On March 6, a 25-year-old Portuguese national has been arrested in Lisbon over a gang-related murder in Manchester from November 20, 20. 16-year-old Alexander John Soyoya was chased and hacked to death with machetes in the most in area during a clash between rival street groups. Earlier this week, Portuguese judicial police tracked down the suspect who had fled back home after the killing and worked in construction using A. He's now facing a court hearing to decide on his detention ahead of possible extradition to the UK. The violence grew out of a bitter feud between a Boston gang called M40 and a rival outfit from Rochdale and Oldham known as representing the danger. Social media posts and drill rap tracks ramped up the threats, turning minor run-ins into deadly attacks. In 2021, seven others were convicted in connection with Soyoya's death, six men and a teenage boy for murder, plus one more for, manslaughter.
They received life sentences with minimum terms ranging from 16 to 24 years. Greater Manchester police confirmed they're following the Portuguese arrest closely. With extradition proceedings underway, this case shows how international cooperation keeps closing in on those involved in these street conflicts.
