Forensic experts also spotted severe injuries to her face, likely from punches or rough handling inside a suitcase. Her exact time of death is still a mystery. Prosecutors in Gras say they can't rule out that she was alive when stuffed into the suitcase. She could go either way, she might have been strangled before or survived briefly after. Piper vanished in November 2025 following a holiday party. Neighbors had heard her arguing with her 31-year-old ex-boyfriend right before she disappeared. Meanwhile, police tracked him to Slovenia after his car burst into flames in a casino parking lot near the border. He confessed to the killing and led them to her body, tucked away in a suitcase in a nearby forest. He's now held in pretrial detention in Austria, awaiting trial later this year. If convicted, he faces life behind bars.
