Menjivar came to the U.S. from El Salvador as an undocumented immigrant back in 1990. He's the first Salvadoran bishop in the country and one of the first from Central America. Menjivar has been straight up vocal against former President Trump's immigration policies. And in editorial last year, he called out Catholics for staying silent on the harsh treatment of migrants urging folks to check their conscience. He started with odd jobs after arriving, then settled in Maryland, and became a priest. His story highlights how far he's come, while pushing the church to stand up for the vulnerable. Meanwhile, the Pope also tapped Reverend Robert Boxy III as an auxiliary bishop.
