It's March 26th. Welcome in. This is Hartford News Today, where local news meets AI. I'm Cory with the story. Two letter carriers from the Glastonbury Post Office in Connecticut are set to receive the National Safety Council's Million Mile Award this week. Daniel Diaz and Richard McDonald will be honored on March 26th for driving 1 million miles or about 30 years without a preventable accident. Postmaster Thomas Sangerides will present the award during a special ceremony. Each carrier gets a plaque with the Million Mile Club emblem, the council's logo, and their personalized nameplate. The United States Postal Service runs one of the largest civilian vehicle fleets in the world, with 246,503 vehicles. That 1 million miles equals driving from the moon to earth more than four times. Every year, postal workers log over 1.2 billion miles, delivering to 148.6 million homes and 12.8 million businesses six days a week.

More than 30,000 employees have hit this safety milestone. Leaders stress that safe driving takes real skill and top training, making employee safety their number one goal as they keep mail moving safely.
