I'm going to go over your lead up into the mic, too. When we were first impressions of practice today, it seemed like you were kind of intense with the running backs, particularly with ball security and that drill, were you on the sideline, doing some high steps. Well, I was in the back as I was in the back. So, being intentional about what you were working on. So, I got to be intentional about what I'm pouring into them. Because everything started with me. They're going to take on my mind and sit. And if I come out here looking on, looking on the 2,000, they're going to be the sound of, I don't close that way. So, every day I come out here, I take this for this one. I'm sitting around with them sit because those backs are going to close day high. I'm not telling them they're going to be on my personal side. So, I was still a people all the time. If you're a kid, it's self, it's self.

They're looking at me. So, that's why I come out here like that. So, you're really questions just on the quarterback, so far, and you're in the ball, what do you think? What do you like about that? The running backs? The quarterback. Oh, sorry, the running backs. The running backs? I was looking at Julian. Oh, the running backs. Okay, running backs. I think we're going to have a pretty good room. It's a pan with no James, CJ, Sam, obviously, no, Bo Jameson. I can't wait to get us there. That boy, next to him, we get turbo here, but right now, what we got out here, I'm excited about the game. What's your zone of dreams people? He's both as a back end as a young man. He's very mature and what's your zone of them? I mean, he's pushing to be great. I mean, I think he had a great exact relationship with Trent in the end, Q. So, he's doing some really good things, but like I said, he's going to make it easier for nobody. CJ was saying he's now 2.26. Yeah, he came in at 244 pound at Challenger, going to the process of getting him here,

because he could have went out of the places. And they say he want to be, he felt like I could get him ready. And I told myself, they're like, part of that's going to be disciplined. And I'm getting this weight down. You know, he went from 244 to 226 and piled up. But that's just so the mindset that he has to be disciplined, challenge himself. And he looks good right now. Yeah, what dimensions do you think is 20 pounds? You look faster. I don't know how different this is. Well, I mean, I look at him as a slasher. He has good, he has good enough speed, great hands. But he's a slasher, a big guy. Well, big guy is often wind with the little guy, so he's going to fall for it. But I look at him as a slasher, the power. He got really good feet for a big guy. Really good hands and good vision. So it's going to help him a little bit, which probably is longer speed, but he looks good. You were looking at the guys, I was going to take a few of them. What stood out, what stood out, what stood out, what did you see? The first to tell you the fact that he played, you know, out. You know, he was a guy that I looked at when he was a high school and a golf club. He was a high school receiver.

He was pretty good with the team. Then, you know, tried to, they tried moving the tight end, then I'm getting moving the running back. So it was diverse to tell you, he'd been doing a lot of things. Big body guy that he catched by, can run between the tackles. His feet are quicker than what you think for a big guy. He had really good feet and good balance, so that's what made some good. That's what I saw. Is that a comment for a bigger back like him that happens in the first utility? No, I don't think that's a good way. I think he's running back. So the tight end background. Well, tight end background, I don't know many with that type of background, but when he's a high school receiver, they try to play as an H-Bat. Well, really good. When you look in the portal for running back, so we want you to try to recruit running back. Does it matter to you if you have two different styles of running back? Maybe one guy can do certain things better, one guy can do certain things. Or is it, you'll just say the best running back. You can fight. I want to have different styles. I'm going to try to take the same thing. You know, take the same thing. You know, take guys with different strengths.

Whether they're big guys, small guys, tall as catchers, in between the tackle runners, I don't want to take the same thing. They're all different backs. You guys know, Will and Klingshank do a lot of their slower red zone story. You guys are doing a good job. Is it important to find the back of the badge that size the CJ has to open? I have my own opinion on the size thing when it comes to the red zone. I had Jordan James out of order. And I use my red zone running show yards lines of freshman. Probably way to 2-10-125, which is not very big. But they ain't got anything to do with them. Some guys just got a nose sticking their backs on. And you play with a lot of aggression down here running. And that could be CJ, that could be James. Or it could be the freshman, though, Jackson. It's just who has a nose for getting his on. But that's who I'm going to roll with. You don't have to be 62 or 64.

No, just because you're being there. I'm going to make you proud. We knew we could obviously get a freshman running back to coming in, but I was there here. But what do you need to see from a freshman to feel comfortable with that playing? The first thing we're going to do with that on the ball, whether they do their little small detail, or take care of the ball. The second thing we'll be, how good they are in the past, because that's the hardest thing for high school backs. Because they're not really sure on high school. But you have to understand the past, but all their falls on who you mean. So like I said, I'm here for my own. So that's why I need to see first. From everything else, I will understand the weaknesses of them because they need to be good. You feel comfortable with, with O, and I say, where they're at, or at least, where their time is at. Yeah, I think they're going to be fine. Like I said, I tell all the young guys, he's a marathon out of the split. The first thing, first you've been an armistice, not a special team. You know, you're an unsposed team.

Then you earn the right to be a bugger, so they get out there in the field. So I think they're training the right way. First practice, not it wasn't merit. Something to build off for them. Kidding stuff to work on. Good. Yeah. Long day. With guys going in, going out, you moving back to guard, going in, what was that like in the moment, having to adjust on the fly? I mean, we're built for this, like, just how, you know, I moved the center and Steve moved the left guard. It's just, we're all pretty much interchangeable. And you're going to all play all positions across the board. And, you know, when it comes down to that time, you know, things like that going to happen. We're ready for it. What did you think of AJ came in, giving all of the circumstances for him coming off the line? Yeah. I mean, all those guys are ready, you know. We prepare during the week, during training camp for situations like this.

So it's not nothing new to them, you know. Guys are calm, cool, collected, they have good composure. So being elevated, being active, being a starter, you know, we're all in the same boat, ready to fly. I know it's a next-man up mentality. But in real time, when that was happening, these guys were going down and switching. What was the challenge for both of them? Physically and mindset. I mean, we're all, like I said, we're all pretty much interchangeable, you know. Like, if I need to go to left guard center, whatever, both needs to go to center of the guard. However, you know, it's not really like a big shocker moment, you know. We train for this, we're prepared for this. So when it happens, you know, we're able to execute. Why don't you just stop and be making the switch? To left guard. I think half time? Well, coming in, it's a rookie in the crowd and the noise. And I know you said, you guys all trained for this, but what can you tell us about how he... Yeah, I mean, he's a man, you know. He's built for this moment.

He's done it for his whole life. So, you know, at the end of the day, it's just a game. And we keep on... We keep trying to keep everybody calm, calm, collected. And, you know, we're five is one. We help each other out. And whenever, you know, we need to, we do it. So he was ready. He's built for it. You know, he's going to be a great player. You're obviously no stranger to Matthew's toughness. What was it like just seeing the way he let this off? I think I, that guy's a warrior. 36 years old, he's taken some hits and some things and some dent. And he's able to get back up and keep it rolling. You know, he's still got that fire to him. You know, we love having him back there. Sean has always said after a loss, don't let the team beat you twice. But to have the lead late in the game, all the injuries and not win, you describe that level of frustration. And, you know, I think that's the NFL. It comes down to seconds and inches and who've seen it all through past couple days and today. You know, it kind of down to the little things. And, you know, we'll see him again. And I apologize if you were asked this, but what was it like for you personally to walk on to see what the other thing is?

It was kind of surreal, man. It was nice, it was all emotional seeing everybody. I wasn't a kid when I came here, but, you know, I grew into more of a man. And, and these people here have definitely helped lay that blueprint for me. It helped me out big time. I can't thank them enough for that. I know you've looked at film yet for how you feel about the D. I feel really good, you know, saying it could be because everything, careful, all of a sudden, at OTA, it's showing up. You know, we said I ground. We came up short, came up short a little bit, but in that end day, you know, it's a lot of an effort on me. I see a bright future for us. I think that's an over time drive. I mean, you guys have been stopping them and then they just seem to kind of get a role. You know, you know, just something that we just need work on, you know, got to play around better on that. And just got eliminated the big phase. That's all that it comes down to, but overall, I just felt like we just came up short on that. So, as the offense is kind of struggling to find it's hurting early in the game, what did you guys feel like you like to do as a defense team doing that? I feel like we just need to step up, you know,

I know they would have come through and have our back. So, I just tell them the offense, you know, we got y'all back, you know, just keep going, y'all doing what we want people to try to hold on to. That's what we're going to say. So, how did the visit go? Oh, it was great. Yeah. I loved it. Well, the staff here can tell it has really good family ties and strong connection. What were some things that you were looking for on your visit? Whether it's, you know, talking to coach and our vales team, I guess what was important to you on this visit? So, I mean, for me, I mean, like, this was kind of like a big decision for me, where I'm decided to kind of like not fish, not to be a grass, and then from the quarter of the cycle. I can develop the place where I can develop the most. And then, with the good old wine coach, you know, final place where I can fish in a competition, not only in games, but also in practice as well. And probably the most important is just finding a good guy that are dedicated to winning, dedicated to being great, because I mean, we have a team of me guys who aren't serious about what to be great, and it's wasting time and money.

So, I mean, until the problem, I'm a big grieve, it's a culture being kind of important. Being around the coach, hand-to-day, what was kind of the things that you noticed around him, just whether it's how he is, or just what your thoughts of him being around him most of the time. He's an incredibly detailed guy. And I got that to share from him. It's like watching a film, like he broke down, it's like some game fell on me, and he also kind of broke down. Some of the guys that he's coaching the past at are similar to me. And that was, he really just showed how good up the coach he used. Getting no coach from a bellgroom in his experience, what has that got to do with him? It was good. He's a very passionate guy. And I mean, I love that. Like, the head coach should have that. And you can tell how much he cares about what the guys want to program, about the psyche, being dedicated, being driven to win, to succeed. What did they tell you about the opportunity here as far as meeting a player of your sort at a position? Well, I mean, they see me at left tackle,

and it was, I'll be a good fit, coming in. I was a coach, no ball, stressed. You know, also, other great, almost a lineman in the portal that have lots of great skills. He was saying that, fill lives on me, I'll be a good fit when it comes to, just like what you guys do. But, what if the scene does, and a little sight, the people here? What's kind of the ultimate feeling now about FSU? Have you solved this big experience with them? What's kind of the feeling about them? Yeah, it's definitely a good feeling. It's great. I'm glad I was actually able to come down here, because I'm in calls, and folks are nice, but, you know, in person, it's a lot different. And it's a game to know the staff, your game to know coach, your coach, and the ball. It was a great experience, so for all. Who else have you checked out during this process? What other schools? Well, I've talked to some others, I've talked to a house in Iowa, and Ann, and really just, you know, that's what I've been, I've tried to keep this short, I've tried to keep this sweet,

and probably needs to be 20 bucks a schools. I mean, that's not the main priority. Are you entering decision mode now, or do you intend to take some trips in early January? Yeah, I'm going to do this in 21 design. Sometimes before Christmas. Put on. For those of you who have only seen the McIletes, what are kind of your strengths in areas you're looking to improve? So, shrink wise, I would say probably just move it. I mean, I told them to go short. I was pretty well for it in January, 45th on a guy, I have a good shot. I fight this evident on film. I think that's a guy with my stances, I think they still make it, and it's me else in the middle of the people. But at the same time, also does make the system a lot of handplacing punch on it, for working in general, just like me. I mean, if you're a big strong guy, and you can only do so much, don't have the right to any of these. That's a big reason why I want to have it, because we're working on this.

We'll find out that it needs to be precise with everything. That's kind of like what we do in the three minutes. Thanks. A lot of low-highs in the fans, because they always travel. But we approach Texas crowd for the most part. Do you guys kind of thrive off that? Do you like that kind of being the enemy? I mean, you can say that, but we don't really try to focus on the fans. We just want to produce on the field. If it's a way game, home game, we just want to go out there and execute. Four-throw, right. Cameron T. Garabon said in the athletic. There's a lot to say when you guys all came back, this also went on with Steve Delan, could be these last two games, you have 12 stacks. You guys really aren't blitzing the time. It's not even the start. The bench guys can yada, they just come in, which is what's it been like to see this, realize it's potential and kind of where the count of we have last two weeks? I say we always knew what we had in our room. Now it's just showing up. Teams are scheming us different ways.

And it's allowing certain players to make certain plays. And I think we got so many guys in the room. We have two that can be ones anywhere. We have three that can be ones anywhere in the country. But they all decided to stick here and Garnest thing out with the guys that came in with it. And like I said, I think we have a great group who can make plays at any time. When you guys get 8 stacks in a game, but also a whole lot of people called it minus 24 rush yards in the game, what is that like? What does that say about the job you guys did? I think it's a great feeling of looking up at the scoreboard and seeing like a negative. Definitely. But you know, it's just like all the work we put in over the summer, over the season. You know, we've been building this defense to where it is now. And like I said, when we're executing and we're at a high level, it's hard to do anything with us. Behind the enemy Birmingham, the bot cat. I'm not going to ask you to call out officials.

But I do want to ask you, have you ever been told before? Yeah, I think our whole D-line gets held, you know, every game. I don't know what the rest are saying or what's going on with that. But you turn on the tape and really look at it. We're held almost every play. So. Is there something that you can do guys be better actors? You be more dramatic about it? What do you think has to happen for that thing to get called in your favor one time this season? We can be actors, but you know, we don't really teach nothing like that. But I don't know if it's real, because we're a high-level state. You know, letting things go or what it is, but it's been, you know, pretty bad. I know y'all see it too. It's every play, almost every game. We got you. Adam thing, WBNF. We got a chance to see a glimpse of Coach Day's pretty game speech. The intensity that you've seen for the last two games in the playoffs. Is that different than you've seen throughout the year? And what does that do for this pretty before you go out on the field pool?

I wouldn't say it's different. He's been like that his whole year, but it's just now getting recorded and posted. But definitely when you see your head coach, it's fired up like that. It likes the fire. And you go out there and do better. And you know, you can't thank Coach Day enough, because he's our leader over this team. And when he's like that, he makes you want to go out there and do great for him, for the guys around us. Scotty, we're going to go to you with a couple of them. Yes, sir. We're going to start with Andy Anders. Andy, go ahead. Yeah, and we, uh, Texas has a runs a lot of outside zone schemes that you're just watching. What's important for the thing? Those kinds of plays on the ground and I guess just uh, you're straightening out those kinds of so to speak. Do you say that again? Yeah, I'm just Texas runs a lot of outside zone in their run game. Running schemes. Just what's important for defending that kind of plays?

It's a tackle. Uh, for a detackle versus stretch team, um, you always want to talk about penetration, like penetrating the line and not catching. Um, because once you know, you penetrate the stretch, it basically stops the stretch and makes them, you know, cut back to, you know, unblocked players. So really just attacking this game and not catching. Next question's going to come from Dan Hope. Dan, go ahead. I leak you are in a freshman class with Quinn. Now you're playing against him a few years later. Just what's that like for you? Uh, you know, Quinn's my guy. You know, he's a great competitor, great quarterback. I think it'll be fun going against him, you know, trying to get him running around. Next question comes from Kurt Bulls. Kurt, go ahead. Yeah, tell me. I don't know if it's going to be a good one. Yeah, tell me, I don't know if there's one thing you can pinpoint why y'all been so dominant. I would think maybe it comes back under the physical brand of football. Do you feel that's going to be the survivor in this game?

Who's the more physical team? Uh, I'll say definitely the more the most violent team, you know, the team that plays the fastest, executes the most and you know, uh, exceeds their game playing the most is going to win this game. I found a question will come from Stefan from Cleveland.com. Ty Lee, what's kind of your relationship been like with Ty Hamilton, especially as the season progressed and just how in sync, do you feel like you two are playing on a defensive line together? Uh, me and Ty are, you know, we've been roommates for the past two years. We live in the same apartment complex. We play the game together. It's really like one of my best friends on the team, you know, we talk about a lot of football things. So we're really on the same page with a lot of, you know, plays, teams like to run against us. You know, it could be some stunts we run. We're always, you know, connected in some kind of way. Jerry, back to you. Great, thanks. You got that.

Just a couple more questions. Joy, come up and Columbus this bat. Ty Lee, what does it say about your defensive line and how pride for you guys when you can get eight sacks, 13 tackles for loss, that I haven't been bringing a ton of extra guys and pressure but you can just go forward and do a lot of that. Uh, let's say, cool to store our coach, Coach Jay. Um, this is a lot of technique and, you know, sometimes it doesn't show up because, you know, team scheme you different ways. But when you have a team one dimensional, like they have to pass the ball, that's when all the, you know, the bash rush technique and stuff comes out. And I think we've gotten Tennessee and, uh, organ to those situations where they had to pass the ball and, you know, just let us rush free instead of worrying about the run. What does that make sense? Are you guys just winning those one on one of those past rushing situations to ICOs to get so many sacks and TFLs? Yeah, I'll say we're definitely winning way more one on one now. And, uh, you know, they're not keeping as many guys in the box to block us because they have to, you know, they're trying to come back. So I think it's, like I said, it's just cool to sort of offense, you know,

creating these big leads and making teams one dimensional. Before I left, David Bigou spent WCME. Tyler, we've talked about how better the team has gotten. I have this tube getting off to fast starts on those sides of the ball. But there has been some scoring late in the first half. Like it's Tennessee and it gets Oregon. Has there been renewed emphasis on controlling the middle lane and how important will that be against Texas? Uh, definitely, you know, that's one of Coach Day's biggest points, you know, controlling the middle eight. You control the middle eight, you like chances of you winning that game goes, you know, skyrockets. So definitely versus Tennessee, organ we give up touchdowns, you know, play in the second half. I mean, first half. But we, you know, we just got to keep our full on the gas. We can't let up like at all because these teams we're playing are great teams. Like Texas is a great team. You know, gray offense, gray offense in line, gray quarterback, great receivers, great running backs. So you know, we just got to just keep executing like we know we can. And you see how it plays out. Okay, final question for Tyler Lee here. Tim May, Letterman Rope.

Tell Lee, you know, Aaron Donnelly, you used to talk about everybody's hurting at this time of the year. But when the lights come on and the snap goes, what goes off in a guy like yours, mine? I mean, from the standpoint of making the play, I mean, can you explain that that people don't get to play down in the middle of it all? I would say, you know, like I said, you're right. Everybody has hurt around this time. You know, we're in, we're in, we're in 15th, 14th, you know, deep in the season. You know, you just got to, you just got to show up. That's my mind. So you just got to show up. No matter what I'm going through, I got to make that play. I got to be disruptive, you know, just to help my team out. Because when I'm on my A game, you know, everybody else can, you know, feed off of me or we can feed off for like, you know, JT Jack Ty. But I said, you know, Coach, make always says like, nobody cares. Like it's true. Nobody really cares if you're a hurried parent. You just got to go out there and play and make plays. Just a little bit. Explain the drive you have personally to get to through this next one into the next one.

But I know it's one step at a time, but you know, he came back, et cetera, explain people what's going on in your brain about your motivation. My motivation, you know, we all have our wise, you know, while we're doing things, you know, we have family, you know, family here, our team, our brotherhood. But, you just got to, you want to do, you write for your brothers, you know, on this team, you know, we're trying to win the big thing. We're not just, you know, trying to go win two games and lose. We're trying to win the big thing, you know, as long as we stay motivated, stay, you know, humble, don't like, you know, take the rap poisoning, you know, things like that and just execute and just play our hardest, you know, we'll be fine. Thank you very much. So that's the house of Spring, the big old Max who had been healthy? Yes, sir, I feel very healthy. Obviously coming off a season and ending injury last year, I feel really good, feeling better than ever to be honest, even better than I did before the season last year.

So it's been a great spring so far. How disappointing was it to be in your office at the great start last year? Yeah, I mean, it was, it was a hard time. I mean, it's definitely not easy going through any injury, especially during the season like that. But, you know, it builds character and I think it's good for me in the long term. Also built death for the time of the season. Oh, for sure. Yeah, saw some key pieces coming there and produced at a high level. What do you think, George? George is a stud. Once he gets healthy, he's going to be great. He's working really hard right now and he's going to, he's going to have a great season this year. Personally, how exciting is it for you to be kind of in your position now this year? Yeah, it's super exciting. You know, I got a lot better feel for the offense this year. Really good rapport with Hudson and it's been a fun spring so far. So just got to keep, keep carrying that on and see where it takes us. Obviously, when you're sideline, you're not playing how important is it to stay like mentally ready and mentally get those reps so that when you come into the spring, you can improve definitely.

I mean, that's all it is really just mentally envisioning the plays envisioning making the plays and every night, you know, I think about it probably every day. So it was it was a big part of it for sure for sure. How have you gotten better? I think just understanding the defenses and understanding where the quarterback wants me at a specific time and, you know, building that trust with him is huge and I think I've been doing a pretty good job of that. How does that relationship with you and Hudson developing the year to? Yeah, it's developing great. I mean, we have a great friendship off the field. So, you know, that helps a lot on the field as well. So we have a great connection, you know, both on and off the field and it only helps. So your brother's coming right? Yeah, yeah. So you'll be here in May. It'll be a lot of fun. It'll be a lot of fun having him up here. What do you mean to see a little team on the Saturday? I think just, you know, go out there and play hard, limit the mistakes and at the end of the day, it's just being consistent with what we do and playing hard.

So that's why I want to see for sure. You feel like everyone's more prepared for this spring game? Oh, for sure. I think we're way ahead of last year and I'm excited to see where it takes us. Anything on Diver or the freshman? Yeah, Drew Biver. Yeah, he's getting healthy now. He's looking great. He looked really healthy today. And I'm super excited to play with him. He's a lot of fun to play with. Just how quick is this turnaround? You guys just started practicing a couple of weeks ago and now you have a spring game to get to? It's pretty quick, but, you know, I like it. I like it a lot. So it's fun to get out there and play, you know, 11-V-11. Put the ball down and go. I mean, that's the goal. That's the goal every day. You know, that's what I'm reaching for. And whether I get it or not, who knows, but that's what I'm reaching for every day. There'd be a leader like how he is. I mean, he's just unbelievable leader and we all lean on him. You know, he runs his whole team and he knows that. We'll go as far as he goes. Jeremy Birmingham, the podcast.

We talked a little bit last week, just kind of you being becoming one of the emotional leaders of the team. And as you're ever walking off the field at halftime upon Wednesday, I have to be down there by the locker room. I was the only person to take photos of you guys down there. Which is weird. But everyone looks super fast. You were up 34 and 8. And it looked like you got to down by 26 points. Did you feel something different about the focus at that point of his team or is it just a bit of modernism? What's going on right now? It's just seemed different. I just think the job wasn't done. We were here nothing to be excited about at the moment. You know, we were excited during the game. We were making a plays. But at that time, at halftime, you go back to zero, zero. You just scored. They scored a thing in a half. We knew they got the ball back. The defense wasn't quite happy that they gave that touchdown at the end. We knew they get the ball back coming out. But we was excited because we knew the job wasn't done yet. Bill Rebellion, Columbus, this way.

You were a five star guy. And that coming up. All these guys in the room almost were five star guys. And then there's Jeremiah. Does he like all you guys in the room? I mean, I'm not sure if it's probably something you got to ask him. But you know, Jeremiah has played with a lot of great guys throughout his career. He's seen a lot of all the talent you can see in the world. But I don't know if he's ever in all. Oh, and I, oh, yeah. I mean, I'm not surprised at anything he does now. Like I've seen him just out. We were nine years old. So anything he does, anyone hand catch, I've seen. I'm not surprised at anything he does. When he was nine, do you know this is not a, this is something special we've been at nine? Oh, yeah. I mean, coaches were coming up to us complaining that we were nine years old. Like can we, can we get their IDs and stuff like that? So I mean, I mean, there's definitely some footage that we got to go find. But the place we used to make when we were younger and just to see where he is now is amazing.

And it seems very unaffected by all of the starter. How does that happen? I think how he was raised. He's very level headed. He knows his goals and what he wants to get done in life. And this is just one step of the way for him. Can I throw a back to Texas for a couple of questions on Zoom, Scotty? Yes, sir. We're going to start with Defond from Cleveland.com. Go ahead. Brandon, I want to go back to what you were talking about with Coach Day earlier. You know, whenever he talks about this team's success, he says all the credit goes through players that seems like the players think that he deserves some of the credit. How big, how influential has he been during the turnaround you guys have had these last few weeks? He's been huge, man. Coming here after that team with Northwest, he knows heart breaking, of course. We came in here. We had a leadership meeting. He was in here. And then we had a team meeting after that. Hearing the stuff he had to say. We had to say going back and forth. We just, we knew we would have his back no matter what.

There's a lot of stuff set about him and his family and stuff like that. But here we're a brotherhood and we're a family. And we go stand by him no matter what. Our next question is going to come from Dan. Hope Dan go ahead. Brandon, I mean, I'm sure you came in here to Ohio State thinking you'd probably be starting here in your second year. But it seems like you really embraced the growth process. Just what's kind of that process been like for you of kind of embracing your role this season and continuing to develop? Yeah. Life things doesn't go the way you exactly planted to. And that just happened, you know, things happened to Mecca last year that allowed him to come back. And that allowed me to learn more. And that's just how I see it makes me a better football player for the future. So yeah, I mean, yeah, let's see that. Three more on Zoom. Next one's going to come from Stefan Means.

Go ahead. Yeah, you're good. But Brandon, there are a lot of clips of you this year where you're super, super excited after a block. And kind of showing your emotion there. What about blocking do you love so much as a receiver? Just being able to hit another guy with all my power, the hardest I can without any get any consequences. Except if you accept the few hold, of course, but yeah, just bringing that power. I mean, I heard some of the defensive guys telling me yesterday they were like, bro, I hate to go against you. So knowing that from the defensive guys. So I know what the other defensive guys are thinking like, just keep bringing it to them. They're not going to like it for four quarters. That's my mindset. Next question's going to come from Danny Davis. Danny, go ahead. Brandon, what are your impressions of these Texas defensive backs and this kind of we've seen from them on film stuff?

Yeah, the last couple of days we watched them, they're fast team. They don't give up many big plays down field. They're aggressive, but I actually know some of the DBs they have at corner there. I play with them. Well, I played with Mollie Muhammad at SFE. So I might know him a little bit. We have a watching them, they're fast team, they're physical, they're disciplined, but we just got to get the job done. Give any Malik stories or any any. What do you say? Give any Malik stories or anything you remember about playing with them? Yeah, but I'm not going to say them here. Yeah, we'll just keep that. Our final question's going to come from Kurt Bolz. Kurt, go ahead. Hey, Brandon, one of the issues Texas has had the second half of the year is finishing. And what if you can speak to, and they had a trouble obviously in the peach bowl, you know, blew a 16 point leak?

And you talk about finishing and having a killer instinct and you guys obviously seem to have that now. Yeah, I think that started in offseason training at Fall Camp. We always say go plus two. If you're doing a 10 yard pro shuttle, you have to go plus two throughout the line. And that's just finishing up as well. And then Fall Camp, we had these long two and a half hour practices or whatnot. And then we came out and we had to do these finishers. We called them ask for games late in the year like this. And I think Coach Day has a great, did a great job preparing all of us for these moments. And yeah, we just were ready to go. We have time for just a couple more questions and clumpets so we can wrap up with our other two guys. Bill Landis, Kings of the North. Brandon, try to be on the second touchdown run. It seemed like you took two players out of the play first with your release and then with the guy you actually blocked. Is that how it's designed? Or was it just lucky to get the guy decided to take off inside of the release?

It's actually designed for me to block the safety and lead the corner 101 with the running back. But I was surprised that the corner actually came in so far in my release. I think he thought it was a pass. But I think he was the edge of the defense if you go watch that play. But I don't really know why he came in so far. But it helped out for us and I made my block and turned off score. Is there any lesson there for like, even a young receiver watching that, that even if you know on the play, you're not getting the ball, you're intended to block. But you release has to be at all point as if you're going to go pitch pass. Yeah, definitely. Every little detail matters and then type of plays. We were in a red zone there. So we say every yard matters, it's two yards. So the block I made is just a testament to Kyle. Coach Hartline prepped me throughout the week to make that block. And final question. Joy Conner and Columbus this match. Brandon Will and this has been one of the ball deep well lately. And some of the special ways you guys have opened games. What do you think is his click for you guys and for him and watching those plays?

A lot more confidence. I say throughout the year. We were always there as offense. We had we didn't know we didn't quite know our identity. And now slowly but surely I think we found that and we're going to keep on rolling. And he's made some great throws and. Yeah. I'm sorry. Brandon, I do have one more. Steve, that way you do 24-7s for. Brandon, there've been opportunities for you to play a huge role on offense. And you know the number plays you play in game can differ from one week to the next. But the opportunity is coming sooner rather than later for you to be in every down player. Just what are the things you need to do in your game to take it to where it is now to be in every down guy? I think there's a lot of things I could work on in my game. I would say continuing to be football smart by IQ. Just knowing what the defense is going to do before they do it. About routes always can get better. My hands always can get better staying on the jug machine.

Work ethic, keep on top of it. Don't get satisfied with anything I do. And don't get too big, don't get too low, don't get too high, don't get too low. It's what they say. You feel like a guy that the people follow, it seems like. In your mind, even the second you're guy that you're kind of working toward being kind of a leadership type guy. I got to have guys that will take that role. It's a great feeling, of course. No guys are watching what you do and listening to what you do. But we do that with a lot of players here and not just myself. But the leadership we have on this team is like no other. And that's why we got so far, I think. Brandon, thank you very much. What's it to you about the possibility of going into this season? You and you, you just can't love six. I mean, it means that they can happen really soon. I must have to learn right now, but I love your sitting here. Because it seemed like it's a big big club.

I mean, how would you describe anywhere? I mean, I guess you just got to learn everything slowly. Of course, there's a lot to learn. But I got a lot of hope. You guys had a very unique experience all the early and early. You got a chance to go to semi-final. Some of you went to the Rose Bowl. There's nothing called a national championship game. What was that like? How much do you think that helped you? That was a critical. We just see how other leaders led in that position and just seeing what they did and how they prepared. That's going to help you out with everybody. What was the highlight of that time? Other than winning the national championship, is there something that stands out to you? Just being able to travel and get the meet-up. Everybody, meet all the players. Everybody I won in that. And meet all the early and early. It's been a difficult part of you thinking of making the transition from Liza to the Blue Bowl. What has been the difference in the hard spot? I was really just living on your own. You've got to be independent. That's pretty much it, though. And you feel comfortable in that, or you're still trying to get yourself in this college?

I mean, of course, there's adjustment, but I'm getting it just for you. How long do you think you're going to be doing this? I'm going to be doing it. Yes, your money is 100%. You don't have to answer your dirty thing. I'm just going to be doing it. It's hard to hold a business on your gear. Of course, I was always missing a year. I was last year kind of with some of my best friends. What did you do to me? I think you did my hand right. It was an empty vehicle. Sorry to the staff, sorry, but how long did you get to get here? When you were serving in college? I was a baby in my dad's. I got him a monster partner. Like, once I was born. Like, once I was born in a family. Why did they make that? My dad looked up to me and I'm a junior, so I swear to God. I think you should hear first name in the car, right?

Yeah. Okay, so you could wear eight, too. You're not wearing a third in the car. Yeah, I mean, you got two choices. It's a desire that can be addicted to people. I fell into that, no younger age, but super class. That's not who I am. Did you get it? I watched the lab last time I started a land band on the plane. I downloaded it, it's a pretty good show. What do you think of it? I don't know that. His wife seems a little like older. I don't know how he handles it. It's a good show, bro. The viewer seems to be coming on the come-up. All right. I'm excited to see how it goes. Oh, I thought he did a good job. I'm surprised, honestly. He seemed like he knew what he was doing for a period of time.

So you put your question. You say you hit your mom in the salary. You guess you win it all because your mom is going to pay the raise or... I don't know what to talk about that. Just sure you'll have a meeting or something. The good thing? I'll figure it out. Everybody should have a meeting about me. How much would you think about the law? I think that would be a really good show. I'm just going to get to interview with another people. That's my fine wife about you. Yeah, well, let me first off, I think I'd be doing this service to my teammates. You know, me even think about what's next. You know, what's right in front of us is an over-hander. And that's another thing I've got to tell me. So much grew is just being present in every single moment that I'm in. You know, not looking too far ahead because I'm tripping on what's right in front of me. So again, that's too soft. We shouldn't have thanked you for meeting me.

You think about what's next. You're at least aware that there's a lot of speculation out there that people are going to throw a huge number of people going forward all this season. I mean, right now I'm just not worried about all that stuff. People can say all they want to say, but you know, I'm just focused on. I'm just not worried about this. But it's a lot of fun. Nervous? I mean, I still get nervous for sure, but I just don't think. I think I do have to help just understanding that. That moment, whatever moment it is that I'm nervous about, it doesn't define who I am as a person. And it doesn't define who I am and God's eyes. And understanding and knowing that has just kind of put this force field of peace around me that I think it allows me to be able to be calm in certain situations. But it doesn't, that's not good. What makes you nervous?

I just love the game so much. And if you don't get nervous or a little bit of work, this is how I think you have that same love. I mean, I've got butterflies since, you know, going into football games since I was, you know, five, six years old. So I don't know if that feels as cool as I was. I didn't, I don't know. You know, football just doesn't mean as much as it did to me back then. I want to tell always me that much. I've been told a bit. I think so. I'm going to have to stay down. I'm going to be playing as much. So I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt. So I can bring younger guys with me because I've been through a lot of it. One of those younger guys, we're seeing it out here. It's the first time I've heard all these last years. What have you seen from Will? Because I kind of felt like last year, we all forgot about it because he was hurt. I felt he's running, you know, almost a second man up behind you and Ty.

What have you seen from that experience? Well, as a workhorse, he goes, stay quiet. He's going to work hard. And that's what I love about him. He focuses. He don't really talk much. He's just going to get a job done, do a job right. He rarely has any mistakes. What would be a successful season? A national championship. A ring. When all the games we don't want to lose anything, we got a mindset that we can't be beat. And we just got to go show it. It's like, is that mindset different? It seems like you guys expect the national championship every year. This year, even more so, you guys have all come back for this. You guys have all decided that nothing is up. Does that just keep feeling different? Or is there not really any difference? It's just the same work. It's definitely a difference. Everyone working harder. We noticed our last run. Most of us don't have any years after this. So we got to go bigger, go home, and we're not trying to go home. Finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan. But when you look at what they did, they won the national championship. And you guys took them down to the final minute.

Right? You know what I mean? You were right there. Something goes a little different. You guys could have won that game against them. Does that tell you anything about like that, hey, you guys want to win a national championship? But you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year. Like you're that close. So I'm saying we just like work harder. That's kind of coach makes a saying, you know, nobody cares. Just work harder. Like those, you know, when we played Georgia, it's the same thing. Yeah. Last, last play, you know, they went on the win in 90. So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles. Of course, it's frustrating. But you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on it. You just got to, you know, come back and work harder. Do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older, you kind of learn. I thought I was working hard and you always find out there's a little more than you could have been doing. Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college.

I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could, but not a little back at it. I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything. I mean, it's just, I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder in shape. It's been a thing. The idea of the potential to stick to the 70s and 70s. Side to about that idea is making it nervous about can you last that long? I think I'm going to pull that up. I think I definitely can last. You know, we got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies. Just everybody. Like online, D-line, we got to get those younger guys to play. Get that pieces on the D-line and O-line and everywhere else.

So we can last that long. Speaking of that, let's play in the golf. Did you like playing that new snap to me last year because I don't know if any of us were really expected to play that next time? Yeah, I did. Unless we were like winning by like a lot. I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something. But we're playing them big games like, you know, Notre Dame too or North, those kind of games. Of course I want to be because I know I can contribute. And I won't put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got a kick. Have you guys a little second here? Oh yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal. You haven't really seen it yet, but in practice he shows all the time. He's just, he's growing right now. He has to work at the, he just has to get, you know, in the playbook and things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen, you're both listening to 6-3, you're 3-27, he's 3-26. Yeah, I kind of look at him like my junior, but you know K-Mac, he's going to be a great player. He's just got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you older guys, there's that large group of young guys and then there's these seniors in the back.

Is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well? Yeah, definitely. We got to be leaders. Like I said, we got to have them play this year. We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work. And we got to get them right, burn the offseason so they can play. And I just played, I want to like contribute, like make plays, tackle, and sex. It's a state that I don't know about this version. It seems like these guys get big things. Each one of the first-minute classes is a little bigger or bigger. Do those guys kind of, those are going to kind of while you want to solve the first? Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes. And they all work hard. I'm really seeing much of some of the day too when I'm not passing on. But throughout the workouts, they've been working hard, you know, they're determined. I have to say that. And it looks like they're ready to work at me. How important this is. It feels like there's a lot of great defense that you have big athletic defense attackers who can eat up space, but also move, you know, right? Did it happen? Does that have an environment maybe for great defense?

To have guys like you that have some balls, but also a great team? I think that is definitely. I think if you look at the last couple of national championship winners, like, see my North, they got two good, uh, detaco, two athletic detaco. Look at Georgia. Two athletic detacters. I think that's definitely need if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. If you think about this, if there was a fight by the defense attackers, like, what's Georgia? Jordan Davis and Daniel Carter. Let's miss again. It's Chris Jenkins. Couple more questions. You might be wondering like how, I mean, you understand it because you play it. But I feel like some time, I don't know, are people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to? I think so. I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakish detacters. Yeah. Like in the combine, just now, you see in like those guys, they're moving forward to 478 and things like that. So we'll see. And when you think about this freakish attack, how do you think you fit into that bowl of that kind of player?

You watch that and say, yeah, that's me. Yeah, definitely. I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacters, but I don't want to, you know, get a big head, but you know, watch it come on. I watch it do the drills. I have a tape here. You're like, you're looking like my film. So I think I'm up there with all those times. Do you become like an artist who comes to the bad end of passes the figure wags have your things? I mean, you're going to say Frank Bragg's, you're not doing it as much a weapon on a weapon. That's the thing. How do you work on that? Do you have like a goal or mine? I don't remember how many I've last year. Do you have a goal or mine? How many do you want to have? I mean, as many as I can have, I think I have more than that, but I think they've counted. I think they've counted some of them and some of them were like just missed it. So, but I think we work on drills matching the hand. I think that's, uh, goes big and, uh, what we do is a D line, you know, just affecting the quarter of that. It's, anyway, you can. It's just great for the defense. You know, it's just that little thing covered as I, you know, he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player. So, so it's something that you really, really have to work on.

It's really, that's one of the things that you've maybe worked on the most. You've talked about the good thing at your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen, like, Oh, that pass really takes a lot of time. We don't have to ask this style. We kind of kind of expect it for the people. I think I just have like a, like, a eye for the ball, kind of, I kind of just look at the quarterback and just, I see him like, load up. I just try to get in his way and sometimes he just throws it to me. I don't know. I hear it's a deal out to the Ohio State quarterbacks. Get in your back down passes. I mean, they get frustrated by, you know, we're a team, you know, we're just getting better. Yeah, watch a lot of, a lot of different backs, man. They just learn and grow for them. You got to pick your top three backs and get them all right now. One, two, three. Uh, I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you, I'll give you one. I would say, say, Juan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey. Auto, he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey.

Who's the best back in this draft? Best back in this draft. I lead out of the yard. That's y'all decision. Playing with Will Howard, what I'm going to remember most. Uh, we're a Howard, man. He's just such a great lead, such a great leader, man. It's like in moments where, you know, usually a lot of players they fold, man. He was just always calm and relaxed, man. And he just deleted that he was, man. That's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Yeah, he's, he's going to be really good, man. He's, um, Coach Lock. I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia. Just that one, two punch with them both as well. They're going to be really good backs. And so James people's man, he's smart. The way that he goes about his business, man. He's mature. And so man, he's growing, you know, just as a person in as a player. And so man, yeah, definitely Ohio State, you know, that running back room is in great hands. Yeah, um, coach Coach Hartline, man.

He's full of energy, man. And he's creative as well, you know, I'm just learning from him as well. You know, I'm trying to run more outside the backfield. It was being able to learn from Coach Hartline. And so he's definitely creative at what he does. And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so I think they'll do really good. Just intensity, man. And since he got the playoffs, every game, man, is like the intensity got, you know, higher and higher. And so, you know, being able, I know in the lead, it's the same thing. Even if it's not the playoffs, just every, every game and intensity, it keeps getting higher and higher. And so, yeah, you just, I know you got to bring it, you know, each and every day and come in and work. And just like Ohio State, you know, I definitely feel like Ohio State, they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that. You know, I just remember even before going through this process, I'll talk to a lot of players before then. And they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know, for the NFL. And so, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. I know I took a couple of days off after the National Championship. And then, shoot, right after that, I'm writing sample Florida and I'm right to it. And so, yeah, I think while I trained, I trained at YoMurf Performance. I think it's called the House of Athlete or the Compound now. They did a good job, man. They're just bringing us in and the way they went about training us, man. They did a really good job. I mean, that was a cool year. The Bucking Nears. No, I haven't. We think it's a city, Tampa. Tampa, Tampa, nice. It's a nice city, man. Really nice. It's a 40 to broad and avert. You've been on races and awesome lockers. You've been here with your mentality of like when you've got a linebacker, so you're in the shaft. You're in the shaft. Yeah. Yeah, no, man. It's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well.

And so, I say, you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of Will Howard. It's for the love of the receiver. It's who I got on the perimeter. Just making sure, you know, first of all, my quarterback doesn't get sacked. And I told Will, I think it was before the first game. I was like, I got your brother. I said, man, I'm not going to let you get hit. You know, and so I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack. I'm not sure that, but I know if I did, I haven't given up too many. And so, man, it's for the love of my brother's, though, man, making sure the ball get in their hands, you know, the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed. You had to hit the practice field later today. What is something you can work on right now when you need to? In my game. You can't really work on this, you know, in all season, I feel like it's more so, you know, you got to put the pads on. You've got to go through some inside run, you know, maybe. It's really just continuing to run through tackles. And so that's, I feel like that's one of the areas in my game. You know, I want to continue to get better. I feel like I did a good job of that in my senior year. And so I just want to continue to build on that. So you get what I was saying?

Yes, I did. Yes, I did. So people trained, you look like a lot of people are out there. You get back in nursing. You have been back with people around. I did meet with New Orleans as well. I never got that comparison. Actually, I know I have a Camera. Sure, yeah, man, I have a Camera. Great, great back, man. Just what he does and those 101 matchups, he's dangerous, man. And he's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not going to lie. He's smooth. Yeah. Inside zone from stack, being able to hit that thing downhill. And I'll say the next one is probably just an option out of the backfield. And man coverage, you're getting on that line backer. And so. Yeah, I say the man, the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself, man.

And the way that man, he approaches the game. He comes in with the mindset, he's going to work every single week. You know, every practice, he's working hard. Even shoot, I don't know, every game was a good game for him, man. But still, man, he always has the mentality to mindset that, you know, he's going to come in each and every day. He's going to continue to work and get better, man. And so he's definitely, man, he's going to be a special player, man. He really is. Man, a lot of ups and downs, man, it's just how you respond to adversity. And I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better. Is this, I'm not having something to lean on now. You know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity, I had nothing to run to. You know, you can run to people, but they still can't, it's not too much. They can't truly help you. You know, I feel like, you know, I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ.

And so being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you, in those moments where it's tough, you know, where it's slow. And when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about, he gives you that peace and comfort. You know, even in those moments, man, where it's so hard that you can't explain. It's like, man, I'm going through this, but like, how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you. So, which aspect could be to those other individuals that you want to follow and be around power and peace? Um, man, those guys have such a great mentality, man. Am I just really loved their mentality, especially Q as well. You know, I talked about Will Howard, his leadership, but Quenchon mentality, man. That boy just gifted, you know, you see, you know, sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like, you know, he should have a negative five yards.

And as soon as you know it, you know, he, that running through somebody, still farming somebody and shooting this again to 10. And so, you know, I think, yeah, man, I think it's just like, he's just gifted, man, to be honest. He's gifted, you know, he's, he's a big back. You know, he's strong. And so, you know, he's able to do, he's able to do those things. And so, yeah, man, it's definitely, you know, I look at his game and I want to, you know, at the same time, I want to learn from Quenchon. You know, I want to look at this game and it's like, man, where, where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better, man. I'm always looking to grow as a player. What's your last one to be in San? Oh, yeah, he's going to be a great, but he's going to be a great quarterback, man. He's so, so accurate. And so, he's definitely, man, I know Coach Dez is definitely going to get him right. Just, you know, continuing to grow as a leader, continuing to grow as a player. And so, he's going to be really good for a high state. I know just the quarterback position. I feel like, you know, the quarterbacks in the past, they've, they've definitely been vocal.

And so, I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to ask of Julian San as well. It's to be that vocal leader and lead the, and lead the offense and lead the team. Thanks, Drake. Shoot, man, he has, he has a build like JK Dobbins. And I kind of see them, you know, similar, similarities in their game as well. And I know JK Dobbins, he was a great running back. I feel like he's not talked about his none. A lot, but man, his career here, you watch his highlights is great. I remember before I recruit, before I committed here, I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every, every one of his years here, like four or five times. And so, man, he was such a great back. And I feel like, you know, when I see JK Dobbins, when I see James people, I see similarities to both of their games. I feel like they play the same. Appreciate you all. Yeah, I'll be going. Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All I got coming in last round, I knew the role. So I just attacked Eric Dave, really the same way. It's a very, very, very physically different. Are you weight wise, body wise on that from the year? I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240, you know, like 244 right now. Last year, I played it like 236 to 37. What does it feel like at 244 or better? You feel like almost a different machine out there. Yeah, like what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are with more, more back? I just feel like I'm like like like more downhill, like stronger.

Like I'm taking all the bloods better. It's a big, yeah. Is it daunting? Maybe that's not the correct term, but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year. And you played quite a bit last year instead. What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? I just got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps. But how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8-stand point? I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. The text is open, it's a rematch. But it's not really two different teams compared to last time you all played and stuff. How has that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah, with an opener like that, we've been emphasizing it a lot. We know we got coming, so we know we got to do, we've been prepared for it. I think Riley ready to play right now. He advanced freshman, he ended up here in the book, he stood in like he advanced.

And his measurements was crazy. He saw it like a saw line too. Or you said you're ready. What was that process like during last season? Could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready for whatever the team needed from you? Yeah, because that's pretty much what my role was. Just whenever I was needed, I had to step up. So I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year. When you say ready, is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing? When I say ready, I think it's pretty much like everything physically, mentally, emotionally. I think I'm there. A different piece of that feeling this year is the end of last season. That's the last thing that's been happening. I asked the one more time. How different is that response bill? That's just the emotional stuff all that. When it was last year, you knew you were a homemaker. I feel like it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year. But I kind of go about it the same way.

Like last year, I was intentional with everything I did. I feel like this year is going to be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more. Some reason I was saying this is how it used to be today. And what work? How's everybody working? I say... Scrabbing. Now I say, like when you think of me, you would think of like a bully, like a silver bully. I don't really a bully. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play and think. You know what I'm gonna bodyguards? No, I ain't got to be my nickname, but... I'm not saying that the... Oh yeah, yeah. You want to bodyguards? Yeah, that's like... How does that fit you? And what are you going to show me about bullying in that kind of second? I think it fit me because... I don't know, I just like the defense. I feel like we got... Like you said, we got a lot of freedom and we're moving around a lot... A lot of the times just like...

No, I don't know, I don't really not answer that. That's okay, does it? You can still go on your instincts. A little bit more, maybe. And it's not so thinking of too much. I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like... I just like it's defense. I like how it's pretty defense. I like what you got going on. Uh... Now I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy for you. Want to listen to that? No. No, no, that's my dog. I'm kind of missing a little bit, but I'm happy for you. I felt like, go ahead one last question. Coach Daze talked a lot about the guys who played some last year, but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for... That wasn't maybe your national championship you guys were going to win your own. How much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year, but will be in this bigger role and a lot of some of your classmates? Yeah, I do feel like... Yeah, I do feel like... I did win a national championship, but like you said, my role wasn't the same as how it's going to be this year.

So yeah, I definitely want to go get another one experienced that, like, feeling maybe on the field, a lot more place. Sorry. Great. Oh, Bill, thank you very much. Thanks for having me. Thanks for having me. I'm sure they've been using you, you know, in that almost at safety role of stuff. I've been using a lot of checks. I listen to them. Whatever they need, if I need to cover somebody, I'll go cover anybody. If they need me to do run support, I'll do run support. And it's really what Caleb does, what we do, and Nathan. It just goes back to Coach G's preparation and everyone's preparation to give us more flexibility and doesn't matter who's in those positions. And we can all play every position whether it's covering somebody or running and tackling. Or the Oregon game, you're saying what I'm saying? Is that something that's been added? It just, you know, rely on a little bit more. Go ahead. Yeah, it did. I've probably been a Brasco game, a Megan and more safety reps.

And we had a five week to prepare. So I really learned to play, but a lot more, even though I knew the play, but I learned a lot more. Like, in debt, you know, so really just after the Oregon game, it helped me a lot to go back to safety, go to Neku everywhere. Thanks, man. You guys had a lot of issues of giving up big plays in the passing game of the first game against Oregon. What do you feel if you guys need to do better just top around to make sure that doesn't happen? Just the same mindset. We got to challenge these receivers. You know, every dog has their day. Maybe some people didn't have their day that game, but we'll look out there and hopefully change the narrative. And we still play with the same confidence, same technique. And, yeah. Bill Rebellion, what's the longest this patch? And Denzel obviously had a tough game. And that one, what have you seen from him and how he's responded? Do you get a sense of from him? How he is for this rematch? Oh, yeah, he's super stoked for this rematch.

His preparation has been very good. He's always been preparing, even though it didn't go the way he wanted to go that game. But he just always had his confidence. And we're going to see a big game out of him this week. And, you know, I know you guys wanted to play them in anapolis. But the fact that you get to play them at the Rose Bowl, I mean, get a second chance. And people have said, you don't get that very often. How determined are you guys to take advantage of it? We're super, super determined. We watched film. I mean, we've watched a lot of film. The first time we played them, now we've got another six games that they played of film to watch. And it's just, they've grown a lot as a team. Same as us. We've grown a lot. We're not the same team. We were when we played them week one or weeks, weeks, weeks or whatever. But now we're out there and going to play thighs, physical and everything like that. All right, Jordan, we're going to jump to the Zoom question here from Joey Kaufman. Columbus Dispatch. Oh, my bad. Not too joy. Cameron T. Robinson, the athletic.

Hey, Jordan, you've moved around a lot in the second day in your career. And now kind of getting some many more safety reps. What is it like at this point when Walt or Coach Mills comes to you and asks you to do some else? And just how much can you lean on the experiences you've had moving around when you're trying to learn something new in the middle of the season? It means a lot. We always talk about this is if it's being on selfish, whether that's making plays or not making plays or doing your job so another person can make plays. That's kind of what we pride ourselves on. And it's just fun. We've moved around different positions. I'm always up for a new challenge. And a lot of people in the country can't do that. I just hold myself to that standard where I can play any position and excel at it. Okay. If anybody else needs a question, let me know. But otherwise we're going to go to Austin more of the podcast. Jordan, when you were talking about watching film Oregon, which one do you think is more valuable to you watching that against yourself?

Seven games ago, even if you've changed or the ensuing six games for Oregon, which one do you put more stock in? Kind of both. For me, I kind of watch what I did, things I did well, things I didn't do too well against them. And their team is changing, their scheme has changed. Some players have been out those stretch of games. So I really watched the past game we played. And I know they're going to go back to some of the stuff that they liked, of course. And different games like Penn State, maybe Illinois, they run a lot of men. So just watching, watching stuff like that, every game matters. So yeah. Jordan, thank you very much. Thank you. We plan as much. So I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt. So I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been doing it. One of those younger guys, we're seeing it out here. It's the first time in the score of all years, actually. What have you seen from well? I don't know, I've never seen a real footballer out of that because he was hurt. Now he's running almost a second man out behind the table.

Ty, what have you seen from that? Well, it was a workhorse. He's going to stay quiet, he's going to work hard. And that's what I love about him. He focuses, he don't really talk much. He's going to get the job done, do a job right. He rarely has any mistakes. What would be a successful season? A national championship. I'm reading when all the games we want to lose into thing. We got a mindset that we can't beat. And we just got to go show it. That mindset different. It seems like you guys expect a national championship every year. This year even more so. You guys all come back for this. You guys have all decided like that. That's a lot. Does that keep feeling different? Or is there not really any difference? It's just the same part. It's definitely a difference. Everyone working harder. We noticed our last run. Most of us don't have any years after this. So we got to go bigger, go home and try to go home. Finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan. But when you look at what they did, they won the national championship. And you guys took them down to the final minute.

Right? You know what I mean? You were right there. Something goes a little different. You guys could have won that game against them. Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey, you guys want to win a national championship. But you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship. Last year, you're that close. So I'm saying we just work harder. That's kind of a coach makes a saying. You know, nobody cares. Work harder. Like those, you know, one plate Georgia is the same thing. Last, last play. You know, they went on the win in the 90s. So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles. Of course, you know, it's frustrating. But you can't change the outcome. You can't really do it on it. You just got to, you know, come back and work harder. Do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older, you can learn. I thought that was working hard and you always find out there's a little more you could have been doing? Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college.

I thought, freshman year, I was working as hard as I could. But now I look back at it. I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything. If the stamina is 60, then they have to be like, what do you need it to be to be your best? Uh, 80, 85. I mean, I can, it's all on me. I just, I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder. Get the shape. The idea of the potential to succeed in a seven year season. I think I'm going to throw that out there. I think I definitely can last. I was just, you know, we got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies. Just everybody like online, D line. We got to get those younger guys to play and you know, get that pieces on the D line and the online and everywhere else. So we can last that long. Speaking of the top line, if you like playing that movie, snap to me last year because I don't know if any of us were really expected to be like that next time.

Uh, yeah, I did. Unless we were like winning by like a lot. Uh, I thought like there are no moments you might go sit down or something. But we're playing them big games like, you know, Notre Dame, too, or North, those kind of games. Of course, I want to be because I know I can contribute. I don't know if you're going to be able to do that. I don't know if any of us were really expected to be like that next time. Uh, yeah, I did. Unless we were like winning by like a lot. Uh, I thought like there are no moments you might not can go sit down or something. I can contribute. And I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got a key. I'm guessing the second. Oh, yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal. You haven't really seen it yet, but in practice, he shows all the time. He's just, he's grown right now. He has to work ethic. He just has to get, you know, in the playbook, things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen, you're both listening to 630, you're 327, he's 326. Yeah, he's a real guy. I kind of look at him like my junior, but you know, K-Mac, he's going to be a great player. He's got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you older guys. There's a large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in the back.

Is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well? Yeah, definitely. We got to be leaders. Like I said, we got to have them play this year. We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work. And we got to get them right, burn the all season. So they can play. And I just played, they want to like contribute, like make plays, tackle sex. It's a state that I work with especially. It seems like these guys get big. Each one of the freshmen class is going to be bigger or bigger. Do those guys kind of, those are going to kind of while you want to solve the first? Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes. And they all work hard. I've only seen much of some lead day two when I got past one. But throughout the workouts, they even work hard. You know, they're determined. I have to say that. And it looks like they're ready to work at me. How important is this? It feels like there's a lot of great defenses that you have big, athletic defense attacks who can eat up space, but also move, you know, right? Did that, is that an inquire maybe for a great defense?

To have guys like you that have some balls, but also a great feeling? I think that is definitely, I think if you look at the last couple of national champions and the winners, like Team up North, they got two good, two athletic detacles. Look at Georgia, two athletic detacles. I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. If you think about this, they're almost defined by the defense attack. It's like, what's Georgia, Jordan Davis and Daniel Carter? Let's miss you again. It's Chris Jenkins. Tell us more questions. You might be wondering how, I mean, you understand this because you play it. I don't know, are people realizing how important defense tackles are? A little bit more than they used to? I think so. I think they're starting to develop more and more of these like freakiest detacles. Yeah. Like in the combine, just now, you see in like those guys, they're moving four to four, seven, eights and things like that. And when you think about those freakish attack attacks, how do you think you fit into that bowl of that kind of player?

You watch that and say, yeah, that's me. Yeah, definitely. I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacles, but I don't want to get a big head, but you know, I watch the come on. I watch the dude do the drills. I have tape here. You're like, you're looking like my film. So I think I'm going to do it all the time. Tyler, can you become like a artist who comes to batting up passes the figure wags and your things? When you're going to spring practice, you're not doing as much a weapon of a weapon. Do you have like a gold one, my? I don't remember how much I've lost you. You have a gold one, my 35. How many do you want to have? I mean as many as I can have, I think I have more than that, but they made it counseling. I think they didn't count some of them and it's some of them where I like just missed it. So, but I think we work on drills matching the hand. I think that's goes big and what we do is a D line, you know, just affecting the quarter of that is. Any way you can is just great for the defense. You know, just that little thing covering his eye, you know, he might throw it. A little bit to the left to our player.

So, it's something that you really, really have to work on. It's one of the things that you can maybe work on the most during your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen. Like, oh, that passes. We don't have that. We're kind of kind of expected. I think I just have like an eye for the ball kind of. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just, I see him like load up. I just try to get in his way and sometimes he's throws it to me. I don't know. I hear it's easier to do it to the Ohio State quarterbacks. You know, you're a bad dumb fastest. I mean, they get frustrated by, you know, we're a team, you know, we're just getting better. I've got a lot of different backs, man. They just learn to grow for them. You got to pick your top three backs and get it all right now. One, two, three. I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you one. I would say, say, Juan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey. Auto, he was injured this year.

I like McCaffrey. Best back in this draft. I lead out of the yard. That's y'all decision. Playing well with Howard. What I'm going to remember most. We're a Howard, man. He's just such a great leader. Such a great leader, man. It's just like in moments where, you know, usually a lot of players they fold, man. He was just always calm and relaxed, man. He just the leader that he was, man. That's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Yeah, he's shoot. He's going to be really good, man. He's on Coach Lock. I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia. Just that one, two punch with them both as well. They're going to be really good backs. And so James people's, man, he's smart. The way that he goes about his business, man. He's mature. And so, man, he's growing, you know, just as a person and as a player. And so, man, yeah, definitely Ohio State. You know, that running back room is in great hands. I was right there. I'm looking at the UFC spot and put on this top of the face, and personality, and the coach.

I'll keep that up until they're the same. Yeah. Coach Hartline, man. He's full of energy, man. And he's creative as well. You know, I'm just learning from him as well. You know, trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from Coach Hartline. And so, he's definitely creative at what he does. And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so, I think that would do really good. Straight away, and you're going to play off run. I can wait. That's what my strength is. Just intensity, man. And since he got the playoffs, every game, man, is like the intensity got, you know, higher and higher. And so, you know, being able, I know in the lead, it's the same thing. Even if it's not the playoffs, just every game and intensity, it keeps getting higher and higher. And so, yeah, you just, I know you got to bring it, you know, each and every day, and come in and work. Just like Ohio State. You know, I definitely feel like Ohio State. They definitely do a good job of preparing us for that. You know, I just remember, even before going through this process, I'll talk to a lot of players before that.

I mean, that was a good idea. The bucking nears. No, I haven't. We think it's City Tampa. Tampa, Tampa. Nice. It's a nice city, man. Really nice. It's a pretty good city. The 40, the broad and the vert. You've been on the races. It's an awesome locker. You need to be here with your mentality of like, when you've got a linebacker, you're getting ready to score a number of goals. Yeah. Yeah. No, man.

It's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well. And so, I say, you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of Will Howard. It's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter. Just making sure, you know, first of all, my quarterback doesn't get sacked. And I told Will, I think it was before the first game. I was like, I got your brother. It's, I said, man, I'm not going to let you get hit. You know, and so, I don't know if I gave up a sack. I'm not sure that, but I know if I did, I haven't given up too many. And so, man, it's for the love of my brother's, though, man, making sure that the ball get in their hands, you know, the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed. You had to hit the practice field later today. What is something you've been working on right now when you need to? In my game. You can't really work on this, you know, in all season, I feel like. It's more so, you know, you got to put the pads on. You got to go through some inside run, you know, maybe. It's really just continuing to run through tackles. And so, that's, I feel like that's one of the areas in my game. You know, I want to continue to get better. I feel like I did a good job of that in my senior year.

And so, I just want to continue to build on that. So, you know what I'm saying? Yes, I did. Yes, I did. So, people, you look like now, let's bar out there. You get back in person. You said you met with a new Orleans. I did meet with New Orleans as well. I never got that comparison. Actually, I know I have a Camera. Sure, yeah, man, I have a Camera great, great back, man. Just what he does and those 101 matchups, he's dangerous, man. And he's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not going to lie, he's smooth. Yeah. Inside zone from stack, being able to hit that thing downhill. And I'll say the next one is probably just an option out of the backfield. You know, and man and man coverage, you're getting on that linebacker. And so. Yeah, I say the man, the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself, man.

And the way that man, he approaches the game. He comes in with the mindset, you know, he's going to work every single week. You know, every practice, you know, he's working hard, you know, even shoot it. I don't know, every good, I think he had it. Every game was a good game for him, man. And so, but still, man, he always has the mentality to mindset that, you know, he's going to come in each and every day. He's going to continue to work and get better, man. And so he's definitely, man, he's going to be a special player, man. He really is. Man, a lot of ups and downs, man, it's just how you respond to adversity. And I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better. It's just, I'm not have something to lean on now. You know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity, I had nothing to run to. You know, you can run to people, but they still can't. It's not too much, they can't truly help you. You know, I feel like, you know, I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ. And so, being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you, in those moments, where it's tough, you know, where it's slow.

And when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about, he gives you that peace and comfort. You know, even in those moments, man, where it's so hard that you can't explain. You can't explain. It's like, man, I'm going through this, but like, how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so, that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you. And so, you know, the fact that for a person's power and judgment is extremely effective, which aspect of each of those other individuals that you want to follow and from being around power to Him? Man, those guys have such a great mentality, man. Am I just really loved their mentality, especially Q as well. You know, I talked about Wil Howard, his leadership, but Quincham mentality, man. That boy just, yeah, that boy just gifted. You know, you see, you know, sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like, you know, he should have a negative five yards. And as soon as you know it, you know, he, that running through somebody, still farming somebody, and she was just gaining a 10.

Yeah. You some of the things that he does, he just realizes two different guys. Yeah. Shoot, I think. Yeah, man, I think it's just like, he's just gifted, man, too, beyond it. He's just gifted. You know, he's a big back. You know, he's strong. And so, you know, he's able to do, he's able to do those things. And so, yeah, man, it's definitely, you know, I look at his game, and I want to, you know, at the same time, I want to learn from Quincham. You know, I want to look at this game and it's like, man, where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better, man. I'm always looking to grow as a player. Julian Sand. Oh, yeah, he's going to be a great, but he's going to be a great quarterback, man. He's so, so accurate. And so, he's definitely, man, I know Coach Dez is definitely going to get him right. Just, you know, continuing to grow as a leader, continuing to grow as a player. And so he's going to be really good for high state. I know just the quarterback position. I feel like, you know, the quarterbacks in the past, they've, they've definitely been vocal. And so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to ask Julian Sand as well. It's to be that vocal leader and lead the, and lead the offense and lead the team.

Thanks, guys. Shoot, man, he has, he has a bill like JK Dobbins. And I kind of see them, you know, similar, similarities in their game as well. And I know JK Dobbins. He was a great running back. I feel like he's not talked about his none. A lot, but man, his career here, you watch his highlights is great. I remember before I recruit, before I committed here, I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every, every one of his years here, like, four or five times. And so, man, he was such a great back. And I feel like, you know, when I see JK Dobbins, when I see James people, I see similarities to both of their games. I feel like they play the same. And so appreciate you all. You have a good. Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you. I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240, you know, like 240 for right now. Last year, I played it like 236 to 37. What does it feel like a 240 for? I feel like almost a different machine out there. Yeah, what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are with more, more back. I just feel like I'm like, like, like more downhill, like stronger. Like I'm taking all blocks better. It's bigger. Yeah. Maybe that's not the correct term, but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year. And you played quite a bit last year.

What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? I just got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps. How would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an eight. I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. My I'm ready for it. The Texas opener. It's a rematch. But it's not really two different teams. I'm going to play this. How has that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah, with an opener like that, we've been emphasizing it a lot. We know we got coming. So we know we got to do. We've been prepared for it. I think it's probably right now. He advanced freshman like he in the book. He studied in like he advanced and his measurements crazy. Like he saw it. I said, you're ready. What was that process like during last season? Could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready?

Yeah, because that's pretty much what my role was. Just whenever I was needed, I had to step up. So I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year. When you say ready, is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing? When I say ready, I think it's pretty much like everything physically, mentally, mostly. I think I'm there. A different is that feeling this year than last season. I asked a little more time. How different is that response bill? I feel like it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year. But I kind of go about it the same way. Like last year, I was attention over everything I did. I feel like this year is going to be the same thing. I think it's probably a little bit more. And what word?

I say, describe like, when you think of me, you think of like a bullet, like a silver bullet. I don't really know what it is on the ball. That's how I like to play and think. No, I ain't got to be my nickname. I'm saying that the deep. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think it fit me because I don't know. I just like the defense. I feel like we got, like you said, we got a lot of freedom. We're going around a lot. A lot of the terms is like, no, I don't know. I don't really not answer that. That's okay. You can go on your instincts a little bit more. Maybe it's not so thinking of too much. I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like, I just like his deep.

I like how the deep is. I like what he got going on. Now, I wanted to much said I was kind of like happy fun. Yeah. That's what you want. No. No. That's my dog. I'm going to say yeah. Kind of missing a little bit, but I'm happy fun. Go ahead one last question. Coach Daze talked a lot about the guys who played some last year, but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys will win your own. How much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year, but will be in this bigger role and I wanted some of your classmates. Yeah, I do feel like. Yeah, I do feel like I did win a national championship, but like you said, my role wasn't the same as how it's going to be this year. So yeah, I definitely want to go get another one experienced that like feeling maybe on the field, a lot more place. Great. Oh, Bill, thank you very much. I'm so happy. I feel like I'm still sometimes like basketball.

I want to be on that just like the fed, but you know, I got to stay. Stay square in some box. Exactly. Yeah. That's a great question. I mean, I feel like these two can answer that for the beer. I know I think KK and Nero can answer that. I don't know what to say about that. What do you guys think? What do you guys think? I don't know. I go against here everyday. This man is strong. Right? I'm talking about like, you have to basketball here. You sound like you can just do it. You can just say, I know, he's got a really high. Just over on the field. And he got the grip. He doesn't give up on the playing. Like you said, he's going to go in there and watch the film. He's going to be the day with him. He's going to be the 100 feet man. He's going to like this one. So now that it's not even considered a few minutes again. You know, can you just follow us around all the time? He's not like a coach, man. He's not like a coach.

Chip Kelly's in for exchange. You are mine about maybe like the idea of tack versus guard. Obviously his offensive predilection is for like offensive line play. Has you been a part of you settled in the go? I want to say maybe I don't know. But I mean, when I first heard he got the job, I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo. I can run with the tempo. You know what I mean? I'm playing basketball all life in set up football. And I feel like just the fast pace often, so we're running really fits the guys we have right now. I'm really excited for that. I know you can throw a football exercise. But can you kick a football? 75 years of Lincoln? No. Probably question. Lincoln, what's your question? How is your room after view? He's a blessing, man. I can't complain. He's a great guy. What's the name? His name's Lincoln. Clean hoes. Who's cleaner? I think we're both really clean. That's why we kind of picked each other's roommates because we're very clean.

We don't like our burdens really messy. Well, it's true though. It's the truth. They're both pretty clean. Luke, are you still a cross-training in tackle some or if you just been all guard this break? So far I've been all guard. I really don't know. Like I said, I'm taking it practice by practice. I could end up being a back attack like that and not, but you know, I'm just really focused in on this past practice and the next one is fun. What do you mean? You know, I'm just really holding up. Yeah. Oh, that mean a lot. You know, you put a lot of work in to play here. You know, you spend a dream just from being in Ohio kid. I'm from Ohio kid's perspective. I mean, that's the biggest switch possible. I would have said that's going to be pretty cool. What was it like to just last year at first game getting on the field for the first time? It didn't feel like it was going to be a weird answer, but it didn't feel like I was playing a game yet. That made sense. I was pretty locked in. I felt like just no anxiousness and no stress and nothing really. I just went in that first game. I was like, shoot out in here now. It's time to roll. You know, it didn't really hit me.

I was like, it didn't even hit me after. I'm like, what would you feel there? And if I get out there in the end, I'm just like, honestly, I don't know. I felt less nervous than I did in high school and it makes no sense. What do you feel about it? What do you feel about it? What do you feel about it? What do you feel about it? I feel like it's just nice to show you something. I feel a lot of it. I mean, I'm learning from Josh Aniston. I think Friars is one of my biggest role models here. He's my big brother. My first name is Dave. Tell me, Padilla. I don't know. This is Padilla, okay. Yeah, no. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, Padilla, Aniston. Those are my guys, man. I mean, even Miles too. I mean, all three of them. Those are my roommates and they're progressing every day as well on. And I'm excited to see where they can get to. I'm excited to plan and feel with them. Oh, yeah. You know, it's been really helpful. You know, just keep in my mind just settled and straightforward on the next blood. What do you think the biggest stunts you have to solidify that? That's a great question. Like I said, I mean, I just need to take consistent in my work. I think that's the biggest thing for me is just taking consistent work up the next blood.

So you got it from the guy you were in the play? Yeah. Wow, that's weird. Yeah, I mean, I guess they didn't want to get my nerves up, but like I was ready. I mean, I did, I took most of the ones that solved camp and I mean, I was already, I was pretty much it. I wasn't really nervous. I started the game. What was his advice to you? Yeah. I mean, you're going against Tyleek and Kyle every day and practice. I mean, it's not different. Almost different. Are you now about to attend a two-star attendee as a player, you know, having that under your belt? I mean, I'm more confident. I know what's going on. I can see, like, I can see what's going on with the defense. I know what's going on. I know what's coming. I mean, I understand the game's a lot better than what it was. Which adds up to what? Fast, the start, me, etc. Yeah. You can play with that dust for a while. I mean, if we get out early, it's, you get the defense change in place. It's changing their defense. You start fast. I mean, they're trying to get the call in the play, but you start fast.

I'm not going back. I trust a lot of their shots. Yeah, of course they isn't pretty much that, though. You deserve to play, man. You know, in some formal fashion. What, were you expecting this week in terms of your role? Um, wherever they need me, if it's left right, wherever it's, I need to go in. I'm going to, I'm just about to do the front of me. I'll just play in check. Um, took me back to high school days, but I should back in high school. I wasn't really random all the way up really into him passes, but it was fun. Change got my, made my feet better, I would say. How confident you feel like you could play there if you need me? If they, they want me there, I'll guess I'll play there. I mean, they need me, they need me. Also in the illness that swept through the office, the line room. A lot of times coaches and players have said that I was still relying for the groom, you know, getting you experience among others. What was that like for you and double dipping, playing some tag or playing some guard, the same practice. Um, it was based on a group effort, like for me, we had guys out and we just had to go back practice.

Um, all five guys, there's wherever they were playing, we just got to go. How much of that accelerate your development, like that time with the ones you were actually getting? They really said it did. Um, I was jumped in there. I didn't really know. So we like wanted to practice with practices, but like after those, I was like, you're out of good. You know, my confidence grew. Yeah. It seemed like there was sort of a settling in process for you and the Akron game, maybe play got better at the game when on it. Especially in the ground game, things seem to take on. Was there a moment when they clicked on the field for you? Like was there nerves and then a time of settling in? I guess how, taking you through kind of that first game mentally? Yeah. First game, obviously you can have nerves for your first time starter, but then like after the first couple of plays, meaning you have nerves naturally, the answer first couple of play that was good. I was rolling. Also, it was a weird new first time. I was trying to find out how to say it was also the first start.

Yeah. Yeah. But like, I prepared well and camp and practice all week and I was, I was ready. I have two multi-year starters. I did a lot. I mean, I couldn't ask them, hey, what we got here, but I was prepared well. I was telling Jimmy and said, hey, we play our blocks. What's the emotional side of it? What is it like to start a game? It was always my dream to come here and play and start and having that like, I was like, keep going, keep building those days, keep building. What a much younger Austin, do you have people from you? No, I don't think, even, I told him, like, I asked him, yeah, younger self, even committed here, I wouldn't believe it then. I think I have a couple of starts. Yeah.

Awesome. Has this happened faster than you had been building these days? I guess you're technically a sophomore, but you can play as a richer person. No, I knew that year two, I was going to see you some playing time. Now, starting week one, year two, I didn't see that, but like, I was ready in spring ball. Like, I knew I was going to play some soccer. What does it mean to you to, it's not only get the opportunity to play, but it's like, you play well enough now, and coaching staff trust you, you're going to be able to put about there in whatever the situation is, but there aren't that so early on in your career. I guess it shows like my preparation, my hard work, and just everything I put into this, and I just finally show up on a field. There are moments, the top season, the end of the spring, and you can't just kind of realize that you could play at this high level, high level with the ones, you know, if you need to. Yeah, the definitely was in training camp. I mean, blocking highly can tie every day.

Like, it feels a lot of confidence in doing it well, and not like getting balled or anything. There is defensive tag wasn't that easy in the spring. Hero in Jason Moore in Taiwan, all those guys, pretty much anyone on the deepened line gets your face out of time. So, and Kay and Mack as well. Yeah. I've worked with Paul about the stability of the training line. How much can he help you? He helped me a lot, and I'm proud that he's our starting center, not someone else's, but I mean, he's like the captain of the line. He's another voice on the line with guys like Josh Fryer and Josh Simmons, Donnie and Tiger. That means another voice and another captain on the look-ways of having the men with this much experience. Help during the end of the middle of the line. I mean, a lot. He can tell you, like before the play was going on, how to block someone, like what you need to do, and it helps a lot.

Tiger, talking about how calm he is, how much does that fit in between you and the guys who's kind of been there and seeing the line. It makes us more calm, especially me and Tay, as a first star. So, like we were up here with Seth, like he brought us down, and we were like fine. Like our emotions weren't high, we were settling. Is that like something he tells you? Is that something you could pick up on by how he's acting? How do you kind of mean sense what he's trying to do? It's by how he's acting, and what I mean, him, when we're on the side of him, both Josh and Donnie, like he was telling us, like hey, we're cool, like we got it, but it's pretty much like everyone. I said how much do that? As a first time starter, how much did the end best? Me and a lot. That was my first time ever using iPads. We didn't use the iPads in high school, but I mean you can say like try to remember the defense, you can just come on a sideline, bring up a play and get help up really well.

Probably the first or second, but after that, I thought we'd say our seventh. Josh, thank you very much. It seems like training part is a part of the time that we're getting bigger and stronger. It's like the culture part of the team. How much of the fact we do that in a part of the team? It's also, it's a lot. I feel like you can't be able to transform your body. Like I have, like people here come and do that without having that mentality part with it. It's like we always talk about competitions here and our culture is fight, so we're always here to compete. I feel like that is just, that's what gets you in this mindset. When you talk about that transformation, can you just give us a little sense maybe with numbers or body fat or like what you do with the weight group, how big is that transformation that feeling? I don't have really specific numbers, but it's more just like I can just, I feel like feeling when I'm playing.

I remember how I felt the play when I just got here and now I know how it feels to play like just today. It feels physically different on my body. It's like, it's just, I'm getting used to it, that makes sense. I can't imagine feeling like that. Hideo also said about you that you are just a completely different guy from last year. You're the work teacher, so let's get it done. Do you feel like you weren't at that place mentally? I think I was, but I think I had some, I would say, kind of like confidence issues, but I mean, I work past it and I know who I am and I know I can be here. Is it yourself, is it teammates, is there someone in the family that makes you believe that you can do it?

I know I can do it. It's not like those are all, it's all in the past now. Did the past play time in a very obvious opportunity? Guys had to step up and be able to be on the business. That helped you get over that confidence issue there because it's now a memory and it's a good opportunity. So, kind of, it's just like... I mean, it's just being here. I feel like being here every day, working with the guys every day, it's just like, you know, you become this person that you might not have... You might not have felt like you were before that, but coming here, working every day, stacking these days, I just feel like I realized who I am and I know what I can do now. Well, I want to be on the surface of this road, but are you... This is just saying, you've kind of like convinced yourself that you actually belong here in the beginning.

I knew I could play here. It was just like the... I don't know how to explain it. I've always known I could play here. I'm just... Let's go. I'm ready to attack. What are the guys doing to help you to figure that out? For sure, I think KJ was a big influence. Ty Hamilton, Ty League, they all helped me a bunch last year, kind of just pushing through. I really plan as much, so I just wanted to get more experience under my belt, so I can bring younger guys with me because I've been through a lot of good. One of those younger guys we're seeing right here, it's the first time I've scored all of their last years. What have you seen from Lill? I've never felt like I should have real forgot about him because he was hurt. Now he's running with almost a second man up behind him and Ty. What have you seen in your memories? He was a workhorse, he goes, stay quiet, he goes work hard, and that's what I love about him. He focuses, he don't really talk much.

He's going to get the job done, do a job right, he rarely has any mistakes. What would be a successful season? A national championship? A ring, win, all the games we don't want to lose into, we got a mindset that we can't beat. We just got to go show it. It seems like you guys expect a national championship every year, this year even more so. You guys have all come back for this, you guys have all decided that nothing is up to you. Is it a good feeling difference or is there not really any difference? It's definitely a difference, everyone working harder. We noticed our last run, most of us don't have any years after this, so we got to go bigger, go home and we're not trying to go home. Finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan, but when you look at what they did, they won the national championship. You guys took them down to the final minute, right? You know what I mean? You were right there, something goes a little different, you guys could have won that game against them.

Does that tell you anything about like that, hey, you guys want to win a national championship, but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year, like you're that close. So I'm saying, we just like work harder, that's kind of a coach makes a saying, you know, nobody cares, just work harder. Like those, you know, when we played Georgia, it's the same thing. Last play, you know, they went on the win in 90s, so we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season, I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles? Of course, it's frustrating, but you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on it. You just got to, you know, come back and work harder. Do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older, you kind of learn, I thought that was working harder than you always find out there's a little more than you could have been doing? Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college. I thought, first of all, I was working here, it's hard as I could, but not look back at it. I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now, so just to learn anything.

If the stamina is a 16, then the answer to what do you need it to be to be your best? It's a 75, is it only a one? 80, 85? I mean, I can, it's all on me. I just, I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder in shape. It's been a thing, yeah. The idea of a potential is 16 or 17 or 17. What you said about that idea is that making nervous about, can you last that long? You're worried, you're worried, you're worried about that. I think, I think I definitely can last. I was just, you know, we got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play 50 stamps a game. That's just too much on our bodies. Just everybody, like, online, D-line. We got to get those younger guys to play. You know, get debt pieces on the D-line and O-line and everywhere else so we can last that long run. Speaking of life, playin' on the snap. Was he like playing that new snap again last year because I don't know.

I don't know if any of us were really expected to be playing that next time. Yeah, I did. Unless we were like, winning by like a lot. I thought, like, there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something. But we're playing them big games, like, you know, Notre Dame, too, or North. Those kind of games. Of course I want to be, because I know I can contribute. And I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got that new guys in the second game. Oh, yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal. Y'all, you haven't really seen it yet, but in practice, he shows all the time. He's just, he's grown right now. He has to work, I think. He just has to get, you know, in the playbook and things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen, you're both, listen to 6th, or you're 327, he's 326. Yeah, he's, I kind of look at him like my junior, but you know, K-Mac, he's going to be a great player. He's got to develop more and get into playbook.

And we got to get them right during the all season. So they can play. And I just played, I don't want to like contribute like make plays, tackle sex. Seems like these guys get bigger. Each one of the freshmen class is a bigger, bigger. Do those guys kind of, it doesn't kind of allow you to solve the first? Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes. And they all work hard. I've only seen much of some of the day too. And I know Paz on, but throughout the workouts, they've been working hard, you know, they're determined. And it looks like they're ready to work to make it. How important this notes feels like. There's a lot of great defenses that you have big athletic defense attacks. You can eat up space, but also move, you know, right? That is that is that environment maybe for great defense to have guys like you that have some fold. But also a great team.

I think that is definitely, I think if you look at the last couple of national champions and winners are like, Team on North, they got two good, uh, detaco, two athletic detacters. Look at Georgia, two athletic detacters. I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. If you think about that, they're going to be defined by the defense with actors. Like, what's Georgia? Jordan Davis and Jill Carter. Let's miss you again. It's Chris Jenkins. Couple more questions for you. You might as well tell me how, I mean, you understand this because you play it. But I feel like sometime I don't know it, but are people realizing how important defense tackles are? A little bit more than they used to? I think so. I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detacters. Yeah. Like in the combine, just now you see them like those guys, they're moving four to four, seven, eights and things like that. So we'll see. And when you think about this freakish attack, how do you think you fit into that mold of that kind of player? You watch that and say, yeah, that's me. Yeah, definitely.

I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacters, but I don't want to, you know, get a big head, but you know, watch the come on. I watch the views through the drills. I have to say, like, you're looking at my film. So I think I'm going to. You become like a artist when it comes to the bad guy passes the way. I mean, you're going to bring practice. You're not doing as much a weapon on the line. I don't remember how many I've left. I mean, as many as I can have, I think I have more than that. But I think they're counting. I think they count some of them. And some of them were like just listed. So, but I think we work on Joe's match in the hand. I think that's goes big. What we do is a D line, you know, just affecting the quarter. That is anyway you can. It's just great for the defense. So, just that little thing covering his eye, you know, he might throw it. A little bit to the left to our player. So, so it's something that you really, really have to work on.

You can do that. It's one of the things that you've maybe worked on the most. You can do your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen. Like, oh, that passed through that. You can do that. We don't have to ask. It's kind of kind of expected for me. I think I just have like a, like, an eye for the ball kind of. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just, I see him, I load up. Getting his ways. And sometimes he just throws it to me. I don't know. I hear it. You're at TV. I have state quarterbacks here. I'm getting a bad down pass. I mean, they get frustrated by, you know, we're a team, you know. We're just getting better. Yeah. I should lot of, a lot of different backs, man. They just learn to grow for them. You got to pick your top three backs. You got to go right now. One, two, two. Uh. I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you, I'll give you one. I would say, say, Juan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey. Auto. He was injured this year. I like McCaffrey. Who's the best back in this drive?

Best back in this drive. I lead out of the yard. That's y'all. That's y'all decision. Playing well with Howard. When I'm going to remember most. We're a Howard man. He's just such a great lead. Such a great leader, man. It's just like in moments where, you know, usually a lot of players they fold, man. He was just always calm and relaxed, man. And he just the leader that he was, man. That's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Yeah. He's shoot. He's going to be really good, man. He's on Coach Lock. I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia. Just that one, two punch with them both as well. They're going to be really good backs. And so James people's man. He's smart. The way that he goes about his business, man. He's mature. And so, man, he's growing, you know, just as a person and as a player. And so, man, yeah. Definitely Ohio State. You know, that running back room is in great hands. I was right. I'm moving up to the U.S. Body. It's about the base of personality and the approach of people that are going to be the same way.

Yeah. Coach, Coach Hartley, man. He's full of energy, man. And he's creative as well. You know, I'm just learning from him as well. You know, I'm trying to run more outside the backfield. It was being able to learn from Coach Hartley. And so, he's definitely creative at what he does. And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so, I think that would do really good. Straight away. And he's also able to play on the right turn. That's what my strategy is. Just the intensity, man. And the intensity of the playoffs. Every game, man, is like the intensity got, you know, higher and higher. And so, you know, being able, I know in the lead, it's the same thing. Even if it's not the playoffs, just every game and intensity, it keeps getting higher and higher. And so, yeah, you just, I know you got to bring it, you know, each and every day, and come in and work just like Ohio State. You know, I definitely feel like Ohio State. They definitely do a good job of preparing us for that. You know, I just remember even before going through this process, I'll talk to a lot of players before that. And they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know, for the NFL. And so, yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I know I took a couple of days off after the national championship. And then, shoot, right after that, I'm writing sample Florida, and I'm right to it. And so, yeah, I think while I trained, I trained at your birth performance. I think it's called the House of Athlete or the Compound now. They did a good job, man. They're just bringing us in. And the way they went about training us, they did a really good job. The bucking nearest. No, I haven't. Tampa, Tampa nice. It's a nice city, man. Really nice. The 40 to broad and the vert. You've been on the races and awesome walker. Do you need to meet your mentality of life when you've got online records? Do you have to figure that you can train as well? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. They did a good job, man. They're just bringing us in. The way they went about training us, man. They did a really good job. The bucking nearest. No, I haven't. Tampa, Tampa nice. It's a nice city, man. Really nice. The 40 to broad and avert. Yeah. Yeah. No, man. It's really all about technique. And then it's about mindset as well. And so I say, you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of Will Howard. It's for the love of the receiver.

It's who I got on the perimeter. Just making sure, you know, first of all, my quarterback doesn't get sacked. And I told Will, I think it was before the first game. I was like, I got your brother. It's, I said, man, I'm not going to let you get hit. You know, and so I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack. I'm not sure that. But I know if I did, I haven't given up too many. And so, man, it's for the love of my brothers, though, man, making sure that the ball get in their hands, you know, the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed. You know, you had to hit the practice field later today. What is something you've been working on right now when you need to. In my game, you can't really work on this, you know, in all season. I feel like it's more so, you know, you got to put the pads on. You got to go through some inside run, you know, maybe. I was really just continuing to run through tackles. And so that's, I feel like that's one of the areas in my game. You know, I want to continue to get better at it. I feel like I did a good job of that in my senior year. And so I just want to continue to build on that.

Yes, I did. Yes, I did. So, people say you look like now, let them bar out there. If I can first see, I can mail them to you tomorrow. And I'll say the next one is probably just an option route out of the back. And man, and man coverage, you're getting on that line backer. And so, yeah, I say to man, the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself, man. And the way that man, he approaches the game.

He comes in with the monster, he's going to work every single week. You know, every practice, he's working hard. Even the team is going to be able to get the job done. And he's going to be able to do everything a week. You know, every practice, you know, he's working hard. You know, even shoot him. I don't know, every game was a good game for him, man. But still, man, he always has the mentality to mindset that, you know, he's going to come in each and every day. He's going to continue to work and get better, man. And so, he's definitely, man, he's going to be a special player, man. He really is. Man, a lot of ups and downs, man, it's just how you respond to adversity. And I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better. It's just, I'm not having something to lean on now. You know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity, I had nothing to run to. You know, you can run to people, but they still can't. It's not too much, they can't truly help you. You know, I feel like, you know, I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ.

And so, being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you, in those moments where it's tough, you know, where it's slow. And so, that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you. And so, The back of the front of Peterson Power and Judd John, is the spirit of that person. Which aspect, do you do those other individuals that you want to model and from being around power? Um, man, those guys have such a great mentality, man. Am I just really loved their mentality, especially Q as well. You know, I talked about Will Howard, his leadership, but Quincham mentality, man. That boy just, yeah, that boy just gifted, you know, you see, you know, sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like, you know, he should have a negative five yards.

And as soon as you know it, you know, he, the running through somebody, still forming somebody and shooting us again to 10. And so, I think, you know, I think it's just like, he's just gifted, man, to be honest. He's just gifted, you know, he's, he's a big back. You know, he's strong. And so, you know, he's, he's able to do, he's able to do those things. And so, yeah, man, it's definitely, you know, I look at his game and I want to, you know, at the same time, I want to learn from Quincham. You know, I want to look at his game and it's like, man, where, where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better, man. I'm always looking to grow as a player. What's your last one to treat? Julian San. Oh, yeah, he's going to be a great, but he's going to be a great quarterback, man. He's so, so accurate. And so, he's definitely, man, I know Coach Dez is definitely going to get him right. Just, you know, container grow as a leader, container grow as a player. And so, he's going to be really good for a high state. Thanks, Coach Dez. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. He's, I know just the quarterback position.

I feel like, you know, the quarterbacks in the past, they've, they've definitely been vocal. And so, I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to ask Julian San as well. It's to be that vocal leader and lead the, and lead the offense and lead the team. Thanks, Coach Dez. Shoot, man. He has, he has a build like JK Dobbins. And I kind of see them, you know, similar, similarities in their game as well. And I know JK Dobbins, he was a great running back. I feel like he's not talked about his, not a lot, but man, his career here, you watch his highlights is great. And so, I appreciate you all. Yeah, I'll be going. This.

This. This.

This. This. This. All I got coming is last year, I knew it were all, so I just tacked every day, really the same way. This is a band very rough. Physically, you have different, aren't you weight wise, body wise, all that from the year before? Oh, I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240, you know, like 244 right now. Last year, I played at like 236, 237, 207. What does it feel like in 244 or a building? Almost a different machine out there. Yeah, what's it? What does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more

More back. I just feel like I'm like like Like like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking over blots better. It's a big Yeah, it is it's daunting. Maybe that's not the correct term But to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year And you played quite a bit last year instead of what you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more Just got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps. So But are you are you how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. I'm ready for it. I'm ready for it. The Texas opener. It's a rematch. It's not really two different teams compared to the last time you all played and stuff. How has that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the Where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah, with an opener like that. We've been With the emphasizing in a lot of we know we got coming so we know we got to do we've been prepared for it.

Um, I think Riley ready to play right now. He advanced freshman like he ended here in the book. He studied in like he advanced And his measurements crazy like he saw like the saw line to What was that process like during last season? Could you feel yourself Becoming more and more ready Yeah, because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up. So I feel like that's what built me into Me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready. Is it more Thing? Is it a mental thing when I say ready? I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly. I think I'm there A different is that Oh, that's the one one time Oh I feel like it's uh

It's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year, but I kind of go about it the same way like last year I was intentional with everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more It won't work I say Scrub on camera say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bullet like a silver bullet I don't really a bullet. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play and think Like what I want body. No, I ain't got to be my nickname, but Yeah Um think it fit me because I don't know. I just like the defense. I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot

A lot of the times is like no, I don't know. I don't really not answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like I just like his deep I like how to breathe deep because I like what he got going on Uh Now I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy for you No All right, no, that's my dog. I don't see it kind of missing a little bit, but yeah, I'm happy for you Well, don't thank you go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year But maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for That wasn't maybe your national championship you guys will win your own Yeah, how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year? But we'll be in this bigger role and along the summer year Yeah, I do feel like um Yeah, I do feel like I did win a national championship, but like you said my role wasn't

Same as how's my beaters year. So yeah, I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like Fill it with me be on the field a lot more place Great. Oh, Bill. Thank you very much Unique offense compared to NFL especially with the way he uses receivers How do you anticipate your role changing it? How do you view the offense from a receiver perspective specific? Yeah, um, I mean, I think he likes to really push the ball down the field He likes to be balanced. He likes to Give different looks to a difference. You know, we're gonna Not to try to get too much into it, but you know, we're gonna use emotion move some guys around and things of that nature I think for myself I feel comfortable playing any of the positions that is that is asked whether it's the slot the outside positions and Unique part about our offense is I don't think necessarily you play the X or the Z because the pit on the formation of the hash You can be the opposite you could be the X but then you're to the field now you're the Z So you got to really learn The entire concept and know where you're out in the field which I think Makes everybody smarter players because you don't pigeonhole yourself. I just play X

You know, I'm only know this position like you get in two minutes. You're the Z now. You got to know what to do You may have the clear out router. You may have the backside dig like you got to know What you're doing? So I think he doesn't just say like we're gonna do this offense He's really trying to create an offense that it's our personnel really well that that field boundary thing Yeah, that's a thing in college, but it seems like it's more unique to clip is that is that something you're used to seeing Another offense has been in yeah, definitely. I mean, I think if if I'm on the left hash like technically I'm the X you know, I'm in the boundary, but if we're on the right hash. I'm still on the left side I'm really the Z in the concept because I'm to the field and to the strength of the tight end so I've been in offenses like is similar like that before and You know, I just think he he one thing I think that's really stood out as the compliments of our routes that we have so far Um, I feel like we have a chance to really Run similar stems, but there's different routes off those stems and things like that which I think for receiver like myself who

You get you know a really good look at DB's and they study your film. They study your splits like having routes That look the same, but break off a different Different angles is extremely important because it feels like you have some versatility in your bag to go out with versus like You got this hitch again. You're backside. You like that's all you got, you know, I mean so um Yeah, he's just been a really good player's person to work with and he's been really communicative with the leaders and how we want this offense to look like in Some of the ideas that we may have as well. So it's it's been a really cool transition You talk about the transitions you've heard offense in three years probably your fourth and second Six years. Yeah. How do you not kind of build up some barriers? Yeah, man. I got to do this again. Right um, I think you know human nature is is always um A factor in whatever you do in life, but I think I try to make a conscious choice of coming in with a new year mentality each and every year And I think it's easy because we've had so many changes in um, it's been great working with

Marcus and jaden and Jeff and Sam all of everybody like it's it's been great with working with all the quarterbacks and um I just have a mentality and not really being complacent like I try to really focus on the things that I I can come back better at this year and I've been working my my butt off to do that so um, I think the easy thing and when I was younger, you're like dang like you just want that consistency, you know, I mean like you want that um Something you could depend on, but like life isn't life isn't always like that so um, um, I've been Re-invigorated because of just the The energy that dq brings in to our building each and every day and and the coaches as well like it's fun competing You know, I mean and sometimes I could get lost in the grind, but um, I think the reason why you make it here at this level is because you You fall in love with the competition of it and I think the competition breathes the success because um That is really where you the iron truly sharpens iron. So you know other guys are going to make plays, but you get excited to go in there and and know that

um, the next day we're going to go right back after the defense so um For myself, I'm just looking forward to continue to grow with the quarterbacks that we have um, I mean year six now, which is extreme blessing and um Leader one of the leaders in our room and I just try to take the bullby the horns with that and so That's really been my focus and Uh, you know, I'm excited for another year to us. It's looked like you're being more vocal on the sideline. Yeah, help young guys Definitely something you decided this offseason or uh, I think that's uh been a part of my maturation process as a leader I've always seen myself as somebody that was a uh A leader by example um, but From coaches and other teammates. I've had over the years um guys like to hear what I have to say for whatever reason sometimes You know and I think the biggest thing where I've tried to Figure out where I fit in with my vocal leadership is I never wanted to be like a dictator You know, I mean, I never wanted to tell guys what to do or or be a yellow or things like that Like when I say something I wanted to have power. I wanted to have meaning and I hope you know

The guys would feel the same way if they were to ask them that question Um, because I want to see all these guys win man like it's it's hard to make it in this league and stay in a career And so anyway, I could help the receivers the DB's I'm talking to some alignment Johnny who's who's rehabbing his foot, you know what I mean? Like everybody has a role and everybody has a different story and path And so if I could share what I've been through my testimony to help them or Uh Do things that kind of slow down the process. I'm gonna try to do that because um, we need everybody from The rookies to the ten year vets to to make this thing work. So um More so I try to speak to what I what I know and and really those honest conversations that I try to have with guys What they know I'm coming from a good place and I think I'm not the type of guy where I'm just going to talk in at them like if they see something like I could take a coaching point from Luke McCaffrey I could take a coaching point from day on me from jahann from uh Marcus from anybody, you know like

I think that's what makes you a great player when you can really Be coachable from anybody and not take it from a personal standpoint Hi, I'm good. I'm going back to what you were saying about Clevve and offense How is he as a teacher in teaching all this? Yeah, I mean, I think he does a really great job of Making things simple first and foremost. He doesn't overcoach and I think that's the trust that he has in our group and his in his coaches our position coaches to Filling the details. So we'll have an install meeting and It'll be a good amount of time But then our position coaches will have time and we'll make it specific to that position and so Then we'll come in and have a walkthrough And then after that we'll have another walkthrough and so I don't think there's been a time where I've come out here And I'm kind of worried about what I got you know I mean and when you get into certain offices there could be so many details where you could be overwhelmed and I think then it It forces it kind of separates guys in the sense that like one guy may study more than another guy

But when you have these these sessions that we have where we're having an installs in the morning We're having two walkthroughs and then we're coming on the field and doing it like I think you notice a lot of guys are playing a lot faster More confident because he's keeping it simple But also he's very particular in in what he's expecting but it's not a lot so There's not a pressure of to get it right but at the same time You know is expected of you and and you know you're going to have the tools given to you to be successful out there on the field And this offseason just the totality of change from front office players coaches the turf field What what does that been like for you just to see what's going on? It's been fun you know I think from Mr. Harris and the entire ownership group down to Adam Peters down to DQ down to Jada who he drafted and bringing in Marcus and Jeff and all those guys and down to leaders we have on our team I think it was extremely specific on the way they tried to build this thing going into this year First having the right people bringing in leaders bringing in guys who love to compete first thing that DQ said when he came here

Was and his first meeting like if you love to compete this is going to be the place for you I love it, you know, I mean I love bags and and going at it with the db's every day like the little mundane stuff can seem a little boring But that's I think that was the Were you make the gains during the offseason where you're really focused on? I'm hey like I'm a I'ma give all I got for this day and I'ma get better And then I'ma I'ma learn from the film and come back tomorrow and ready to do it again And he also understands like the the benefits of having breaks like he's given us breaks We've had you know weeks off here in the other weekend composed ourselves But then come back and give it all we got you know what I mean And when you got a coach that understands the physicality of an entire season where you guys do need breaks By the time the same time we're going to get after it It makes it fun as a leader because you can take that to your room and be like yo We got these we got this week You know, I mean that's extremely important But you know we have this little break coming up Where you're going to get your your mind and your body and your soul right so Coming into this season. I'm really optimistic

What we can be this year? And I think it started with the foundation that The ownership group and the entire staff has built and now it's on myself as a leader to continue to hone that in into the locker room But I think it's great because we have so many great leaders from all across the league who have one and Hell we got Bobby Wagner in there, you know, I mean I asked a hall of famer so like You know being able to have kind of guys like that that you can lean on that can sometimes take over that leadership Rollward doesn't fall on one person. I think it's Extremely refreshing and knowing that everybody's on the same page and the message is the same Allows you to go out there with confidence and always expected you Terry you seem to spend many of your off seasons Learning about things beyond football. How things what happy did you do anything this off season so far? Hobbies are increased your knowledge of this the world around you It's a question Play a lot of golf As that they just keeps my competitive juices flowing

um Planning the wedding that's going well and uh Man, I've just been grinding like honestly, you know, I mean, I've been hungry this offseason like I started working out you know pretty early and You start to see guys like coming back and it's just fun to like to be here and compete and feeling like everybody's on the same page You know what I mean like and so for me I'm a grind every offseason But just this one just feels like it's the start of something You know new and special and the foundation of is extremely important and to be a part of that to have a hand in that um You know, it's it's an honor, you know, and I put a lot of expectation on myself to come out here and and be the guy that I know I'm capable of and also like take him the next step and Being somebody that our quarterbacks that can trust and believe in so um, this offseason was pretty simple for me It was really about you know, working and and and grinding and getting better

You talked about jaden before and you're anything so far. I know we haven't seen everything Yeah, but in terms of his his arm strength the throws he's making anything surprising so far about the types that His ability in that regard definitely uh, I think after the second or third crosser that he threw I started telling receivers like hey, you gotta get your head around You know, I mean because again each quarterback throws the ball definitely sees the field differently So sometimes on crossers a lot of quarterbacks may like to see you cross the ball and get into that open zone over there If it's a man flattened off they like to see you get open where him he has a really good anticipation over the middle of the field where he can make those throws and give you a chance to catch and run and He's really accountable too like we had to play today where he felt like he missed me and you know It's not a big deal at all, you know, I mean him and I could talk to those things and there's been a play that I've talked to him about I could do a better job, but again like that open that open former communication from a rookie I think is it's very rare and I think it speaks to the confidence he knows who he is But he's also not afraid to say when he's wrong and he knows he needs room to improve

But his touch on the D ball is it's it's amazing um, you know, I love getting extra reps with practice after practice with him We're just catching the top end of a D ball as big for me, you know, I mean I get to track the ball over my shoulder And it's big for him to be able to get used to dropping the ball in the bucket But he just naturally has an ability to throw the ball. He sees the windows really well and now He's just you know continue to get adjusted to the speed in the past rush Well, I think he's these reps that he's getting our unbelievable during 11 on 11 because he's getting the field pain and Allen and DA and Cleveland Farrow like we got some dogs up there who want to come after them You know what I mean? And we got some great guys up front who are going to protect them And so these reps I feel like are even better than just seven on seven seven on seven I think he could do in the sleep to be fair like he throws the ball really well When you get this 11 on 11 two-minute drill you're putting them in game like situations and I'm looking at him in his eye I'm like we play real ball now like we we we plan you know, I mean and You just see no no anxiousness in his game in his demeanor which is extremely exciting and and then you know

He's extremely lighthearted and he's always smiling So he's joking with lime and D line. He's just cool with everybody and like I said like for a rookie quarterback to come in like that Where guys are gravitating to him and he's not afraid to be who he is That's dope. I think he has a bright future for himself The tough losses the tough seasons Can weigh on a player sure you're entering the prime of your career J.A. kind of mentioned it last year all he cares about is winning. Yeah, he wants to win now Is there a sense of urgency you obviously always want to win? Yeah knowing that you know You're you're getting to the prime your career like you want to win now. Yeah, I think that's a fair question I think um, you know you start to evaluate when you I'm in year six and you know it's how fast it goes and I try not to put the cart before the horse were looking too far ahead by at the same time You do want to win You want to be a part of a winning culture and have a chance to win the Super Bowl and the playoffs and all those things like that's why we we do this personally and I'm just excited with being a part of a

Organization in the environment where now like everybody's on the same page in the in the In the message is uniform and it speaks from the top down and It reflects in the guys that they're bringing in, you know all the guys that they brought in are guys who are hungry who are competitors who Not only fighting for spots, but we're going to help us win games and when you're around environment like that like that that makes you excited makes you hopeful and You know, you don't know how that's going to turn out until we start playing games, but The foundation is extremely important And I think this offseason we've really done a great job of building that they have and then when a coach quing guy here building with this team So I feel like we're going to be going into this offseason really Knowing we all got to do individually to become ready for camp, but the met the message is clear to come back to camp ready to compete and And be ready to win Appreciate you guys

You Really playing as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt So I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been One of those younger guys we're seeing it What have you seen from well? We all forgot about it because he was hurt now he's running You know almost a second man Uh, well as a workhorse he he gonna stay quiet. He gonna work hard and that's what I love about him He focuses. He don't really talk much. He's going to get a job done do a job right really has any mistakes What would be a successful season? A national championship I ring When all the games we don't want to lose anything We got a mindset that we can't be beat and we just gotta go show it Seems like you guys expect the national championship over here this year even more so you guys have all come back for this

All decided like I was definitely a difference everyone working harder um we noticed our last run like we most of us don't have any years after this So we got to go go bigger going home and we're not trying to go home So it's finished big we know what you guys think of Michigan but When you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys Took them down to the final minute, right? You know what I mean? I mean you You were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that came against them Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey you guys want to win a national championship But You played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close So I'm saying uh, we just like work harder. That's that's kind of coach makes of saying you know nobody cares Just work harder like those no one played Georgia is the same thing Last last play you know they went on the win in 90 so We just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine

How frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national titles? Uh, of course is you know it's frustrating, but you can't change the outcome. You can't really do it on Duel on it. You just gotta you know come back and work harder do things Better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome change Yeah, definitely. I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could but now I look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all Compared to what I'm doing now, so just to learn anything To be your best Uh, 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me. I just I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder

I think I think we I definitely can last. I was just you know We got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies Just Everybody's like online D line. We got to get those younger guys to play, you know Get that pieces on the D line and the O line and everywhere else so we can last that I don't know if any of us were expected to play that next time Ah, yeah, I did unless we were like winning by like a lot I thought like there are no small machines. I can go sit down or something But we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame too or North those kind of games. I of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done Oh, yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac animal. Y'all you haven't really seen it yet But in practice he shows all the time. He's just He's just he's growing right now. He has a work. I think he just has to get you know in the playbook and things like that

You guys are about the exact same size Listen, you're both listening to six three you're three twenty seven. He's three twenty six Yeah, I kind of look at him like my my junior, but you know, K-Mac he's gonna be a great player He's got to develop more and getting the playbook So really a lot on you older guys. There's that large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in the back Part of your task for this year to bring those guys Yeah, definitely we got to be leaders um like I say we got to have them play this year We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right Thurna all season so they can play and not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackle sex Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes um and they all work hard. I've only seen much of something day two I'm not on but throughout the workouts they've been working hard, you know, they they're determined

And it looks like they're ready to work You know right I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last Couple of national championship winners are like team of Northean and they got two good Detackle two athletic detackles look at Georgia two athletic detackles So I think that's definitely need if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams What's George George Davis and Janet Carter let's miss you again. It's Chris Jenkins Like how I mean You understand it was you play it but I feel like some time it I don't know it's our people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to I think so

I think there's darn novella to develop more and more of these like freakiest detackles Yeah, like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that So we'll see and when you think it when you think about those freakish Uh, yeah, definitely I think I'm top notch when it comes to detackles, but I don't want to you know get a big head But you know watch it come on I watch the dude through the drawers. I have to see like look at my my film So I think I'm up there I mean you're going I mean, it's many is okay. I think I have more than that But I think he said it on I think they may encounter some of them and It's some of them where I like just missed it. So but I think we work on drove matching the hand

I think that's uh goes big and uh What we do is a deal on you know just affecting the quarterback is Anyway, you can't is this great for the defense. You know just that little thing covering his eye. You know, he might go A little bit to the left to our player. So So it's something that you really really have to work on It's really that's one of the things that you maybe worked on the most Your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen Like oh that past I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball comment. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he's throws it to me I mean they get frustrated, but you know we're a team. You know we're just getting better Yeah, I should lot of a lot of different backs man. They just learn to grow for them Uh

I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you I'll give you one. I would say Sequan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey I don't appreciate it. Who's the best back in this draft? I lead out of the yard. That's y'all that's y'all decision Playing with Will Howard when I'm going to remember most Uh We're a Howard man. He's just such a great lead such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where you know Usually a lot of players they fold man. He was just always calm and relaxed man. He Just the leader that he was man. That's one thing I'm gonna remember about him Yeah, he's Shoot He's gonna be really good man. He's um Coastal like I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia just that one two punch with them both as well They're gonna be really good backs and so James people's man He's smart the way that he goes about his business man. He's mature and so man. He's growing, you know

Just as a person in as a player and so man. Yeah Definitely oh, hi estate. You know that running back room is in great hands You Yeah, um Coach coach hard line man. He's full of energy man and um he's creative as well You know, I'm just learning from him as well, you know I'm trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from coach hard line And so he's definitely creative at what he's he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well And so I think that would do really good Just the intensity man then since he did other playoffs um every game and it's like the intensity got you know Higher and higher and so um, you know being able I know in the lead. It's it's the same thing Even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and intensity it keeps getting higher and higher And so yeah, you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State

You know, I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that You know, I just remember even before going through this process. I'll I'll talk to a lot of players Before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know for the NFL and so yeah Yeah Yeah, I know I took a couple days off after the um Notch in the championship and then Shoot right after that. I'm right in right in Tampa, Florida and I'm right to it and so um Yeah, I think where I trained I trained that um your morph performance. Um, I think it's called the house of athlete or the compound now Um, they did they did a good job, man I'm just bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man. They were they did a really good job The bucket near know I haven't Temple a temper nice. This is nice. It's a nice city man. Really nice Uh, the 40 to broaden avert

Yeah No, man, uh, it's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well And so um, I say you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of will highway It's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter just making sure you know, um, first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked And I I told will I think it was before the first game. I was like I got your brother It's uh, I said man, I'm not gonna let you get hit, you know, um, and so um, I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um, but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man It's for the love of my brothers though man making sure that the ball get in their hands You know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed In my game uh, you can't really work on this, you know, in all season I feel like it's more so you know, you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run You know, maybe uh, it's really just continuing to run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game

You know, I want to continue to get better at I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that Yes, I did yes, I did Uh, I did me with um new Orleans as well um, I never got that comparison actually um, I know I have a comrade Sure, yeah, man. I have a comrade great great back man Just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not gonna lie. He's smooth Yeah um Inside zone from stack being able to hit that dang downhill and I say the next one is probably Just an option route out of the backfield, you know, and man and man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so He will be here a couple years

Yeah, I say to man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man um, he approaches the game He comes in with the monster, you know, he's gonna work every single week, you know every practice, you know, he's working hard You know um even shoot. I don't know every good I think he had it every game was a good game for him And so but still man he always has the mentality to mindset that you know, he's gonna come in each and every day He's gonna continue to work and get better man, and so he's definitely man. He's gonna be a special player, man. He really is Man a lot of ups and downs man. It's just How you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God is definitely helped me to do better Is this um now have something to lean on now, you know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know, you can run to people, but they still can't it's not too much They can't truly help you, you know, I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ

And so being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you in those moments where it's tough, you know where it's low and When you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about He gives you he gives you that peace and comfort, you know Even in those moments man, we're so hard that you can't you can't explain. It's like man I'm going through this, but like how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so I'm being around power Um Man, those guys have such a great mentality man. I just really love their mentality especially um Q as well, you know, I talked about will Howard his leadership, but quench your own mentality man That boy just yeah that boy just gifted, you know You see, you know, sometime he put in a situation where he looked like you know, he should have a negative five yards

And then soon as you know it, you know, he that running through somebody step on somebody and shoot it's again to 10 it's uh Uh Shoot I think Yeah, man, I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest. He's just gifted, you know, he's he's a big back You know, he's strong and so um, you know, he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um Yeah, man, it's definitely you know, I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from quenching you know, I want to look at this game is like man where where can I get better at as well You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better man. I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian san. Oh, yeah, he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man He's so so accurate and so um, he's definitely man. I know coach dad's definitely going to get him right Just you know, um, continue to grow as a leader continue to grow as a player and so he's going to be really good for high state Uh He's uh, I know just the quarterback position um, I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal

And so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask of Julian san as well It's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead the offense and lead the steam Shoot man, he has he has a bill like jk dobbins and um, I kind of see them, you know similar similarities in their game as well And I know jk dobbins he was a great running back. Um, I feel like he's not talked about his none Um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great. I remember um Before I recruit before I committee here. I remember watching jk dobbins highlights like every Every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man He was such a great back and um, I feel like you know, um, when I see jk dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games. I feel like they play the same Thanks, I appreciate you all. Yeah, I'll be going

You You

You You All I got coming in last round of the world. So I just attack every day really the same way It's a very rare physically different are you weight wise body wise all that from your Um, I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240. You know, I'm like 244 right now last year. I played it like 236 to 37 What does it feel like a 244 or belt you feel like almost a different Machine out there. Yeah, what's it?

What does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more of a More bad. I just feel like I'm like like Like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking old blots better. It's big. Yeah Is it daunting? Uh, maybe that's not the correct term, but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year And you played quite a bit last year and stuff. What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? Is it got to get ready to just play? There are any more snaps. So Are you are you how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an age standpoint? Yeah, I'm looking forward to it I'm ready for it. My I'm ready for it. I think it's open. It's a rematch But it's not really two different teams compared to the last time y'all played and stuff How's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the Where an opener put that magnitude? Yeah, we're the opener like that. We've been um with the emphasizing it a lot We know we got coming so we know we got to do we've prepared for it

Um, I think Riley ready to play right now. He he advanced freshman like he ended here in the book He studied in like he advanced and his measurements is crazy like he saw like the saw line to him Or you said you're ready What was that process like during last season? Could you feel yourself The coming more and more ready Yeah, cuz that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up So I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready Is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing when I say ready? I think it's pretty much like everything physically Mentally most of me I think I'm there Oh Oh I feel like it's uh

It's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year, but I kind of go about it the same way like last year. I was intentional with everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more It won't work I say Scrub my gun I say that when you think of me you would think of like a like a bullet like a silver bullet I don't really a bullet. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play and think You know, I ain't ain't gotta be my nickname, but Yeah Um think it fit me because I'm just like the defense. I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot

A lot of the times is like no, I don't know. I don't really know how to answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like I just like his defense. I like how to put your defense. I like what you got going on Uh Now I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy for you Yeah, that's what you want No That's my dog. I'm gonna say yeah kind of missing a little bit, but yeah, I'm happy for you Don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year But maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for That wasn't maybe your national championship you guys How much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year, but will be in this bigger role and along the summer year Your classmate. Yeah, I do feel like um Yeah, I do feel like I did win a nadi last year, but like you said my role wasn't

Same as how's gonna be this year. So yeah, I definitely want to go get another one experience that like feeling with me be on the field lot more place Kind of have a lot of leaders on the D line and at the D in position so we kind of all kind of just kind of talk for children You Said it is we love it. You're all competitive people. We all love the fish each other And I feel like the spring and the best side of all this Like we're all just kind of bouncing off each other and see what one person does and we kind of Bit it into our toolbox and we all kind of just kind of build one great thing I So I definitely did it in high school. I was pulled back and a little bit of tidan

So I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there in coach Wilson You love watching it too before you left and Feel like you playing that seed and coach day's head and coach day kind of just went for it and try to do the best I could Do it is that continuing now You know, new playbook. I did not know you got that far Um, I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any position on the field You need me to just give me a weaker to to learn it and kind of perfect it and try to do my best for you Kid Jack do the same thing. Oh, yeah Graphically that's why It's talking to coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of sought you and got out to have some conversations I think JT and Jack decided to come back Just got to win into those We respect him and out of that help you maybe get the right mindset. I guess Um definitely kind of seeing it all the way through if you like People kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it how long the season is now

What you got to do to prepare for and what they happen and all that time from here to to that So I feel like we definitely just coached in me kind of connected Maybe kind of just talks man-to-man and uh He kind of just said straight to me and I feel like We kind of both of us and we know we're making it Making each other better every day. We got the four best the ends five best the ends honestly College football and we're gonna be one of the best D-Rimes in football Better player today Oh, I feel like I've taken big steps in my roles of just Being responsible and being more of a leader and uh kind of stepping up and taking a step to Kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and uh, I feel like I'm kind of helping out more But I mean the season goes by so fast already So when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow, it's already week 10 So now it's kind of Gives you more time to kind of enjoy it kind of save it because

But you don't want to spend all your power in the first First month of a year right there is that Not pace yourself. Yeah, but I mean there's a mindset Yeah, definitely definitely gonna have that the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practices How much is Larry talked to you guys around the game last question right here 2016 2017 four and a five two five two one so much I mean he doesn't have a talk about it. We know about it You've seen it every day. We watched the film. You see them all working together. We know what it could be We know we could become so we know we we're right at the same At the right place at the right time and god wanted us to be here and he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together And be able to bounce off and uh just perfect our craft together and I feel like we all are just Great individuals and we come together So I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been

Uh, well as a workhorse he he goes stay quiet. You don't work hard and that's all I love about him Focuses he don't really talk much. He's going to get the job done do a job right really has any mistakes So what what it would be is Uh a national championship I'm reading When all the games we don't want to lose anything Uh, we got a mindset that we can't be beat Which we gotta go show it Seems like you guys expect the national championship every year This year even more so you guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided Uh, it's definitely a difference everyone working harder um, we noticed our last run We most of us don't have any years after this so we gotta go go bigger going home then we're not trying to go home Finish big we know what you guys think of Michigan, but When you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys Took them down to the final minute right you know what I mean? I mean you

You were right there something goes a little different you guys could have won that game against them Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey you guys want to win a national championship, but You played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close So I'm saying uh, we just like work harder. That's that's kind of coach makes uh saying you know Nobody cares. Just work harder like those no one plays Georgia is the same thing Last last play you know they went on the win in the 90s. So We just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine I'll frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national title Uh, of course as you know it's frustrating, but you can't change the outcome You can't really dwell on uh dwell on it. You just gotta you know come back and work harder do things Better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change As that as you get older you kind of learned I thought that was working hard And then you always find out there's a little more Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college I thought friends from here I was working as hard as I could but now I look back at it

I really wasn't working hard at all Compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me. I just I think it's a little higher I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder I think I think we I definitely can rise. I was just you know, we got to get the young guys that come along with us We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies Just Everybody like online D line. We gotta get those younger guys to play and you know get that pieces on the D line and O line and everywhere else so we can last that

Ah, yeah, I did unless we were like winning by like a lot I thought like there are no mom's you know, I can go sit down or something But we're playing them big games like you know, Notre Dame too, or North those kind of games Of course, I wouldn't be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job then Oh, yeah, definitely came back as a came back to animal y'all you haven't really seen it yet But in practice he shows all the time. He's just He's just he's growing right now. He has to work at the kitchen. He just has to get you know in the playbook and things like that You guys are about the exact same size Listen, you're both listening six three you're three twenty seven. He's three twenty six Yeah, I kind of look at him like my my junior, but you know, came in he's gonna be a great player He's got to develop more and getting to play Definitely we got to be leaders um like I say we got to have them play this year

We can't just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right During the all season so they can play and I just played they want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes And they all work hard ever really seem much of something day two when I'm passing on but Throughout the workouts they've been working hard, you know, they they're determined And it looks like they're ready to work I'm poor this A lot of great defense is that you have big athletic defense attack Is that Requiring maybe for great defense Definitely I think if you look at the last

Couple nice and much emperors in winter like seem on North. They didn't know they got too good Detackled to athletic detackers look at Georgia to athletic detackers I think that's definitely need if you want to go on a big run and beat those big teams Oh, if you think about this, they won't be fine by the defense attack. It's like What's Georgia Jordan Davis and Janet Carter? What's Michigan is Chris Jenkins You understand it because you play it, but I feel like some time I don't know are people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to I think so I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detackers Yeah, like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that So When you think about the freakish Yeah, definitely I think I'm top notch when it comes to detackers, but I don't want to you know get a big head

But you know watch it come on I watch you do the drills. I have tape here like you look at my film So I think I'm up there So I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that, but they need a counseling I think they need a councilman, man It's some of them why like just missed it so but I think we work on Joe's matching the hand I think that's uh goes big and uh What we do is a deal on you know just affecting the quarterback is Anyway, you can it's just great for the defense, you know That little thing covering his eye, you know, he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player

I I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball comment. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he's throws it to me I mean they get frustrated, but you know we're team, you know, we're just getting back I Watch a lot of a lot of different backs, man. They just learn to grow for them Uh I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you I'll give you one. I would say Sequan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey Who's the best back in this drive best back in this drive I lead out of the yard. That's y'all that's y'all decision Playing with well Howard when I'm going to remember most

Uh We're a Howard man. He's just such a great lead such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where you know Usually a lot of players they fold man. He was just always calm and relaxed man. He Just the leader that he was man. That's one thing I'm gonna remember about him Yeah, he's Shoot He's gonna be really good man. He's um Coastal I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia Just that one two punch with them both as well. They're gonna be really good backs And so James people's man. He's smart the way that he goes about his business man He's mature and so man. He's growing, you know, just as a person and as a player and so man. Yeah Definitely oh, hi state, you know that running back room is in gray hands You Yeah, um Coach Coach hard line man. He's full of energy man and um he's creative as well You know, I'm just learning from him as well, you know Trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from coach hard line

And so he's definitely creative at what he's he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well And so I think that would do really good So Um just the intensity man then since the other playoffs um every game and it's like the intensity got you know Higher and higher and so um, you know being a but I know in the lead. It's it's the same thing Even if it's not the playoffs. It's every every game and intensity it keeps getting higher and higher And so yeah, you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work Just like Ohio State, you know, I definitely feel like Ohio State. They definitely do a good job of preparing us for that You know, I just remember even before going through this process. I'll I'll talk to a lot of players Before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know for the NFL and so yeah Yeah Yeah, I know I took a couple days off after the um

National championship and then Shoot right after that. I'm writing writing sample Florida and I'm right to it and so um Yeah, I think while trained I trained at um your morph performance. Um, I think it's called the house of athlete or the compound now Um, they did they did a good job, man I'm just um bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man. They were they did a really good job The bucket near know I haven't The Temple of Tampa nice. This is nice. This is a nice city man. Really nice Uh, the 40 to broad and avert Yeah No, man, uh, it's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well And so um, I say you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of will highway It's for the love of the receiver. So I got on the perimeter just making sure you know, um, first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked

And I I told will I think it was before the first game. I was like I got your brother is I said man, I'm not gonna let you get hit, you know, um, and so um, I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um, but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man It's for the love of my brothers, though man making sure that the ball getting their hands, you know The guys on the outside and making sure they get fed In my game uh, you can't really work on this, you know, in all season I feel like it's more so you know, you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run You know, maybe uh, it's really just continuing run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game You know, I want to continue to get better at I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that Yes, I did yes, I did Uh, I did me with um New Orleans as well um, I never got that comparison actually um, I know I'm a comrade sure

Yeah, man, I would come here great great back man um just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man He's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not gonna lie he's smooth Yeah um Inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and um, I say the next one is probably Just an option route out of the backfield, you know, and man and man coverage. You're getting on that linebacker and so Yeah, I say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man and the way that man um, he approaches the game He comes in with the monster, you know, he's gonna work every single week, you know, every practice, you know, he's working hard You know um even shoot it. I don't know every good thing. I think he had a every game was a good game for him

But still man he always has the mentality to mindset that you know, he's gonna come in each and every day He's gonna continue to work and get better man, and so he's definitely man. He's gonna be a special player man. He really is Man a lot of ups and downs man. It's just How you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God is definitely helped me to do better Is this um now have something to lean on now, you know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know, you can run to people, but they still can't it's not too much They can't truly help you, you know, I feel like you know, I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ And so being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you in those moments where it's tough, you know, where it's low and um When you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about He gives you he gives you that peace and comfort, you know Even in those moments man, we're so hard that you can't you can't explain. It's like man

I'm going through this, but like how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so Um Man eight those guys have such a great mentality man. I might just really love their mentality. Especially um Q as well, you know, I talked about Will Howard his leadership, but Quinch, I'm an entity man um That boy just yeah that boy just gifted, you know, you see, you know Sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know, he should have a negative five yards And as soon as you know it, you know, he that running through somebody stiff arm and somebody and she was just a gain of 10 and so Yeah Yeah, man, I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest. He's just gifted, you know, he's he's a big back

You know, he's strong and so um, you know, he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um Yeah, man, it's definitely you know, I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quinch, you know, I want to look at this game is like man Where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San, oh yeah, he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man He's so so accurate and so um, he's definitely man. I know coach day is definitely going to get him right Just you know, um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going to be really good for high state Uh, he's that I know just the quarterback position. Um, I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past They've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um Ask Julian San as well. It's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead to offensive lead to steam Shoot man, he has he has a bill like JK Dobbins and um, I kind of see them, you know similar

Similarities in their game as well and I know JK Dobbins. He was a great running back I feel like he's not talked about his none Um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great. I remember um Before I recruit before I committed here. I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every Every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man He was such a great back and um, I feel like you know when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games. I feel like they play the same and so Appreciate you all y'all You

You You

You You All I got coming in last round new role. So I just attack every day really the same way It's a very rare Oh, I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240. You know like 240 for right now last year. I played it like 236 to 37 I just feel like I'm like Like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all blocks better. It's big. Yeah

You see don't think uh, maybe that's not the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did Even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead of what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more This is gotta get ready to just play there. He more snaps. So But are you are you how would you describe how you how much you're looking forward to it from an age? Now I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. My I'm ready for it The Texas opener. It's a rematch So it's not really two different teams compared to the ones that me all played and stuff How's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for like we're an opener of that magnitude Yeah, we're the opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot We know we got coming so we know we gotta do we'd be prepared for it Um, I think Riley ready to play right now He advanced freshmen like he in the he in the book he stood in like he advanced and his measurements crazy like he saw like the sawline to

What was that process like during last season could you feel yourself You coming more and more ready Yeah, cuz that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up So I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year When you say ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when I say ready I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly. I think I'm there Oh Oh I feel like it's uh It's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year, but I kind of go about it the same way like last year. I was intentional with everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more

And what word Uh, I say I Subscribe my guy. I say like when you think of me you think of like a like a bully like a silver bullet I don't really believe I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play a thing No, I ain't got to be my nickname, but oh Yeah Oh I just like the defense. I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot A lot of the terms is like no, I don't know. I don't really not answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like

I just like it's different. I like what you got going on So Now I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy fun No All right, that's my dog. I'm gonna see it kind of missing a little bit, but yeah, I'm happy fun About the guys who played some last year, but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for That wasn't maybe your national championship How much do you feel that is a guy who certainly contributed last year, but will be in this bigger role and I want to some of your Yeah, I do feel like um Yeah, I do feel like I did win a nadi last year, but like you said my role wasn't same as how's gonna be this year So yeah, I definitely want to go get another one experienced that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place Oh, Bill. Thank you very much Championship unique and you know before and everything like that and also need to get your your teeth knocked in you know first game

You know can't have that happen because then you know really doesn't mean anything And so just the concept mindset to continually get better But on the forefront of my mind and forefront of anyone Here you can ask Yeah Yeah, I know we uh we look at the uh the class stats every now and then I'd be like oh man. They're gone. They're gone No, it's been um it's been good. I mean the guys who are still here I must have definitely kind of bonded together pretty good Yeah Yeah, I mean uh you know, Marv came in the other days like That class 12 and one best class ever and like yeah sure, okay, you know I can't really can't really even you know just sitting to that you know not much left, but um Uh Yeah, I mean to do what we can and do what we can for this team has been really important for all of us and I think Us now realizing where the veterans, you know like with all guys now in the group has been um kind of strange at least to begin with you know because you go from

All those guys you like Donnie and Josh and those guys and old son it's Sunday. We have a team meeting after the um Like the celebration the shoe and all of a sudden the next day that was gone and you know, it's just very different So I think us being able to step up as you know leaders and as As vets to help bring out you know along the team our units and um this program has been really important What are you doing overall? Just a try um Yeah No, it could spend doing really well. I mean I can't go as any goes of work um, he's extremely athletic extremely flexible um You know, he's a young kid obviously he's a lot of um a lot of development a lot of he's a little adversity I'll let's do um, but I think he's going through that right now But he's been um coming out on the better end of it so foreign Um excited to see what he can do because he's very impressive at this young stage

Yeah, extremely excited. I mean Trying to just build that culture back up again. You know like what we had last year I we're trying to do a little stuff here in there and I know I think we're going to Ray race of barbecue I think tomorrow. So shout out Ray race but um But yeah, just trying to get that brotherhood back get that you know that oblock spirit back sure it's coming soon Hopefully But just to kind of get those uh Not those same faces but those same kind of mindsets back and our our group is important right now And it's it's been fun to uh meet new guys and from different backgrounds and stuff like that um and try to Figure out how to you know build that and mend that together. It's been pretty cool now as you are one of the boasters Experience veterans on this team. How much do you feel like you have to be a leader for the students here? Yeah, for sure I mean, I think that comes um I it's obviously I don't feel like it's natural to anyone to you need to leave step up and that's something I've been working on every day and talking to God about um

But I have to understand that and that's something I want to continue to work on. I want to be able to um Be a guy that people can fall back on and like coach was saying before like we're gonna have highs in those But the great players the ones being set are clocks too and I kind of want that's my goal is to be one of those people that you can do that um And I think for especially a very new set of eyes um in the woody um not only coaches but players um I think it's very important to kind of keep that steady um mindset and I think for me learning how to be a leader has been important just uh Not be too hard on myself, but also not let myself kind of slack off in some departments to try to keep um steady Just your story itself though is Testament Of what it means to like for perseverance is tough too though right car some mean You know, that's uh, that's gonna have to stand up from somebody to say that right. I mean just Yeah, what do you what do you think you've shown more than anything else in every card? Yeah, I mean, I've been blessed You know, I've you know, I've been blessed with a lot of adversity. I think that's definitely made me better on the back end and

You know Coach to it coach day always talks about it and you don't You know great leaders aren't you know they can show it But you know a lot of people can show a lot a lot of people can just talk about it But to be about it is important and I think um to be not I've went through a lot of that adversity. I went through a lot of that stuff and My testament you know has been Written in an interesting way But I think for me to take that next step is really important for not only for this team but for myself personally Yeah, uh, he's been doing great. I mean he came in um Big freaking strong. He's fun to be in the weight room with uh, he's uh He's kind of quiet li that that gets kind of my first impression on but he's actually pretty funny dude He he and his dad come over in the kind of joke around and he's so he he's been doing a great All right, I can't talk he's been a great job Um for his size. He has like freaky athletic feet like I watch him do the ladders and I was a lot of massive over on and those things you know doing the little itch shuffle But I mean he he's he was killing it and so he's been doing a great job. I can't wait to see

Um, how he kind of continues to develop um throughout this summer and uh throughout this fall camp Yeah, Piggy's been doing great. I mean he um He stepped up piggy. Yeah. Yeah, everyone refers to this piggy is his username one time nice everyone's piggy Anyway, um, you know pig's been doing great. He uh He's been able to step up and kind of bring around the long those younger guys Um, you know, everyone's kind of trying to figure out their their new roles and I think he's been uh Hey baby do a lot of things big body guy they can catch the bar can run between the talcus um His feet are quicker than once you think for a big guy Yeah, really good feet we get balanced so That's what makes me do that's what I saw For a bigger back like Uh, well tidy and background. No, I don't know many with that type of background But when he's high school we see that they try to play as an age back

Well When you look in the portal for Actually, we try to recruit right back. Does it matter to you if you have two different styles of running Back to me one guy can you sort of think better one guy can use it or is it you'll just say the best running back to you I want to have different style Guys with different Uh, whether they're big guys small guys, class catchers in between the type of runners I know I don't want to take the same thing but they're all different different different I Know I have my own I had joint James at the world And I he's my Grins on Running show y'all In probably way to two ten or two five, which is not very big

But then you got to do with me and some guys you got to know so sticking down his own You play with a lot of aggression down here running so And that could be CJ that could be James or it could be the freshman go Jackson You know, it's just who has nose for getting his own But that's that's one more Just because you're being there We need to get obviously fresh running back to my then bow and I say here, but What do you need to see from a freshman to feel comfortable with that So in the first thing with it on the ball Yeah, well, they would they do they know small detail Take care of the ball Be how good they Pass Because it's the hardest thing by school backs because they're not really here in high school Do you have to understand the past but by all their falls on me? So like they said So that's why I need to see first and everything just I

You feel comfortable with with And I say where they're at or at least you know where their time is Yeah, I think they've been fine. I'd say I tell all the young guys is a marathon. I was My first day first you've been an armor spider special to know you're a spot. I'm special to them They earn the right to be a book. I'll be So they get out down the field so I think they're turning the right towards this first practice Like it wasn't merit some to build off All clean stuff to work on I've seen some of the younger guys in their room develop About like Patrick Houston is coming in this year seeing him working with you guys Joshua making sounds you coming up. I feel like they're definitely picking up quick I mean, I was in their shoes one time and I had Zach Harrison, Jibon today Tyler fried out in front of me so I thought I'm trying to be kind of one of those peers that they work for me

And kind of just given them the steps to get there and I feel like they're definitely picking up quick And they're definitely going to be one of the great Russian So Learned and I love that I asked go stay for I love getting more rest because I just like protecting my craft So I mean Some people may not need it some other people needed but I mean I just like you as me I mean for me it's always just kind of getting my little details perfectly like my steps my footing Kind of just perfecting my toolbox and what we call it my craft and just trying to be a It's like whenever every place you kind of do You

Yeah, um definitely just getting stronger faster everything all the above But uh one of my big things is being a leader and kind of just not trying to look still look up to Jack and JT And kind of have my own kind of leadership and be able to screen people into so I feel like Kind of have a lot of leaders on the b-line and have to be in position So we kind of all kind of just counts off the children and horses So I'm competitive and we love it. We all competitive people we all love to fish each other And that's the way to bring the best out of all this We all just Kind of bouncing off each other to see what one person does and we kind of Bittered into archival box and we all kind of just kind of built in one great thing With Did they approach you that idea and two coach I mean how to get come back because you're a judge x-r years lobby

Okay, get tested So I definitely did it in high school. I was pulled back and a little bit tired and so I feel like It kind of saw what I could do there and coach Wilson I was so he loved watching it too before he loved and uh I feel like you playing that seed and coach day's head and uh coach day kind of just went for it and I tried to do the best I could to do it Is that continuing now? Oh new playbook I did not know you haven't got that far Oh Um, I like to think myself as a football player I can really play any position on the field you need me to just give me a Weakertude to learn it and kind of perfect it and try to do my best for you. hijack you the same thing. Oh, yeah Graphically that's why Kays is talking to coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of sight you and Got it out to have some conversations after jt and jack decided We're gonna wait into those And how did that help you maybe get the like mindset against me? Um definitely kind of seeing it all the way through if you like

People kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it how long the season is now What you got to do to prepare for and what they happen and all that time from here to to then So uh, I feel like we definitely just coached getting me kind of connected and we kind of just talks man on man And uh, he kind of dissent straight to me and I feel like You kind of both are pretty honest and we know we make it up Making each other better every day. We got the four best dns five best dns College football and we're gonna be one of the best d-limes in football You feel like a better player today than you were again Oh, and I feel like I've taken big steps in my roles of just being responsible and being more of a leader and uh, kind of stepping up and taking a step to Kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and uh, I feel like I'm kind of helping out more But I mean the season goes by so fast already So when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow, it's already week 10 so now it's kind of

Gives you more time to kind of enjoy it kind of save for it because Yeah, definitely definitely gonna have that the mental stability to handle all those weeks all those practices 2017 I mean he doesn't have to talk about we know about it We've seen it every day. We watched the film. We see them all working together. We know what it could be We know we could become so we know we we're right at the same at the right place at the right time And god wanted us to be here and he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and Just perfect our craft together and I feel like we are just great individuals and we come together at something special I guess we have with I feel like I've made the plays that came to me and that's really awesome control

um Had more opportunities as years progressed and been in spots to be around the ball um, but the expectation was to come here and contribute to the team and try to help find a way to Push the team to win games at high level And to be better than They were actually and for me to play better than I was actually So really just coming to try to grow with myself and with the team So that was my big goal and I feel like I've done a good job and the team has done a good job progressing through the game getting better So yeah, that's all I'm saying about that Okay, the right thing may have not been wrong Yeah, okay, I'll just stand here right now. Just feel like like a different season What does it feel like for you going into playoffs? You know, you know, you'll get the girl you wanted necessarily to read your sheets but here you are You know, right? I mean, what what does that sense that you have right now? It's different About the working sheets. I mean everybody wants to say it's a new season in terms of because if everybody's

Zero and zero right now you'll be when you keep going to be losing or done So I mean, but genuinely like that's how you could play every game You know, they play every game like it's your last game So for me, I don't think it's really only difference. We have to go play I love every game that can't be based upon So I would say in terms of that no, you just have to play the game and play the game is there What feels difficult is defense right now going into this so y'all feel even more We know I feel like we progress throughout this season We didn't make a change after Game six because we lost and we didn't play well that game and I feel like we'd grow from that and add to a better place and Over these past two weeks off just realizing okay, these are the things that we messed up throughout the year

These are what we need to face these are what this team is trying to exploit on us So just really going back to everything and seeing what can do better for this kind of game and for the next time Let's go questions Tell me I feel like it makes the game more And make you receive it And it makes it truthfully like those guys have to do their job and these guys have to do your job You got to be able to stop the run with the people they have in the run fit and yet to be able to stop the path They have out there So that's that's what they do and they do it are really low So it's gonna be tough to go

All right, it allows you to get your feet Senator by that So earlier just a ability to see the formation see what keys that you have before the play and have knowledge of your job and not really thinking Being able to play and not make during the games is a really big thing So whenever you can get the call that faster and play at high level and play without You So I definitely didn't high school. I was pulled back and a little bit of tidan So I feel like they kind of saw what I could do there and coach Wilson Honestly, he loved watching it too before he left And uh, he felt like he playing that seed and coach day's head and coach day kind of just went for it and Try to do the best I could to do it. Is that continuing now? You know, do anything in the screen but I did not know you and got that far Um, I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any position on the field you need me to just give me a

Weakertu to learn it and kind of perfect it and try to do my best for you. Hey Jack need the same thing. Oh, yeah Graphics that's why Can you just talk into coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and so it's not you Out to have some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back We're going into those from your perspective and how did that help you maybe get the right mindset against me Um, definitely kind of seeing it all the way through I feel like people kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it How long the season is now what you got to do to prepare for and what to happen in all that time From here to to that So uh, I feel like we definitely just coached J and me kind of connected and we kind of just talks man-on-man and Be kind of descent straight to me and I feel like We kind of both are going on and we know we're making it yada Making each other better every day. We got the four best dns five best dns honestly in the college football And we're going to be one of the best d-lines in college football. Are you sure the better player today anymore again this season?

Oh, I feel like I've taken big steps in my roles of just being responsible and being more of a leader and Kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and Feel like we're kind of helping out more Sounds bizarre, but I mean the season goes by so fast already So when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow, it's already week 10 So now it's kind of gives you more time to kind of enjoy it kind of save it because Yeah, definitely definitely gonna have that the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practice Last question right here I mean he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day

We watched the film you see them all working together. We know what it could be We know we could become so we know we we're right in the same Got the right place at the right time and god wanted us to be here and he knew me One of us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and Just perfect our craft together and I feel like we all are just great individuals and you come together Great you get like good coaches will believe you and I give you the tools to go out there and just play with confidence You know not there doubting those stuff like you got your teammates who got your back like our first play when I got up there to see Like when to sail Like personally they say it's like nowhere. He just got to play with confidence. You know you know the tools It's usual tools. He's got to make a play and we're about to play coming to you Now we're just so time to show job. You just do it and then like say what goes well He's like he gives me He puts me in a position like like the drills we put in the work you put in the 101 So just go out there and perform at the highest level. How much better are you right now? Then maybe last month and for spring practice. I mean I got way better just because I've

I've transitioned a little bit to the inside. Nick was possible. I'm like now. I seem to like catch catch technique in his And often covers not it's not always press at the line. So it's like not maybe like move my feet move my hands like See like what I gotta do just like just a case. I gotta go back in corner. I can I'm playing off now. I'm very confident out there Do you think that Nick was an actual fifth of you or have you had the kind of Consumption yourself to try to I mean, I feel like it's natural for me because I feel like me Individually, I'm a fast learner. I'll pass learner like coaches help us like learn fast And like because they're always honest about the techniques and stuff So you like you play down like you pick up on all the things and then like when we get out here They coach us to like the techniques always you just go out there and play like fast spot And it's been like I would like versatility. You're able to go out there and just compete Is that where you kind of stuff is spring or you've been kind of out there? Uh So I really been stuck there this spring a little bit right Whenever you get it's like other things I just bounce out there every once in a while just like have just have fun

See if I still got it every once in a while so it's as good as go out there to compete at most spots You mentioned the technique what technique You know tips and things if you had to pick up and learn from walking from I mean, you just always like you are because what preaches are asking hands like see it You see it move your feet and then get your hands on the man. So it's like when you get like Will you out there? You able to like process like the way the receiver comes off the ball looking at the hips and seeing like the way he moving Are you able to pick up like the row concepts you can get out of that like so it's being like under coach walls for me Like as a player and just like him breaking out football to you like one-on-one It's like very beneficial The hardest part of making that transition from outside in sense I really say like the corner you got your cover two you cover three you cover one Like it's easy but you got nickel now so many responsibilities you got to see like the row concepts You got to be able to process like I ain't those rows faster than what you got to do in that corner and just be able to like everything

Quid like your transition you got like you got to move fast Got to learn to move fast. It's like game recognition I Definitely say I definitely say has because how you get to like college? Just a little bit different high school. We don't got to worry about things like that when I want you get to like college in school I just like go recognition of plays and I can Know your jobs the way like the coverage is supposed to be played understand all your teammates or plus if you haven't feel like it is easy Very talented Crazy Great teammate very supportive It's like God actually want to rob because you know we can feed off your energy because you can see like we make it plays I like he like I do me it's like I do two pointers So he's like maybe after what God's like that would get energy and make you play a little bit harder And then like when you make a play is out there might just helping you like it's being out there with him He's a good player one of those guys

What is it about one bill that gets you to play it? Big question And then like like tracks a big part of it So actually in a good everybody that I run track like it's mandatory You don't really get a choice Get out here and I know how to compete and then like you like getting bills that mental toughness into you so like Have you like if you're down you got to be mentally Life's not gonna be easy. So it's like being out here being out here When you down just pick yourself back up. I mean that's what he is down to me. That's it We as well. Did you how would you describe the mentality of the defense right now? Yeah hungry. Thank you. I mean We know how the last last time when you know we We had to chip on our shoulder. I mean we were right and high before that game and we took that loss And we came back had to make a couple changes

But I think we understand what you know everything's at stake right now You know just fighting to where another house stage jersey for next year And that's what's on stake and just to be able to represent this this This state and this This team. I mean we understand what's as what's on the line and you know We're just hungry and blessed that we get this opportunity playing the Rose Bowl Right behind your Adam King. What do you remember most about walking off the field in Eugene? I mean there is a I don't think anybody imagined it imagine us losing You know I didn't That's for sure and I think after that it was a Kind of head deep Understanding that man we still there's still a lot of ball left to be played I mean you can let it sting for a little bit But you know if you let it carry over too long then you know there there goes there goes your whole Season by I think we did a great job of just Understanding coming together in this room right here Not being afraid to display or hold accountability for one another and you know as as that happened

He came back regrouped and you know we just Going right now and and I'm just blessed for those specific moments, you know Losing I mean no one wants to lose but the the testimonies and the things are taught within those little situations speaks volume Yeah, I mean that's that's my boy. He's in the r2x club too, but You know Keata I mean every time there's his numbers call he goes out there and makes the most of it No matter Where where we at in the game when he goes out there he's just hungry He wants to go make plays and and you know we see it in practice. So it's not surprising to us Bill Rebino, it's on this back Don't give us obviously very elusive in our talent and he's not very tall How important it could be to just kind of stay in your

Past rush lanes and collect a lot of balls and kind of make a difference that way Yeah, I think it just comes on being disciplined No one who you're playing against like you said don't he's a he sure but he's very elusive. I mean he can He is making throws. I mean he get out the pike and do everything So I think for us we just have to discipline and just continue to just Meet with coach Jay me with the coach knows and understand how we can just eliminate that What should about you and Jack? I mean Your personality seem to be a little different you're more on the quiet side. He's How about you play together four years both five store guys kind of describe your relationship with him Friendship with him. Yeah, just kind of how you complement each other. Man. That's my brother like he said We're different but very alike Think outside. I'm like you said he's louder. I'm quiet, but you know what's wrong that feels like the same person We'll do anything for this team. You know, we'll die for our players and we'll give everything we got

Yeah, fall camp Yeah, sometimes go over there. So over there We have our share of days when we when I'm neat. He's neat or you know, we might both be messy, but we do a good job Yeah, I'd probably say I would better kick the jack though When you're playing a team for the second time and that was almost a season to go by now How much of are you at square one with with the scouting and preparation or how much do you take from that game? How much do you avoid taking so that you don't have any preconceived notions of what you're going up against? I say it's pretty 50 50. I mean that game like you said it was a while ago, but at the same time They elevated as a team and so did we so we understand that they they had they made some changes for sure You know, there's team there's a certain density we can take back from that game But we also understand that they went on a low run after that and we can see that they elevated as an offense

So we just got to continue to watch those games dissect the other games and just continue to see What stands out and what they change from the for the past game? We got a couple calls on zoom that will wrap up with first we have Nick Hamilton from nightcast media Nick Just wanted to ask you basically about the synergy of this defense and how you guys were able to Not only celebrate the triumphs but get through the adversity be able to be this top notch defense that you are in college football today Here you beat the question one more time. Yeah, no problem Want to ask you about the synergy you are we're able to develop a course of the season obviously celebrating the triumphs But also getting through the adversities to where you go all are the top notch defense that you all are today Yeah, I mean like you said that we went through a lot of trials to trials But there's also there's a lot of things we can take away from all the wins and losses And from those those wins we understood that hey, we can be the best defensive country and from those losses

We understand that there's still Things that need be fixed and I think when you take all that in at once That comes out to the the comical or the comment talk which is you can there's always learning points everywhere And depending how we dissect those games or how we just continue to come as one and elevate You know, we continue to just Collect all those those learning points and just continue to grow from them Man, one final question Joey Coffin Columbus dispatch Joey JT what have what have you guys done better and the Especially in the Tennessee game and just latinist season you think about turning some of the the pressures that you've got on a quarterbacks in the sacks and getting a home in some of those situations Yeah, I think it was more just uh understanding the defense as a whole understanding everybody's job Think as the season went on we get to understand that you know, we have to know who's going on the back And we have to know who's going on the linebacker crew to understand uh What plays we have room of freedom and I think once we understood that and got a better understanding of the of everybody's job

I mean it it showed this play because you know everybody else we should is doing it's not like the lineback's know what they're doing Uh the corners and be I they know only their job. I think we all know each other's job and we continue to ask each other questions Um on you know if they're listening how they can get to the quarterback and you know if I'm dropping and playing quarterbacks Well, I can ask Cody on how to open field tackle it. So you know, we just we just kind of lean on each other's understanding because uh, you know Like I said like Denzel knows how to play corner bend it and I know how to play corner So you know, he has more more wisdom at that position than I do Thank you very much Uh definitely a little bit of both Um, obviously I just want to the team to win. I think we got a chance to win. No, definitely towards it into the stretch that last drive Um, I was a couple plays here a couple calls. They maybe should have gotten but um I think the frustration more so it just comes from no one's into win or anything You said he was a little surprised how much attention you got right away from the defense. How about you?

Yeah, definitely. We maybe killed a more one of ones kind of how the game play was set up um Getting got different covers out of cloud to my side and this is kind of how the game goes I was the process then Where whatever reason just just see that. Yeah, definitely um especially in college a lot of the game fans defensively were taking you like um You know, we had a lot of success at a high-speed with one of the boys having different um the weapons and kind of still get the victories and um I was yeah, you continue to do better jobs doing it here My heart's in the process been like post-game Getting on the same page with Kyler You guys exchanged text or you guys in the film? Yeah film them definitely um kind of asking what did I see there kind of go over and play and um That's how I give him what I saw and kind of different feedback there Mark I guess we're asking questions about the previous game bar. Are you the type of guy to let a game like that winger or how do you flush it?

You got to move on got to move on some long season guy. What 16 more of them. Hopefully no I can stay healthy throughout the year and Just continue to build and get better each week You guys did so much work throughout the offseason to get on the same page How different is it when you get into that regular season? Yeah, it's totally different. It's totally different You can do a lot of things, you know, insert some shorts and then once you go out there put practice and you got pads on You do like the joint practice we do with the colds, but there's nothing like actually going out there No live action and really trying to get the same case so I think that relationship will continue to develop and we better Yeah, I think definitely definitely um like I said, I was kind of our first live action together So can we continue with you when your early impressions on the film together? Yeah, but now obviously I have a death respect. No jg's call or preseason I was to be all feel really healthy. That's kind of That's the most important thing. I was a good all healthy even going for it so

Marvin what are your early impressions of the Rams? What do you think of the Rams? Yeah, I mean they're a good team. They're good physical team. I got a new lot of new guys upfront I think that's kind of where they're strong suit is Kind of a little different to Buffalo come more of a little match coverage So I'm excited to build this When the belts take taking one of my Wasn't many of them Wasn't many of them so I thought I'd be good. I'm just where you think game versus just playing you know not get any preseason game actually It's definitely definitely thinking a lot out there and um You know, I think I'll come with reps. I think to think and less and just going out there and playing definitely Tomoreps and something you know I'll get better at but Definitely I was taking a lot of Yeah, I mean you just got to team you get open for You know yourself making yourself available on the one the ball does good way making the play Um, this he's just taking you away. That means other guys are having a chance to get open

So that's not kind of how I look at it. It's no longer since you know offense Uh, hopefully sooner or later. I think um, I'll continue to see. Let's see. I don't think we're in a bad place right now At all obviously I don't really think that but uh just a live reps will continue to grow and show Go on Little my whole life on the NFL team captain like specifically and I felt I wasn't a captain in high school Wasn't a captain in college But I'm gonna jump across high schools. Yeah, I feel like I'm not gonna be a captain like it's that I felt But that would be awesome, you know, but you know that happens. I'd be great, but not either way

I want to assume a World as a captain from Perspective the guys Yeah, I mean I can't say that um, I mean I guess the biggest thing is that I felt it has felt Like how you used to move past, but it didn't take just the first day. OTAs it took Train and left and right once this season and because I know what it was gonna be So a lot of Dress Just to get back to feeling like myself for day one OTAs And then that whole first week But now like today specifically just changing some small things with my feet that is it talking about the long coach Some things I'm doing my feet to get to that to sell that traditional angle that I love to sit on Thought even I thought I felt thought I felt great already I felt even better Besides tomorrow now I'm getting my feedback and how I like the right side on the left side

So I'm excited. I mean obviously I feel like In the league whether I left the right you're still going against premier guys obviously your high expectations for the left and right tackle But um, there's definitely like the A level of energy and like expectations definitely taking the human side because now can either fly side That's the as the tackle you know, so um So yeah, I would say in terms of communications far as this Outside of facility just stuff like that like really creating that but tackle quarterback Bonnie the mom to be all I think has been something that's Cool You know, yeah, I've been training both. I've been training both, you know, I I asked after the season honestly We'll talk you some things in and I just got a text having what happens with the free agency Then so I was like, you know what I have O season right tackle

So if I get the word I'm going I'm staying right tackle I'll do what I did before I'm built on that bus. I was almost trying to let tackle now As if I'm going to be left tackle And I'd rather do that than trying on right time with the company And do the left tackle You know what I mean? So I'm like, let me just prepare an advance. I'll say yes, you know I think occasionally on third down there be a lot of twists And I think that was my mindset for like the first half of the season Like I didn't have to go into game with surprise like oh my gosh I did that I try to figure it out. Okay, like This is this is the type of rush man again. This is how this guy usually rushes If I get the vibe this is how the ends like the rush you know tackles that first year guys we got the premier patch on Already, you know what it was gonna be already, you know The every stud and honestly just knowing that's kind of an advantage to so you're not you're not you're not oh The problems with my side

Who's ever airing off of it? Three plays in a row in two minutes. I do that You know what I mean? I'm watching more everybody else. He rarely goes out there He's gonna throw down I was like you know He's gonna pick me you know what I mean. So Fact it's kind of it's also kind of the manager away, but it's also exciting like okay, I'm gonna get the hardest look you know those are real real reps You know the day so Really out on our way to kind of process And I was like hey when they tell me Let me know about I'm just gonna train it. I was training all left To TAs I guess if I didn't hear anything about TAs out of came in like So you know what I mean? Cuz just like I'm cool with training both continue. I would have been cool training both continually But I feel like anybody any position will be like okay You want as soon as possible

So your hips settle there Your hands so then So we've been hard to get your work ball very healthy No They're definitely but in terms of the development Um, it's definitely a lot faster Stay on one side, but I think having that the weeks that we had the transitional season was over And the bike was fine, you know good Put up Things at a time right now, but when it comes back on the show in the one house. I've got a house not too far from So I told him I got the house like I got a yellow side Have any stock or anything doesn't mean anything so We're we have to play on Friday and that's really all that matters We're gonna take two more from zoom before turning it back

I first one's gonna come from steven from pleveland.com go ahead Well, it's the fun. I'm sorry Hey Caleb, we've seen you were talking about the Ohio State Office the success that they've had I'm obviously Jeremiah's been a big part of that. What's it been like this year going against him in practice and you know after doing that Does it surprise at all to see him having a success? He's had as a freshman No, it doesn't bring surprises It was pretty pretty easy to see the talent that he has and the blessings that God has put on his plate But it's always a it's always a challenge going against Jeremiah and other receivers and mecca and carnival practice And even guys like Brandon and his impression Rogers. They they do a great job bringing looks for the defense and create a lot of obstacles I found a question from zoom is gonna come from Dan Hope Go ahead Dan Hey, love you Quint had a lot of success against you guys when you played him at Alabama last year Just what do you remember from going up against him last year and what can you learn from that game?

Really smart quarterback knows how to operate their offense Puzzle ball in the right places and then coast arkies and does a great job putting him in positions to win All right back to you Rob all our Columbus dispatch Caleb GT and Jack land opposite sides are they is opposite off the field as they are on in terms of personality and just People they are They're offices, but they they're also like One of the closest people I know they spend a lot of time together They've come from different sides of the country so they're different people for sure, but they're both Really great people are really great men I'm sorry spec both Um I'm not gonna do that. I'm sorry You'll throughout the throughout the season we would always see you on Wednesday nights you and lathe will be some of the last people off the field

For the things that you're working on after practice always the same is it a routine? What are the things that you're hoping to get out of those extra moments after practice? I was some routine pretty much the the keys that we need to go into the game with and then also changes Week to week on based on what our jobs are gonna put us into doing um, so Every week we go through the same things and then we add certain things that we do for the week for the what the team that we play is gonna ask us a Bill we're been on Columbus dispatch Yeah, I already got one here. Oh, okay Joey Gothman, Columbus dispatch killin when Takes us uses play action and they use action to prepare what's what do they do? They do a really good job with iCandy And it creates a lot of challenges for defense in order to see if it's runner pass and see Because that's when they're gonna take those shots to as well So really just having great eye discipline seeing the line is seeing what is telling us

So that's miss what it does He breaks Nick Walker letterman roll Hey, you guys had a pretty good game plan for Tyler Warren when you guys played him You guys have another Texas has a good tight end and gunner. How what do you guys kind of do to limit him and how to what do you think about his game? Uh, he's a really good player. He makes a lot of plays and he's has a lot of receiving yards this year Um, so really just do the same thing we've done all year just be disciplined in our responsibilities and if you're on them you got to make a play when it comes Right Well a lot of really good athletes. I played with Isaiah Bond last year who's a really great receiver a lot of speed And then all the receivers have made a lot of plays So I mean everybody has to be on that peasy queue as if we're gonna stop them and have a do a really good job

Uh, from all here, Tim May letterman roll Yeah, Kale, but you moved up here. I don't have to get to you when you move it basically a year ago and stuff It's a little bit of a leap of faith because you know you know how many athletes are on this team get athletes to stuff Why don't you really feel this defense come into its own and then then pass that man watching in Rosebowl Your recognition of what was coming seem to be on point did it feel like that? I mean you personally Um, I think the defenses played really well throughout the season I think we've had games where we played better and games where we haven't put it all together, but I think that's how all defenses are So I can't say there's a certain moment where I think we put it together um But Was it second party question? You seem really on point uh Against Oregon about recognizing what was what was coming. I mean you were really active out there Directing and things like that did it feel like that? I guess I feel like As Luke said earlier the preparation that we put in goes into that and just feeling comfortable

And what we're doing comfortable and what we're seeing with the other teams. I feel like that's a that allows us to play fast and Can me and Lankton to communicate to everybody else? Do I miss anyone's questions here? Steve how long and 24 hours on this board? Yeah Caleb, but you came to high state to play for national championship And there were a lot of ups and downs throughout the season Just to be in this position the last four teams still live just you feel validated by that and did you always have Faith that this is how it was gonna turn out? I came to a high state to become a better player and to help the team be as good as it can be not to win a National championship not like that wasn't the only goal for me coming here Really just wanted to be in the team and be my be with the brotherhood But it's a it's a great feeling being in the final four and being with the team and Everything that comes with that, but it's a blessing to be here And one final question, Boomer Benwin's club is this guy. Yeah, I did want to call up when I talk to you At the back of the game you said when they scored their first and second touchdown you were really hot on the sidelines

What was what was your message to the team and you know that's a good off that they're gonna score against most people Why were you so hot really just because we didn't execute which let them score so We've done that a lot which is something we can't do in these big games and these games where It's when I go home so we got to make the plays when they come and Yeah, not competitive excellence as coach Dases make the play where your numbers call I feel like they're definitely picking up quick. I mean I was in their shoes one time and I had Zach Harrison Javonte Tyler Freidel I'm trying to be kind of one of those peers that they work for me and kind of just Give them the steps to get there and I feel like they're definitely picking up quick and they're definitely gonna be one of the great rushmen JT and Jack probably need a ton of their experience So you have some real opportunities for you Is there a difference in the work for you to get in through Apple champ with me? The last couple

Um, I feel like all the camps I've definitely gotten a big course load and I love that so I asked coach J4 I love getting more reps because I just like protecting my craft so I mean Some people may not need it some other people needed but I mean I just like to give me a For me it's always just kind of getting my little details perfectly like my steps my footing kind of just perfecting my toolbox What we call it and the craft and trying to be a second winner every place we're trying to do Yeah, um definitely just getting stronger faster everything all they above But uh one of my big things would be a leader and kind of just not trying to look still look up To Jack and JT kind of have my own kind of leadership and be able to bring people into it So I feel like we kind of have a lot of leaders on the D line and we had to be in position So we kind of all kind of just count off the children and others

Um, it's been competitive and we love it You're all competitive people we all love to fish together And I feel like the springing the best out of all is feel like we're all just Kind of bouncing off each other to see what one person does and the kind of Better than the archival box and we all kind of just kind of build one great thing You have a lot less you So I definitely didn't high school. I was pulled back and a little bit of tidying So I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there and coach Wilson Honestly, you love watching it too before you left and uh I feel like he playing that seed and coach day's head and coach day kind of just went for it And uh try to do the best I could to do it Oh New playbook I did not know yeah, and got that far Um, I like to think myself as a football player I can really play any position on the field you need me to just give me a weaker two to learn it and kind of perfect it and

Try to do my best for you. Kid Jack do the same thing. Oh, yeah Graphically that's why He's talking to coach Johnson on Tuesday about so with the conversations and so it's not you and Got out to have some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back Way into those perspective and how did that help you move you good the right mindset? I guess Definitely kind of seeing it all the way through you feel like People kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it how long the season is now What you got to do to prepare for and what happened and all that time from here to to that So uh, I feel like we definitely just coached in me kind of connected Maybe kind of just talks man-to-man and uh Be kind of just straight to me and I feel like I'm kind of both a person Making each other better every day. We got the four best the ends five best the ends College football and we're gonna be one of the best D-wines in football I don't even feel like a better player today than you were in this year Oh, I feel like I'm taking big steps in my roles of just

being responsible and being more of a leader and Kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in and Feel like we kind of helping out more But I mean the season goes by so fast already So I'm you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow it's already week 10 So now it's kind of it's you more time to kind of enjoy it kind of save it because It's your worst bid on your powder the first month of the year right? I mean there's a mindset Yeah, definitely definitely gonna have that the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practices How much is Larry talking to you guys around the pit? Last question right here I mean he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watch the film We see him all working together. We know what it could be. We know we could become so we know we we're right in the same

At the right place at the right time and god wanted us to be here and he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together And be able to bounce off and just perfect our craft together and I feel like we all are just Great individuals and we come together. It's something special Doing it what with what the deliberations surprise is even a conversation like You should always be live. Let's tell you tell you tell you play football. So Obviously, there's a proximity to the season which is a little reckless. I understand that But in spring when you're competing for jobs. I mean if I'm a quarterback I'm messing be live so I can show him how I'm different than you know Anyone that can't be live, you know, I mean They're always trying to find an edge and if you're never fully alive I don't think you fully give guys opportunity to to be who they want to be or who they can be so That being said You know, I will cast my vote, but that will not be my final decision on that But I will cast my vote the guys have handled it well It was good for all parties involved and more we can do that the better but I'm sure that is coming to a close here very quickly

Jeremiah off the field we saw after Practice on the side of the day that the mob that came to Get autographs and things When you're working with him on all these things you're talking about but also dealing with the life of being one of the biggest names in college football How do you help mentor him in that aspect? Yeah, I mean It's a blessing to be able to be in a position where you know can provide insight or I wouldn't say recommendations, but just no give perspective What he chooses to receive the first perspective or not one and I mean he always does, but which is fine But to be in that position is really humbling that being said Um, he does a really good job on his own. He doesn't need checked on too much Uh, he's really done a great job again the way he was raised and his morals and Humble would always sign and taking pictures. I'm always trying to be the bad guy for him because he's not gonna be And uh, just says again more about his character But he's not the only I mean, he's not the only guy any guy would kind of do that we have a group full of awesome young guys

But Jeremiah has done a great job with it hang on it and it's definitely growing at an exponential rate to say the least uh, but Um, I think he's built for it and he's been handled at a high level Uh, but oh those around them were trying to help my little bit First freshman to this black striker Yeah, I mean That's a good question. I think that uh, uh, you know Freakly, you know, I I don't know. I'm not really fully evolved about that. So I can be but I wasn't you know, I think that People on the outside would be defense or even coach day or anybody brought it to my attention You know, we're kind of just going about practice and that's our expectation and make plays not make mistakes Um, and he was starting to make a lot of a lot of plays consistently I think the consistent level that he's been as a person uh, being on Being on time and and doing what his job description on each play and the ball is coming your way and making some big plays and

You know, it starts it starts being seen by your peers and your peers are asking for it They start barking get a stripe off all those kind of things that's the ultimate sign of respect. I think uh, with your peers Um, you know, go to your bat And he's not going for his bat. No one out people are bringing it to your position coach I think it uh speaks volumes of the uh, the general respect that you're earning Through the process. So I think it's something like that happened and uh, you know, as well as there based on his peers and the other coaches Ryan Day was talking about how impressed he's been this spring with Austin cerebelled all that he's been able to do and Tyler bones talking last week about the importance of the cross-training and all that that goes into that How much have you seen Austin benefit from this spring and everywhere that he's been and helping with peace You think he's going to be regardless of where he fits on this offensive line. Yeah, I think Austin's been awesome I mean he literally you know what what we say. He played every spade every position We just move around you know and handles it and you know He's one of those guys. I feel like you watch film over and over again day after day

His name never really gets brought up, you know, in a good way like you know the online your name gets brought up when Usually not going as well, you know, I mean, they're literally at the point of the tack on every single play So there's nowhere to hide and so But Austin when his name is brought up is like man, how's a good job. Right good job pass off that combo Whatever it's it's always positive and They're really impressed with him you start in the winter to a great job through the winter Again continue to build their respect for his peers and then he's gonna good job really good job Just being very consistent to spring Since you've been working more with the whole offense When comes the quarterback play What is grown in your I don't know appreciation of that position and what those guys have to do and go through What do you think more about those guys versus maybe what you thought before? It's just a wide receiver guy. Yeah, I mean I mean, there's no just a wide receiver guy. If you are just a wide receiver guy You won't be a very later on It's all about it's all about quarterback play, you know, so I think in that same world though to the point is that

You know, in order to be a great receiver or a great receiver or you know receiver guy whatever you want to call it There's only one page just the quarterbacks page. So everything is based off them there Whether be their progression their timing the stresses they have is what we're trying to minimize so If you don't fully understand the quarterback play it's hard to you know maximize receiver play. I think you know That being said Yeah, I mean, I'm so always learning, you know, I think that I can't say anything's jumped out massively right now but I would say that You know, I guess I would say that the preparation level. I mean the what is required to execute and play at a high level It's just not capable in the a lot of time right? I mean, there's only so much time where I'll be with players If you're not willing to spend you know your own time getting prepared for practice to be To maximize one's ability. There's a good chance. You're not going to maximize your ability So you know other positions. I mean, all lines same thing. I mean receiver play sometimes can

Can you know get away from it? We do a great job studying and being in the room extra for sure But the requirement of a quarterback to know the fixed protections The BR run game coordinator based on the calls, you know, he gives him different checks. I mean, there's so much they need to know and frankly The you know the old lines only as good as the quarterback the receiver's only as good as the quarterback They're often silly as good as the quarterback and it's our responsibility to put guys in position to maximize with their capable of maximizing But they're inability to notice that they need to spend extra time outside the a lot of time I think it's critical and the amount that it takes I guess I'll maybe a little naive to but uh the guys are doing a great job doing it At the time just a couple more coaches got a meeting uh rob all our Columbus dispassion Brian you know get reached the mount top. You got a banner out there national champs I think you keep these guys grounded Being in the moment looking ahead Not back Do you are you tougher on them because no, I think that I mean I

I think we have a lot of guys You know what? I think it's understanding that we were trying to build the map to get to where you wanted to get to But now that we have the map Doesn't mean we've traveled the path so like we know what it looks like the guys that are here know what it's supposed to look like the guys before us Say I'm believe we'll example how to get to where you want to get to So the focus is on trying to you know replicate what they just did and how they operated Can't say we've done that right now. So it's very easy to stay motivating because they already know it's not good enough frankly And so uh the last thing they want to do is put in a ton of effort and then not reach their goals. So Motivation I don't think is needed. I think there is a catching up of those and maybe Aren't quite sure what it takes you know and but overall Motivation is not what we've needed clarity of message is definitely what we've been focused on and uh I think the message is being received so Not concerned about you know motivation and and the uh

Looking back if you will I think everyone's pretty pretty focused on being forward and knowing we haven't accomplished anything So Who would you say is the leader of your water see me right now? I would say Cornell Tate Brennan inness Probably done the most Most outspoken you know in the room Uh Yeah, I would say they're doing a good job. Those are probably the two guys that would jump out my room. Yep I mean, Brennan he's been in trouble. Obviously Carnot taking on that role. Yep more being more vocal. He's a good football for how to send this thing is that you do that but That process for him and becoming a more vocal leader to for you to say that on What's the question? Carnot like what do you think like the growth? Uh, yeah, I mean he's I think he's pulled guys aside, you know, it had one-on-one conversations with him uh He's locked in uh, you know, just I think he saw the impact that a mecha made in the role he played and to think that you're gonna lose that

And then be a better group probably doesn't mathematically make sense to him so Someone's got to settle in that role and one and on respects him too He knows he's capable of it And uh, it's just the desire and the appreciation I think to be at the order table now or the overhead and uh and appreciate the way I met caprily went about his his business and so um he probably valued that appreciated that uh And he's just being assured we still have that Final question. Better than it was promised this back Could you assess the running back room? I think it's pretty much assumed both those running backs to see Jay and uh A James think that's hand in systems probably the way you got to go again How do you think it's working and you see third and maybe fourth guys Up in the mirror. I think that you know college football Uh, NFL football any football really you got to have depth in running back room. I think that It's very apparent in the NFL. It's usually a two-back system You know very very rarely is it one guy Uh, but in college. I think we saw the benefit of that last year

The ability to compliment each other is really important The ability for us to identify what they do great and put them in good positions to be what they are Uh, what's our best that I should say? Uh, it's really important as a coaching staff It's been very impressed with uh, even the younger guys Sam and And in a bow and the way they've come along Consistencies so what you're chasing right you're always able to that's why you're here But how often you do it ultimately dictates how much you play so But uh overall I think locksmen on them. They'd understand the standard and in past pro and uh, not being a guy We got to sell them out because you can't pass protect so We were blessed What especially with tray last year and and quenchon so um, but no these guys are done a good job. They're competing They've been very coachable You know, it's it's shown a blog on film um, but uh, yeah, I mean it's always hard on backs Every opportunity to get to go live and and break tackles really He's the most feedback on what these guys are capable of. You're just playing tag out there

You never get any art unless you shouldn't But the running backs um, you know on contact days have done a good job James has done a really good job growing really excited about him everyone's really excited about him and cj So, uh, you know, I think ultimately now group the uh hug will uh go with the group beat is probably based on you know The top the bottom rising, right? I mean you're gonna have some guys at the top, but you know, where's the floor and so I think uh Uh, bow and sam is guys done a really good job and many some more guys to get healthy More more guys on campus, but uh very encouraged And you saw him improve and then um McLean, I think is a is a great plus. I mean he is a guy that has Football intelligence. He's Picked it up, you know, he's kind of Of those incoming freshmen who still should be in high school He's a guy. I think you're gonna point to and you can see right now. He's gonna be a player Over to the right Austin Ward the podcast

A healthy Mitchell melton. How does he fit in for your defense? What does he bring to it? Yeah, he's You know, Mitch is that combination player, you know, and um In our four down You know, he's a guy that can do a lot of things Drop fold in there and make plays you see some of that all the time really athletic um, you know We're kind of loaded at that end position. So He's gonna play there, but You know, like I said last year and we We haven't needed it, but he's a guy you would point to along with C. J. Hicks You know for the for the long season um People get injured you get a little light inside. It's always hard on the defensive tackles But if you're gonna play with three ends You know that's Mitch is a guy who definitely can do all that he has that Over to the left Joey Kaufman Columbus dispatch Jim you've talked about this before, but I think in past years Where you're going up against a really talented receiver group offense to encourage your players to it's not okay if they give up

To the play and to go nearly almost the first half today where you The offense didn't get them the end zone till the late in the second half just And you guys have guys down the second area just what he what did you think of of that sort of trend and how it's evolved in the way you guys almost Should have made the first time. Yeah, I think it's become um You know an expectation now um, you know our DB's you know our BIA best in America we Led the country and past defense right I think It was 96 what I what I got here and it was number one last year. So They've they've taken that spirit. So it's a competitive spirit. It's an expectation now It doesn't matter who we're going against. It's it's they view it as a standard So that was good to see in the first first half Over to the right Spencer Holbrook, Vladimir Rohe Jim we've talked about safety changing the way that you play defense and the Leo and the linebackers But how much does having the depth that you guys have a defensive tackle change the way that you can do things defensively. Yeah, I mean

You're gonna play to your strengths You know, and that's that's my job is to What do we have and what do we do best and When you have defensive tackles, but I've said it before and it helped our defense so much last year When you have defensive tackles that actually make tackles Which is what we have right now It changes the way you call a game You know, it certainly helps you be um In better shape on explosive plays on the back end You don't have to do a whole lot to help those guys out because they're making tackles. So You got to go you got to go with that, you know, you got to let those guys play and and and they're good so You can't get too far away from the scheme of having those defensive tackles make place because they're doing it and it works Over to the left Tony Gerberman Buckeye Huddle Jim Ryan talked about the quarterback run being more of a Thing with the offense here during the season. How much of when you're facing a team like that? How much does that impact your day-to-day throughout the week preparing for that? Yeah, it's a ton, you know, it

I think it changes everything you do on defense You see it everywhere from the NFL on down if you have a quarterback who can make plays with his feet Your scheme better be designed that you know to to take that away into account for it So it changes the way you look at everything when you're game planning Thank you, Donovan over here to the right Tim May to the Tim May podcast When I asked Ryan about just for example Calvin Simpson Hunt, but the Corner singing to be playing almost with the chip owner shoulder to a certain extent I mean Davis and Nick Benoson took the day personally it looked like You know to make is some of the hype going into the game, but what do you see from that group in particular that? Who is you going into this offseason? Yeah, when you can when you have corners that you can count on Again, it's just like having defensive tackles In the run game when you have corners you can count on that are going to compete all the time no matter what the situation is

And we've developed that again, it changes the way you call the entire game I mean you you're able to leave those guys on an island You're able to switch out converges And they know what they're doing and they take great pride in it. So Having those guys out there in the development. It's a big deal. It really is Yeah, I mean he's He did come in late and you know um He's one of those guys that just competes every day doesn't say much You know, he's trying to live up to the standard of the other guys And you you see him coming along, you know, you see him step by step coming along and and you know put him in a You know competitive atmosphere same step up. That's a great sign and final question for coach Knowles Dan Hope 11 warriors You mentioned CJ Hicks a few minutes ago Have you seen him take the strides you need to see the spring to trust him as a guy who could be a potential starter on his defense?

Yes, I mean I think CJ has shown that He has talent and I think it's my job to put him in the best situations for him because he can be a force You know he's much better when he's blood-sing or he's directed because he's able to use his athletic ability But he has certainly shown that he's going to be able to help this defense coach. Thank you very much for your time All right, and we will bring offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach chip Kelly to the podium now We'll open up the questions over to the left bill Rebinovitz Columbus dispatch at chip What are your just general impressions of the offense coming out of spring especially a quarterback You know We'll look at all 15 so I think you know This day is is a big part of it, you know because it was the first time they were at the play some of those guys that were at the play in from the crowd And that was an amazing crowd nearly 80,000 for spring game

Now you could see some of the young guys kind of looking around like wow. This is different in the indoor um, but that's what they have to get ready to play it so um We got better from practice one practice 15, you know, it's still in evaluation through the whole process, but It's not something and in the players bill to the will we're not making a decision walking off the field today Saying hey, this is the direction that we're going in will We'll be very authentic and and look through everything and make sure that we get a really good feel for what it all looks like And then who will best move this offense? That's that's what our decisions will do. So I do I think we got a lot of guys there That parts tough. I think because you got you there's guys that deserve reps You know, and they're all competing for it So you know, sometimes you'd like to be sometimes when you had a guy who was an initial starter Well, he's gonna get the bulk of the reps to get him better, but um They capitalize on and we really rolled them, you know, if you were at some of our screen practices You're watching all those guys rotate in rotate out Um, and as we talk about all the time, you know, the old adges is don't count your reps make your reps count You know, and we'll put it all together and really come up with you know

Which guy do we really feel is gonna make gonna help us move this offensively Over to the far right bill landis the podcast kings of the north Hey chip you some of me first talked to you that the the basis of a lot of your success running the football Just kind of figuring out what your guys do best and then leading into that over 15 practices now How good of a field do you think you have for that and then what are the next few months look like as you try to piece that all together? Really good question um It's It's interesting because the one thing that I think Sometimes makes tough and an evaluation is what a good front we want to get Um, you know, so for 15 practices Those guys on the other side of the ball were pain, you know Jack and JT and tylie can those guys, but I know come fall There's not gonna be anybody more happy that we have those guys in the defense side of all because of what they can do so Um, I still think we'll have to really evaluate that what we're good at what we're not what we got to get better on what we got to work on But I think the work we got against such a quality defense was uh was really key for us

Over to the far left Nathan baird cleveland.com So you were go at this time um came out of the spring with still a lot of question marks about the offensive line And even I guess that last season came out with question marks What have you seen that progress in the time that you've been here and what's your confidence level that that offensive line is gonna allow this offense to do Everything it wants to do this fall. Yeah, I mean, I've been here Short amount of time so I didn't know I really don't have anything to compare to so I kind of Tabula rassa come in with a blank slate and just observed it. I think we're really athletic Um, I think dottie and and and Seth and those guys inside are really smart and really intelligent They allow you to to be able to make adjustments in game Just tucking football with some of those guys. It's like well These guys are wired the right way and a lot of those guys have played a lot of football So um, they can bank on their experience there You know, I think we we've got about four guys that have played significant amount of snaps And we got to make sure we can find out who the fifth guy is Um, but that's similar to where the quarterback spot is I think and I also think of the offensive line You're not gonna play a 16-17 game season and just playing the five guys, you know, you really have to develop your depth there

Um, there's gonna be a number two center that's gonna play a lot of football It's gonna be a number two guard whether it's on either side of the ball There's gonna be a third tackle. I think you you're gonna get tested Especially with this new in this new playoff format. You really have to think that way So you know, you're not looking for five starters. You're really looking for 10 starters because you're gonna have to You're gonna have to probably play 10 guys to get when you get through a 16-17 game season Over to the right Austin Ward the podcast chip. I think it was the first play of the game the T formation And then the reverse center spin move with Will Howard Understand what's the inspiration for that package and that sort of uh rink of what the quarterback mr. Hayes Do you have uh There's a looming figure around this whole program. You know, we get to go to work every day and the Woody Hay's athletic center So um, it was good enough for Woody. We're gonna stay with we we're gonna do it We ran some last year. I think we took 21 snaps at UCLA and T In a short yardage formation for us and we've done some different things with it, but um I also, I think our players had a lot of fun You know practicing that and doing some different things so um

It's a small part of our offense, you know, we will not be in the T 21 times in one game, but you know, we may get it in some short yardage situations And I think it's come back. There's a lot of schools right now that um are starting to do that You know, it's really just you're trying to you know, you got a half a yard to get you know, you're trying to get your big guys in the game And I think we use three tight ends and two running backs in our formation today with Packard being the the full back in that situation. So um, there's a lot of different things you can do in short yardage, but um A little bit of a tribute to coach coach Hayes and and then and what he means to this program Joey Kaufman Columbus dispatch over to the left chip. Did you look back now? You've been here two months 15 spring practices Something you feel best about what you've been able to accomplish with this offense Well, I haven't accomplished anything because I didn't take a snap, but um I think the most impressive thing since I've been here is how close close this football team is You know some programs talk about a brother there. This is really a brotherhood Our practices as we talked about how good our defense is it's they're highly competitive, but they're not combative and and those guys

Really work very very well together both the old line in the D line the secondary and the receivers Um, the competition is the but it's gotta be the best there is in the country You know and that makes you better, but I think sometimes competition You know guys can lash out and it gets really combative and then all of a sudden the fight breaks out and the fight breaks out And we're trying to accomplish and get footballed them But I think the way these guys cooperating work together as a group As a special bond, and I think you're you're gonna need the the closest team and the most connected teams on the ones that win Over to the right here Andy Baxter and Letterman role chip obviously there's been a lot of talk about Jeremiah But a mecca is the big return in this group. He kind of reminded everyone what he can do today What's it been like working with him and what kind of weapon can he be for you guys? Good point and a mecca has reminded me and the other 14 practice sessions of what he can do Special player, you know and and J. J. is a really talented player also But you know, I think I think all of the the whole group on Cornell tape did some really good things Watching him this spring and for all of them, you know, I mentioned it with the offensive line I came in with a blank slate, you know, I had no opinions formed

Not that really just wide-eyed and just observe them, but you know that I think that wide-receiver Is really special and I think there's a bunch of guys in there and again When you have to play multiple multiple games after the regular season is over You're gonna make sure you're gonna need depth like that and in the fact that it's you feel a little bit Comfortable right now that we got some guys there that can make some plays in the perimeter And that really dictates how people are gonna defend you know, so You got a couple really good running back, you know, so are they gonna load the box? Are you really gonna load the box and leave those guys in one on one coverage? Well then it's the quarterbacks responsibility to decipher that and get the ball of those guys So or do they at least a double covers a list of double coverage and now it's a little bit lighter box and you can run the ball so Having too many weapons is a good problem to have second roll left pat Murphy 24-7 sports chip we've talked a lot about kind of the quarterbacks maybe vying for the starting spot But some of the younger guys what have you seen from them? We got an opportunity to see more of them today And we probably have what's your assessment of them as they kind of get in this I

always and so impressed with Young guys that enroll early in watching how they get acclimated and what they do, you know when you look at julie and in air and In JJ, you know, they should be in the hot lunch line of their high school and they're out here playing in front of 80,000 people and They've really progressed when you watch them in meetings and listen to them and they interpret, you know, so Basically the whole concept here is we throw them in the deep end and see if they can swim, you know This we didn't baby anything. We don't put the install in with hey you guys are in stock. We're an install this with the older players And then you guys you know go set at the kitty table and we're just gonna do the really simple things with you You know, they get it all and the more they can digest the more when you're in a room when you're checking for understanding and asking questions And they can spit back to you the more confidence you have when they get in there with the plays that you can call for them. So Those guys have been impressive. They're still learning, you know, they were the The guys today that we're kind of looking around and saying, while there's like 80,000 people here

Along with the offensive coordinator in the quarterback coach because I was kind of looking around because I'd actually never been in the stadium until yesterday when we had Um our 14th practice in there. So I played Ohio State once when I was at Oregon, but that was in the Rose Bulls I'd never been actually in the stadium until yesterday. So I caught myself when I went into the stadium today looking around saying 80,000 for spring game. That's impressive Got time for just a few more folks over here to the right Dylan Davis Delaware. Is that given what you just said about throwing them into the deep in what stood out the most you about Julian's progression through 15 practices and where he is that you guys head out of spring um Julian is a very fast processor You know, he he really thinks very very quickly on his feet like he He makes really quick decisions. He doesn't stick on And read he can progress and any ceasing is really well for for a young player, you know And not having been exposed to a lot of college defenses and especially what Jim does, you know, Jim can make Jim can make a young freshman quarterback

Cry With some of the stuff he does, but you know, I never saw that with jules and I That's been impressive his his ability to retain and You know him and JJ the compliment. I would say them is if you got here and you didn't know what class They were and you wouldn't say that those guys are freshmen in terms of how they've picked things up and and you know Sometimes freshmen act like freshmen But the guys who are special they don't act like freshmen, you know They act like their football players and those are two guys that are are examples of that Far left camera and T. Gromitzon the athletic chip you On the topic of freshmen James people's exam got around the second half You talk about how deep you need to be in this era of college football, but As you search for our B3 what did you see from them today and what is what is their growth been like in this spring? Yeah, James really flashed early for for me not knowing again kind of it's just a Don't worry about what the background is where they're from who they are The this guy of this stars. That's kind of that stars. It's they're all buccas and this is how they do and I think James is

Really good field and vision He can hit things. I thought sand is some really good things today T. C is another guy who really came along during the spring and in work constantly talking in Our staff meetings about depth we're very cognizant of the fact that the playoff situation has changed So you have to develop that depth, you know Used to be maybe have a parent of spare Was what everybody says, but I think you may have to have more than that you know you're talking about 16-17 games You're you're really gonna be tested that way so I was really happy with with how those young guys have come along You're in the 15 training sessions that we've had over here to the right Tim made the Tim may podcast Thank you, Jerry. You have your own podcast. Yeah, yeah, like these guys all had like a name next to their Okay, let's be cool He must have some juice if you got you got your name in your podcast definitely It's not just the lunch last hot lunch last one. It's a hot lunch line Just too quick. He's number one. Do you feel compelled to let these quarterbacks know where they stand here?

It's coming up Tuesday, you know to me there. Yeah, you know Where does that go? I mean in your mind. Yeah, we're all sit down as a staff and visit meet on it and then nine Maybe he does an unbelievable job of I think all our players understand where they fit and what what the picture is and we'll give them our assessment This isn't you know, we're not gonna come back and but we do it after every day They know where they stood after practice one after two after three after four We grade everything they're getting constant feedback in terms of where we are and then after 15 which we had today But but we can't do it unless you watch the film and can can really look at the The things because you may see something but you're on the sideline You know, why did he make that decision? Well, I couldn't really see the field safety from where he was Okay, now I understand why you made that decision. So um, you know But they'll we'll have meetings with all our peers and that's that's always been the method. So this week during um, you know between Monday through Friday we're all scheduled no one's going on the road to recruiting until after that But we're all a player meeting said every position You know offensive line defensive line linebacker safety is everybody's gonna sit down with their position coaches and

Know where they fit and we see them But do you feel a pressure with with the transfer portal looming? I mean you've been a head coach for a long time I mean is that on your mind at TSD? Yeah, I think it's all aware of it I'm 100% and I don't think it's pressure But I think you just open lines of communication and everybody knows You know which What your evaluation was through the the training sessions that we have guys we got to have we got real quick Last two questions Dan Hope and then Rob all are Feel like you need to have a starting quarterback named by and whatever the biggest things you're gonna be looking for between now and then and determining who that guy's gonna be Well between now and and whatever then is we're not allowed as coaches to go back out And practice with him, you know and in college football you get 15 training sessions in the uh In the offseason and then they'll go back to working with Mick in the in the weight room and getting bigger getting faster getting stronger They'll have organized activities themselves And they they do a really good job of that But once there's a football out like we're not allowed to be there to evaluate and even assess

So they're really from a football standpoint on their own until August so You always want to do it earlier But I also believe every time I've I've been involved in this is that it kind of happens organically and authentically You know because the players know If you say we decided we're gonna be with Joe and they all think it's Tim You know they know they're in the locker room with him every day players Players understand, you know who they'd feel is the guy and and most of the time it it The decision is very obvious, you know, when you just say hey, this is where we are with it, you know But There's that timetable thing. I don't I can't give you an exact timetable in that so Rob Chip um you talk about Julian, but typically in your experience you've done again like Tim said a long time How long does it take for the game to slow down for for a young QB? I think it depends on the individual, you know, I've had some kids Um We're early, you know, you're like wow

Marcus Murray, Oda was like that Remember vividly second practice and he got to the fifth reading the progression and threw it out here in this big game And I asked him why I do it all I like asked why cuz I just want to understand it And I said why did you do that? And he goes I don't know what we call that defense, but there was like a lot of guys over there And they didn't seem like there was anybody over there But for him to process at that thought and he was right And he came back the other day whether that was cover 60 other day coach like I learned what you guys call the coverage is But um it all happens differently. I've got guys that for two years seem like They're just you know They're really struggling and then the light bulb goes off and you know, whoa like they got it so Everybody has different learning styles You know our job and the evaluation process is to identify those learning styles So you know they cognitive learn they an auditory learner, you know, do they do they learn by field is it is it more? You know a Field guy, you know a more film guy, you know, it's all different And I think we have to keep poking and prodding in in in in for us as coaches. That's the challenge too is what is their best learning style and how can we convey it because education basically is just a transportation knowledge

But it really doesn't matter what I know or what Ryan knows it matters what they know so That's that's always kind of what we're working on and studying and thinking about and kind of where we are and How much can they handle and then how much is too much you know Because this may be a great play. I agree 100 percent But if he don't feel it's a good play Then then why is it in you know, I mean and that's that's this whole feeling up process that we're all they're learning awesome. We're learning them This is have identities sort of coaches really Running quarterbacks. That's something you've always sort of lean toward or is it year by year case by case What advantages do you like about because all your guys can run a little bit? Yeah I think a running quarterback causes problems for defense So when when plays break down the unscheduled plays you know if you just go back to the recent Super Bowl On that last drive the two big plays were my home's run The petrol my home is not a runner And he's not calling design quarterback runs for Pat

But when the defense matches up and plays two men and turns their back to the quarterback Well, maybe the best decision is to take off you know the second one he took out Like he may score you know a lot of guys go and they want a hook side You know and and there's times where you have to understand if you do have a running quarterback If we talk about the best of the best ability is availability You know you're not lowering your shoulder and taking people on but we are always looking for quarterbacks that have the ability to run We're not looking for running backs that can throw you know, so you're not gonna see us 20 times a game will run in the quarterback There are people that run offensive styles and are really successful with it But with this group we have right now that's not now they can hurt you with the feet We'll did it when he was at case date you know obviously Devon took off a couple times today air took off a couple times today Lincoln's a really really good athlete Julian can run but you know we're not calling design quarterback runs you know you're not gonna see You know I tremendous respect for coach Hayes and the legacy that he left here This straight T is about as far as we go we are not going single wing

So we are not gonna snap and run quarterback ISO and quarterback power so But it is a it's another weapon You know and if it also keeps defenses honest, you know if your defense event is gonna continue to bend From the quarterback pulls it he's on the edge and he's gaining first downs Within the defensive and has to stay outside and contain the quarterback Well then we can run the ball up and hand the ball off sometimes in our running game our quarterback really is a blocker He's responsible for a defender if the defender is cheating and fitting it on the run Then his responsibility is to make make the defense be honest and and that's really air did that a couple times today And we had a block the safety was sticking his face in there So we took off around the edge what happens in next play the defense is wider Then what do we have to do? We got a chance to handle ball off to the running game Great coach. Thank you so much for your time and thank you for being a buck. I uh thanks It was definitely addressed here You know this pretty easy. I think Austin Sarradol stepped up in a big way, you know with the Donnie being out Um and and then you know, you know, Carson can can play both guard and center, which is good Um, and you know, we've actually you know

Sennis done a nice job as well Um, but it was good to see Austin, you know He moved from guard to tackle a couple times and even with the ones he was in their battle in his tail off. So Um, I think we have built some depth there, but again, you know, we got to go play some games and see what that You know again, whether it's whatever happened last year's last year, but I know that the message to our To our offensive line is we want to play one of the hardest playing offense line in the country Now we got to play with technique But at the end of the play like knock the line of scrimmage back and play with your hair on fire as hard as you possibly can There's a lot that goes with the playing in the offensive lines all the communication is a lot of things that have to get into place I think Seth has done a nice job of communicating understands the offense better now and takes control up front and brings everybody together Which is great, but but to me like that's it now we could list a bunch of other things But to me we've got to move the line of scrimmage We've got to be just playing with our hair on fire and knocking people back and playing physical Um, and that's the start to game. That's the end of the game

No, no, I don't see it that way at all. I think um You know, we'll see what we got this year, but I feel like you know, we've got some really good young players in the system I think that um, you know, we should have the best offensive line in the country. That's that's the standard here Has been for a long time and um, you know, and so you know, we'll keep pushing towards that this year and You know, I think you know, everybody in that room will play the same thing um, uh, Tony Gerbin So uh, uh, sunny has really stepped up and played well. He's made this transition from safety to linebacker Very well I think he did a nice job in the spring, but you could definitely see as he went into the the summer It's just you know bigger stronger Um, being more comfortable closer to line of scrimmage When you're closer to line of scrimmage Uh, it's doing a better job getting his you know hands on on You know on offense alignment and getting off of blocks And using a better job doing a better job with his hands

I think he understands the communication The linebackers always have to be involved with the front They can be involved and fitted to the back end. He's doing that Um, you know, I think he's he's you know looking forward to play On a plan in the game and you know, get an idea of what it all looks like But I can tell you in practice. He's playing fast. He's playing violent and I think he's you know He does a nice job of taking the meeting to the field Being very intentional about his work, but playing really hard Yeah, I haven't talked to Jim because you know, we'll make that final decision here over the weekend He's certainly leader in the club bus Can you tell Ryan? I mean Seth McLaughlin can tell he's been there done that is he As he projected that To the offensive line you're still and I'm safe from a leadership stand going up a grown man Yes, how does it just come up? How does it show up? Uh, a bunch of ways it just poise it's Not getting rattled when you know coach parks at you. It's you know, okay. I got this let me get it on the control

It's Seem something in practice and being able to adjust on the move. It's Being prepared when you walk on the field It's Recognizing how hard you have to play at the position. It's You know kind of all of those things in the one but He's got great communication up front he talks to the guys He's moving quickly in there and when you have experience like he has, you know, the game seems to slow down at times yet You know, he seems to be playing it. I've had a fast lover I think so over Hey, those are point where you got a black stripe off and I feel like you took a step in the right direction When you come in in the summer it is very difficult to get on the field especially early in the season Whether he does or not. I will see But if he continues to practice for it, he's been practicing

Then he'll give himself a chance to be in the rotation midway through the season Or later in the season which is similar to some of the water series in fact before you know, you've seen Some of those guys get some reps early in the season that then make an impact later in the season I think that's probably more His path right now It shows up and starts doing great and you know, well You know, we'll give him the reps he deserves Or like Jeremiah is in a different situation because he came in here during the war and he was a little bit ahead Anybody who comes in and January to me. I don't look at them as a freshman anymore They've been here during the program and we expect them to contribute You're still in there right there

I'm talking and communicating but In the stream as we've had it's you know, it's been offense very defense So I've mostly been on the offensive side still kind of going through all those types of things And there's a lot to work through this year just with you know the playtop and then To want to mean that is you know the close to my communication inside of 15 goes off There's a lot of things that go on there. We don't really get notification on that So I'm trying to you know just help chip with that and some communication that or a person out But I'm going to very much involved with special teams. I think with a two-minute warning There's some strategic things that are going to go on in the half end of game that you know, you're ever really being involved with But to your point just overall just looking guys in the eye and making sure that you know They have to write looking their eye that you know that you know they they understand Um, you know with the situation what's going on in the game, you know I think that happens sometimes the young players, you know, they're just like playing the next play You know, and that's not just how that's not how it works We've got to win the situations and so all those things will come into play and making in game adjustments

You know be involved with on all three phases, you know watching you know the game and a tab with the try to identify what happened The last series I think all those things will be happening Right now Nick is going to be the starter and you know that that competition will go into next week, but Right now as we head into the weekend he is the starter And the plan is ready to go It's as hard to go up and go on Saturday against Acre He's got a strong leg. He's made it a good transition into You know the country, but also just playing you know football Um and not Australian little ball, which is very very different um The um you know snap to kick is really improved, you know, that was one thing as he's a taller guy So the ball has to get out of this you know get off his foot faster. I think he's done that His time time has been good And he's been more consistent

You'll see you know he'll kick a few I'm just going right out of the stadium and you just got a strong strong leg So we're looking for that consistency. He's he's showing that here most recently So he's got the upper hand right now I don't know if it's because Will maybe took a little bit longer to make a decision in December Then some of the other top of the line quarterback to us was dead or because maybe there was a thought he wasn't going to be the starter It can't stay too short But it seems like people have been kind of as a game manager type of quarterback After eight months with them Do you see his ceiling of what what is Will's special plate to you and where do you see him taking stuff? I see You know a bunch of trades there. I think the first trade a size It's big you can stand in the pocket and see he's strong You know, so I mean that's the first thing to notice about him I mean whether it's standing in the pocket with poise. I think that's another trade that he has that's excellent He he feels a rush Um, but he stands right in there I think the next trade is just you know, he's just top-end Steve and he can run 22 miles an hour at that size which

Uh, there's not a lot of guys who do that. So I think that's the extraordinary trade and I would I would say his overall leadership Command and the huddle is is another You know something that he's he's really you know grown into in the last few months and he's been here Uh, and then his accuracy. He's been very accurate since he's been here Um, and when he knows what's going on and he can explain what's happening I mean, it looks right just feel and and he can hurt you, you know a bunch of different ways so His ceiling that that's that's going to be kind of you know up to how he plays his season but You know, I see a player who has a lot of great Skills that you know translates well to the next level. So we'll see but I know his first focus is on winning games around here Oh Please mean you have nerves naturally. So that's first complaint. I was good. I was rolling

Yeah, um You Yeah, it's like I prepared well And camp and practice all week and I was I was ready um, yeah, I have two multi-year starters It did a lot. I mean, I couldn't ask them. Hey, what we got here, but I was prepared well. I mean I was telling Jimmy and says like Why are Um, it was always my dream to come here and play and start and Having that like me as you're like keep going keep building those days and go games and keep building What a much younger Austin No, not I don't think Even I told like me I Yeah younger self Even committing I wouldn't believe that now having a couple of starts

Awesome has this happened No, I knew that year two. I was gonna see you some playing time Now starting week one year two. I didn't see that but like I was ready In spring ball like a new I was one I was gonna play some stuff But so what does it mean to you to it's not only get the opportunities to play but Like you play well enough now I guess it shows like my preparation my hard work and just everything I put into this and I just finally showing up on field There are moments Yeah, uh, the definitely was in training camp I mean blocking highly can tie every day

So like he feels he feels a lot of confidence and doing it well and not like getting Ball or anything so Was he Hero in a Jason Moore in Taiwan all those guys me pretty much anyone on the deep and mind you And came back as well, so yeah He helped me a quite a lot and I'm proud that he's our starting center not someone else's but um I mean, he's like the captain of the line. He's another voice on the line With guys like Josh Fryer and Josh Sim and Donnie and Tiger that means another voice and another captain Yeah, like he can tell you like before to play what's going on and like how to block someone like we need to do and

Like that's a lot It makes us more calm like especially me and Tae does our first start so like we were up here What what said like he brought us down mean we were like fine like our emotions weren't high we were so in Is that like something he tells you? Is that something you pick up on by how he's acting? How do you kind of sense what he's trying to say about how he's acting and what Mean him when we're on the side of him both Josh Donnie like he was telling us like a cool like we got it It's pretty much like oh everyone old cool group As a first time starter how much of the ad that mean a lot That was my first time ever using high pets. We didn't use the iPads in high school, but I mean you can say like try to remember the defense You just come on a silent bring up look like the help

Probably the first or second after the I thought we say oh I want to say Maybe I don't know, but I mean when I when I first heard you got the job I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo I can run with the tempo you know I mean I'm I've been playing basketball all I can set up football and I feel like Just the fast pace often so we're running really fits the guys we have right now. I'm really excited for that I know you can throw a football 65 guys, but can you kick a football 75 years of wake up? Probably question Lincoln. What was your question? How is your Your room after you He's a blessing man. I can't you playing He's a great guy. What's his name's Lincoln? Teen hoes Oh I think we're both really clean. That's why we kind of picked each other's roomies because we're very clean and

We don't like our words really messy Well it's true though. It's a true. It's a lot pretty clean Are you still a cross-training in Tag Bullsom or if you just been off guard this way? Oh so far I've been all garden. I really don't know like I said I'm taking it practice I practice I can't end up being back attack like that and on but You know, I'm just really focused in on this past practice is the next thing Yeah, oh that mean a lot You know you put a lot of work in to play here And spend a dream just from being in Ohio kid is from a high-oh kid's perspective It's I mean that's the biggest wish possible out as I would say that's it'll be pretty cool What was it like this last year? It didn't like this can be a weird answer, but it feel like I was playing a game you know that that makes sense I was pretty locked in I felt like just no anxiousness no stress no nothing really I just went in that first game was like Shoot I'm here now it's time to roll. No, they didn't really hit me I was like it didn't even hit me after but I want to like what you feel there and if like getting out there at the end

I just like honestly I don't know I felt less than there's that in high school and that makes no sense You feel it's the value Um a lot I mean I'm learning from Josh Ann Austin I think fire is one of my biggest role models here is my bigger big brother when I first came up Come up with me? No, I don't think so You do okay? Yeah, no Yeah, yeah, so yeah for being awesome those are my guys man I mean even miles to I mean all three of them that's those are my roommates and they're progressing every day as well And I'm excited to see where they where they can get to on the side of the planet field Oh, yeah, you know, it's been really helpful. You know, just keeping my mind just settled and straightforward on the next play It's a great question. Um like I said, I mean I just need to take insistent in my work. I think that's the biggest thing for me is just

Yeah Absolutely, I mean when you see defensive And you see defenses start arguing with each other and things like that. I mean Makes it a lot easier You know Tech reserve since that You know, it's not Pretty can Austin. It's just more of down jacks of great season all-american I'm enjoying the work, you know, done of the jacks is a very good football player When he's on the field he mentioned present stuff I mean we love it training

We know Yeah, I mean we put in a work during practice we practice really hard coach day really challenges us at that this hard Positions coaches really It's When you work hard for something and you're able to see like What comes out of it like that's there's no better feeling No, I mean I was really funny to see You Take a what is step-by-dwell from you guys for the first two games? What's it been like playing x-an for the last two?

You know he's really Calm and storm what you never see real panic and having a guy like that next to you and you know You're having really played as many meaning for snaps You know There's no one outside rather absent my lift and some right, you know for our hands set Those guys they do so much The people talk about his intelligence really kind of showing up in the film room and on the field Where have you noticed that intelligence and how is that helped you? Yeah, like I said and crunch time, you know when When things aren't exactly looking like how we practice it, you know Having a guy like that

What's my favorite cake Well They've got that has good 10 bodies. Absolutely. What do you see when you look at their tape and see 13, 7 and a couple of those guys are pretty big. This is a side story. Yeah, those guys there, they're real players. They're real players. You can sell their coach well. You can sell them. They go hard. You know, they're real players over there. We've been practicing since the best of our abilities. You know, and expect that. And I'm prepared for that. You see, they've been Virginia Tech in the last year. They're doing wonderful. They take the ropes. Yeah, they play a good ball over there. And you know, their defense plays hard. They challenge teams, you know, sometimes they

might be overlooked. And they still challenge teams. And so they come out there with the mentality like, no matter who's in front of the silver medal. And the women have to do this. OK. Let me ask you. What has been the biggest challenge? I mean, the adjuncts right there right in front of you right now, which is kind of a good thing and kind of a bet. And we should shift off the rest, you know, hidden back in it inside. Can you talk to your coach? Yeah, I mean, I hear from Chris and everyone so I try to not sit by there. I'm too much about it. It's always good to hear from guy like that, guys like DeWon, even Matt Jones, returning back. OK. All right, Tyler, thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you very much. This is really awesome. Really special. Thank you. And for this year, just be able to contend that job. No skill, still. We have a lot of things to do.

I think there's a lot of things I've made. My weight, my height, this, more regard height. When I'm fast on my feet, and I'm just thinking that you can sometimes like basketball, or want to be on that just like defend, but you don't have to stay. You stay square or something. Exactly. Yeah, that's a great question. I mean, I feel like these two can answer that for the beer right now. I think KK here, I'll get answered that. I don't know what to say about that. What do you guys think? I think it's like a day. This man is strong. Well, I'm talking about like, you have to backspot here. You sound like you can just do a thing. I think that's what I was really surprised about. Just the whole way I'm sure it fits your hand. And he got the grip right in the back. He doesn't keep up on the play. Like you said, he's going to go in and watch the film. He's going to hit the beer and go in and play. He's going to hit the beer and then he's going to hit the beer.

From the point this one, you're not going to have to say you can sit and prove that you're going to get it. Here, can you just follow us around, Rob? Is that like a coach? Chip Kelly's influence changed your mind about maybe like the idea of tackle versus dark. Because obviously his offensive predilection is for like, offensive blind play, and one game. Has he been a part of me settling into that? That's um, I want to say maybe I don't know, but I mean, when I first heard he got the job, I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo. I can run with the tempo, you know what I mean? I'm playing basketball all life in 7 football and I feel like just the fast-paced offense that we're running really fits the guys we have right now, I'm really excited for that. I know you can throw football in 65 guys, but can you kick a football 75 yards and think of it? I have to tell the question. Lincoln, what's your question? I was your, um, your roommate at the beginning. He's a blessing man, I can't complain. He's a great guy. What's his name?

His name's Lincoln. Keen Holtz. Ooh, he's a cleaner. I think we're both really clean. That's why we kind of pick each other's roommates because we're very clean and we don't like our rooms really messy. Oh, it's true though. It's true, the broke pretty clean stuff. Luke, are you still a cross-training attack, go some, or if you just been all guard this way? Ah, so far I've been all guard. Um, I really don't know. Like I said, I'm taking the practice back practice. I could end up being back attack, but I could not, but you know, I'm just really focused in on this past practice as an excellent friend. What do you think? You know, I don't know. Oh, that mean a lot. You know, you put a lot of work in to play here. I just spent a dream just from being an Ohio kid. I'm from a Ohio kid's perspective. I mean, that's the biggest switch possible, I would have thought, I would say, that's going to be pretty cool. What was it like last year at first game getting on the field for the first time? It didn't fly. Like, this is going to be a weird answer, but it feels like I was planning to game you. If that makes sense.

I was pretty locked in. I felt like just no anxiousness, no stress, no nothing really. I just went in that first game. I was like, you're not here now. It's time to roll, you know. It didn't really hit me. I was like, it didn't even hit me after. But no, I'm like, what'd you feel there? And it's like, getting out there at the end of it. I just like, honestly, I don't know. I felt less nervous than I did in high school, and it makes no sense. What is it? What is it? What is it? What is it? I'm learning from Josh N. Austin. I think Friars is one of my biggest role models here. He's my bigger brother in my first game. It's all about Pidea. No, it's not. Yeah, Pidea and Austin, those are my guys. I mean, even Miles too. All three of them. Those are my roommates. They're progressing every day as well. I'm excited to see where they can get to. I'm excited to play on the field with them. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. You know, it's been really helpful. You know, just keeping my mind just settled and straightforward on the next play.

That's a great question. Like I said, I mean, I just need to take consistent in my work. I think that's the biggest thing for me is just taking consistent and worrying about the next play. It's my game. And I was like, whoa, I never had that happen. No other school, like just Ohio State field can't make it. And I was like, what? I was crazy. Do you like, I mean, I'd be quiet, but also do you like that? Do you want everything that comes to mind? Do you want anything we want? I do, but at the same time, I just like to be a normal person. I don't really like that. So what do you feel? Are you a showman? I mean, I always get described. It's kind of like your art form. Yeah, I mean, yeah. I want to feel, I'm a little bit more chipier a little bit, but sometimes I still require them. What's the competitive part of you? When did you know to set up by yourself? I've been having that. I was like eight, nine years old. I mean, I mean, just high-end house rate, just to be competitive. That's the reason why chose to come to Ohio State. Just to compete each and every day. I guess the best DB group in the country.

I was going to say you've been in hands for the last several months. I mean, you want to just, it's been nice and then, then you'll burn it, etc. Oh, yeah. I want to get them to God the best two DBs in the country. I mean, that's the reason I can't hear. This is going to just God just go make me better each and every day. Yesterday, I went out for the right job. Yeah. Yeah. You just have work.
