Plymouth Bomb Scare: 1200 Evacuated, Controlled Explosion Set

0:00On April 30th, a 250-kilogram World War II bomb turned up at a building site in Plymouth, Southway neighborhood, forcing the evacuation of over 1,200 homes in a 400-meter exclusion zone. Officials decided to blow it up right there in a controlled explosion set for Friday, since moving it just wasn't safe. The issue comes down to the fuses. They couldn't get a clear x-ray on one, so the senior explosives officer, Colonel Nick Handy, called it too risky to, transport. Teams are piling up massive amounts of sand around it overnight to contain the blast and shrapnel aiming to burn it in place with minimal fallout. Residents got the word to clear out completely, with no reentry allowed until it's done. The city opened a community center as a respite and lined up hotel rooms for those without other options, while three local schools, Oakwood Primary.
