Phil Savage Joins Rams Scouting, Eyes Talent Replacements

This 60-year-old vet with over 30 years in player evaluation will team up tight with assistant general manager John McKay. Rams brass sees him as a key edge for spotting talent, especially after losing Aaron Donald to retirement. Savage kicked off his career with the Cleveland Browns back in 1991 as a defensive coach. Then jumped to scouting two years later under Bill Belichek. He later ran college scouting for the Baltimore Raven starting in 1996, nailing their first two picks as Hall of Famers Jonathan Audden and Ray Lewis, which fueled a Super Bowl win. His stint as Brown's general manager from 2005 didn't pan out so well, but he bounced back directing the senior bowl from 2012 to 2018. That's where he built deep ties with young prospects across the league. Back in 2014, Savage rolled through Rams practice, chatting up then-general manager Les Sneed and hyping up rookies like Aaron Donald on, social media.
