On this March 10th, here's what's shaping the world. Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop Emanuel Chaleta, the Caudin Catholic Bishop of San Diego, California. The Vatican announced the move on Tuesday, right after the bishop's arrest on embezzlement charges. Last week, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office arrested the 69-year-old Bishop on March 5th at the International Airport. He was trying to leave the country when authority stopped him, based on a statement and documents from someone at his church, pointing to possible. Embezzlement. Sheriff's officials booked him on eight counts, including embezzlement, money laundering, and aggravated white collar crime. He's being held on $125,000 bail. The Vatican time the public announcement carefully. The bishop offered his resignation back in February, and the Pope accepted it then, but they held off revealing it to avoid messing with the ongoing. Police probe. Now, Bishop Saad Hanna-Sarap is stepping in as temporary administrator for the diocese.
No word yet from the Bishop's parish at St. Peter Chaldean Church or his legal team. Chaleta had served his bishop there since 2017, after being ordained a priest in Detroit back in 1984.
