Park Road Allotments Secure 24-Year Lease

This ends a long standoff with the Duke of Northumberland's estate, which owns the site as part of their Sion park holdings. The trouble began back in 2015 when the estate ended the original lease to make way for apartment buildings. Campaigners pushed back hard to keep the space for growing food and enjoying nature. Schools rallied with more than 900 objections to the 90-flap proposal. The council turned it down in 2021, citing harm to green space and heritage, and won the estate's appeal in 2023. Now the council takes over management of the three-acre plot, which has served as allotment since 1917. They plan to fix it up and fill the many vacant plots, which are super popular. This agreement brings real peace of mind to gardeners and neighbors, letting everyone keep tending their plots for years to come.
