Petro, Trump, and Rodriguez: Border Talks and Invitations

0:00This is Global News Today. Every region, every story, every day. Columbia's President Gustavo Petro had a phone call with the U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday. They talked about the economy along the Columbia Venezuelan border. This comes right before Petro's meeting with Venezuela's acting President Delce Rodriguez on Friday. Trump told Petro has welcomed in the United States anytime. He even apologized for not inviting him to a gathering with other Latin American leaders in Miami last week. Petro invited Trump to visit Cartagena and Trump responded warmly to that. The two leaders have classed before over drug trafficking issues. Trump has pushed for more cooperation from Columbia and made unproven claims about Petro. Still, they had a positive in-person meeting in Washington last month. Rodriguez took over after the United States captured former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro in a January raid. Friday's talks marker first in-person presidential meeting since then.
