On April 8th, a Birmingham pastor named Cheryl Bartley just got hit with a gross negligence manslaughter charge after a man drowned during a baptism, ceremony last year. The victim was 61-year-old Robert Smith from Brixton in South London. It happened on October 8th, 2023, at a spot on Slade Road in Erdington, an officials ruled it a drowning. Now, the Crown Prosecution Service stepped in, saying they've got solid evidence and it's in the public interest to take this to court. They teamed up tight with West Midlands Police on the probe. Bartley, who's 48, heads to Birmingham magistrates court this Thursday, May 14th, for her first appearance on the charge. This case is still rolling, so everyone's got to respect the process and let her get a fair shot in court without any outside noise messing things up.
