On April 2nd, petrol prices jumped 20 pence per liter in March, the biggest monthly surge

ever, while diesels shot up a whopping 40 pence.

For a typical 55 liter family car tank, that meant 11 pounds more for petrol and 22 pounds

extra for diesel between March 1st and 31st.

All this amid the Iran war kicking off on February 28th.

These spikes beat the early increases from Russia's Ukraine invasion back in 2022, though

overall prices haven't topped those peaks yet.

The real trigger was Iran's blockade of the Shred of Hormuz, choking off oil supplies

to the west and sending costs through the roof right before, Easter road trips.

Drivers sheld out nearly 600 million pounds extra nationwide compared to pre-war levels,

with Chancellor Rachel Reeves pocketing about 1.
