ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler highlighted Pickett as a name to watch during this free-agency period. Fowler shared this link just before the legal tampering window opened, noting the team's need for a reliable option behind their starter. Back in the 2022 NFL draft, the Panthers passed on the University of Pittsburgh star when shopping for a quarterback. Pickett went 20th overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers instead.
