Packers Trade for Franklin, Boost Linebacker Corps

They are sending defensive tackle Colby Wooden in return, though the deal won't be official until the New League year starts. Franklin steps in as their new starter before Free Agency even kicks off next week. This eight-year veteran was a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and broke out big time in 2024. That year he earned a pro-bowl nod after leading the league with 173 tackles, plus six pass breakups, five forced fumbles, three-and-a-half sacks, and two picks. Last season marked a step back for Franklin, with his stats dropping and his pro football focus defensive grade hitting a career-low 38.4, dead last among qualified linebackers.
