motivated to kind of have that edge. Yeah, I mean, it's just that little extra where just kind of reconfirmed. I mean, when Dan was hired, he called me that same day. So it's not an instance of, oh, I'm not one at here. They just kind of doubled down with this contract. We love you, we respect you, we want you here, we think you can play. We think you can continue to add value. And let's get this thing going. Thanks, guys. It's an absolute dime to carnal tape, but stand out throw of a day.

And I think with Lincoln having another year of experience, it just felt to me like Lincoln was in a little bit more control out there. It felt like he had a little bit more command of what he was doing out there. Whereas it felt to me like Julian was just a little bit off today. Yeah, our command is a good way to put it. And that kind of throw to carnal, beautiful go ball up the sideline. It ends up being a 45-yard touchdown. Carnal had half a step, a step on his defender. And it was right where it needed to be. But it wasn't the only impressive throw. I think Lincoln had a really nice throw over the middle on a slant route to fill up the freshman. He had a few other nice ones mixed in there. It wasn't a perfect day for Lincoln. He also under threw a couple balls that I saw. But on the whole, I think it's definitely fair to say he was the most impressive of the quarterbacks today. And I would actually even put Tavy and St. Clair second in that grouping. Tavy and had some really nice flashes, especially early in the practice. Didn't have that consistency as the practice went on. There's clearly a freshman still learning. But Julian missed on some throws today for what interception. I think there's clear strides that he needs to take to claim the starting job ultimately for Ohio State.

And look, I think if anything else that Lens Creedens to, at least at this point in the offseason, this is a real competition between Julian and Lincoln. I think if this is what's been consistently shown behind the scenes, obviously this is just one practice we get to watch. But if this is what's consistently shown behind the scenes, I think Lincoln has a real shot to ultimately win the job this fall. And of course, we'll have another big opportunity to watch the quarterbacks and all these guys next week at the spring game. And I think it'll be really telling, at least for us, do we see Julian make some of those strides next week? He struggled in the spring game last year. Will he have a better showing in the spring game this year? I think that would go a long way for him. Certainly for Lincoln to kind of keep building some momentum as he tries to keep himself up before front of that competition. And yeah, like you said, you know, Tavie was only with the third team today. And so, you know, it's pretty clear of it right now. It's a Lincoln versus Julian battle in terms of who they're evaluating to be that starting quarterback. But I mean, I think one of the plays of the day, early into practice, Tavie,

and he spins away from a Russia throws a beautiful ball down the field to David Adolf. A few times today where you could really see Tavie and his athleticism on display, his ability to evade rushers and extend plays. And I think that's one of the things that gives him a lot of potential. So, you know, I think Tavie went still to come a long way to have a chance to be the starting quarterback this year. But I think you can certainly see those flashes of his potential to be a star quarterback for Ohio State in the future. Going away from a quarterbacks, you know, there were several guys that stood out to me today. One of the biggest ones was Quincy Porter. And it sounded like after practice he lost his black stripe, which would make him the first of this year's freshman to lose his black stripe, which is certainly a notable achievement. And he was a guy, you know, you heard, you know, Austin Edwards on the PA calling his name all day. He made a lot of plays. One of them a really nice diving catch on a throw from Lincoln Keenholes. And he looks like a guy, you know, we don't have the same expectations for Quincy Porter, but we did for Jeremiah Smith a year ago as a freshman. There's been positive things said about him all spring and looking at what he did out here today,

he looks like a guy who has the potential to help Ohio State as a freshman. Yeah. And when Jeremiah was coming in last year, I talked a lot about the polish that he had coming from Florida and playing in that league. I mean, coming out of New Jersey, I think there's Quincy Porter has some of that, even in the Catholic league that he played in was really difficult. He, I think, is impressive with his size and the refinement of his game, the way he uses his size to make catches. Like he was walling him off defenders on a couple of catches we saw that diving one you mentioned, the way he's able to weaponize his length and have that big catch radius, I think because it's one thing to be tall. It's another thing to actually be a good tall receiver, you know, like a Marvin Harris in Jr. was, like a Jeremiah Smith is. I think Quincy Porter has that potential and he's really flashed it today. As the starters go, receiver wise, I think Brandon NS had a fantastic outing today. Had a really nice post-route. I think Lincoln's probably second best bow he made besides the go-ball to Carnell. He had Brandon NS on a really nice post-route down the field. Brandon had made a big gain on that play.

There were other ways they were getting him involved in the offense coming across the field with some underneath throws. Things of that nature. Philip Bell also really stood out to me as far as another freshman goes. Not as much as Quincy, but they were mixing him in with the twos in the threes, getting him some of those reps and getting him some looks, a lot of underneath passes to him. For me though, I think out of everyone, the biggest standout might have been Bo Jackson today. There was a run that Bo Jackson had where the first play is after we got out here on the field. Bo, Bo, two or three tackles, running up the middle on a play and picked up about 11 yards. Carson Hensman's walking past me and he says, Bo, like that for real. That's like, yes. Watching him today, there was a shotgun toss they did to him coming on the outside. He picked up about 24 yards on it and just outrunning the defenders. You can see the burst. You can see the willpower. You can see how he always keeps his legs turning. To me, Bo Jackson was a really impressive standout today.

And maybe a guy that could challenge for some carries come fall. We've talked a lot about James Peoples and CJ Donaldson. Both of them have looked really good this spring. But you have a way Bo was running today. I think he's a guy to watch too. And he make that a three man running back rotation rather than just a two man running back rotation. If he keeps practicing like he did today, I think he's got a chance. We flip it over to the other side of a ball. I think probably the biggest standout on defense to me was Peyton Pierce. Another guy we've been hearing a lot of good things about All Spring long. James Lauren Knight is really talking him out. He was getting a lot of first team reps out there today. You know, sunny style is one of the veterans who's getting some limited reps. You know, coming off a plan a ton last year. And so Peyton Pierce was out there a lot with the ones. And he made multiple pass breakups. You know, you can see why James Lauren Knight is keeping talking him up as a guy who is going to be one of those top free linebackers this year. And he's going to play a lot of football for the buck guys this season. Yeah. I was thinking with the defense to me too. And that front group, Kate McDonald was really good today. I had one of his classic goal-wide and stuff.

We saw him make a few of those even during the highest-stage national championship run. Last year, that was kind of his way to get involved in the defense last season in those goal-wide short yardage packages. But he pressured a throw. I believe it was from Julie and Saiyan. He looped around and didn't hit him basically forced in a new completion. Or not hit him because I don't think the quarterbacks were live at that point. But he pressured him, forced it in completion. Had a PPU that he batted down. Was constantly getting in the backfield and making chaos. Also defensively, I thought Aaron Scott had a really good day in coverage. He was paired up against Jeremiah Smith a lot of the time. He had a PPU working against Jeremiah. There were a couple of other plays where Jeremiah may have made the catch, but Aaron was right there. And I mean, you're talking about the best receiver in the country, right? He made Jeremiah work for it is what I'm saying. And a lot of corners aren't capable of making Jeremiah work for it. But he was right there in coverage. He had another couple good reps against other receivers. To me, Aaron Scott was one of the more impressive defensive backs today.

And then, Jermaine Matthews also within interception. So I think the corner back room really looking strong in this practice for Ohio State. I agree completely. Devon Sanchez made a couple plays as well. He had a break up against Jeremiah Smith. Lorenzo Stiles Jr., he almost had an interception of a really nice break on a ball. I believe he was going up against Brandon Innison coverage. And so I think you're seeing the depth of that room. You know, Aaron Scott, Devon Sanchez both mixing in a lot with IGB and Jermaine Matthews, if that first team defense today and Lorenzo taking a lot of a rep spirit nickel. But you know, it seems like both those five guys, that seems to be kind of that top of that corner back group. And I try to take advantage of these reps when you get the goal for once. No, definitely, definitely. I think I was definitely trying to take advantage of each and every rep that I got today. And like I said, just looking forward to getting better tomorrow. So that point, Justin, looking at the first team defense in the past, what have you been able to dream so far about some of these guys? Did they open him to the second area like L.A. Yeah, I mean, Design, I mean, you felt his presence.

I mean, OTA, I think he's been a great addition to the defense. He brings a lot of energy. He's just up and he's a great player. So I can't wait to get the pads on because I hear he's pretty physical too. So I'll play to get some a little bit when I was trying to use him to the choice. So I kind of play to get some a couple of times. But I mean, he's a great player and has been great so far. And then, in a minute, did you get from Russ Bennett throughout practice and watching him do the same thing with the team drills and even doing the mid-foot rowing? Oh, yeah, I mean, Russ is always, you know, any question that I have, I can always better rest, ask him for advice. You know, he's going to, you know, give his knowledge to me. Of course, he's been in the lead for a long time. So, you know, any advice he has for me, I'm always open and willing to take that. But he was really just, you know, trying to follow along practice. He had the script in his hands and really is just trying to play the practice mentally. So as we all are, it's quarterback. Yeah. You know, did you find out that Russ was going to be practicing the corner like that? Yeah. It's a short term dessert for us. Yeah, I found out right when I woke up this morning. So, you know, last night, just looking over the place, but this morning,

I recorded my coach this second and said, be ready to take the rest of the ones that they want today. But this morning, but it's good, you know, to say, you know, some short-term, I mean, some diversity, you know, some stuff that's, you know, not expected. You know, because we're going to face things and games that aren't expected. So, nothing about how we react to those situations and how we adjust. You thought it was like that just next morning? No early. I think it was like six o'clock. So I woke around 6'30. But, yeah, I think, you know, six around six o'clock. Did you change your approach at all, Justin? Did I change my approach? Did you come up? I drove off a little. Not really, you know, I just tried to, you know, do my job for my teammates. And so I'm not really changing these things. I try to come out here the same guy every day. Just try to be consistent. I feel like I'm going to have to go. I feel about the truth. I feel it's all right. You know, of course it wasn't perfect. There's always room to improve. But I felt, I felt it's all right. And, you know, you know, I missed, I got bumped into, I'm not going to talk about that. But I felt, all right overall, got, got, got some good reps in the day for sure.

Seems like you guys are starting to fight in. How did you, how's it been working with Pat Brown? What did you do in your career, though? Yeah, I mean, Pat, one thing about Pat, he's really savvy. Smart. And then he also has a great hands too. So when you, you know, get all those attributes and a sight in, it makes them a great player. You played a lot of, you had a lot of 12 and 13 out there, right? Yeah, for sure. Much as you expected, more than expected. You know, we're a team that can do a lot of things. You know, we were a lot of good players on offense. So I think you can mix it up with a good bit. So not really expecting anything. So, do you think you're getting country? You got that text first thing I mean? No, not really. I mean, they're not going to say that, you know, mess with your head. But, you know, I, uh, yes, I didn't really think I was going to get planted off. I'm not sure. I don't, I'm not sure how it's been right now. I've started from, so we'll see. Go for more. Or none. All right. Thank you.

So, you know, you can start going through the list. So we, we have to, I think initially treat them differently, but quickly we have to get them, you know, all on the same page. They were all on the same page. Um, and so as spring goes on, we'll do that. But early on we'll be really smart, especially coming off a spring break. Right? Killian? Yes. WSYX. Right. You mentioned, um, the spring showcase, looking a little bit different this year. And you guys are so passionate about those details. Are you able to share what that might look like? Not yet. Not yet. Yeah. I mean, there, there will certainly be opportunities to scrimmage and it'll look like a game. Um, but, um, you know, because of some of the guys that we mentioned, we still want them out there doing some things. And that will probably be in some some drill work and some seven on seven work and, um, be good to get everybody out there so that the fans can see them.

But, um, but the most important thing is getting the young guys game reps with, with, um, hopefully a good crowd out there. Um, so that, because we know the next time again, we'll be against Texas. So, um, we'll also going to have to take a hard look at the, the health of our team as we get into the end of April. So we have to be able to adjust and be flexible with it. Um, but again, that's the goal was to get these guys as many reps as we can in the stadium. No, why's that the lantern? Ryan, now that you've got that, we got to the national championship sort of reflect and sit back. What's, I mean, what do you think the biggest thing is that you learn about yourself during that entire playoff run? Just to trust the process. Yeah. And just keep pushing and, and, um, you know, um, sometimes, you know, we all know that it's easy to, uh, to say it's a little bit different to do. Is you just again, trust the process and, and make the adjustments and keep pushing forward. Um, you know, we always say, you know, ignore the noise, whether it's good or bad. Um, because criticism and praise are all the same.

You just have to, you know, focus on what you're focused on and, um, and all the work and decisions that are made during the beginning of the season. Um, you know, we have to adjust and tweak them, but at the same time, we also have to believe in what we believe in in our philosophy. And, um, I think it's also, you know, making sure that you're recruiting the right people that, you know, when you, when you do have a, um, a tough moment, you know, everyone's able to stick together and not going different directions and fray. I think those were all learning lessons. You've been on 24 seconds. Ron, as you enter spring balls, they're a position group or groups that you're concerned about depth wise. And might you guys add more from the portal? I know you've already done a good job in portal, but you know, one of the things for us that was tricky was, um, you know, the portal was open before. Our season, and open name closed before our season was over. And, and that's something that we got to take a hard look at with rules. Um, you know, and people will say, well, you know, you guys just won the national championship. What are you complaining about? Well, that matters for this year's team. And, um, so that, that was, that was a major challenge for us.

You, because as you can imagine, you know, if you are trying to add somebody in the portal, but you're still trying to finish your season out, how that can affect your current roster. So, um, and then the second part of that is we get down with the season and, you know, Notre Dame and Ohio State are the only two teams with guys in the portal for that five day window. And everybody else is closed. And it's open season on our players for five days. Like, we got to take a hard look at this to figure out what's right. You know, and whether there's just one, one window in the spring portal. Once all that is flushed out to me. It's either that or you move back to games. Um, but again, we can talk about that in another, another date. So, um, you know, we will obviously look in the portal based on how things come out of the spring. We'll look at that. Um, because, you know, we have, we have to fill out a roster too. You know, there's some positions that we don't, we're not of capacity right now. Um, so depth. Let's see. And on defense, I would say right now, D line is probably of the biggest concern just in terms of replacing those four guys.

And then also, you know, losing hero. So that's five, five guys right there that, you know, we have to replace. Um, I think that we have some good guys and good options there. But, but that'll be a focus. Um, you know, in offense, um, you know, all line is always something that we need to take a look at and see how some of those, those new guys fit in and how it all comes together. Um, you know, and then losing quenchon and try to running back, you know, James. And now we have CJ and some of the younger guys that, um, you know, now they have to carry the water. So, um, that's going to be, you know, big and obviously quarterback would be the, the big, you know, the big focus. So I think when you look at it on offense, it's really just, you know, replacing will replacing trivian and quenchon. And then, and then how the offense align comes together. And then again, on defense, it's, you know, losing those, those five guys, you know, and seeing who's going to step up in those areas. Yep. That's right. So, uh, let's follow up on Matt, Patricia, obviously you mentioned he's done a lot of different things schematically in his time.

Uh, what makes you confident that what he did, you know, me NFL will translate to the collegial level. I think a lot of things that are going on, there's a trickle up and a trickle down effect right now. And you're seeing a lot of that happening. Um, you're seeing a lot of guys transition. I think now more than in the past, um, you guys, you know, probably focus on a little bit more than me. You know, of what's going on in the NFL and what's going on in college, you're seeing a lot of carry over there. And I think with the playoff system in place, you're seeing that you're seeing the coach communicate your host of player communication. You're seeing huddling more, um, you know, the hash marks are different. And there's certain rules that are different, but there's a lot of similarities now. So I think it's going to carry over well. You see quarterbacks who run and were mobile in the NFL nowadays. So there's a lot more simulators now, um, than in the past. Um, you know, being in the league for just a couple of years, you know, the transition isn't as crazy as maybe it had been in the past. Jeremy Burving has the podcast. Ryan, with, uh, your offensive staff being turned around. I mean, you're almost 10 years older than everybody on staff, except for coach, not, I think.

Uh, how did that decision to, when ship left, to that impact your decision with the defense coordinator, hire? Was there a thought that maybe you needed to go get somebody who was more of the head coach at a defense style based on the fact that you may have to come more time with the offense and the last. Yes. I think that you need to have balance when you're looking at your entire staff. And, um, you try to do that the best you can. Um, and I believe very strongly that Brian's going to do a great job as an offensive coordinator. I think he's really grown in a lot of areas. Um, I, I gave him a lot of credit for, you know, he was named coordinator a couple years ago. I still called the plays. Um, you know, then we brought in chip and his attitude of like, I'm just going to learn from chip in a big way. And then some of the work that he did, Kenan did and Billy did down the stretch and some of the past game. And I think he's got, you know, a really good handle now on protections and even in the run game. Like he's ready to call it now. Um, but still going to be involved. Still going to, um, just like I was last year.

I was still going to kind of make sure that, you know, we're all on the same page. Having Tyler, they were always important. But I think to your point, you know, I'm still going to be involved with the offense, but I'm able to kind of bounce into the defense. But the more times that we have guys who are experienced and veteran, um, you know, on that side of the ball. I'm going to stay on offense. Uh, it certainly helps. And I think, uh, you know, taking the play calling away last year was really important. I want to continue to do that and surround myself with guys who, you know, we can hire to do jobs. So take a step back and take a little bit of a different role. I think it helped the season. And I'd like to, you know, do that even more as we move forward. Rob Oliver, come to this. Yeah. More on, on Matt. Um, he clearly has credibility with his NFL, but I'm just curious in your discussions with him and interviews or whatever. Why he decided to come back or come to college. He's not really bending college Syracuse a little bit. How much of that was not a concern, but a discussion point. You've got recruiting.

You've got a whole different culture. How did that play out? And what did he say that can kind of convince you that he really wants to be in the college? I think you guys would get around that. You'll see his personality. Um, you'll see the way he is. You'll just see, you know, what type of family man he is, type of daddy is, type of husband he is. Um, you know, he did coach at Syracuse. He and Tim worked together there. Um, but, you know, I grew up in New England. I obviously saw the run that they went on there. And when you go in a run, the way that they went on, you know, you stayed a place for a long time. And, you know, I don't know if, if that was, um, you know, something that maybe even early on, he thought he was going to be in the NFL for as long as he did. But, um, when you're around a great organization that goes on the run that they went on, um, you end up at a place for a long period of time. And then, you know, he's there for a while and then has an opportunity to become a head coach. Um, well now, you know, it's, it's almost like a different mindset, you know, maybe a little bit of a different chapter for him. Doesn't mean he sure he'll have an opportunity to go back to the NFL, but, um, you know, I think it's Ohio State.

I think he understands the culture. Um, you know, we spent a lot of time talking and I think he sees the opportunity here and he's excited about it. I think it's a new chapter that he can absolutely come in here and make a difference. And I think that's what he wants to do. And I don't think the recruiting part is going to be very difficult at all. Any, any, you'll, you'll see it when you get around them. Joe Dujan, WCNH. Naturally, we'll be starting quarterback this year because you started that process. If you got to be that'll be, um, where are you with that? What information do you feel like you have on the guys in there in the mix? There you are. Um, and, you know, they're going to have to compete and, you know, we need a quarterback to be tough. We need him to be a leader. I've said this before they've had a great opportunity to watch well even Tavian, you know, because he was a big part of, um, you know, being around these guys last spring. I don't think he missed the spring practice. He would come during the season for all the games. He was with us for the last two weeks or the last two, two games. He was able to see what that looked like. Lincoln was with him every day. Julian was with him every day. So like that's, that's the standard of what the leadership should look like.

Um, now they got to go do it. And, you know, being the quarterback around here and I mean, you start listening to guys who have been here most recently and down the, and history of Ohio State football. I mean, you're in, um, you know, you're some of the best names who've ever played the game. And, but the biggest thing they have to do is they got to lead and they got to be tough. So, uh, long way to go on it. Don't have any evaluation to go with right now, but it's, uh, it's going to be a big spring for those guys. Tony German, how do you see the quarterback reps going? It's going to be like a 40, 40, 20 or, you know, like, how are you expecting to break that down? So, yeah, we're going to try to roll. We're going to try to go three groups so that those guys get equal amount of reps. Um, you know, we'll split up who goes where and even last year with the will. I mean, we did that, you know, guys are getting reps with the ones, guys are getting reps with the twos, the threes. You know, the times where will was out there with the threes early on. And just rolling because if you put one guy with the ones and two, sometimes it can look a little different because of the younger guys, older guys. So now we're going to roll and, and we're going to try to get the best evaluation we can. We'll evaluate everything. Specifically early on in the spring.

We want to roll those guys the best we can because the number one goal of spring is to get individual players better. It's it. You know, we can get scheme in and all that, but fundamentally, technically, we've got to get better as football players. And then once we get into the summer, we start putting the scheme together and we start coming with the chemistry of the team. And you'll be able to split the dot dot. What are your expectations for Tyler going as a recruiter and in your higher process? How big is that? Big, big. And I, you guys can probably already see he's making an impact. He's getting guys here. He works hard at it. You know, he makes connections. He's build relationships. He can evaluate at a high level. And I think he with. You know, with some of the guys that we have, you know, on the offensive staff together at the year, you started to see a group or crewing there. And so again, World House, they, you know, we should have the best players in the country. And he understands that. And again, this is another guy. The more you get around him, you'll see his personality just jumps out at you. And the guys love being around them. So, you know, we'll see how the spring goes, but he's off to a good start.

At Murphy, 24, seven scores. Brian, you mentioned Brian, aren't one being ready to take over play calling. What have you seen in the last two years? Why do you feel so comfortable? The first thing is his work ethic. He's worked his tail off. And when you evaluate coaches, you know, you got to work at it. You got to be one of the first guys in the building. You got to be one of the last guys to leave. I mean, you got to grind on it. I think he's made the transition from being a player to a coach very well. We've got a quick period of time. He speaks for itself, but to me, the work ethic has been excellent. The players relate to him. He has credibility. He's got confidence. But he's grown as a coach. You know, he's handled situations well. He understands, you know, we're on the headset. I think that's one of the things too that people don't realize. Like, yeah, the play callers, the play collar, but like in between series, man, we need to get to this. We need to get to this. It's third down. We're going to get to this. He's been on the headset. And he's there saying we got to get to this. We got to do this. Like sees things makes adjustments in game.

But it's going to be it's going to be fun to watch him. You know, manage a group of people now because that's a big, that's a big difference. You get all the coaches in there. Now you're the guy who's got the clicker. You got to make the adjustments. You got to challenge those coaches. You got to make the tough decisions on personnel and where we're going schematically. And you know, I'm still going to be there. But like, you know, I've really tried to, you know, let him go and run with this thing. And so I'm excited to see when you look at Brian, when he's put his mind to something he's got it done. And I believe he's going to get this one done too. Austin Moore podcast. If I like Billy was a no brainer promotion for you, what made that so so easy? You know, he really, I say this to a lot of the coaches when you walk in the building, it's your job to bring value. And I think sometimes some coaches wait to do things. Billy jumped on it right away. He saw this as an opportunity. And he took it and ran because of the opportunity that these coaches have not a coach in the field, which they didn't have in the past. He spent one on one time in meetings. He took that and ran and chip being the office coordinator. You know, he quickly, you know, became a quarterback coach really last year.

And the good thing for Billy is he was here before. So he knows how we want to coach things. He knows how we teach things. He understands the progressions. He sees it the way that we see it. So him walking in the building. That was, he was a step ahead that way. He's very smart. He works really, really hard at it. He's got a really bright future in the game. And I think the guys in a room know him. And so it was just it was easy. And you know, for me, it was it was good because we see we see things the same way. And I believe that, you know, I can walk out of the room and what we want to get taught is going to get done. Now, the, you know, another great evaluation this spring. But I saw it last year. I saw the work he did and he's very, very talented. Join cockpit. What is this? Ryan, the, with the makeup of the office of staff being as young as it is. There have been past years. We've had somebody like Chid Laster, Chid. Well, it's just wondering what kind of impact you think having much younger staff has. I think it comes down to experience. And now when you start looking at what, you know, Brian's not been here for a while and you look at, you know, Tyler's coach a lot of football and, you know, lock and, you know, you know, you can keep him now. He's getting a little bit older.

You know, these guys now now are more experienced than they then they didn't have passed. And again, I'm still going to be there, but I think it ultimately evaluated based on, you know, what you see. And, you know, these guys just want a national championship here, you know, and a lot of coaches haven't done that. So they've seen it. They know it. And so, you know, I think that, you know, it comes down to your worth. It comes down to, you know, what you've done. And I got a chance to see it on a day to day basis. And I think these guys are excellent. They were easy to get to the North. Ryan, in hiring, Patricia, he had a sexual assault indictment in his past that did not go to trial and was later dismissed. What was the discussion with Matt around that and what kind of vetting process did Ohio State go through? Yeah. So, you know, as you, as you know, you know, when we make these decisions, you know, we, we spent a lot of time, you know, in the interviewing process and getting to know people. And we always take everything into consideration. And, you know, that situation in particular, you know, asked a lot of questions, vetted it.

Ross Bjork was part of those conversations and, you know, and feel really good about the higher. And, you know, our program, as you know, is, uh, got great values and, you know, standards of how we handle ourselves, which, you know, you get to see on a day to day basis. And that's not going to change. Bill Rebellion, it's Columbus Dispash. Yeah. Um, I know you were not going to name any kind of frontrunner for the quarterback job, but, um, people have rigged about the way Julian throws the ball. Um, seems to have all that ability. It seems to be kind of a low key guy. How much do you want to see the fire in him? And that was one of those biggest qualities. Is that almost more the bigger challenge for him than the football stuff? I think all three of them. It's that way. For sure. Yeah. I mean, that being a leader, um, and showing that toughness and showing that fire and showing that grit is, you know, will did a great job with that. We're coming off the heels of that. So again, these guys got a chance to see that. But yeah, I agree with you. I think that that's, that's the biggest challenge. And that's, Mick,

that's a great job of really fostering that behavior, um, enforcing those guys in a leadership role. Get them in front of the team and speak. You know, you got to get going. And that takes reps. So the first few times that might be a little clunky. It may not be very good, but the more you do it, the more confidence you have, and the more you get to find your voice. And that'll be important for the quarterback, as you know here. Two more questions. Um, the land is games of the North. Right. When you have a coordinator like like Matt, who has a lot of success on the same side of the balls that coach, like with the bell. Check how do you evaluate that and try to discern that coordinator's impact as opposed to just like being in a very good situation at succeed? Yeah. And, and you know, like, you know, with Doug's quite like the amount of time we spend vetting all those types of things to find out exactly what's going on. And the history behind it all is, you know, you call the guys that he worked with, you know, and I think that's a great question. And that was, you know, honestly one of my questions, you know, what did it look like? And so, you know, you ask guys who were actually in the building, you know, Nate Evans, one of them, you know, you asked coaches that he coached with. I won't get into the names of the people you call, but you got to, you got to make a lot of calls to find out, you know, about people and. And you know, what you found out was, you know, I mean, he was running the defense now. Certainly coach had a big

hand in that. But as time went on there, you know, it was his show. And there was certain a lot of collaboration there, but. But, you know, he's very, very intelligent, really knows defense of football. And the guys who played for him, you know, really felt like they were getting better because of the way that he taught football fundamentally. And I think even our guys in the building now in a short period of time, it's making a lot of sense to how he teaches the games. So all those things were part of the evaluation. And it's something that we've been looking at, you know, I think that's what I'm going to say. And that's what I'm going to say is that we're going to have a lot of time to talk about the evaluation and the making of decision. Jeff Gilbert, press course coach. A year ago, all the talk was national championship with everything you had in place. This year's different. That a discussion still is that too much pressure of this group. How do you handle expectations with this team? And as you often say, you're not allowed to lose here. Yeah. Yeah. No, it doesn't change our expectations. Don't change. But, you know, I think whether it was last year, the year before this year, I mean, none of that stuff's ever going to change.

And so, you know, we're going to go, but I do think coming off a last year, you get a chance to learn about your team. You get a chance to grow with your team. But, yeah, I mean, I think it's what 176 days or something until we play Texas. I mean, it's, it's coming. It's right around the corner, 173, I think maybe I mean, it's coming. And we got to be ready to go with this team and this group. That's just the way it goes. And, you know, we want to continue to stack these years. And I've got to be playing our best football at the end of the season. But, yeah, I mean, that's, that's not going to change. And, you know, I think last year with everybody coming back and, you know, some of the additions that we made, it sort of created a lot of attention nationally. And that was what it was. But ultimately, that shouldn't have affected how we went about our work. That's just stuff on the outside. And, you know, whatever they're going to say about this team, shouldn't affect how we go to work each day and how we start our first game. Folks, thank you very much. Alright, thanks.

Thank you. What's your favorite game? I've been most highly into you. I know I got a stale in the film. So everything is slow down for me right now. But everything that's really most highly played. How do you guys like to study in our club? What does that mean to you? It's kind of up in transition. Just like Coach Lennon, they played here at Ohio State before, especially at the lineback position. So they know what to do and they know everything that it takes. So just looking up to them and doing what they do, I definitely, definitely going to be good.

You mentioned the game speed being a big difference. Is there been a moment that you've been out on track and still there in the way you're moving? Not really. Just everything right now. Right now, we're just moving pretty fast. But I know I know some slow down. Here Mike right now. How difficult is there to how much more is that for you as a true freshman first spring? Also, you're the middle linebacker. It's just just a responsibility getting everybody lined up, getting the call, but knowing my assignment. I didn't know how it's going to be, but it's just like, up to you. I'm a little bit more. So it's going to take some getting used to, but I know I'm really not much. Do you think that's going to help you in the fall? What? Being Mike. I think it's going to be good. Being able to be in a room around and just taking charge. I'm definitely used to that and coming up with that. So I feel like it's going to be good for me in the fall. Does it help you learn a defensive scheme faster to have that much responsibility? Yeah, for sure. Knowing what everybody's doing and everybody's responsibility is getting to know how to play better.

What's the typical day like for a true freshman middle linebacker trying to learn the teammates off the practice field? Off the practice field. Just waking up and getting here early. Probably watching the watching the film. We got practice or weight. So when I get through that, I mean, I meet in. So more, more the game knowledge. I mean, I've got an individual meeting. So just learning to learn that more. And then after that, after that, we've got class and stuff. So after class, we definitely have to stay on the film some more. What film are you watching? What do you watch? Oh, practice film, practice film. Like your film? Yeah. Knowing what I did wrong, what I could improve on and learn new installs. All of you changed physically since you were only. I definitely got them a bit stronger for sure. Speed, speed, a little bit faster. You came in at what and you are at what now as far as weight? I came in at two and a half and I'm at two tons in here. What's the target weight? You have a certain technical you're trying to get to. Right now, two, thirteen, thirteen.

Doesn't take Mick Lunder. You guys want to be, right? What do you expectations for your freshman? Every time you get to get some talk to James Lornais, he has nice things to say about you. What do your expectations for your first two? Just getting on a field and making plays. I feel like that's a good experience for me. I just want to get out there and make plays. Describe your game. It's a long backer. I think I can do a little bit of everything I can cover, I can rest past it. I can play to run to. I think those are all my strengths. I think my screenplay is faster. I think I see games. When that's usual, big Texas flavor on this team. A lot of Texas guys, it's been like here for the last ten years. That's got to make you feel kind of at home. Talk more about that if you would. Just Texas guys, football is really big in Texas. So with that Texas Ohio pipeline, I'm knowing I got guys from Texas.

I love it. You'll stay through the pre-proc. I'm the goal line. You open up with a long horse, start your play career. Thank you Peter. A little extra gas in the tank. What is it just inspired you to see what Cody Simon was able to do here last year? Not only as a player, but as a leader. That's definitely something I look forward to becoming and being able to do those things. That Cody did, Cody did, the way he played, all the plays he made. I feel like that's a good aim for me. What kind of example is Sunny setting for a group right now? Sunny, his position, his switch from safety to linebacker. I feel like the way that he played last year, being his first year at linebacker. I feel like if he could do what I could do with something. So that's definitely good example. Do you have a lot of experience playing safety? Yes, I'm really seeing that. I'm fresh from here. Back, back, back.

There's a lot of motivational factors. Obviously you want to win this, you want to win a national championship. But how do you keep that same kind of edge mentally that you had in that Tennessee game to give that kind of offensive performance? Yes, that's the challenge, man, is keeping that edge. I think we play well when we have that underdog chip on our shoulder mentality. That's what we came out with last game. That's the challenge, how do we not listen to any of the good stuff right now? Because the same people that are patting us on the back were beating us down two weeks ago. You just got to remember that and remember not to eat any of the sugar and just keep our heads down and keep grinding and keep having that same edge and that same mentality. It really starts with how we practice, I think. Not more.

What kind of helmet? What you share in my head is bracketed. Chip talking about the fact that's really unique when you kind of take advantage of that. That's not like a play calling thing, that's really you. So when you see, hey, we've got a couple guys over there. What's that view for what you see on the rest of the field? What you're receiving in the process? Yeah, anytime, you know, a defense has to put two guys over one. I mean, it's either creating matchups elsewhere or giving you numbers in the box. Whatever it is, you got to be able to work with it and see it. And I wouldn't be surprised if people are going to start bracketing number four. I'd probably do it too. But you got to, you can't forget about 17 and two and 88. Shoot, we got guys elsewhere. So if you try to take one of them out of the equation and we got other teams out there, we got other dudes that are going to step in and make plays too. And that's the thing. You can double them and he'll still go and make some plays. So that's all part of the chess game. Like I said, playing a team twice becomes even more of that back and forth chess game.

How are we going to scheme them up and vice versa? But at the end of the day, it all comes down to execution and finding the matchups where we can and taking advantage of what they give us. David Degouz, my WCMA. You talked a lot about momentum in the playoffs. So what kind of advantage does that give for a team like yours against a team that hasn't played since the big time championship? Yeah, I can't speak for them because they obviously have had a little more time off. But in terms of us, I think playing that first game did give us a little bit of momentum and feeling good going into this next game. If I was coming off of four weeks of rest, I don't know, it'd be a little weird coming out here and playing the first game. But we said we wanted to get that first one and then get this ball rolling from there and keep this thing going. I can't speak for them, I don't know, but we feel good about where we're at. Have a new one? Yeah, well, is Jeremiah always open?

Because Jeremiah thinks Jeremiah is always open. Yes, he is pretty much, they got to put three or four guys over him for him to not be open. Yes, he's unbelievable. Man, he makes some pretty crazy plays and can do some great things off the line of scrimmage. And then when the ball is in the air, he goes and gets that thing. So I mean, he's special. Awesome award for the podcast. Well, this isn't specific to the last play in the early game, but when you're talking about rematch in a second shot, how many times do you think you watched the duration of the first matchup as you're doing a film preparation? Maybe that was two weeks after the game as well with the off-week, but also now, time to prepare for Wednesday. Yeah, more times than I can count, man. We got the game planned in the facility here, so nobody's forgot about it. I watched it quite a few times that by week afterwards, you know, how could I fix it? And then, at the same time, you want to flush it and get away from it, but now that they're back,

you know, they're the squad we're playing. I have watched it, and it hurts me because I'm like, man, there were so many opportunities for us to win that game. And looking back at it, it's like, man, we just didn't play our best ball that day. And it makes you excited because we got another chance at it. And like I said, you don't get a lot of second chances in life. God's blessed us with one. So we got to make sure we take advantage of it. And it's a hell of a team, man. I mean, Oregon's a great team. They do some really good stuff, man. And it's not going to be easy, but we got to go in there and do our thing and take what they give us and impose our will because that's the only way we can do it from here on out. They played six on the against us, then. And so they probably change. The personnel is going to be different. First back out there. What's the balance for you, preparation, where you can watch yourself against them or the other systems that they played since then?

What's the great equation breaking that balance? I don't know if I have that answer. You know, when I'm watching film, I'm watching a bunch of different film. And you know, our game is one of the games they played. So I'm going to be watching that a bunch and then also watching the other games they played because, you know, they have changed a little bit and we've changed a little bit. And you know, nobody's just going to stay the same every every, you know, every year, every every week. You're upgrading. You're trying to become a new version of your team. So we got to, you know, evaluate where we're at, where they're at and see what the best method of trying to figure that out is. We got time for a couple of calls from the Worldwide Web to the Zoom Casual. Oregon writer James Cravy. James? Well, you were certainly quite effective passing against them. What does make their corners effective though? They're both five foot ten. That's relatively small compared to your receivers. What makes them pretty effective a corner? I think they're, they're very athletic and they, you know, they're not as physical as some of the other corners we played against.

You know, they're not trying to like put their hands on you at the line, but they're very good shadow guys. And they're, you know, they stay with, they stay with guys and they stay over top of, of dudes and they don't like to, you know, get beat over the top. And I don't think they get beat very often. You know, obviously they're going against their, their playmakers every day, which, you know, they got some, they got some fast dudes over there. You know, I think, I think they're both great players. I think seven's, you know, I played against him when he was at Oklahoma State. I think he's a, he's a good player. He's solid. They're both, they're both solid players. But, you know, I think, I think we got, we got an advantage physically a little bit that we need to, need to take advantage of and make sure that we don't let them just, you know, stick all over us. And, you know, I'm not worried about that. But, you know, they got good players and we're going to have to show up and, and win our one-on-ones. Let's go to Cameron T. Robinson from the athletic. Hey, well, I think it was a little earlier in the, the pressure you said that obviously you guys have changed. You guys are a different team. But for you, how are you different from that, from since that, since that, since that organ game?

Yeah, I think, you know, you try to evolve every, every week and you try to learn from the, from the good things and from the bad things. And, you know, I don't know if I could say, you know, one, one thing about, you know, where I've gotten better at, you know, what I've gotten better at. Maybe, you know, my completions, you know, just trying to take, take what the defense gives me, trying to get, get smarter with that with my decision making as the years gone on. And just getting more comfortable in the system, I think it is, is another part of it. You know, I don't think there's one thing I can necessarily put my finger on. But, you know, just trying to learn from, from the good and from the bad and, you know, evolve in every single week. We have one more Zoom call, go read, associate, press. Well, what's a bent like having Chip Kelly is your offensive coordinator and just how is a relationship developed and maybe improved during the year? It's been really good, man. He's a super bright guy, run game, past game. I mean, he's coached, you know, some of the, some of the best players that I've, you know, grew up watching.

And, you know, I think just getting to work with him and just getting to be on the same page with him about a lot of things. You know, the more that this year has gone on, we've kind of just, you know, I feel like we're in sync right now, pretty, pretty damn well. And, you know, we both kind of see things the same way sometimes, but then we're able to, you know, have that healthy discussion of, you know, what, you know, what, what do you like here? What do you not like here? You know, I think our relationship has just gotten better and better as the year has gone on. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and working with him. And I think, you know, we've, we've, we've had a good time with it and we want to, we want to finish this thing the right way. Is there a quarterback that he coached it? I mean, you liked or took after? Oh, I mean, I wouldn't say necessarily one of them, but, you know, I did grow up, you know, when I was an Eagles fan and he was the coach of the Eagles. So, you know, I've seen him what, you know, he's brought up clips in the, in the quarterback room of, you know, some of the Eagles stuff. So that was pretty cool.

I don't think there's, I wouldn't say there's one quarterback. I emulate my game after necessarily, but, you know, yeah, it's, it was cool kind of the first time and I was like, oh, damn, you know, coach the Eagles back into this. Cool. That time for just a couple more questions. It even means playing the top. Maybe I'm making too much of this, but I think I'll Jeremiah's second touchdown. I think before the snap, you like looked over there a couple of times. I don't know. Can you just walk us through what you were seeing? And did that play just ultimately turn into, oh my God, he's one on one cover with one safe camera throwing it up? Yeah. So on that play, I'm looking at where the safety is. And if the safety gets over top of him, I'm not going to throw it to him. If he's not over top of him, I'm going to throw it to him and he didn't get over top. So I was just making sure that they were crazy enough to leave him one on one and they were. And by as much as Bill Rubin was telling the fact that kind of along those lines, I mean, when you see him in man's cup, what I want is it almost like automatic. I'm throwing to him. It's an easy position. If we got it called, yeah, yes, pretty much. I mean, there's quite a few routes where, you know, it's an ex-isolation or a one on one concept.

And, you know, if we have one on one with him or really, you know, you leave any of our receivers one on one and it's pretty hard to guard. Metta's a very talented receiver, Carnell, and Brandon. But Jeremiah just seems like out of different levels than anybody, especially if it's Frenchman. Do you guys have that appreciation? Like, oh man, this guy is special when he's a Frenchman. Yeah, I mean, I think you forget about it a lot. You know, when you're around it every single day, you kind of forget that the kids was in high school a year ago. You know, he just doesn't. You just around him. You don't feel like he's a high school kid. You don't feel like he's an 18-year-old, 19-year-old. Like he's just mature beyond his years. And yeah, he's special, man. He's different. I've never seen a kid his age. I've really never seen anyone be able to do some of the stuff that he's able to do. So, you know, I've only been here for, you know, 12 months or whatever. But yeah, he can do some some pretty unbelievable stuff. Well, thank you very much. Thank you guys. Go Bucks.

I feel like when you get here, it's just it's a whole other level. Um, he's going to keep coaching well. He's going to be hard on you. He's going to tell you what you're doing. Okay, that's going to tell you what you're doing wrong. And you're just going to push it to be your best. They have been moving all over. Yes, moving all over. Yes, sir. What was it like for you just getting to be here and see, you know, this team win an national championship in the first few weeks on campus? It was crazy. I feel like I knew that they were going to do it from the beginning of the season. I feel like they always had the potential. And then they came out here that did it and the freshmen we had an opportunity to sit there and watch it. So I feel like now we just got to do it again. What did you learn from that? Just it's all hard work and it's just a bunch of guys and it's really a brotherhood and it's really just our family versus their family. And we just got a person here and we got to win the games and get back to the net. The timeline. The timeline was saying that Park Allen brand and the really been leaders in the room. So what if how have they both been leaders for you and the every young. They've been leaders just in multiple ways, whether our column were in their in the film room together on the jugs.

I'm asking them about this route. How I could run it better. I'm asking them how I run this route on this play just many different things. I feel like those guys. They're like big brothers and all that does help me. A valuable is that to have guys that are playing like a ballman also been a college for a while. So we're doing good ask a few of the various things about college life. How valuable. Is real valuable for sure because they're they're fresh around pit guys. So I feel like just being in a room with those guys. And if you're able to thrive with those guys, you know, some's going good for you. What are your impressions that you brought back to you specifically? I guess specifically. What have you kind of known about him and what about him? I had a I always had a good relationship with Tavion. He recruited me hard to come here. So I feel like we always talked and he came here and he's been doing this thing. They've all been doing their thing and Julian saying he's another Cali Kassel. I had a little relationship with him too. So good to see Julian Lincoln and Tavion all doing real good. What is that next step for you?

What are the terms of evolution? What do you want to get better at? I just really just everything. I feel like you can never be too perfect. I feel like you just got to keep doing your job. So I say maybe just just showing up more and just doing my job to the T. Going against these corners or these TVs, how does that kind of make you better? It's their protect. In high school, I had a five star corner DJ DJ on Lee. He's at Alabama. So I always had good work with corners. So I feel like it's just a lot. I'm going against a lot of good guys now instead of just being one on one that practice with DJ. So it's real good for short. Does it take more courage to play with slot? Say it again, please. Does it take more courage to play with slot? What do you mean by that? Because there's more stuff. But they think there's bigger injuries inside. You've got to be aware of it, but it doesn't. Does it take more courage to do that? I guess you can say that. I feel like I've just always played slot enough. I feel like that's what I've been better at. So I feel like I feel like it's just what I have to do to be on the spot.

No matter who's in front of me, how big he is, how strong he is, I feel like if I got in the sight, I'm going to do it. I just want to tackle as a position that draws a lot of focus. I get really busy with pressure and the position on the line. In Europe, what is the problem mindset to succeed? I think that the mindset for me has always has been that when I win my one-on-one, the ball goes down the field. You know what I mean? I think that's what I'm most excited about just being a left tackle is that, especially with the protections that are a little bit of longer plays where the left tackle tends to be one-on-one or the plays I tend to love the most because halfway through the play, I can't go anywhere. I start to smile, but you're like, oh, dude, ball's gone. You know what I mean? Ball's gone and it's going to be a touchdown, it's going to be a huge gain. So I think for me, that's kind of the mindset you have to have to tackle as soon as I win my rep, we're going down the field.

So that's just the mindset I have in terms of how well I have to prepare. Do you want to get that mindset, or do people able to get that? Honestly, I would say that mindset kind of came from college. Again, obviously I played with a lot of great guys in college. You know, and glad we have all of those guys here. You know what I mean? To throw the ball to as well, just because against one of those things, like with CJ, you just, again, a left tackle, my mindset was just, well, CJ just do his thing. I want Kyle to be able to do his thing. Don't worry about whoever's over here, just do your thing. That's why you're here. And just throw it to Marvin. And you know, it will be good. You know what I mean? So that's something excited about. And I think all that starts because of what we do on the line. So I think just not just myself, but the entire room takes pride in. Hey, like when we do our job upfront, that's where everything else goes. So what these guys we have with the ball in their hands, do all that magic. We just got to do our job just to entertain it when you're one on one, you know.

You know, just playing that that spot means something special just because of the history of that position. And, you know, just of all the greats that have played left tackle. I mean, do you ever think about just the past and the, you know, the people, the players before you who were in that spot and did great things? Yeah, I mean, again, I feel like just from just as a young guy in a game, I of course try to, I like to watch the, the greats the game. I like to watch guys like a weight worth, of course, you know, a willy Anderson, you know, he played on the right side, but again, I think continuing to watch the greats that played the game just can take the dominate for those guys from maybe able to talk to them again to be able to learn from their story and their journey. And how they developed, of course, I understand I want to create a, I want my game to be able to be like theirs in a way to where it's talked about in a way of like that's a guy you need to watch just to watch with, you know, the fight that you played with the finish that you played with the technique you played with because those guys played almost 20 years, you know what I mean.

So, and again, I think that's something when you watch the guys, the legendary guys come before, yeah, you know, they're strong and they're tough guys, but you know, I don't know, but when you're like 36, 37 years old, you probably not that strong. Not as strong as you used to, but that technique and just the skill set, that's something that I admire. You mentioned earlier about the guys going out to UCLA and kind of getting out of the heat. I'm curious, when you're working out here, do you do anything outside or do you avoid it altogether right now? I don't know, I'm always outside. I'm always outside. I don't mind the heat. I love the heat. And honestly, for me, it helps. I'm also like 30, 20, so I kind of warm up quickly. So, it's kind of nice when I warm up. I don't have to be doing like 30 minute warm up. You know, you kind of just be outside long enough, collect this and your joints are on go. So, I actually, I like it a lot. Going back to the players that have been in the league for a while, Calvin Beachham is one of those guys that's been in the league for a decade plus. What have you been able to learn from him?

I think, again, just learning how to be a pro in terms of certain things. For example, I'm a guy that when I like to train by myself, I'll just take a thousand reps of a set, a thousand reps of a reach block. I'm a rep, rep, rep, rep, and type, I've done a hundred times and I wrote perfect. And some of that beach is like talking about in terms of being a pro. And I thought to me, that's me being a pro is a young guy. I've got a lot of reps in my body. So, I'm going to take a lot of reps and preparation. But beach is a guy where it's like, it's not about necessarily the quantity in terms of its really through the quality. But even more so, he's like, you know, obviously he's going to be doing something like this every single day. But when you do it like from your first rep, even your first rep is not like here. I'm taking this rep. Oh, it wasn't good. It's going to be better in the second one, like each rep, even when you're by yourself is just kind of, I guess a mindset, I just give yourself 15 reps instead of doing 60 reps. And I sounds like a huge difference, but then you out of mind taking 60 reps from by myself. And there's nobody that's waiting around on me. And I'm by myself, I can take my time and I'll do that. But just being like, I'm going to do 15 perfect reps. And I'm just going to slow down and take all my time.

Stuff like that. That way your body, I way or not, you're not, you're not doing too much before. Can't, you know. Many of the guys that left guard in the mix were here last year, except for ever. How does that relationship develop throughout the next season? So honestly, I like that. That's my guy. We like to compete. We've been competing in the weight room since day one in terms of just like what we consider like athletic competitions. So like even in the weight room, I'm at the very end of the week when we're done lifting. I'll talk to Evan, I'll be at an understanding. We'll just do some sort of competition, whether it's grip or whether it's John, but where it's pull ups or something. And I don't let him wave until I beat him in these two things. Like so, so if we do, if we do a jump thing and like I always thought was the best kind of at the most height when I jumped out of a line, I could dominate anybody and that, but he beat me in that surprising size of art. And then we're hopping on the bike. And then we did this bike thing. I beat him on a bike. And we're now we're going to pull up. Talk to him beat him on a personal kid. Now we can leave.

But we just have that that and we're just always just competing. And then again, obviously, you know, he wasn't on the team with us last year. I think what he brings at the table with being a vet is that he's like a plug and play guy. You know, he knows he's been in those scenarios before. He's played with guys like Penae when he was with Detroit. So obviously, he's just being able to talk to him and how this is how it was when I was setting with Penae. This is how it was. I was saying to see all these are the different things that I can do that mere some things like in your game how you set. And I'll talk to him about what I like to do in certain scenarios and how his set can sort of match that. Does that make sense? So I think he adds a lot. What's the long as you stayed after until you beat him? To the point where a strength coaches like you guys got to go like you guys should go. You know, we're not trying to break any rules around here.

But you know, but it's just me and him just going any loves it. You know, so and even us starting to do that we started to get other guys in the O line that tried to hop in on our competition for fun. But only matters what be Evan. It's just I'm just beating you know, so it's fun. Yeah, I think this is probably the biggest year. This is better than not sure and even even though having a great year last year is just that the buying is just it's unimaginable how good that we want to be like we want this back. And I think all of us coming together and all of us coming back this year. It's just it's a group understanding that we want to come and we're handling business. There's nothing more than just business.

Statistically, I mean, you look, I think you guys are going to have 20 points last year. There's not a lot statistically to do to get better. So where improvements can you guys make to really kind of get to that level? I think the improvements we need to do and need playing good throughout the year. But when the big games come, we got to play. I mean, that's the way it has to be the best. We can't rely on anyone else. It has to be the defense that really runs the show. Have time, have the offense. Got carry motor back and have them do the day do know how to worry about us. Let no points or anything like that. So definitely big games. We have to we have to come. Yeah, definitely feels like a big difference. We just got a lot of guys. We got a lot of good special talent. And you know, you just got to find a way to get these guys on the field. And it's just having a lot of new guys. We got to definitely bring them in and definitely find like it's fine to deal with them. Get a chemistry with them. It's just bringing defense closer than we were last year. And that's why my man goes.

He's just a worker. He's been working for as long as he's been here. And he's just you want to keep trying to find ways to get better every single day. And I just wanted things out of ploddle for. He's very passionate. He's very passionate about getting this back. You know, he just he has in his heart and being being being a kid from a house just like me is just having a passion for one to win. Like you're playing for the Ohio State University. You want to win. You don't want to have to have to settle for anything less. What do you see for them in the second half of the last season? He really seems like things really put for him down the stretch in that Minnesota game. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I think it just I mean, he just have to be bought in. I mean, as a unit together, we just wanted to do better. We wanted to be better every single game. And I feel like he just understood that. And every time we went in, he just knew that we were playing for each other. So he went out there. He played. He stopped thinking. Stop thinking less than just going and you just played and the play showed out for him. The card is a player to, I guess, get to that place where the game comes natural. You're not thinking so much.

Oh, yeah. I think it definitely comes with experience. I mean, usually players play better towards the end of the season because they have more experience than being out there. So when you play more, you usually know more what's going to happen. So let's say it would be easier to be out there rather than thinking at most of the time. There you go. I'll just ask the central how guy just what does this mean? I mean, you're here. You're here just. What does it mean for you to take pride in what school? I don't know if it's a special feeling to me and it feels like I have like the whole city on the back on my back. Just being able to be out here and just is a blessing to be playing for the outside university. So I mean why the cherish every single day just treat like my last. The third year under coach knows you guys feel like you got the defense internalized and know every fit of what you need to know, I guess. Yeah, I think the being the third year, I mean, the defense is just like right now it's just fine tune a little things. I mean, everything we're stuck. We're very blue. We're a glue with everyone with all the plays and stuff like that.

We just fine tune them little things that we can get better at and pretty much just bringing in with anything new that we have just bring it in and really bring it together. So I think we're good. People look at you and Tileek as the main guys inside, but you're some of the other guys that really start to come on. They're going to be giving you guys some extra playing time against this year. I think a lot of a lot of guys are really pushing forward to bring playing a lot of interior guys like hero. I think they came McDonald guys like that will some of all the guys back there. They're really pushing and playing. Anybody in a defense line could play right now. I feel like us together as a union and make each other better every single day. That's what's going to make everyone because we're trying to get this year to everybody to play. Everybody needs to play. Good. Thanks a lot. What do you feel like you can do this year as a fifth year guy to take your game the next level? Right now it means stepping into a fifth year of being here a while. It's a leadership role.

I feel like being a leader in here I really have to push the younger guys and really have to step up for the men. I've been here a long time so I feel like really elevating the guys below me and really making them better. If they can play just as good as I can play then we're going to be unstoppable. How does it help you play confidence when you have so many veterans around you guys that you've played them so much? It helps us because it just has the chemistry thing. So it's being together for so long. Being in the system for so long is like natural. We go out there. We don't have to think too much. We just go out there and play because we know we got each other. For you was it an easy decision to come back for another year or did you have to think about it? Definitely had to think about it a little bit but I think all of us coming back we all had to understand that we still have something here. We need to finish this unfinished business that we can take care. What are the biggest things that you feel like you can do this year to help yourself get to that next longer? Definitely think just playing harder and just having more experience to be out there and playing the game and being out there more and just refining my technique and stuff like that. Just being able to be out there and make more plays and just being in the right position at the right time.

Does a defensive line in the hole like what do you guys have specific goals for yourself this year? How do you think you can get better as a unit? Right now we don't have specific goals. We're working on technique and we're working on the little things because little things are in a big thing. Right now we're just trying to get the small and the fine detail refining because we're going to go out there and we're going to need those when you get in the game. You mentioned your leadership. How have you seen the death behind you start to develop this? Definitely coming together. There's a lot of guys. There's a lot of guys really growing up and really pushing the ranks right now. I mean as I said, anyone could play. I mean just the way they work every single day. Any guy could come in and play in a position. Is there anyone who's really jumping out to you so far with spring? I mean all the guys are jumping out. We've only been two practices so far but I think all the guys are really working. It's like a group unit that everybody is pushing hard so. Thanks, Ty. Thanks Ty. Alright. I don't know where Jay ran off to but that leads me through the classroom.

You have a way through the end game and they both played both positions in your defense and their conch careers. Does it really matter and what you pull those two then? If they can both play both, you've got Jordan in the slot. Is that even? I don't know. You do because you have specific job responsibilities within those but they become more interchangeable and fluid in how you can function with those pieces. It's not like a true strong or a free safety. You know what I mean? Those guys are able to compliment each other and you have more flexibility within your packaging to put those guys in position to make place. What have you seen for Jay? He's time. We saw him on Saturday running with the ones with the two. Seems like he's making a little bit of his opportunity with the two. Yeah, he's been a guy that's been on the rise. You know, to me from where he was when he started spring ball to where he is now. He's made more plays at practice. His eye discipline is better. His understanding of the defense is better which allows you to be able to play free and be able to play fast.

So that's what I've seen so far and I can I expect that to continue. He's been great. He's been great. He first off we do a thing where we track. How well you run to the ball every practice. One of the things that we grade. You can talk about all the schematics that you want. Coach Knowles has all that but if you're not running to the ball, you're not playing good defense. We track that and he's one of the guys that every single practice is one of our highest grade guys running to the ball. So he's been awesome from an effort standpoint first attitude. He's in early. He puts the work in and he's made a bunch of plays out here. So now I'm excited about Jay on the client for sure. You're talking about running to the ball. Do you mean like he's ball hockey really well in the back end or is it a nose for the football running game or both? Yeah, so we're really tracking effort and how hard a guy's playing from there is what we do. But I would say this too. He's been around the ball a lot. Right with his alley running and he's downing the ball and on a break through run or fitting gaps and things like that. And then he's got really good range in the post or the half to so he's done a good job of both of those things. I guess all the above.

Yeah, I do. I do. And you know, it's been an opportunity for you have a couple guys that are out there. So you're able to continue to grow the depth and be able to see what guys can do and you increase reps from that standpoint. So I do feel confident. You know, I feel confident in the guys that, you know, how they've performed so far this spring. And the guys that haven't been out there. I feel confident from what their abilities are, what I've seen on film. And then the mental preparation from that standpoint now would go back to refer to, you know, what late. And was like a couple years ago and taking that same blueprint. Yeah, he's done. I would say the mental side. I would say is if you took he has really good physical skills. You see him when he walks on the field. I mean, he's a. Yeah, no doubt. I would say the mental side of the game, right? Really understanding what's the defense? What's my progression? Where do I fit into this chess piece? You know, what's my chess piece in this whole match that's happening? And yeah, I've been pleased with him and he's putting the work in to make sure he understands what's going on. What is your.

I wouldn't say we're not say it's great, right? And because his preparation is so high level, it challenges you as a coach to be an elite teacher, right? Because he's going to be on his game. It's like coaching a professional player, right? He understands the concepts in the game so well. He's put so much time into it as a coach. You better be matching or equaling that, right? Going above and beyond that because if not, he's going to be a step ahead of the coach, right? So that's it's been awesome to be able to push each other to make each other better. He's got a great understanding and feel for the game. He's a great young man. The work ethic is really high level. So every value that you would look for, not just for a skill or intangible thing, but who he is as a person. I can't say enough about who Caleb Downs is. It's been awesome. What's the next step for you from waiting? I'm talking about the preparation that Caleb has. Coming back from your final. Yep. Coming back from injury. What do you want to see from him? Maybe it's leadership. Maybe it's on the field. I don't know. What is it for you? Yeah, I think leadership is definitely something, right? He's a guy that's been there, done that.

He has accomplished a lot, but not the goals that he wants to yet. So I would say from a leadership standpoint, holding guys accountable and he's done that at a really high level. And then his own preparation. I've been impressed with, you know, if you're not taking as many physical reps, what are the mental reps that you're taking? And he's done a really good job of having daily routine, putting the time in, making sure that he's conscious of everything. So I would say the off the field stuff is a step in the right direction. What did you take away from your experience last year as a coach coordinator? Since we last saw tonight, you've been through multiple spring practices. What did you learn something in your time or the weather? For you as a coach that you brought here to bring the safety of your mission? Yeah, I think that you learn different ways to be able to do things, whether it's taking the ball away or tackling methods or the way that it's taught from other defensive coaches. So to learn from a different tree and thought process and philosophy, I try to, I pride myself on being a teacher, which means that you better always be learning.

So I would say, yeah, just different ways to be able to maybe do similar techniques or things that have to be done from a defensive principal standpoint and then, you know, bringing that to the table. As you step back and you say, okay, here's how I've always done it. Or I've done it in the gymnol system right and then you're in a different defensive system. And how does that get executed? And then you can blend some of those or pick what you like from there. So a chance to reflect that, say. Did you feel like you accomplished what you wanted to away from the gymnol system to bring it back to the gymnol system? Yeah, I mean, I think any time that you're no matter where you're coaching, right? You have principles of defense and a way to be able to play defense, whether you're how you tackle or how you play the red zone or different things like that. And there's metrics to be able to track that and some improvement was made. Not enough of my opinion. You only move there were strides from that standpoint. And then, yeah, when you come back into it, you say, okay, the system here has developed in a year that I was gone. And then maybe I'm able to develop a little bit as a coach to and from a positional coach or a coordinator mindset, things like that.

And then you're able to mesh ideas and come back and you learn, hey, what's the new that's happened over a year? And then I was able to see the big 10 from a different lens as well. So I think that's valuable. Man, it's a last question down a few safeties on Saturday. How do you feel about your depth of that position right now? Yeah, it's something that we've addressed and say, hey, here's the guys that have played. Here's the guys that haven't played. Who's taking the reps right now and how do we grow those guys? You know, from that standpoint. So I think that's a work in progress every single day. So I've been pleased with the guys. I think there's been a on the, you know, steadily on the rise approach from everybody in the room. You know, so I've been pleased with the guys and the progress that they've made. So I feel good about it. And I expect that to continue throughout spring and then continue throughout summer and into fall camp. You know, from that standpoint, yep. For some of those guys that may need haven't played much of your year, but you're seeing they going to move this spring. Yeah, Jayden Bonz was taking advantage of the opportunity that he's had. Jaylon McClain's taken an opportunity, you know, advantage the opportunity. Inky had a really good day today. You know, it's taking advantage of the opportunity. So the guys that, you know, are taking reps, you know, I'm pleased with watching those guys, you know, continue to progress.

You know, and the Caleb, I think, is, you know, learned our system and done really well and gotten better every day. All right, thank you. Thanks. Appreciate it, guys. The game, the intensity, you know, I've said a thousand times that he doesn't get incrementally faster or stronger. The game mentally slows down for him so he can use his skill set that way. So what is that we're talking about? That's his weight, that's his strength. Because those numbers are going up. So he can play with more pillar strength. He can play more contact. He can play more comfortable, even though his 40 time didn't go from a 50 to a 48. How have you seen Seth activate himself into that? Very much of that. He just jumped right in. Unbelievable job, both ways of him just coming in with shelving the ego that he really had none and walking in saying, I'm walking into a room as we told him we recruit him, like, you're coming into a room, a bunch of good dudes. And then our good dudes are good dudes. He came in and there was no, it's like, you're here.

Here's how we do. Here's how we operate. And let's go. And so that learning curve for all those, whether it's a high school mid-year guy or a veteran mid-year guy, it transfers in, there's a learning curve there. Just circling back to what we had, natural maturation a little bit because he's been through a little bit of spring boys, been through a little bit of camps. So you're still learning the terminology, you're learning a new skill set. But he just dove right in and wanted to be a sponge and wanted to learn it. He's doing a good job and he's improving every day. So that's what's making the battle and the competition and all these great snaps really good for us is because they all have that mindset. So from Seth, awesome. The unit in the group, awesome because there was no combativeness to it. It was, let's get in, let's go on this compete and then let the guys win. Just to learn about Luke said the skillset made you guys what you put in the good work of course. Just learning the same deal. All the young guys you come in, you gotta learn how to play in friction. So having three tech, having two eye, having those guys like right in front of you, that every time you take one of those reps and you're out of your base or you're in your base, you feel the good, you feel the bad.

So being more consistent that way, you know, you can't make moves or shift guys if they're not mentally there. And so for him, he's got a pretty good football FQ. So he's continuing, he's growing every day, he's working and he's getting beat every day too and he's learning from those. You know, it's on the spring time. You know, we have saying in our room we're like in the spring it's yes and it's no. And I know it's KNOW. Why didn't the rep work? What happened? And how do I make sure I don't repeat the same mistake? And so whether he's coming in and watching the tape on his own and then come with questions, he's grabbing me and watching tape with me or we're coming doing stuff as a unit. He's learning so that same deal the game can slow down and he gets more comfortable there in friction. So I mean, his weights up, his strengths up, he's spending all of his season with Mick. You know, there's a lot of development that still has to be had. Obviously not a finished product, but being able mentally for a guy to handle that, you know, helps a lot. Are there any good answers? Yes sir. Similar to Carson. Yes, the bottom can be up. Luke is involved. He seems kind of like a leader.

Luke, a leaner guy. Did you tell him that? He paid you to say that? He did not pay me to say that. That might be the first time he ever heard that in his life. No. No. No. You know, like Luke, Carson, whoever maybe, that jump of 18 to 19 to 19 to 20 year old kid, that plays a lot into it too. Being in a full year with Mick, I mean, all those guys, you coming at mid-year, like your Devo and Dion and Ian more right now, you're keeping your head above water. That's your whole first year. Now you can actually get and we can sit. So when you sit and talk about a jam combo or a lock or whatever the call may be to Luke, he registers that. And I like something new because then there's paralysis by analysis. So I think the middle part on top of another year, natural maturity of getting bigger and stronger, that's always going to help. You're not going to, guys here, they're not going to regress. It's going to keep adding progress and how fast can we get that going as well. We're working on every day with him.

But Josh said that he would have been all guard to this point. And Coach Day is mentioning this several times that Josh could play guard too. And you guys are trying to work through that, Friar. Josh could play all five. He snapped the ball in high school. Josh had a great off season. But for you when you're going to your spring and it's fact-finding and experimentation, how much do you want to put them in different spots or not? Because you also have an eye on August to try and settle on five-man rotation. What's the balance of that for you? You have to get a really good, great upset so that everybody has numbers of, you know, just like we said before, how many times have we done? A run blocking or pass blocking in this situation so that that all evens out. So that's the, it's not experimentation. It's just making sure that you get a good book of work to look at and grade that. So as we, you know, work guys around the platoons and go just to make sure that everybody gets good, greatable reps. So we can sit back by the end of spring and say, all right, this is your comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

And not, you know, apples to oranges because it's completely different that way. So that's kind of the thought behind that as you're going through the spring. I hear a couple of you guys, because I would have told you, you're still now, Chip Kelly is going to be here as an offensive coordinator. What would you have said? Not a laugh. You know. But then I said, you know, it's college football. So who knows, right? What's up in, like, I'm sure you're enjoying it. What's up in the list? Yeah, I mean, he just added to another piece of just good people here. I mean, you still, you're coming to work here with the guys every day, you know, with the kids we talk about a thumb, but then for us as coaches as staff. So adding just another good dude that's in the room. Obviously, as he says something and, you know, he might speak in old terms or terms that we had, you know, maybe be a little bit of the Rosetta Stone. Like, no, no, this is this. He's like, yeah, that's right. Because that happens to all coaches. That happened to me when we got here. First, I was at what's coach day sometime with Ryan's like, you know, what do we call this? Because he was in a system like that before. And he's like, oh, this is this now. So I think just the, you know, translation of Rosetta Stone there helped.

But just overall standpoint of adding a great guy that's a great coach that's been around that's, he's going to supplement the room. And every time you add something new to the room, then that makes the room better, it makes you individually better. Oh, look how he does that. Maybe I could do that. Maybe I could bring that to my meeting room. Maybe I can bring that to communication to the staff or to the kids or whatever it is. Because he's, he's done it for a long time and he's done a high level for a long time. So it's good to add that guy to us and then continue as us to rest the staff for me and Brian and Key. And everybody just learning and growing with that. What does he bring to me? It kind of specifically just, I mean, does he from a talent standpoint? Does he see things sometimes, others don't see, I mean, does he, I mean, what does he kind of bring from the chalkboard aspect of that? Well, I mean, what you're saying? So what does he see? It's good to have fresh eyes come in that maybe, you know, you're getting a routine and you're getting a rhythm and all of a sudden. You're like certain aspects of like the running game. It's like the football. You know, he's one of those guys that I think goes into categories, forgotten a lot of football and some people have learned in their life.

But no, his, I believe he coached every position on the field, both sides of the ball through his whole career. So as he looks up and he writes when he's talking about, well, this wheel linebacker is going to do that. Then he might have coached that at Columbia, right? Or this is what the three techs going to read on the down block of a tackle. Because he's coached the offensive line and he's been a coordinator for a long time. So just a really good vision of big picture, understanding and, you know, the next step and not just being right now, yeah. What does that stick to? If he had a theme or whatever, this spring, because I mean, this seems kind of like a, not a make it a break in time for him. The time to step up and step in. This point was nobody cares. Nobody cares what struggles you have or whatever. You got to go out there and feel like you can get the job. It's a life boy. If you know she thinks different about tech, what do you see about tech? Yeah, he was competing his butt off. I mean, he's kind of living that way. You know, that's why we have the red line over there. When you cross the line, you know, coach, they talk about that here, like, that it's, it's, the game doesn't care.

You're off the field. You got to come out and step out and do your job. It doesn't care about anything off the field, right? It's not really negative and harsh, but then it also, if you just spin your tone, like, isn't it beautiful that the game doesn't care? It doesn't care that your skin color, your socioeconomic background, where you've come from. If you just want to do it the right way in the 53 and a third, the game will love you back. You know, so I think it's the approach mentally that guys take that way. So yeah, for Tegrit, he's, he's taking that approach. Like he wants to come in and be a guy. So he's fighting and clawing and scratching every day. He makes a mistake. He's trying to correct it when he does it well. He's trying to enhance it. And that's what competitive people do. And that's what he's showed up to do. So I, that's good that he said that. Or says, what's his command on the field been like as a center? And is that difficult when you're coming into a new offensive line to have that? Or is there something innate about the center position? If you've been experienced at it, like he has where you kind of have that, I guess command on field over with any offensive line.

So I should say it over, it's start over again. You're saying the comfort of center with who now? Seth. Yeah, I'm saying like how has his command of the field been? And has it been difficult, I guess, to adjust for him if he's to have a certain level of on field command, you know, at that center position? Yeah, I mean, it's a, on command, it's just great communication getting everybody on the same page. Yes, having a bunch of banked reps helps. But then when you do come into a new offense, just like we talked, you know, a chip a little bit earlier. You know, he might have called it yellow and we call it green or something. I don't just make it stuff up, but the transition of that in your head to get going with that. But yeah, the comfort of having a ball on your hand, having a guy, I mean, you talk about acclimation of football. Like play one handed and have, you know, tie leak this far from your face. You better have command of something, you know, so you got to understand the communication and the technique and those things there. So yeah, I think him coming into a new place, the game's not as fast as it probably would be for a younger guy. But also there's some mistakes there that he can learn from and grow from.

And the same day, he's, you know, the one thing we're not having concerns with, we're not driving right now as the guys just competing and trying to get better after a mistake. Or like we said, Tigray, enhancing as they've done some stuff really well and he's adapted to that really well. This spring is the same for Sam and how do you assess their building by center versus guard? They both have been ripping its center. Yeah, for the competition aspect, could they roll out and play guard? Yeah, probably both of them could. How do you assess that? You just got to give them a bunch of guard reps. But if you thin guys out too much that way, then that's not good coaching, you know. So we got a good plan with everybody, those two guys included as we're moving ahead. But yeah, they've been really working at center position right now both of them. Would you advise to watch our center, Joe? No, I have it. He obviously came after spring practice next year. How does that seem down here in the city?

How has he been this spring? It kind of speak to how what the challenge must have been for him last year, not having spring practice step-in play that position in the experience for him. Yeah, same. He's been here not even a four year yet. So coming in the summer, doing what he did, coming in through the fall. And then now, I mean, the same with him. Sound like a broken record. I think the game's slowing down for him. Those mistakes that may have showed up are the questions that he had through the fall. And as we got going through the season, those are starting to erase a little bit, which is good. His communication level is just talking more. That's probably the best thing that he's done so far. He's a highly, highly talented guy. We're just developing that skills and discipline and does go into communication. So as he communicates and talks, that's probably the biggest thing I've seen from him, which I think volume and communication equals confidence. And so he's playing much more confident right now. He obviously has talent. He also would have a few plays of game or the penalty or whatever.

Can you see them reduce those? A bunch. Yes. Coach, thank you very much. Hey, sure. Thanks, guys. Thanks, Jeff. You're my bare fans. Thanks, Jeff. I understand. All right, folks, we will come back when? Communication, I think that's about the biggest thing. Open ear and little big games. But you got to be able to call it out, like the pressure might come and stuff like that. So it's the winnest of both. I'm curious about the Q&A. I think Coach Ryan is coming to summer. If the start is graduating, how you feel spring is going? Is there a level of understanding how the coach is and what he wants to lose for years? And how do you have a better down? I hope you... Folks, we have Dallin, Hayden, not the 20. Yeah, he wants just 100% effort and just work hard. Like obviously, like, there's more to it, but those are the things that he wants to do and want to play fast. Like, basically, that's the sum I pick at every day. Coming out here gets the best to do it for him. I don't know if it's all a four-dumple. You've got that one actually. Is it almost like you have all the stuff that was thrown in me, all the stuff I had to adjust to?

I don't know if it's that. That's a great amount of use to do it for me. Definitely, but I kind of... Like when I come in here, I knew Coach Ryan and the staff, like they were going to... They're going to definitely like scope me into the player. Like that I know. Yeah, scope me into that. Yeah, like they know that like scope. Yeah, like just kind of make me into that type of player. I mean, the development factor from Coach Ryan and getting these, like, I didn't even... It's like magic almost. So I mean, I'm just kind of keep going with him and keep riding with him. You know, having his free practice, having his son or all has the focus on how much better he'll be doing. I guess we'll see. I'm going to keep picking at it and... Sure. ...since my players... ...coaches and strategies and pick that. First of all, you have three with that? What do you think they should do? I guess... Yeah, I would say sure, but I mean, I can't really take credit for something like that. You know, the player like that is the man above, kind of put that in my gym, so... How much is running game changing? New odds, whatever you want to call it, with Chip Kelly in charge?

What if you noticed this little bit, little new odds as her stuff? I mean, maybe like little things. I mean, little things add up to big things, right? Yeah, I mean, yeah. Yeah, well, where do you think you guys were lacking at some point last year in certain... ...some of those matchups? I mean, it was a whole new line, so I mean, like, I know the side came a few times with each other, but other than that, it was... I mean, it was a hard game, nothing's going to be like, for sure, what's going on, you know, you can have some hard times. Did Missouri test y'all about as well as anybody? Just about, yeah. Yeah, they were pretty good. What did you know coming out of there, y'all had to get fixed? To be honest, I felt like we just tried to go out there and just play hard. Like, obviously, you know, number six was a really good player, so we just tried to make sure keeping out of the back good as much as possible, so that's really, we tried to go to... Describe your game a little bit, Josh, when you do well, when you're still in the top of those? Just, just try to do it. Yeah, so as a left tackle, I got to feel like the number one job is to make sure nobody gets to the quarterback.

And that's something that I try to do, make sure nobody kind of get around me or goes through them or anything. Just keep the quarterback in the other field, a lot more. Yeah, be able to be a well on the player, you know, more people in the run and stuff like that. But like, that's probably one of the biggest things, not sure if the quarterback is going to run the block. I was essentially something out here. Yeah, so I mean, we got, I mean, we have the main deal I mean, we got to throw us twist in and stuff like that. So in the run, no twist is, so it's kind of like, I guess you just got to really stay technically sound. And that's something I'm trying to do in the run. Josh, if you're going to get Mitchell Melmuch this spring and stuff, but what stands out about him, obviously he came back from a couple of knee injuries and stuff. But what's just jumped out at you about him? Yeah, you wouldn't even know he had the two knee injuries. I mean, he's so, like the way he rushes, it's so, like, it's his signature rush. Yeah. It's something that you can't, it's probably the hardest person I've had to block here. Yeah. If I'm being honest, like, he's very twitchy, great with his hands. Amazing to get off. And he has that sneaky power. Like, if you're not really like setting for it, he'll get you.

And everyone gets your take. You know, he came here from San Diego State. Your center, the guy's transferred in Seth McLaughlin, whether he starts or not, we'll see. Right or no. He's from Alabama. He's an amazing you have college football teams who are put together anymore. Yeah. Because he could be a key thing. And what does that just tell you about the game these days? I mean, yeah, I mean, it can go anyway. I mean, like Seth is a great player. I mean, he tells me like, you know, stuff that they did differently about him. I try to take some of like, maybe some advice he has because he's been in college football for a little longer than me. Yeah. Yeah, he seemed like a grown up, didn't he? Yeah. He comes across that way, then. Yeah. What's the line? What's the line? The line is your absolute master. The line is your absolute master. The line is your goal. What's the line? Play fast, play physical. I mean, there's obviously more that we're working on. We're learning like each other to be honest. I guess the right side is kind of like going a little bit. I mean, not with fire, but like, you know, we have like some people that are going to pick up. I mean, we're all competing. I know I am. And stuff like that. So I just, you're just trying to play hard and play.

How true most of my crew is for us. How helpful is, how, how, how necessary is really a spray? How do you have that? Yeah, I, it's very necessary, especially when you kind of got a new OC and stuff like that. It's best to kind of get, you know, comfortable with the scheme now. Then maybe like close to camp, because then like in like a few weeks and you have to, you know, we're going so. Yeah. Good time last year for like, Jim, you know what, lead on to future. Uh, I mean, Don, he's like, dude, I owe Don a lot of, like he's an amazing player. He gives me like insight on just what it's like Notre Dame. I've never been like more nervous for a game than Notre Dame. I mean, I just kind of talked to him and he said, we got it. Keep doing what you do and we got to, we got to open the W. Probably a lot of the shit. Oh, yeah, especially. Thank you. I just, you know, people just trying to talk to you saying, you saw the war saw the tackle, commenting on my girlfriend's post of, yeah, and it's all out great. And it's kind of crazy to see, but at the same time, like, I understand their passion for us to win.

So I get that. Do you think it went bad? I didn't think it was, um, some of my standard. Um, I thought I was thinking too much, uh, and not playing. Um, and I've deleted my social media. So, um, I got other people who control my social media now. So I don't, I don't do any of that. Any of that. So. You're obviously was for both you from the whole unit, like, improvement over course of last season. Yeah. And then the convo passion seems like the step back. Yeah. Did it feel like that to you and did it change any of the process in this going into? Yeah. No, um, I think the convo was a little different because Matt moved the center. So like, it was kind of a new piece to the puzzle, I guess you could say. Um, it was difficult because you're trying to get comfortable and you get comfortable with car center center. And then they change the map. Um, but I mean, the convo was kind of a learning curve for all of us with Matt being at center. Did it, did it, did it, did it, did it feel like it all like you guys.

You guys said, getting back all those progress you had made over course here. Did it, did it add to kind of the chip on the shoulder or what you guys had to prove still coming into the future? I think the second one you said the chip on shoulder, um, because I mean, the defense locked it down that game and we didn't. Pretty much anything. We went back and watched it and. Like this is, this isn't good enough as you're standard. So. Is that like a really after the game? Oh, yeah, immediately. I, yeah, like, after this practice, how to go immediately watch it, um, break it down, talk to the try, talk to Donnie, all those guys to see what they, what they're seeing. How it could improve on this and stuff like that. What was kind of a feeling of watching it that first time rewatching that game? Um, for me, I usually watch myself and then on whole entire oftentimes. For me, I didn't like it. Um, I thought it was disgusting for my performance and then for the offense, why I thought we just should have cleaned it up a little bit more than what it was. They didn't like a more. A little bit. Um, yeah, I guess you could say that.

So many free runners have more. Yeah, yeah, um, it was just like, because you're on your guy and it's like, what the hell's going on? Like what, what's, what's happening back there? Because you don't have the eyes in your back your head. Yeah, hey, uh, uh, Tiger was just here a minute ago. And I'm just a picture of Tiger. You know, there's, there's a big time offensive line. Right? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And he said basically an approach to this spring or whatever. It's nobody cares. Nobody cares. You know, what you're going through, what your challenges might be, et cetera. You know, it's time for, what have you seen this different about him? I mean, I think his approach is approach to coming on the field practicing and not just taking another rep. Just going and emphasizing that specific rep like, okay, I got to get to my spot and I got a punch. Yeah. That is what's improved so much about it. I like your hat too. I'm a big golfer. Yeah, I know. I work just for you. Did you go there? Yeah, I'm a, I do ball. I'm a volunteer. Oh, that's sick. Are you going out to Pinehurst?

Oh, yeah. That's sick. Yeah, number two. I'm a grandville guy like four holes. Just like Tiger. Yeah, I like going and watching the moral too. I'm a big golfer. I love golf. Hey, getting back to Tech, or the way you're doing. Yeah. What could he have raised being to this depth pool here for you guys? I think it could be huge. He steps up and plays and I think Tiger could be a big time player. He just got to get, like he said, taking that approach to the field and being a professional every single day will help him be the person who's going to be. Yeah, I got this request from somebody else to ask you. Where are your top five foods? Jerry, top five foods. Oh, God. Am I on a diet like in my in football? Or is it like I'm 40 years old and you don't give it to him? I think you wanted without getting any calories. Okay, so I'm going to go restaurants. I'm not going to go food. I'm going to go number five would probably be waterbigger.

Number four would be hardies. Three. Drop three were sitting in numbers two. I don't know. I like sitting down. Domino's is number three. Number two is McDonald's and number one's in and out. What about barbecue heaven and a couple of marbles and king of fairies? Oh, yeah. That one was good too. Yeah. I like that one. I don't know. I guess I'm not a big barbecue guy because I have it so much. We talked about, you know, thinking too much on the field and not just playing. How do you get better? I think just comes with more of watching the game breaking it down in the film room and then on the field when you're playing. You're just constantly going through it and then like, all right, just play. If this happens, I don't care. Just go and go hard. Is there something I guess you could do mentally please now? Just set yourself in that next game. Yeah, yeah. There's a lot of things that go through your head. It's not, but at the end of the time it's you versus him and I'm just like, all right, this guy's not going to get there.

Let's make sure I have to talk about run game differences. Jim here like. Yeah. What do you see? What do you like? Yeah. He's creative. He's very creative in everything. Overall, I've asked that to the offense. I can't get too much into detail about that. Yeah. But Coach Kelly brings a new perspective and he's a great person and a great human being. Really, really super good coach. All right, Josh. Thank you, buddy. Appreciate it. I'm going to turn around and you come in and just catch on the fly. It's time that takes a lot of time and attention. I'm just thankful for a great coach and staff and a great unit around me. Guys, you're back then starting off with you know, rock and those guys to Cade. I think there's been a very example of the way they're supposed to attack blocking and being entitled here at Ohio State. Not just thankful to be able to have that example. Hey, fellas, what are you waiting at? 2,35, 2,40, what were you waiting for? 2,45. What's it been like? You have to wait a little more. Yeah, well, it's been great.

He's been good. And somebody that's came in, humble and is ready to work. That's been the only words that I have for him. Not a minute, just many words, but he's here to get a peer to work and he's done just that. And I'm just, we got to have... He learned a lot. He learned a lot. He learned a lot. It's all in the park. Like, I know you guys worked on this. Sorry, you missed the bulls eye anyway, but also that's what he's doing. You guys learned a little bit. You guys learned a little bit. Yeah, I think essentially that's the culture of our room. We come off the ball violent. We're looking as sweet as hard as we can, but clean up the details out. So that's kind of our mindset going into it. And uh... You went pretty good here for blocking blocking. How hard is it to know that you used to be a receiver? You know, you're a fast player. You know, you're like, you know you're using a block. You're using a block. You're using a block. Like, how hard is it to kind of change the perception before you do it? You know, you guys don't pay attention to like outside noise, but also, a lot of us have used that. We're actually talking about the way you do it. Pretty good block, huh? Yeah, I'd say it starts off with like you kind of got to, it starts off with tuning out with the outside noise.

And what other people have to say about it. And it's really more of a mindset. I kind of look at it as if it's like a drop in a bucket. You know, if I got a big bucket, there's no one thing I'm going to do to make this bucket full. It's a daily thing where I put one drop in a day. And you look back over a year, two years, three years, and you look back and you're like, man, I've gotten a lot better. And so like I said, I'm just very thankful for the unit. The guys that I have around me push me very hard, and I'm just thankful. You mentioned that the development kind of is part of TEDx. What was the book challenging for you to be developing into the play? Yeah, I'd say, um, definitely the size component. You know, you got to be someone that's, you know, when you got to be big, you got to be strong. You got to be fast. There's a lot of jobs that you have to do. It's a very asking job. You need to buck the big, some of the biggest guys in the field, but also run routes. Some of the smallest guys in the field. And so I think just thankful just to be out here and do exactly that. What was it like to get that shot the other day for the pros counts? Just run routes, catch balls. Oh, yeah, show off. Yeah, no, there's a good opportunity.

I think some of the big, you know, region behind it, we just kind of given those guys that they're that we're at pro day. We have limited numbers. So just get out there and give those guys a breather, but maybe the opportunity to get to go out there in front of scouts. I think that's a pretty good deal. And you're taking only a quarterbacks to this point. Quarterback battle is going on. What's been your take on Will, for example, get to know him. And then of course, David, I think the mindset that we have a body around here is ironing, sharpening iron. So that's kind of like, it's not just, you know, one room. It's from top to bottom throughout this whole team. No matter what position you are, we're here to work. I think we're all here to make each other better. Whether it's in a quarterback room or tight in the room, we're running back room. Offends for his defense coach for his coach. It doesn't matter. We're all just, you know, iron and sharpen iron, especially this time of year in spring ball. We're not doing too much game planning for next week. And we're really just spending this time to get better and build a good foundation for ourselves. It's time to work on room forward. If you've seen Will, Will Howard fitting in more and more as the practices have gone on, you know, getting to know everybody and all that kind of thing. I mean, I've always been, it's been here for a while.

Oh, sorry. Yeah, I think, yeah, I think I think I think it's time, I think it's time to go as no matter where you are. You start to start to get used to what we have going on here. And so it's good to have. Thanks. Yeah. You're coming in. Thank you. What's it been like? Yeah, I've just met a lot of people. I've been working on it. Yeah. I'd say when it comes to that, I think it's all the glory to the Lord. And I decided to give my life completely to the Lord a little over a year ago. And that kind of really changed my outlook on the way that I approach football. It's no longer something that I idolize. It's just something that I do. And I think the time of my life where I stopped, you know, compartmentalizing who God was in my life. God was something that I do on Sundays or something that I do in a Bible study. It went from what I do to who I am. And so now I embody that as who I am. And so some of the fruits of the spirit is peace, patience, and kindness. And so those are the kind of things that I've started to embody on this journey.

I think it's easy to kind of compartmentalize football away from faith. But ultimately, it's all one. It's all one. So it's giving me a spirit of patience, peace, and joy with the guys around me. And so I'm just unthankful. I'm just unthankful to be here. And being quite honest, I know for a fact I wouldn't be where I'm at right now. And I know I'm outside looking in. I ask like, you know, where are you right now? But I wouldn't be where I'm at right now if it wasn't for my relationship with the Lord. It really came into my life and changed around from the better. G, what did you see from Ben and Christian last year? How did you know that suspension? How did you work with that? Yeah, I think he did a great job. A lot of perseverance. I think that's no matter who you are, we're kind of hearing news like that. We're going to be out for a year. That's hard. No matter where you are. I'm really proud of him because he came up and he came to show up every single day. And he got better. He got better. The easy thing to do in that kind of situation is throwing the towel. Be like, man, forget this. Or I'll get better next year.

But I saw the drive at him. One thing I see in every day, he showed up. He got better. And I'm proud of Ben and I'm proud of this unit. Why is it so easy? Why is it so easy? I don't know. I don't know how to answer that question because if you go from one unit to another unit, the moment you trade units, you're no longer in the unit you were initially in. So you're now a tight end. So I mean, to answer that question, I think the time that I went from in the receiver unit to the tight end unit is the moment I became a tight end. Kevin Wilson was my coach. And I was a receiver. It's just different. It's two different roles. I think I'd say to answer that question. The moment that I decided to come to play tight end is the moment I became a tight end. And so now over the years, I've gotten better at playing in the position.

But the moment that I transferred over, I've been a tight end. And I'm excited to be a tight end. Another position I'd rather play. The buck-ass. Thank you, Gene. You're welcome. Yeah. The leaders and how we want this offense to look like in some of the ideas that we may have as well. So it's been a really cool transition. You talk about the transitions. You've been a third offense in three years. Probably your fourth and sixth years. Yeah. How do you not kind of build up some barriers? Yeah. Man, I got to do this again. Right. I think, you know, human nature is always a factor in whatever you do in life. But I think I try to make a conscious choice of coming in with a new year mentality each and every year. And I think it's easy because we've had so many changes. And it's been great working with Marcus and Jaden and Jeff and Sam. All of everybody. It's been great working with all the quarterbacks. And I just have a mentality of not really being complacent.

I try to really focus on the things that I can come back better at this year. And I've been working my butt off to do that. So I think the easy thing, and when I was younger, you're like, dang, you just want that consistency. You know what I mean? You want that something you could depend on. But life isn't always like that. So I've been reinvigorated because of just the energy that DQ brings into our building each and every day. And the coaches as well, like, it's fun competing, you know what I mean? And sometimes I could get lost in the grind. But I think the reason why you make it here at this level is because you fall in love with the competition of it. And I think the competition breeds the success because that is really where you, the iron truly sharpens the iron. So you know, other guys are going to make plays, but you get excited to go in there and know that the next day we're going to go right back after the defense. So for myself, I'm just looking forward to continue to grow with the quarterbacks that we have.

I mean, year six now, which is extreme blessing. And one of the leaders in our room, and I just try to take the bull by the horns with that. And so that's really been my focus. And I'm excited for another year. To us, it's looked like you're being more vocal on the sidelines to help young guys. Exactly. Something you decided this offseason or? I think that's been a part of my maturation process as a leader. I've always seen myself as somebody that was a leader by example. But from coaches and other teammates I've had over the years, guys like to hear what I have to say for whatever reason sometimes. You know, and I think the biggest thing where I've tried to figure out where I fit in with my vocal leadership is, I never wanted to be like a dictator. You know what I mean? I never wanted to tell guys what to do or be a yellow or things like that. Like when I say something, I wanted to have power. I wanted to have meaning. And I hope, you know, the guys would feel the same way if they were to ask them that question. Because I want to see all these guys win, man. Like it's hard to make it in this league and stay in a career.

And so, anyway, I could help the receivers, the DBs. I'm talking to some of the linemen. Johnny, who's rehabbing his foot. You know what I mean? Like everybody has a role and everybody has a different story and path. And so if I could share what I've been through my testimony to help them or do things that kind of slow down the process, I'm going to try to do that because we need everybody from the rookies to the 10 year vets to make this thing work. So more so, I try to speak to what I know and really those honest conversations that I try to have with guys, what they know I'm coming from a good place. And I think I'm not the type of guy where I'm just going to talk at them. Like if they see something, like I could take a coaching point from Luke McCaffrey. I could take a coaching point from Deami from Jahan from Marcus from anybody. You know, like I think that's what makes you a great player when you can really be coachable from anybody and not take it from a personal standpoint.

Hi. How are you doing? Good. Going back to what you were saying about Cliff and offense, how is he as a teacher in teaching all this? Yeah, I mean, I think he does a really great job of making things simple, first and foremost. He doesn't overcoach. And I think that's the trust that he has in our group and his coaches, our position coaches to fill in the details. So we'll have an install meeting and it'll be a good amount of time. But then our position coaches will have time and we'll make it specific to that position. And so then we'll come in and have a walkthrough. And then after that, we'll have another walkthrough. And so I don't think there's been a time where I've come out here and I'm kind of worried about what I got. You know what I mean? And when you get into certain offices, there could be so many details where you could be overwhelmed. And I think then it forces kind of separates guys in a sense that like one guy may study more than another guy. But when you have these sessions that we have where we're having an installs in the morning, we're having two walkthroughs and then we're coming on the field and doing it. I think you notice a lot of guys are playing a lot faster and more confident because he's keeping it simple.

So he's very particular in what he's expecting, but it's not a lot. So there's not a pressure of to get it right. But at the same time, you know it's expected of you and you know you're going to have the tools given to you to be successful out there on the field. And this offseason, just the totality of change from front office players coaches, the turf field. What does that been like for you just to see what's going on? It's been fun. You know, I think from Mr. Harrison, the entire ownership group down to Adam Peters, down to DQ, down to Jada, who he drafted and bringing in Marcus and Jeff and all those guys. And down to leaders, we have on our team. I think it was extremely specific on the way they tried to build this thing going into this year. First, having the right people, bringing in leaders, bringing in guys who love to compete. The first thing that DQ said when he came here was, and his first meeting, like, if you love to compete, this is going to be the place for you. And I love it. You know what I mean? I love bags and going at it with the DBS every day.

Like the little mundane stuff can seem a little boring, but that's, I think that was the, where you make the gains during the offseason, where you're really focused on. I'm going to give all I got for this day, and I'm going to get better, and then I'm going to learn from the film and come back tomorrow and ready to do it again. And he also understands like the benefits of having breaks. Like he's given us breaks. We've had weeks off here and there that we can compose ourselves, but then come back and give it all we got. You know what I mean? And when you got a coach that understands the physicality of an entire season, where you guys do need breaks by the same time we're going to get after it. It makes it fun as a leader because you can take that to your room and be like, yo, we got these, we got this week. You know what I mean? That's extremely important. But you know, we have this little break coming up, where you're going to get your, your mind and your body and your soul right. So coming into this season, I'm really optimistic of what we can be this year. And I think it started with the foundation that the ownership group and the entire staff has built. And now it's on myself as a leader to continue to hone that in into the locker room. But I think it's great because we have so many great leaders from all across the league who have won and we got Bobby Wagner in there.

You know what I mean? I asked a hall of fame or so like, you know, being able to have kind of guys like that that you can lean on that can sometimes take over that leadership role where it doesn't fall on one person. I think it's extremely refreshing and knowing that everybody's on the same page and the message is the same allows you to go out there with confidence and always expect to know you. Terry, you seem to spend many of your off seasons learning about things beyond football, hobbies, what have you doing in this off season so far? That's a hobby to increase your knowledge of this world around you. Let's see the question. Play a lot of golf. That day just keeps my competitive juices flowing. Planting the wedding. That's going well. And I just been grinding like honestly, you know, I mean, I've been hungry this all season. I started working out, you know, pretty early and you start to see guys like coming back and it's just fun to like to be here and compete and feel like everybody's on the same page, you know what I mean?

And so for me, I'm a grind every off season, but just this one just feels like it's the start of something, you know, new and special and the foundation of his extremely important to be a part of that to have a hand in that. You know, it's an honor, you know, and I put a lot of expectation on myself to come out here and be the guy that I know I'm capable of and also like taking the next step and being somebody that our quarterbacks that can trust and believe in. So this off season was pretty simple for me. It was just really about, you know, working and grinding and getting better. And I think he talked about Jayden before. And so far, I know we haven't seen everything. But in terms of his arm strength, the throws, he's making anything surprising so far about the types of his ability in that regard. Definitely. I think after the second or third crosser that he threw, I started telling receivers like, hey, you gotta get your head around. You know what I mean? Because again, each quarterback throws the ball, definitely sees the field differently.

So sometimes on crossers, a lot of quarterbacks may like to see you cross the ball and get into that open zone over there. If it's a man flattened off, they like to see you get open where him. He has a really good anticipation over the middle of the field where he can make those throws and give you a chance to catch and run. And he's really accountable too. Like we had a play today where he felt like he missed me and, you know, it's not a big deal at all. I mean, him and I could talk to those things and there's been a play that I've talked to him about. I could do a better job. But again, like that open that open form of communication from a rookie, I think is very rare. And I think it speaks to the confidence he knows who he is, but he's also not afraid to say when he's wrong. And he knows he needs room to improve. But his touch on the deep balls is amazing. I love getting extra reps after practice with him. We're just catching the top end of a deep ball. As big for me, I get to track the ball over my shoulder and as big for him to be able to get used to dropping the ball in the bucket. But he just naturally has an ability to throw the ball. He sees the windows really well. And now he's just continue to get adjusted to the speed in the past rush.

He's these reps that he's getting are unbelievable during 11 on 11 because he's getting to feel pain and Allen and DA and Cleveland Farrow. Like we got some dogs up there who are going to come after him. You know what I mean? And we got some great guys up front who are going to protect them. And so these reps I feel like are even better than just 7 on 7. 7 on 7 I think he could do in the sleep to be fair. Like he throws the ball really well. But when you get this 11 on 11, 2 minute drill, you're putting them in game like situations. And I'm looking at him in his eye. I'm like, we play a real ball now. Like we we we playing. You know what I mean? And you just see no no anxiousness in his game and his demeanor, which is extremely exciting. And then you know, he's extremely light hearted and he's always smiling. So he's joking with lime and D line. He's just cool with everybody. And like I said, like for a rookie quarterback to come in like that, where guys are gravitating to him. And he's not afraid to be who he is. That's dope. I think he has a bright future for himself. The tough losses, the tough seasons can weigh on a player. You're entering the prime of your career. J.A. kind of mentioned it last year. All he cares about is winning. He wants to win now.

Is there a sense of urgency? You obviously always want to win. Knowing that, you know, you're getting to the prime of your career. Like you want to win now. Yeah, I think that's a fair question. I think, you know, you start to evaluate when you I'm in year six and you know how fast it goes. And I try not to put the cart before the horse were looking too far ahead by the same time. You do want to win. You want to be a part of a winning culture and have a chance to win the Super Bowl and the playoffs and all those things. Like that's why we we do this personally. And I'm just excited with being a part of an organization in an environment where now like everybody's on the same page in the in the message is uniform and it speaks from the top down. And it reflects the guys that they're bringing in, you know, all the guys that they brought in are guys who are hungry who are competitors who not only fighting for spots but are going to help us win games. And when you're around environment like that, like that, that makes you excited, makes you hopeful. And, you know, you don't know how that's going to turn out until we start playing games. But the foundation is extremely important. And I think this off season, we've really done a great job of building that they have.

And then when a coach, Quinn guy here building with this team. So I feel like we're going to be going into this off season really knowing what we all got to do individually become ready for camp. But the message is clear to come back to camp ready to compete and and be ready to win. Thanks, Larry. Appreciate you guys. Yeah, I think you talk about early in the week and trying to balance out with not getting too high on your motion. How does that motivation for you show up on an idea that you basically are? It's more preparation, more film. How does that look like for you? Yeah, it's just really an edge and everything you do, I feel like. And, you know, carrying that kind of pissed off mentality. I mean, obviously not letting it affect you in a negative way. But, you know, making it, you know, reminds you, hey, like, I'm going to go the extra inch here. I'm going to, you know, see if I can find something extra on film late at night.

I'm going to, you know, go over this sheet again, call a place one more time. Like, all these little things that, you know, I just, you know, we just can't let that what happened last night happened again. We were only in this week and I was talking about how you played back here at Football. He tended to be playing in the Rose Bowl. He grew up in big ten country. What does it mean to take part in this game? What does it mean to you, kind of growing up? It's a tell, man. It's crazy that, you know, that God has blessed me and put me in this position to be here and be the quarterback in the Rose Bowl. You know, a game that I grew up watching every single year. Some unbelievable games that I've watched in the Rose Bowl, some classics. And just to be a part of it is a blessing. And I think we're all, we're all humbled to be here. And we're all understanding of how unbelievable this opportunity is and we're not taking it lightly because, you know, again, it's a business trip. And, you know, the only thing that we're looking at is, you know, we win this game, we go on a playing couple. So, you know, it's really exciting. It's, you know, crazy that we're here and that we're a part of this, but, you know, can't let it be too big.

You know, gotta go out there and play football. I think so. I think, you know, you go back and watch the film and, you know, I just didn't, you know, and I'm, I'm hyper critical of myself. I think we all are here, you know, but I just look at it and I'm like, man, I don't think anyone this year beat us. You know, I think we beat ourselves every time. And, you know, you watch and, you know, we had to turn over, you know, in our own 20-hour ride. And they got the kick, you know, that's two possessions, it's called first half. And then, obviously, the way the game ended, like, and we're still one point away. And that's what, what hurts, and it was, you know, a hostile environment in their place. You know, I'm just, I'm just thankful that, you know, I said this, this is the other day, but I'm just thankful that we get through the other day. Do you feel like, you know, if we look at back the two weeks ago, you know, you've been to Tennessee, you've been to like, there's a confidence about this, but it may be one thing, you know, the two of us show that, you know, you put it all together.

Yeah, look at your sense of the team from that aspect. Does it feel a little bit different? Yeah, I think, you know, a game like that, you know, in Sills Conference, because it shows us we're capable of. But you can't beat complacency. And it can never be comfortability. It has to be confidence and drive. And that's what it has to urge us to be like, man, like, we can do this. When we play it our best, you know, if it was anyone in the country that can hang with us, but we have to be on our game. We have to make sure that, you know, we can't let anything go. A lot of people take this. I'm happy. I'm a motion of the offense. I just, you know, at the end of the day, I just want to keep the ball moving down the field, you know, getting in a rhythm. I think it's going to be big for us. And I think we did a really good job at that in Tennessee game. We're weathering the storm a little bit early in the recall. Early calls that we got the bell to sound in that game. And kept us going. But regardless, we kept the drive building.

And for me, keeping us on schedule, taking care of the football, and making sure that we can burn on third down in our situation. We did, you know, we do all that, all that stuff. Obviously for me, you know, I want to beat these guys and drive the machine because we got, when we're on our stuff, I mean, we're on our stop. So we just got to make sure that we finish our preparation, right? These last few days and go out there and put our best work. Thank you. Thank you, everyone. You come on this way. I'm talking about this, you know, just recently. Talking about how what I want to do for the world is I want to bring that home energy, the Hebrew. Right? So last year, of course, I'm sure you've been doing for years, but the year when I spent my own, he brought a lot of energy, excitement, happiness in the room, which is his natural energy, to where I always had to focus on me. You know, I didn't have to make sure other, other guys are, you know, feels the type of way when they came in here because hump brought that.

You know, the hump's not here, but I saw when you did for a room, I want to be that guy to make sure I was an amptical practice. Everybody's, we're taking a field team on period, you know, it's a low day or something, you know, it's a different thing, but like, I want to make it feel like home comes. You're like, you have to pass the trip. I want to bring that because that's what me and hump did to each other. We would have each other, I'd do something to do. It's probably going to be a walk, we're a flip. So I want to do that. I want to bring that energy, I want to make bring more guys. You also do that. Yeah. I want to do that from day one, you know. I kind of got it. I want to do that from day one, talking to them, and obviously it's the time I spend, obviously it's the four of them together started. Just being myself just thinking about what the room needs, you know, because I don't know. I knew where I was one of the leaders, you know, my wife and I was, is that we need a guy like that, that is going to make sure the O-R is picked up.

We're ready to go every day, those healthy, kind of little things are having a practice of people and saying anything and how I'd maybe lead maybe different than somebody else maybe, you know, like a practice, at least like a legal positivity, you know what I mean. So, but the energy I would be on, just like, the beyond, so I was kind of, how I would be going on, really my whole life, all the year I felt, team captain, like specifically, and I felt I wasn't captain in high school, wasn't captain in college, but I want to make a joke, I was in high school, so I feel like I'm not going to be captain like he's been I felt. Yeah. But that would be awesome, you know, but, you know, that happens, that'd be great, but not either way, I want to assume a role as a captain from the perspective of guys, until the individual words, and again back in that way. Yeah, I mean, I can't say that, I mean, I guess the biggest thing is that I felt like I felt like how you used to in the past,

but it didn't take just the first LTAs, it took training and left and right, once this season ended, because I know what was going to be the champion, so I took a lot of, yeah, grips, just to give back to feeling like myself, for what they want LTAs, and then that whole first week, but now like today specifically, just changing some small things with my feet, that is it, talking about the long coach, passing things I can do with my feet, to get to that, to sell my traditional angle that I love to sit on, I thought I felt great already, but I felt even better, starting to work more excited tomorrow now, getting my feet back, and how I liked it, the right side, and on the left side, so alongside me. I mean, obviously I feel like, in the league, whether you're left or right, you're still going against Premier guys, so obviously, you have high expectations for your left and right tackle, but there's definitely like the level of energy,

and the expectations definitely take the human strength, because now, tonight, the blind side, that's the, that's the tackle world, you know, so yeah, I would say in terms of communication as far as just, even outside of the facility, just stuff like that, like really creating that, but in tackle court, that body even more often feel like, I think it's been something that's even good, cool, maybe, I got the text one day, and I said, hey, I keep going up, I was like, yeah, I've been training both, I've been training both, you know, I asked after the season there, like honestly, you know, we'll talk a few sub-latent seasons, and I just got the text one, I'm telling what happens with the free agency, then, so I was like, you know what, I had an old season right tackle, so if I get the word, I'm going, I'm staying right tackle, and I did what I did before, I'm building on that, but I was like, I might as well just train the left tackle now, as if we're going to be left tackle, and I'd rather do that than train on right tackle with the co-a,

and do the left tackle, how do I switch my feet? You know what I mean? So, I'm like, let me just prepare an advance, I'll say, yeah, let's go, you know? I think occasionally, on third down, there would be a lot of twists, I was just like, it's a fun, I'm not mad, it goes on. And I think that was my mindset for like the first half of the season, like I didn't have to go once again with some pros, like oh my gosh, they did that, I kind of figured, okay, like this is the type of rush, and like, yeah, this is how this guy usually rushes, like get the vibe, this type of the end is like the rush, you know, tackles that, you know, first of your guys, you got the criminal patch on, you know, what it was going to be, or you know, will be every stunt, and honestly just knowing that's kind of an advantage to, so you're not, you're not, oh, the problem is with my psych, it was never air-doll, but it comes up when I was like, three plays in a row, and in two minutes, I knew that, it was the one that, so like, you know what I mean? So I'm watching more everybody else, and you rarely, you know, it goes out there, occasionally, on third down, I was like, yeah, I was like, he's going to pick me, you know what I mean?

So, that, that, that, it's kind of, it's also kind of an advantage in a way, but it's also exciting, like, okay, I'm going to give the, hardest look, you know, those are real, real reps, you know, the things, and really out on our way to kind of process, that I was like, hey, when I tell me, let me know about, I'm just going to train it, I was training all of that, so TAs, I guess if I didn't hear anything about TAs, I came in like, so, you know what I mean? Because just like, I'm cool with training both, I would have been cool with training both continually, but I feel like anybody, any position will feel like, okay, like, you want as soon as possible, to give your feet kind of subtle, and your hips subtle, and your hands subtle, and certain kind of that. Would it have been harder to work both, during how to use? No, no, no. But, they're definitely, but in terms of the development, they're definitely a lot faster, they're staying on one side,

but I think having that, the weeks that we had to transition with seasons over, I'm going to like respond, you know. Look, I'm trying to get up, put them in front, and I mean, we, things at a time right now, but when it comes back, I'm going to show them the one house, so I just got a house to not too far from, so I told them, I got that house, I could yell outside, like, DJ, you know what I mean? So, yeah. My mom says, you know, just go out there, my dad just dominated the person I was confronting me, you know, just do what I've been doing for the last two to three weeks, I should say, but, you know, they play men on men, so I'm just ready for the challenge. Yeah. I mean, feels good, just say somebody going out there and playing men on men, I guess Ohio State receivers, it's something crazy, but, you know, we just ready for the challenge,

they said they're not chasing a game play, but we got to go out there and show them the reason why not to play men on men. Yeah. I mean, I don't really, if I be on a curve, I'd be on a curve with me, and it's not really a big deal to me, it may definitely be a blessing for sure, just to be on a curve of a game, but, you know, it's not really a dream of mine, it's a dream of mine, but I don't really think too much of it. I mean, no, not yet. Probably hit me after this season, just, no, playing in the Carlos football playoffs as a freshman, playing in the Rose Bowl as a freshman, playing in a Cardin Bowl, not in the National Championship, I mean, it's a blessing for sure, but it hasn't hit me yet.

My favorite catch, I would say, we play Michigan State on the one I call over to defenders, definitely probably my favorite for sure, or you go the one from Iowa, I should say, and as a parliament too. I mean, like you said, it's pretty frustrating me having a game that I had in the Rose Bowl, and they're coming to the Cardin Bowl, and they're just doing different things, chasing their scheme up against me. But, I mean, like you said, whatever I could do to make, I mean, help the team win. It's not really a big deal for me, and long as we win, that's all I really care about, and it got us to the National Championship.

It means a lot, we put a lot of work in this season. We have highs, we have lows, we have people cutting us out, but we hear it now, we just ready to put on a show Monday. Oh yeah. First of when there's a National Championship, because there were means a lot. I mean, you see everything that he bent through this year, people saying he should be fired, and there's that in a third, I mean, you see everything that he bent through this year, I mean, I seen everything that he bent through this year, I see everything, people saying my hand on Twitter. I wasn't here, he first got the head coach on job, but I know this year for sure, we definitely got to win this for him. Oh, I mean, it's a lot of people in the league, I should say, I can't really say who, but I mean, you had guys like Odele, you had guys like Odele, you had Stefan Dicks.

It means a lot of Michael Thomas, Chris Carter, just a lot of, you know, guys that played in NFL and stuff like that, but yeah, really them guys for sure. What did they say? You know, just keep going, you got it, you've messed up for sure, really, I really appreciate that. So they said, like physical defense, like people say, like they like to play man, they're not changing their scheme. So we're just ready for the challenge, like you said, best defense, we probably go see all year, and we just gotta be ready to go out there and run there and just put on the show. I'm excited for Will, him first coming here in Ohio State, January, our first workout we had together, just everything that we did through the season.

I'm just happy for him to be in this position right now, but we got to finish the job when that's the winning out of the Oman. I mean, it's pretty funny, um, them saying that because I'm just only a freshman, but, um, it's a blessing for sure people to even say that, but I got two, three more years left for Carlos, and I'm just focused on cars right now. I'm not really worried about the NFL right now. It's very special for me, just being a freshman, I'm playing a national stage, like a peer for national titles, something that I dreamed of as a very young kid. I'm just happy to be here, and I just can't wait to put on some Monday for you guys. I mean, all of us, we'll just sit on the bench and we just see him hit the quarterback the ball come out and we all just got up and just started jumping up and down.

We all decided, um, happy for Jack and that moment. We just knew that that moment like, yeah, this we go on to the daddy for sure. Yeah. So like, the important is what they have to me, just high school and national champions, how does that feel to have that moment that they're different than the kids detection of things? Uh, me, it shows a lot, um, me, you know, going from high school or when a three-state championship, uh, Shamanama Donna, then, you know, coming to Ohio State, uh, just appeared for national title right now. Let me just show that I've picked two great schools, um, but I'm happy to be here and just came with the professional show Monday. The coolest person, um, I mean, you got a lot. I can't really say just a specific person. You got a lot of great guys. You got an elite like, um, Odell, you had guys like Stefan Dex, um, a lot of other places were just getting cut off my mom, but really, really into guys who show Odell a step on this.

Yeah. Yeah. Um, I mean, like they say, they play man. So I mean, I'm just ready for the challenge and just get ready to go out there Monday and just no putting us up. Thank you. Uh, the vice-geno had gave me, um, I said just keep golfers. Um, you, uh, he, I know the reason why I'm here. And me, like he said, just keep golfers and just no keep the maintenance and the main thing and the best corner I faced this year. Um, I mean, I've faced a lot of great corners. Uh, I can't really say, but yeah, I've faced a great lot of great corners. Can't really put a name on it.

I dream a case in this, uh, turns the cake goes. Oh, good. Are you? Yeah. Uh, I say both respect and frustration as well. Um, but I mean, I thought they come out there and trippled to me and they say stick it to whatever door in our year and that's playing man covers, uh, which is ready for the challenge. Uh, pretty good group. Uh, Christian, great 29th, a great corner, uh, 15, uh, the not more. Uh, two great guys are right there. Um, very physical, but you know, we all have to receive us. So we ready for the challenge.

Uh, I say just no understanding the defense, understanding the defense, understanding the game plan, understanding what coach Kelly is trying to get done. Um, I mean, just coming in, I felt I progress from our first game gets accrued to now. I feel like I better each and every week. Um, me being slowed down a lot for me. Um, but yeah, really just no understanding devices and no understanding what they're trying to do to me for sure. Um, I'm two guys. Great part of the best we go see all year for sure. Um, two, two physical guys. Um, but you know, we're ready. We're ready for the challenge that they're coming with. And that's the play man. Oh man. And you know, we ready to go on Monday. Yeah. Um, I mean, environment is pretty crazy. Uh, seeing all these cameras. Uh, something I never thought I'd see them alive, but uh, it's a blessing for sure. This is the main.

Right now. Um, and we just had a prayer, prayer, uh, lead meeting. And you know, we all, they all just, we all discussed the issues because they discussed issues. And you know, we just want the word, uh, me not to know how we, we had off before Tennessee game. And we just came out there on Tennessee game and we played with a chip on a chip on our shoulder. Um, all throughout the playoffs. And we go continue to play with that chip on our shoulder in a championship on Monday. Uh, do you know how to very, uh, in powerful, uh, get a very impact on my career, I should say, uh, you know, just going to his games as a, uh, very young kid, seven, eight years old, um, him playing West, we're playing for West Virginia. They played Clemson Orange Bull down in Miami. Um, he just going to their scene, his games. It was like, yeah, I definitely want to play on the stage. And I can't wait till I get to know that moment for sure.

Uh, because they really just in his own, his own love space. Uh, he's just walking around trying to get his mind right trying to get his mind ready for the game. Uh, but you know, he, uh, he just gave everybody hype in the locker room and you know, just trying to get us ready to go to win the game. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. For sure. I mean, uh, you go play mangas Ohio State receivers. I mean, just be ready. Uh, because, you know, we definitely go come out there and know, uh, give our best. I mean, they said not to change what they do. So we're ready for the challenge. Just kind of looks for you. Uh, not a year later, uh, definitely sometime in my career college, but not my first college, I should say, uh, I mean, just to be able to be in this position right now, you know, blessing, just to get here from Miami to be here.

And I won't take up for granted. I'm ready to go out there Monday and give them a call. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, I mean, I was watching that game against was a Georgia. I blew it. Yeah. I was in a game. Uh, I was pretty sick myself because I was actually committed at that time. Um, so I mean, yeah, they left it back. I'm not just a bad teacher named off, but I mean, we ready to go out there Monday to redeem myself and just go put a show Monday. Uh, I mean, I just laughed. Um, but you know, that's what they do. They're not gonna change what they do just because we're high on state. So we've got to go out there and put it on.

Why not to play a man on man against us? So we just got to go out there and show them Monday. He said again. I'm sorry. My journey here at Ohio State, we're pairing a lot from that's your shape of shit. Me just going through everything that I've been through. Uh, not first guy here, all of uh, Matt jurles, all the hard work guys that we had, all the hard practices. Um, just preparing all of us for this moment. And I'm just ready to go out there and give it up my all on Monday. Okay. Okay. Yeah. We just squeezed this. 200 me is big and strong.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What's the wedding? Yeah, that's great. Yeah. It's pretty good. No problem. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, when I part of the most is the one against Michigan State when I caught over two defenders on the airsoft line, party Laughin or the one after that, I should say, or you go the one against Iowa, party them through, probably my best ones for sure.

Yeah. Oh, I mean, just we'll put in the ball in my area and I just know how to make a play for them. Um, even though somebody was grabbing my face, I just know I still have to make a play because the ball touched my hand. So, I mean, just when the ball and the other thing, I have to make the play no matter how the ball comes at me. After a big game, um, I mean, we really, they really feed us Chick-fil-A or piece out of the game. So it's really either Chick-fil-A or piece. So, yeah, probably Chick-fil-A for sure.

Yeah. It went, it went pretty good. Everybody just, uh, uh, speaking with their thing is, uh, going right and what they think is wrong. Um, which is a lot of the older guys, what's in their opinions on what we need to do to, uh, come together as a team. Um, but, you know, that me and DeFi, uh, helped us in a, in a big way, because it helped us on the field as well, because we played our great football right now and we just got to tune out on Monday. What, what, what was the standard there back then? Yeah, it definitely got emotional. Uh, can't really say what really was said because that's not prayer, prayers only and coaches only, but it would definitely some stuff said that, um, people took, uh, people took and, uh, what, and that's the reason we plan the way we plan right now. Yeah. Uh, yeah, make help me a lot this year. Um, him being our older guy in the room, um, me help me and cartenel as well and Brennan is in all the guys in our city room as well.

Me just a great guy as well. Very smart. Uh, me and make this been a big part of the reason that I'm having to see that I'm having a well, because he's been a big, you know, older guy been there, been a lot of great guys in that room. Like Chris Alive, Gary Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr. Jackson, Nick Mjubles. So he's seen all the grace I've been through there and me teaching us the right thing and the right way and the buck out way for sure. I love it. That means they don't know what's coming out of the next. We got 12 personnel. We got 11 personnel. You can throw two of us in, throw one of the same. You gotta stop it all. What have you made of the quarterback? Three of them were here. Not too much. I feel like they all come in here working. I feel like everybody's making their throws, making their passes, everybody making their corrections. When did you take away last season? After the last statement? What did you do? What did you take away from last season? After the war? When the next game, that was it. When the next game, go out there on Saturday, beat the man in front of you, when he came out with a national championship and won the defense.

The strict laws about improving as a individual when you work in this game. I'm hoping I'll ever get down trying to get my game as well as playing spirit. I'm trying to come up to fit it on. We hear about either the team or not just the spirit as a group but it's a little team. The circuit step up who has started to step up and realize their place. I feel like we've had leaders from last year that came back. I feel like we got new guys that stepped up into their roles and their roles and around the team. That becoming leaders. Being a leader, you always have to be vocal. You can have side examples on the field. Or it can be vocal, do both. I was happy for Gia. I saw her grind and I saw her match. She was grinding and getting an extra work. Ball is ball. We come out here and play ball. He's out here doing a pro day yesterday. I just see him ready to make some real money. Do you feel like you're a different player now going into this year and maybe you were last year?

I feel like every year I've just improved on my overall game. Blocking and catching, consistent wise. People used that word. But I feel like I'm just overall better. I came in here ready to go. How much does it push you when you're in a room with guys like Max and Will and Bennett that you know you've got to be on your game if you're going to get a feel? I feel like Arya is starting to hire every day. You come in and work and they go push me every day to work. It's just like I'm going to do that. I've probably been asked this before. It's now crowd-a-route. You got master's order. What's your pressure going on with Max? I love Maul. I love Max Claire. Max LeBlanc. Both of them. I love him. What's your flash in the time you're here? Is this the year where it all comes together? I feel like Arya was my year, but hey, you want to see this year? I'm ready to come out here and put on a show for the Bug-Out Nation. I feel like everybody on the field is ready to go put on a show. We're trying to go back and back. You got a play quite a bit though last year, Tulane. What did you pick up from all of that, especially in a championship run? You know, and they were counting on you.

Honestly, just be ready at any time. You can be throwing in at any time. Just like I was. I probably had some rest while I was just throwing in. You got to get it done. If you don't get it done, they're going to find somebody who has to do it. I think we asked you this year to come with you. You've done it. You've done it. We're definitely seeing you rest as a tight end. All of that needs. Honestly, over the spring and some of this, I feel like I've told them I've body a lot and I got stronger in the way we were. I've also got a little bit faster so I can get in and out of the breaks a little bit better. And just the mine part of the game. The middle part of the game. If you've got even better in the end, how would you describe that? I'll say it again. The mine part of the game. I feel like it's a lot more fair. I say the tight ends become here. Five o'clock every other day. We'll walk through more film. Which is more students in the game now. We're in like that. Thanks.

Thanks. I feel like it was just an exciting play. I was the last read on it. I don't go out. I came down with the cast. I was down. You know, it wasn't wrong. You're but I still had a great rookie year. Six yards of carry. You know, things like that. I think it was like nine touchdowns, ten including the playoffs. And so there's always been like, all right. God bless me show my talent, shine a little bit. Like even when I had the knee. So I had the knee, right? A lot of people don't know. Like I didn't get hurt again whenever I got, you know, you got cleaned up. I went down in 21, right? Had the injuries in the knee injury. And then came back later the next year. And I played the first few games and I just feel there was a lot of scar tissue in there. So I had to get it cleaned up. I didn't get hurt again. I could have played the whole year, but I got it cleaned up so I can feel like me.

And so after I got that cleaned up, the first two games back from the injury, I had over 120 yards rushing. And then went on, had great, great ending of the year. You know, 100 total yards in the playoff game. We lost, which I hate the most. Stas don't matter. Me. I want to win. But then come back the next year, hurt again. Like 20 kill. So two really unfortunate injuries, but that's just a guy's plan. You know, and I think that the storm is now over, you know, and I do think that I'll be able to shine my light to the whole world. And certainly that you have that label of guy who can't stand with me. I could care less because I do, I do, I know this out there. Because as it should be, it should be. I got hurt two major injuries back, not back to back years, but you know. So I haven't been on the field as much as I should. That's true. That is true. But it's not like I'm having these little, little, dinky injuries and sitting out.

It's something I can't control literally. So that's why I'm not bothered by it. Like, yeah, I am injury poem. You can say that, you know, but I do think that the chargers are getting a guy that's going to be healthy from now on. You know, God will it and it's going to be great. And I do think that it's going to be going to be a great however many years here. When you've been on the field, you've been highly productive. Yeah. 5.8 years of very average for your career. Like knowing that when you're out there, you're very productive. How much confidence does that give you that really all you need is an opportunity? All the confidence in the world, you know, the way I work. I want to say just from the numbers, but just the way I work, my work ethic, you know, and my relationship with Jesus is like, I have the most confidence when I step out there. Because I do know like if he grants me the health is over with is I don't think I'll be, you know, I think it'll be a great year or whatever couple of years however many years he grants me great help.

You know, and I think just the work ethic, my prayer and all that stuff, that's what help me have that confidence with the numbers will be there and they might be higher after this year. You know, it's in and it's crazy to think about it because I had six point yards or six yards per carry, you know, so we'll see. You live in Florida running behind this line that they put together? Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, I play with Bradley. I play with him, you know, I know Slater, I know all the guys, you know, and I'm excited. I think it's like I said earlier, it's a talented group. You know, we just got put together and win some games because that's what I came before. I wouldn't I wouldn't say a part of the recruitment, but like whenever I decided I was going to sign it was great to have him in the room. Yeah, we're great. We're we have a great relationship. That's like my brother. I think it accomplished it complimented each other very well. You know, he can do a lot of stuff too. You know, a lot of people think he's just power power power, but I think he has some other parts we gain too,

which it'll be great because I feel like I could do everything and when we wanted to get tired, we can roll it in and keep rolling when some games. When you the two you going. How do you think it's going to look the work will be that partnership back there? I know. That's a hard question. How do I think I think it'll look beautiful? You know, a lot of people call this a passive league, but I think you got to run the ball to win the Super Bowl. You know, if you look at the team to win the Super Bowl, they can run the ball. They can control the clock. And so if we're both good, it'll look great. Beautiful. I would describe it as you know, a great offense. I think he gives a quarter he's going to give the quarterback a lot of options. He's going to give the running back a lot of options. He's going to give the receiver a lot of options. You know, and I think it'll be I think it's going to be great. He's often going to be amazing. One thing we talked about is like why I think it will build something good Russian offenses throughout the career, which everybody can.

And you said that one part of it is just you got to call the police. You got to call the police. As a running back, you know, how much confidence how much you say it is to give you a play call or a stick with it and allow you any offense on it gives you a rhythm. It gives me a lot of excitement. You know, it's going to be like I say it's fun to play his offense. You know, and I think he does have some good things in the past game too. But like you said, he sticks with the run and that's that's the identity. You want to offensive has an identity, right? You don't want to be looking everywhere else to find your identity. You want to have it. And so I think his offense has that and the guy he builds and puts in there it compliments that I did see. So I think it's going to be great. You mentioned you're 100% now. So you mean full go for training? That's the expectation. Look, I ain't going to answer any of the four if it's up to me. Yes. Look, because I had this problem like three two years, three years ago, I'm thinking I'm full go. I think I'm ready to go and then next year you know I'm on PUP.

Hey, look, some stuff above my prey, so but I don't know. Hopefully I can start. I think I'm ready to start. You know, the beginning training camp, but that's not up to me as I've learned. How do you how your people I wouldn't say that I think I've been I've been in some great organizations and I think this this organization is a great organization and the training staff is great. And so they just want what's best for me, you know, and they're they're taking care of me, which that's what you want in the organization. And so that's where that comes from, which I appreciate it. Like I really appreciate it. You know, because I'm a type of guy like I work really hard. So maybe sometime I'm blind to, you know, the danger of something. So I appreciate it, but like I said, it's up to me. Yeah, I'm out there, but never know. Any frustration for you during the getting into the agency, you know, dealing with rehab and not, you know, having a full season of hate for production to go out there.

Is there any part of that where you're like, you know, have it with the market with a different situation. Yeah, I like it. I like how would I say this? I like it the hard way, but not you know, I like it the hard way. I like it. I like trial and tribulations. So, I mean, the dice that I was given the role was I was coming off a third Achilles. And that was that was the Lord's plan. So it was beauty in that. Like I was comfortable. I was caught like there was multiple teams, you know. I wasn't, it wasn't like I didn't have any other team, but I was comfortable and sitting back and just enjoying the process, letting myself get fully healed. So whenever that team whoever I would sign with who now is the Chargers is going to get the best me, you know, and I think people all around the league know that like, okay, this guy, okay.

It's a high risk, high reward type thing, right? Not even a high risk, low risk because you, it's a business, right? So I got hurt last year. So not as much money and he's be throwing it. But I think everyone around the league knows that whenever I am on the field, the numbers don't lie. And so they know that and a lot of teams were like, are here. You can, we give you this, but we want you to be healthy. So when I'm healthy, it's going to be great. This is the chance that I've been giving here. I'm so grateful. And I know that's going to be, they won't be, they won't regret it. Are you the type of person that likes to do people wrong? Like you've done a couple things like the high risk, high reward, injury from, you know, like, are you the type of person that really tries to do people wrong? No, I hear it. I see it. It's pretty cool. Like you'll never see me unless I'm just like in a bad mood. You never see me like, like, if I have a great game or a great year, like I have this wonderful year, I ain't going to go back and, you know, like, yeah, what happened? No, because I don't care. Like, you're eventually see, like, I'm, like, I'm a guy that's really good. So I ain't worry about that. But I'm proving myself right that I am one of the best in the league.

Right. So forget all the naysayers and people will talk about being injury prone. Because whenever I have this great year, it's going to be forgotten, you know, too. Why, why give that energy? Talking just into the all our, you know, we just, you know, he's a great guy. I mean, he was in my class. I remember seeing him on, we were at an award show. Because I was a dog walker or a finalist. And I'm like, I've seen him play, but I didn't know he was that tall. Like, I didn't know he was like six. I won a first arm. This was years ago in college. I'm like, and this is pretty tall. Like, he's cool, though. Like, I, like, I never really got to, I don't know. I thought it would be kind of, you know, you know, nerdy. But he's cool to really. But no, we'll face to him. It's just because like last three years, it's been disappointed at the end of the season. So I feel like we put more work in. I feel like that's what we're missing. We're just putting more work in.

And you just got to do that throughout the summer, the spring fall. And then you've got to show it on the field. I just asked you, Jack, when you take a, you still like in a mold, they're practicing. You look at it. Who are all on the defense? And you look at the person L change. We're failing to come in with sunny, moving up in the post-war line of spring. Like all the guys in the convention coming back. What's your like view of what's out on defense and how it may be allowed to do some things. I was kind of just like, I don't want to like, high part has too much, but I kind of look like a legendary defense kind of. I feel like we got playmakers everywhere. And then moving sunny down, I think that's a great move for him. You know, he's a big athletic dude. He can play in a box. He can play like safety thing that's just showing how like versatile he is. And Caleb, you know, he's using Caleb, how he plays. He's an animal. He's only a sophomore, I think. And I feel like the guys we brought back, you know, we all can, we're all dominant. So I feel like as a collective unit, we're going to be like unstoppable.

So confident is a problem. No. Well, there's a part of that too. And as I mentioned, they're about pacing yourself. So if you, if there's that much self-believe, then there's also that part of going to build depth. You know, in case you have interest, case you have interest. So how do you look at spring in terms of getting guys that are next in line as prepared to keep that standard high? I think you just got to set a great example for the young guys and just showing them how to how to practice how to like watch film, how to take care of their body. Because those are the things you're going to need to like go on this deep run. I think it's like 17 games or something that we're not. We add in games. So the young guys are going to have to play. We can't just play fit the games. The snap. That's not going to happen. So. He's going to keep working kind of keep running. Give me shape. You played so many things. You know, it's kind of surprising to me that you said that you said that it was joke. I'm sure.

But like, you know, surprising to hear that. It's a really hummus after you play last year. Did that kind of take a toll on you last year? And you think that you need to push it even further getting better shapes so you can play all 16, 17 games. Yeah, definitely. I got to get way better shapes than I've been. And I feel like it was kind of like it was a joke. Of course, I needed those snaps because the years before I wasn't really playing as much. So I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt. So I can bring younger guys with me because I've been through a lot of it. One of those younger guys we're seeing out here. It's the first time I've heard all your guys years. What have you seen from Will? Because kind of a last year we all forgot about him because he was hurt. Now he's running almost a second man up behind you and Ty. What have you seen? Will is a workhorse. He goes, stay quiet. He goes work hard. And that's what I love about him. He focuses. He don't really talk much. He's going to get a job done. Do a job right. Really has any mistakes? What would be a successful season? A national championship.

I ring when all the games we want to lose anything. We got a mindset that we can't be beat. We just got to go show it. That mindset different. Seems like you guys expect a national championship every year. This year even more so. You guys all come back. That's all decided like a numbers. Is that just to keep feeling different? Or is it not really any difference? It's just the same work. It's definitely a difference. Everyone working harder. We noticed our last run. Most of us don't have any years after this. So we got to go bigger going home and we're not trying to go home. Finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan. But when you look at what they did, they won the national championship. And you guys took them down to the final minute. You know what I mean? You were right there. Something goes a little different. You guys could have won that game against them. Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey, you guys want to win a national championship. But you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year. Like you're that close.

So I'm saying we just like work harder. That's that's kind of coach makes of saying you know nobody cares. Work harder like those know one plate Georgia is the same thing. Yeah. Last last play. You know, they went on the win in that. So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles. Of course, it's frustrating, but you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on it. You just got to come back and work harder, do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older, you kind of learn. I thought I was working hard and then you always find out there's a little more. Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college. I thought fresh me. I was working as hard as I could, but not look back at it. I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything. The standard is a 16. What do you need it to be to be your best? Uh, 85.

80 85. I mean, I can it's all on me. I just I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder in shape. It's been a thing. The idea of a potential is 16 and 17 and 17. What's the side about that idea that's making you nervous about can you last that long? I think I think I definitely can last. I was just, you know, we got to get the young guys that come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps of game. That's just too much on our bodies. Everybody's like online. We got to get those younger guys to play, you know, get that pieces on the D line and online and everywhere else. So we can last that long. Speaking of the light playing. Did you like playing that many snaps of game last year? I don't know if any of us were really expected to be playing that many snaps of game. Yeah, I did. Unless we were like winning by like a lot. I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something.

But we're playing them big games like, you know, Notre Dame, too, or North, those kind of games. Of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald and he got the key. You guys have a second game. Oh yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal. You haven't really seen it yet, but in practice he shows it all the time. He's just, he's growing right now. He has to work, I think. He just has to get, you know, into playbook and things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen, you're both listening to 6th or you're 327, he's 326. Yeah, he's a kind of look at him like my junior, but you know K-Mac, he's going to be a great player. He's got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you older guy. There's that large group of young guys and then there's these seniors in your back. Is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well? Yeah, definitely. We got to be leaders. Like I said, we got to have them play this year. Just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work. And we got to get them right during the off season.

So they can play. And not just play, they want to like contribute, like make plays, tackle the sex. It seems like these guys get bigger. Each one of the freshmen class is going to be bigger or bigger. And those guys kind of, those are going to kind of while you're in the cell. Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes. And they all work hard. I'm really seeing much of some of the day too when I'm passing on. But throughout the workouts, they've been working hard. They're determined to have to say that. And it looks like they're ready to work with me. I'm going to score this notes. It feels like there's a lot of great defense. You have big athletic defense attack. So you can eat up space. But also move, you know, right? Is that required maybe for a great defense to have guys like you that have some balls, but also a great feeling? Yeah, it is definitely. I think if you look at the last couple of national championship winners, like team of Northe, you know, they got two good, uh,

detackled, two athletic detackles. Look at Georgia, two athletic detackles. I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. If you think about that, they won't defied by the defense attack. He's like, what's Georgia, Jordan Davis and Jeff Carter? Let's miss you again. It's Chris Jenkins. I have a more questions for you guys. How, I mean, you understand it because you play it, but I feel like some time I don't know. Are people realizing how important defense tackles are? A little bit more than they used to? I think so. I think there's started to develop to develop more and more of these like freakish detackles. Yeah. Like in the combine, just now, you see in like those guys, they're moving forward to 478s and things like that. So we'll see. And when you think about this freakish attack attack attack attack, how do you think you fit into that mold of that kind of player? You watch that and say, yeah, that's me. Yeah, definitely. I think I'm top notch when it comes to detackles, but I don't want to, you know, get a big head, but you know, watch it come on. I watch it do the drills. I have tape to you.

You're like, you're looking like my film. So I think I'm up there with all those guys. Do you become like a artist? Do you become like a artist? I think the way it's going to change things. When you're going, you're not doing as much a weapon on a weapon. How do you work on that? Do you have like a goal in mind? I don't remember how many you have last year. Do you have a goal in mind? How many do you want to have? I mean as many as I can have, I think I have more than that, but I think they've counted. I think they've counted some of them. And it's some of them where I like just listed. So, but I think we work on drills matching the hand. I think that's, uh, goes big. And uh, what we do is a D line, you know, just affecting the quarterback is, anyway you can, it's just great for the defense. You know, just that little thing covering his eye, you know, he might throw it a little bit to the left to our players. So, so it's something that you really, really have to work on. It's really, that's one of the things that you've maybe worked on the most. You can bring your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen.

Like, oh, that pastor just keeps it down. We don't have to ask for this style. We're kind of, kind of expected for the second. I think I just have like a, like, an eye for the ball comment. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just, I see him like load up. I just try to get in his way and sometimes he throws it to me. I don't know. I hear it. You want to be on the high state quarterback. I'm in a bad down pass. I mean, they get frustrated by, you know, we're a team, you know, we're just good. Big time to grow, you know, you don't have to have the, the pig mentality of problem of, of, of instant gratification, you know, you can develop and grow. Um, so, and sometimes you may be, uh, and behind a guy that's a really good player is nothing wrong with developing and growing and playing when your time is right. And if the time is right right now, the freshman, like, what's your name? Did you play early, you know, um, so we try to also sell that, you know, we care about him as people and try to prepare you for life after football. Um, so it's bigger than just football. We're going to prepare you for life. Whether it's the NFL or on with a regular career in, in a workforce,

we want you to prepare you as a young man and we try to sell that and preach that, uh, to the parents. With, you know, we're having that impact that you mentioned, rolling all these different spots. Do you anticipate, you know, there wasn't a lot of rotation among the cornerbacks last year when everyone was healthy. Do you anticipate maybe growing him through the rest guys here with the longer season potentially? Yeah, we play it about here. You know, I mean, we see how goals by time we get in the camp, but you know, obviously he, he's earning his stripes. So, you know, I mean, when you earn your stripes, you know, a large opportunity for you. You know, I mean, we have to see how it goes with all the other stuff. You know, once we get closer to the season, um, we're getting the game plan stuff, but he's doing a great job and he's, and he's taking a great step forward. Tim, we're going to go way that you've been building the room. We're the way you kind of just have a shirt from now. It seems like it's been like the centerpiece is kind of relationship and kind of building bonds. But I'm curious, is that something that you came in, put the, like a couple years ago, with the intention of doing this is something that you're like, that's kind of been cultivated over the course of your time as a position. You know, it's been there for a while. I've been doing that for a long time.

It's all about relationship. If you develop real relationship and you're authentic in your communication, and you have honest feedback and you have, you know, direct teaching, the guys that have a value and character and they appreciate that stuff, they're embrace that. Um, so, but they have to know you care and you have to know that it's real and they have to know that you're really concerned about there. We're being as a young man and when you get close to them, it's been a lot of time with them off the field. You could coach them hard and you can, you can, and you can, you can say truthful things to them and then they'll embrace it. And you can have real conversation because you know, the only goal is to help them get better as a young man. As you see, computers go, and then those are told that the receiver room is so far ahead of the border, we get a kind of skewed that evaluation sometimes. How's that dynamic change in these two years? Is this group shot in Boulder and you're better at even more counting? Yeah, it's done balanced up a little bit now. That goes with great competition. We have the, uh, we go against the best receivers in college football. So that helps escalate your growth process. If you don't figure it out real fast, you're getting embarrassed. Um, so that competition, but what happened with that,

I guys start competing, I guys start growing, I guys got better and now it's even up a little bit. So where you get really good work at practice today, you know what I mean? So it's competitive, it's fun. Those guys both on both sides of all care about each other. So it's great competition and they all are real close. So you know what I mean? It's that stuff that gets us better, uh, that will prepare us for Saturday. I asked Denzel, how about this, that same idea? First day of practice actually, the receivers kind of got them. Is that any kind of a good way to call me if you're this, this is my plan. No, it's just, it's going to competitive, man. They got the best group in the country that you're going to get every day. So you have to bring it every day, you know what I mean? So they, they, we got a great quarterback room. We got a great receiver room. The running backs are really good. So when you out there going against them is deep. So you have to be ready for it. And obviously, man, we're seeing a lot of good stuff with, with, with, with, with, stay in Coach Kelly doing over there. And so it prepares you a lot, um, and it helps us grow. So what's your room plan? Kind of an exhaustive for green, for green. Is that, is, is the, you're pretty, uh, a, uh, a wide receiver room kind of,

like a part of your green. It's like, these are the guys you get to play against. Yeah, always, because you know, that's where you get better. Iron shop is iron. So you know, you get to see that every day of practice. That helps you grow. It's no better, uh, thing to go against every day than to see that on a daily basis. I'm also near room massage. We're looking at to play that in this moment. We just moving a lot of guys around. If you watch our practice, we have a lot of guys in there right now. You know, we pop up through a four different guys in there. Obviously, Lorenzo's in there, Jameen is in there. Caleb, um, miles, we have, we have about four or five guys moving around. Right now, we just try things out in spring ball. See what it fit, you know, see what things work together. So it's no problem. It's some more guys in there. You know, we move it around to try to just get the right fit throughout the N and C. How it goes by time we get really start the season. He can run any strong. You know what I mean? He's fast, uh, very serious about his business. Uh, he's big. It's 200 pounds. He can run. He's strong. He's conscientious. Now, man, he's starting to grow and he's starting to get better with it. You know what I mean? So we look for big things for him in spring. What do you want to see from here? This spring.

Keep competing. You know what I mean now? He's made the, uh, the transition, um, competing today. You know what I mean? Start going in that transition is all just like I'm in germany last year. You throw them in the fire. You let them go. You compete. You go by time we get out of the end of training camp. It'll be them figured out. Yeah, I want that. But now you just throw it all at them. compete. Continue to grow. Continue to learn. He has the skill set. He has the length. Now you just got to put it all together. And it takes time to do that. Um, and hopefully you see that by time we get in the training camp. It seems like a midwinter springing kind of clicked for juvenile last year. And you start to see and perform a little better in practice. Is that like a benchmark for where you want parents to be? By the middle of spring, does he have to be at a certain point? Well, I'm going to be able to do that. I'm going to be able to do that. Yeah, by time you start getting about two weeks from now, that last week, you know, because it takes time because there's a lot of stuff going on. But, you know, by the time you get into that last week of spring ball, you'll just start seeing the things that you look for show up. And then, you know, you get another evaluation again when you get into training camp. See if this stuff carried on to make sure we go up for starting in September. What's your assessment of? What do you like about him and that technical spot?

He's very conscientious. He's smart. He can run. He's tough. He's made the adjustment because he's out of Europe on his belt. So now you can see he's not making a lot of mistakes. He competes. He's real conscientious. And he has a physical presence. So the growth has been really good and we look to continue that throughout spring. Coach, thank you very much. Right. I can ask one more. All the guys that came back like Denzel the Great Examples because that surprised you as you reflect on all these guys that came back late to Ransom. They could've turned pro. No the culture here is real. Coach, they does a great job of building the culture. Our room is close knit. The guys on defensive real close. Those guys want to come back to have an agenda. You know, we want to come back. They want to come back to the gym. They want to come back to the gym. So, that's what I said. And you know what I mean, it's all right. It's all right. You know what I'm going to do is play the game. And get some nutrition. I'm going to go with the gym. And I'm going to play for you. on defense are real close. Those guys want to come back. They have an agenda. You know, we want to come back. They want to come back and walk away with something. So it didn't shock me. But it's a good environment for them too. You know what I mean? That's when you see those guys come back. That's a testimony to the culture that's set here. Their brotherhood,

their environment. And of course, they run the program for those who want to come back. Because we go at it. It's hard. It's not easy. It's not easy. What we do. So, in fact, they come back and do that as a testament to how he runs the program. Thank you very much. As far as intensity, how would you evaluate your game tonight? Yeah. My goal was just to come out play as hard as I could. It was a little weird last week. For the first time in my career, playing a game that doesn't necessarily mean anything in terms of playoff contention. And I kind of had to check myself. And this week come in with a mindset of every game matters. And we need to put the best product out there that we can. And that's what I try to do. Later now, it was a cool push. Or you looked at it looking into your working push-up, but you retired. You didn't seem shaken up right after you kind of just talked about what happened. Yes, Sam just tried to get it on it and caught me. It was more of like a

stinger type thing. But the ref wanted me to go to the tent. So I had to go answer some questions. Your helmet? It was like jammed, yeah, my neck. You are helmet. I know that you've got a sort of a different helmet. How do you want to do it? Yeah, maybe. When it hits the top like that, it's not as good. But I feel like these guys 11 months ago kind of crushed their dreams. Do you get the sense they're a kind of a different team? Or an also that they this was a very important game for them to win? I don't think they're that different. I think they've had a ton of injuries on defense, which hurts them. But the mentality of the head coach, you could see it throughout everybody. It's really a cool team. I could just see from afar that it's probably a fun team to play for. And they've they come out and they play to win every game. And I respect that. So much emphasis on the ball, ball meetings, takeaways. And I think you've got two since the

by-week. Is there any accounting for that? I mean, there's so many different things that go in you with turnover or takeaway. How do you track your brand around? It goes into every level of the defense. When you have your opportunity, I know we had two against Stafford. That could have made, I mean, if maybe if we get those, it sparks a bunch of other ones. So you just have to make your make your plays when they're there. And then just be in being the right spots. And I don't think we've done a great job of that this year. You're watching the last side, most of the night, the pool is all pro. Did you want that matchup? Would you think about that matchup tonight? It's good. He's a really good player. And yeah, I wanted to see where I'm at against him. Have you ever seen anything like the Jameson Williams touchdown or his pop act to him? Have you seen something like that? I was in the tent. So I had no idea that

happened. There was a play in this game in Mustafa. I'm kind of a misdirection sprinted all the way across the field to make the play. Did you see the play? I think it was, was it the one Gibbs cut back? Yeah. Yeah, I had like a ten yard cushion and he ran by me like I was didn't exist. And I tried to sprint and I just just like I don't have this. And thankfully Mustafa is a heat seeking missile and he made the play. I mean, I think we came in with the right mindset as a team, just myself. It felt a little like dead energy wise. But yeah, it was a learning moment for me to learn and make sure that I come in with the right mindset every single week.

It feels like there's a lot of plays where you guys get to get the whole past breakups and it'll be like a couple plays in a row and then there's an explosive about what can you believe in on about the emphasis? Yeah, I mean, we did get them to the second third and longs. And then yeah, they would make a big play and you definitely want to capitalize when you back them up like that. We didn't do that tonight and that's why they scored 40 points. I'm sure, yeah, I'm sure. Oh, yeah, for sure. You had guys like Chris Carter, guys like Michael Thomas really knew two guys for sure. I mean, Michael Thomas was talking to me before the game or the Rose Boat

Chris Carter in after the game as well. I mean, just giving me advice, just tell me to keep going first and you know, just keep doing what I've been doing the whole year. I mean, I'm God's bugger I legend. So definitely look at them. God's for sure. Make sure to spare. It means a lot. Just to care for Miami, just be able to play an actual championship as a first minute. Something that I dreamed of as a kid and I'm here now and is okay, ready, okay, can't wait to put on a show Monday. He said he did not. I mean, the Tissue, like he says, made crazy each and every week playing, but you know, can't let it get to my head. I should say, let me just football at the end of the day, but you know, just know happy business.

Oh, none of us think we could be covered, man. Oh, man, we'll actually talk about this yesterday as well, but you know, I mean, that's what they do. That's what they do. I mean, we just go God, they're, you know, play our game and no short of reason why not to play man. Oh, man. To two. Four. Three. One? I've got five. It's clear. I'm just going to go out there and Monday and just dominate the person I'm

confronting me. Just do what I've been doing for the last two to three weeks I should say. They play men on men so I'm just ready for the challenge. I mean feels good just to say somebody going out there and playing men on men against Ohio State receivers is something crazy but you know we just ready for the challenge they say they're not changing their gameplay but we got to go out there and show them the reason why not to play men on men. I mean if I be on a cover I'd be on a cover. It's not really a big deal to me. It may definitely be a blessing for sure just to be on a cover of a game but it's not really a dream of mine. It's a dream of mine but I don't really think too much of it.

I mean no not yet. Probably hit me after this easy. Just playing Carlos football players as a freshman, playing the roles bowl as a freshman, playing a Cardin Bowl and not in the National Championship. I mean it's a blessing for sure but it hasn't hit me yet. My favorite catch I would say we play Michigan State the one I call the two defenders definitely probably my favorite for sure. Or you can go the one from Iowa as I said and it ends up part of them too. I mean like you said it's pretty frustrating me having the game that I had in the

roles bowl and coming to the Cardin Bowl and just doing different things, changing their scheme up for against me. But I mean like you said whatever I could do to make the I mean hug the team when. It's not really a big deal for me. As long as we win that's all I really care about and it got us to the National Championship. It means a lot we put a lot of work in this this season. We have we have highs we have lows we have people kind of out but we hear now we just ready to put on a show Monday. Yeah.

First of when this National Championship because there was means a lot I mean you see everything that he bent on the ship people saying to be fine and there's that in the third but you see everything that he bent through this year I mean I see everything I he bent through this year on see everything people saying my head on Twitter. I wasn't here he first got the head coach and job but I know this year for sure we definitely got to win this for him. I mean it's a lot a lot of people in the lead I should say I can't really say who but I mean you had guys like oh there you had guys like oh there you had Steph on the eggs means a lot of my good Tom is Chris Carter just a lot of you know guys I played in NFL and stuff like that but yeah really them guys for sure. No just keep going on you got it you net stuff for sure really I really

really that for sure. Like a physical defense like like you said like people say like they like they play man they're not changing their skin so we're just ready for the challenge like you said the best defense we probably go see all year and we just got to be ready to go out there Monday and just put on the show. I'm excited for will him first coming here in Ohio State January our first workout we had together just everything we did through the season I'm just happy for him to be in this position right now but we got to finish the job and that's the thing that he's been doing right now.

It's pretty funny them saying that because I'm just only a freshman but I miss a blessed for sure people to even say that but I got two three more years left of callers and I'm just focused on callers right now I'm not really worried about that. It's very special for me just being a freshman and playing the national stage up here for national titles something that I dreamed of as a very young kid. I'm just happy to be here and I just can't wait to put on some Monday for you to get back on the show. All of the scenes we just sit on the bench and we just see him hit the quarterback the ball come out and we all just got up and just started jumping up and down we all decided happy for Jack and I moment and we just knew that

that moment like yeah we're going to the ad for sure. Ministers a lot mean you know going from high school or when a three-state championship a Shamanama Donna then you know coming to Ohio State just competing for national charter right now me just so that I picked two great schools but I'm happy to be here and I just came with the corner show Monday. The coolest person I mean you got a lot I can't really say just a specific person you got a lot of great guys we trying to lead like O'Dell you have guys like Stefan Deakes a lot of other players will just get cut off my mom but

really really into guys for sure O'Dell a step on this. Yeah yeah I mean like they say they play man so I mean I'm just ready for the Tigers and just get ready to go out there Monday and just no put them so thank you. We're going to go back. The vice-geno had gave me I said just keep golfers. I know the reason why I'm here and me like he said just keep golfers and just no keep the main thing and the best corner I face this year. I mean I face a lot of great corners I can't really say but yeah I face a

great daughter of the corner here really put a name on it. My dream occasion is Teres and K-co's. What are you doing? My dream occasion is Teres and K-co's. How good are you? I'm just curious. I say both respect and frustration as well but I mean I thought they come out there and they say you stick it to what they've been doing all year and that's playing man covers which is ready for the challenge. Pretty good group Christian Gary 29 is a great corner 15,

the Narmor, two great guys are right there. Very physical but you know we all highest never see but so we ready for the challenge. I say just no understanding the defense, understanding the game plan, understanding what Coach Kelly is trying to get done. I mean just coming in I felt I progressed from my first game against Akron to now. I better each and every week me being slowed down a lot for me but yeah I really just know understanding the defense and understand what they're trying to do to me for sure.

I'm two guys great part of the best we go see all year for sure. Two physical guys but you know we're ready we're ready for the challenge that they're coming with and that's the play man oh man and you know we ready to go on Monday. Yeah I mean the environment is pretty crazy seeing all these cameras. Something I never thought I'd see it in my life but it's a blessing for sure this is the main institution right now. I mean we just had a prayer prayer prayer prayer meeting and you know we all they all the we all discussed the issues because they discussed issues and which is what the work I mean not two and a half weeks we had off before Tennessee game and we just came out there on Tennessee game and we played with a chip on our

shoulder all throughout the playoffs and we go continue to play with that chip on our shoulder in a championship on Monday. Do you know how that very impactful yeah the very impact on my career after say you know just going to his games as a very young kid seven eight years old him playing Westfield Westfield G and they play in the same way and I'm saying Orange Bull down in Miami. I mean just going there seeing his games it's like yeah I definitely want to play on his stage and I can't wait till I get to know that moment for sure. Are you. Was there a cause they really just in his own his own love space he's just walking around trying to get his mind right trying to get his mind ready for the game but you know he's just getting everybody hype in the locker room and you know just trying to get us ready to go to

the game. Yeah. Oh yeah oh yeah for sure I mean you go play man against Ohio State receivers I mean just be ready because you know we definitely go come out there and know give our best and I mean they said not go change what they do so we're just ready for the challenge. Not a year later definitely sometime my career college but not my first in college I should say I mean just to be able to be in this position right now it's you know a blessing or just a kid from Miami to be here and I won't take it for granted I'm ready to go out there my name is Maro. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I was watching that game against was a Georgia I believe yeah I was watching that game I was pretty sick myself because I was actually committed at that time so I mean yeah they left a bad test name off but I mean we ready to go out there Monday to redeem myself and they'll just put a show Monday. Yeah. I mean me I just laugh but you know that's what they do they're not going to change what they do just because we're Ohio State so I'm just going to go out there and put it on put it on why not to play man on man it gets us so we just got to go out there and show them my day.

He said again I'm sorry. My journey here at Ohio State repair me a lot from that your shape of shit me just going through everything that I've been through my first guy here all of Matt jurals all the hard work guys that we had all the hard practices me just preparing all of this for this moment and I'm just ready to go out there and give it up my all on my day. Okay. Okay. Who just squeezed this? 200? Me he is big and strong. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Go. Yeah. That's what you know.

What's 20? Yeah that's great. Yeah. Pretty good. No problem. Uh, when I part of like the Moses the one against Michigan State when I caught over two defenders on the airsoft line. Party like one or the one after that I should say or you go the one against Iowa probably them three probably my best ones for sure. Oh, I mean just we'll put in the ball in my area and I just know how to make a play for them.

Even though somebody was grabbing my face my just know I still how to make a play because the ball touched my hand. So I mean just when the ball and the other thing I have to make the play no matter how the ball comes at me. After a big game. Um, I mean we really they really feed us chick filet or piece out of the game. So it's really either chick filet or piece. So yeah, probably chick filet for sure. Yeah. Uh, it went it went pretty good. Everybody just uh, uh, speaking with their thing is going right and what they think is wrong.

Um, we just a lot of the older guys what's in their opinions on what we need to do to come to get as a team. Um, but you know that me and definitely helped us in a in a big way because it helped us on the field as well. We played a great football right now and we just got to do that one Monday. Yeah, definitely got emotional. Uh, can't really say what really was said because that's not prayer prayers only and coaches only but it would definitely some stuff said that. People took. People took and they went with it and that's the reason we plan to is right we plan right now. Uh, yeah, make help me a lot this year. Um, him being our older guy in the room. Um, me help me and Carl Nell as well and Brandon and all the guys in our city room as well. Me just a great guy as well. It's very smart. I mean, make just been a big part of the reason that I'm having a seat that I'm having a look because he's been a big.

You know, older guy been there, been a lot of great guys in that room like Chris a lot of way. Garret Wilson Marvin Harrison Jr. Jackson Smith and Jibba. We see all the greats I've been through there. Me teaching us the right thing and the right way and the book out way for sure. I'm just following with it's much like what you're saying. You know, I feel like I was reading, you know, right? I mean, I mean, I just feel like I had all the office. I think I'm not mean with obviously. I had fucked down like a hurting work size, but it doesn't matter. You get hearing of all the stuff. What was I like to make that in the sense that you know, I felt good. You know, I felt like I had all the hard work and I do that spring. I'm teaching that coach you gave me and I just paid off. I just know this way. I'm playing with the camera. They give the two deep as a true freshman. I was late for the new knowledge opportunities and have a bigger role this year. So what do you expect going into second? You know, I just work to beat. I mean, obviously, you know, we run whatever, we've had many sayings or whatever.

I mean, I'm just working just to beat, you know, work my tail off, you know, make a role for my sanction. I've been trained specifically with the ball. I got, I would say like, I got a lot more aggressive and I gave, you know, I gave some weight now. I'm pushing towards 200 pounds now and I'm not against Harvard. Coach Patricia, what have you, uh, the state of Canada now? I've been like, here with them. You know, he's a great guy. You know, I like him. You know, he's a great guy. He cares about his players. You know, obviously football wise. He's a master in the United Highness. He is a well respected. He's football business. You know, in his time being in Atlanta, so I think he's going to affect you. Was there, was there a time when it was like the starter or occasional piece of what? What's the point of expecting to see from this? The tail of the plane and in his barrel. I'm not expecting, you know, just to add value, you know, formal movement for this team. You feel a lot more popular this year. Or you last year? Oh, yes, for sure. I feel like I'm starting to use the everything here. And I feel like I'm just trying to pull up on the last year.

You know, I'm not saying that I'm going to make a role with my players. What? I was going to say, you know, mindset at the beginning was freeing. I was starting to scratch in a way, not letting too much of the shadow of the rest of the team. How is the team really embraced that mindset and say competitive in that mindset? You know, you know, you know, you're going to have to be a good player. You know, we have more of our ideas, you know, so far. So, you know, we're trying to stay determined. And I know just trying to dominate. And I'm not learning in the past anymore. It's like you never been happy with the time of another one. The coach has got to venture their head in the A and B role. You have to have a beer. The rules are going to go in. You have to get some roots in another position. Well, obviously, you know, right now, playing in the starting phase. You just trying to, you know, craft myself and just, you know, make myself more versatile for this team. Wherever I go. I think if you get some more last part of it, that's bad. Limiting his reps. Right. Obviously, he's living in like a playoff. So, you know, obviously, the lead is, you know, empty he, you'd be wearing a lenses, a long working. I mean, skipping, skiing better.

Thank you. Appreciate you. You know, the clients, so like there's some stuff. At least we, they, you did over there in order to aim that we'll see if we're able to kind of implement something that here I'm sure some, maybe not others, depending on what our guys do best. The highest time I see it, because it's like, it's a fresh start. A new set of eyes on them. And I think it's an opportunity to be multiple and use him. And what he does best, you know, or so. That's the exciting thing. You know, when you really studied what coach Patricia has done in the past, is he likes to take like, who are, like who are our players? And then let's build it around those nights. And I think CJ has had a hell of a winner. I think he's one of those guys. So I'm excited to see how we create a benesum into the spring. Does that mean you see how to be like float as more of an edge defender? Kind of differently than you guys do? I think, yeah, I think he has that, I think that's exactly what kind of like potential CJ has. It's the ability to, you know, get on the edge, move around. The nice thing about that is, is that you're not handicapped just with CJ doing one thing off the edge.

You think you have the ability because he understands consensually, so on drops, linebacker terminology, right? You can get really creative with how you use him. But I think he definitely needs to be utilized more as a, just go after the heart attack, go beat and disrupt this. What's happening? See about me and your feet. I don't know. I don't know. I'm fine, I don't mind that. What about Matt? He's the leader of you guys. This coach is not you. How are you? I see all the papers with you guys and how are you seeing that? How do you feel about the higher? I love the higher. I've had a lot of respect for coach Patricia. I've never since he worked me a Marcus out back here. And what we were talking about that when he first was in the interview process is kind of how fast time goes. But I'm really excited just to continue to learn. Like I said, like there's some, it's funny because there's some terminology that when I was at Notre Dame, you can use and I can at least speak some of his language with what he's called things before.

And you're trying to morph everything together right with these things that we've done. What he knows, what we do, it's a lot. But he's been incredible with, I think the staff he's very organized, he's detailed. You'll have constant, clear communication. You know, I may have, we're going to get together at this time and you're just efficient in your role. And it's been a lot like when you're come from outside and you come back into it, and you have to try to catch them up on the recruiting board. You know, like you have a lot of these conversations. Okay, what are we looking for at these positions now? How do you see it? Because you know, under one coordinator, you might see a, the mic line back, it needs to be this and under this coordinator, while I think the mic back needs to be this. So you have to have those conversations at every position. And you just kind of keep going through. But I'm just excited to learn. I think the more systems, I mean, look, play the system here in college, play the system, underneath the Magnolo, play the system in Tim Walden,

play the system under Greg Williams, Dennis Allen, Coach of Galagol, and Jim Nalt. Every one of those, there's like different terminology for everything. So you're just, you're learning a different language, Colin Think. You know, I mean, there's his concepts. And I think he was kind of collect over time. What you think is really good stuff, and how you do stuff a big deal, a little different, and I'm just really excited to learn from that. And I'm telling you success. He seemed very excited over there talking really to me here. Yeah. Focusing college, which is whatever. So long. What's his personality like with you guys? Yeah. He's been great. I mean, his energy is incredible. He's very, he is. He's authentically excited to be back in Cultural Ball. He could tell there's like a yearning to get back to, like the while you got in the coaching, right? Is the impact, young people, is the impact, and teach the game of football. And so the future has been a fun, you know, kind of like talking to the guys, in a sense like he's excited to just teach ball. You know what I mean? And kind of ironically, like, you know,

simply do a lot of things with the chips at last year, right? You gotta get back and you're like, man, I'm just excited to. And so if he has that excitement, he's done a phenomenal job, I think of getting to know the players. Just kind of like walking around versus like popping in, making sure that he's in front of them and they get to know him and he gets to know them and it's a lot. You can imagine when you come in and you have all these guys, right? And trying to learn all these guys, trying to learn the recruiting, trying to learn the staff, trying to learn dynamics, like it's a lot. But he's handled it really well. You know, he's an old school ball coach, so he's a grinder. So he's really good job. James, son, he's probably not going to need to do much in this spring. How much more can you get down with the young guy? I've gotten that. So you've got to do a lot. But in terms of, right there, he said, you know, thank you for saying 75% or whatever. How much more can you get down with the young guys when they're not worried too much about the senior? Yeah, I think, I mean, you're always just looking for competition, especially like in Spring Bowl, that's what it's all about, right? You're trying to have, it's so cliche, but it's true. Like the Iron Sharpens, Iron mentality of,

you want your run to be super competitive, to where, hey, the guy in front of me makes a play, my next set of four plays, I go out there, I have the on point, right? And it's a constant driving of the room forward. And so, yeah, son, he gets 50 or how many reps, he reps off 50% of the coach said, then that means more opportunity for somebody else to play, right? So that'd be more for our values, that scheme flexibility with our value, we're going to pay peers around, that TJ Riley, you like all these guys stove, we're all going to get more reps, I think it's great, it's what you got to do at this point in the season. But I think, you know, yes, there's still stuff that, within that all of a sudden, he's going to be, clawing to try to get those reps, because he's a true pro. And, you know, that's been the most enjoyable thing about, I think, working with him is like, you get a kid who's played safety his whole life, comes to the back yard, he just wants to learn the why behind everything.

And, you know, very similar to the fact of Cody, like, would you have guys who are that easy to work with? You're not trying to like, not worried about texting anybody in our room, about coming over and trying to learn all, you know what I mean? Like, were you at, you know, like, they're obsessed with the game of football, they're always around when they're not at class. So it's like, it makes it really easy as a coach, because they're passionate for the game, and so strong. You mentioned TJ in terms of the higher-width map, just looking sunny, like, what do you envision more with him with all of that stuff? I think, I think we just have a lot of guys with a lot of links, we talk about sunny styles, long, conron, our velvets, long, conron. Like, it's crazy, because you see sunny, you're like, okay, this guy, like, I wish I was built like that when I played, and then you see our vel stand next to sunny here, like, you know what I mean? And so, like, and then you look across the room, like, as the room warms up, you're like, holy smokes, like, we just have a bunch of guys,

and that's a lot of credit to make. Coach Mate does a phenomenal job. I was just talking to Burm about it, like, to see even our mid-year guys what they looked like when they showed up during the bowl of the whole natty run, and they're kind of hanging out during practice, and you see the high school bodies to see what they look like today before they go away, and like, the shoulders are all like, everything is just different, and they've been indoctrinated into the brotherhood. So I think, you know, there's just a lot to work with, and so what he's really good at right is, like, and he's talked about it. One year, he has junior say, we'll even get a smite for Abel, you know, Roosevelt Colvin, and those guys, and then a couple of years later, he has Brandon Spikes, so he's like, okay, I'll just put his blitz brand in the middle all the time, because he has 26 pounds of beast, and he always says he was my best nose guard, and from Mike Bakker, right? And then the year after that, he gets, you know, we've got Jamie Collins and Dante Hightell, and so now we can do a lot of stuff, right?

So they're just like, hey, this is what we're doing. We got plenty of blood in them, and I'm like, hey, here's what we got. Let's utilize it. So that's what strength will be. Wall going to lab, and figure out what they mean. So I'm sure through Spring Ball, there'll be like, hey, here's what we do really well. I just tune it, because this unit's gonna be different, right? I mean, there's a lot of production, so the unit will be different. So you've kind of got to reform your own identity, and you're re-earned that civil bullet nickname in mantra. How many of you guys can look at our bell, and just seem like he's on a very good track, is that it, the way he described it, just puts his ceiling, just helps you to start on the bell. It's just a lot, and right now he's locked in. He's done a great job becoming a leader, coming out of his shell, and thinking, I think, for the belly, it's all about his just to see, his preparation, and I'm proud of our bell. You know, he's through the season, you got way better at, you know, a lot of it's little things, just note taking stuff. Like sometimes these kids are always on their phones and stuff,

not like the meeting rooms or anything like that, but just naturally. So like to get out of pen and paper, and like, you hear things, and to me, yeah, I got it. What you do until your dog tired, and then you forget, you know what I mean, but when you really understand it, you know what I mean? Like, go play faster. You got so much better through the year, just a lot of that's because of Cody, like, becoming a pro. And then now it's like, Sonny's pulling him along. He's pulling pain along, the pain's falling to DJ, and Riley and Eli, so they didn't still like, so I kind of love the competition and I'm right now, and the way it's made up. Yeah, that was a great path for him. How many different guys do you feel like can be a man's might spot? Appreciate it. But that was obviously losing Cody, and now having that. I think that's something that's slower as we kind of go. Because, you know, week one, Sonny actually started out mic for us, and Sonny's smart enough to play them all. Our bell is smart enough to play them all. Painter is smart enough to play them all. And that's also like, how do you,

like, depends on what scheme you're running. Where are they? How do they be utilized as well? You know what I mean? So, you say, like, Mike Backer, you know, whether it's Tommy, I can very grow up in recent. Two different people, and Cody's different than those two. So, my challenge to like, a lot of the guys that come in, is to go, you all learn both. The more you understand about the scheme in general, the faster you will play. You know what I mean? Like, if I just sit here and I say, hey, I got to learn Mike. My drop is this, and that's all I need to know. Like, or no, if people happen so fast, and all the shifts, emotions that like, if you're out there just playing and you're waiting for a call, and you're just reacting, like, you're so worried about what's going on on your side of the ball. You don't even recognize that the offense is telling you something is what they're doing. So, if I'm out there, and also I'm not getting a call, I know what the call should be. It's like, hey, are we playing? You know, let's go. Now listen, you get it. You can look. I can see, okay, here's what the tight ends doing. That's what the back's doing. Here's what plays are coming.

If you just line up and play, it's going to pass every time. Like, you know what I mean? You've got to eliminate plays in your mind by seeing what the offense is doing. Like, tell you a story every time they line up. They just window dressing. Like, people are motionless, they're trying to do man's own indicators. They're trying to make sure that they're getting the same formation. They're on the same place. But they just shift the people in the motion. And they move. And they don't want you to recognize. So, for always worried about what work you're doing. So, the more you know, the faster you can play. You're not sitting there thinking, oh, what do I have for you? You're just really acting. So, my challenge to guys, like, there's always a no-both. So, I think a lot of it will just be on, on depth of shirt guys, and get, you know, if they're going to play, they're going to play. They're going to play. They're going to play. If Sonny's only doing 50 to 75% of the plays, then probably more guys get more will reps than they had, because we need more will bodies. That's technically where Sonny started. But we'll rotate them through. Let the production kind of show what it does. And, think sometimes, you know, you'll live with some of the mistakes just from doing a new spot. But you'll be able to judge too,

like, who's actually getting the book, you know what I mean? Who's actually studying? How much a break have you seen from Sonny? This time of year go through the national championship game. And then what's next for you? Man, I mean, definitely, I know Sonny has big goals and he should. I do as well for him. And to see how far he's come, you know, first thing kind of stands out is just like his, his footwork has gotten so much better. When you're in the box with a linebacker, you got to be able to, remember Luke Fickley said all the time, and you got to be slow until it's time to be fast. And when you're twitchy, like he is, a lot of times, you know, when you're about safety, you're used to pulling a trigger and rolling. You got to learn how to shuffle and not cross over. And he got so much better as a year or not. I think a lot of people question whether he'd be able to hold up his Caldow wise and, you know, he was, he was great, you know, he used to season guy. He's really good with his hands. He's a really natural ability to snag. We'll keep challenging him.

I think he should be a dominant guy in coverage. He needs to be a guy that we can put on a tight end and be like, he's not going to be in catch on the ball. You know what I mean? Because he has that athleticism. I think we need to challenge him there. Challenge him. I think everything is just miss his onto sunny at everyone's urgency in zone coverage. I mean, the urgency with you have to break on the football to close that space, not at the ball carrier, have so much space on you to cut making miss. It's critical. I think sometimes he's, he could be so athletic that, you know, he can get away some stuff. And he knows anything that I'm saying right now. Here he knows. So the best part is a lot of times, like he'll come to me before film and already say, like, man coach on that play, I should have, you know what I mean? Like he knows. And the best part is that he's humble enough. Our whole run is that they just want to be, they want to be pushed. And they want to be coached. And so the big heck of a loss could be asked for, right? Like, how is that? Like, what do you need for me? Just, just keep making sure like you're pushing it. You don't let me settle. Let me settle.

So he's probably the best on the run with that. Do you look at sunny and arvel, maybe that's kind of your top of the skies right now? Yeah, I mean, I think going into it, you know, I think it's, just accomplished the plan and whatever play was called, whatever it may be. Just go out there and execute it. One thing we appreciate is, execution is really the motive. You know, I didn't get me called, but as long as everybody's mindset is, has one mentality, which is, just go get it and, you know, make sure there's no yard gain. I think that changes the mindset of everybody on the civil-ability defense. Did they feel like big changes to you all as they were ongoing? I mean, at first, like, you know, it was a tough loss. So, you know, as any of you felt like everything was big, but then when you kind of just take your time to look at everything and analyze everything, it was just like, man, we just, we just need to keep everything simple, make everything and just, just about us. And, you know, not like, feel like we're, you know, making everything about damage. You know, we can dictate what they do.

And I think that was the mindset. Did it make Letterman Raw? Yeah. JT, I know you get to watch a little bit of video of Caleb and Nathan and Jordan. What stands out about that group from your vantage point? Oh, they're respected. They're relentless, man. I mean, Nathan, Caleb, and I mean, everybody in that BIA Corps, yes, they can cover, but, you know, when it's time to, you know, stop the run, they'll come down 12 yards out, however far off the front line, scribbling coming, you know, throw the nose in there, and I respect them for that, because there's going to be times where we need them to make them tackles, and I mean, they're displaying it this whole season. Yeah, how critical are they in a game of this magnitude? Obviously, everybody's critical. But you know what I mean? Yeah. Sort of the last line of defense, but sometimes the last line of defense is in the middle of it. Yeah. I mean, they play a huge role. I mean, like you said, it takes everybody from the front four. It's like a check reaction. The front four don't do their job. And you know, it falls, you know, the back end, so we off to work as a collective unit. And I think there's a reason that there's 11 of us out there. And you know, it's crazy if one person

is doing their job, then, you know, something can go wrong, but if we just all continue to stay, communication with one another, continue to just lay each other out. We have each other's backs and just trust one another. And man, I think that, that performance is going to be off the charts. Oh, for the rest, Kelly, and... Oh, for the rest, Kelly, and...
