Packers Draft Primer - Davison Igbinosun - CB - Ohio State

What is up Packers fans, welcome back to the Daily Draft brought to you by the Green

I am your host and the publisher of Packer Report, Ross Uglman today, we are breaking

down popular Green Bay Packers pick and fit Ohio State corner back, Davison Igbenison,

who I am going to one hope I didn't just butcher his name, but I'm going to refer to

as DI for the rest of the show because I don't want to butcher his name again, it takes

a long time to say and we're going to break it all down for you here now. He's popular

pick for the Packers, probably because he went to Ohio State, they love that, not maybe

as much as they love Georgia, but they take plenty of guys from the big 10, take plenty

of guys from Ohio State, I think the most prominent one that you'll all remember, of course

is AJ Hock, but can you pick it with Ohio State, there's plenty of book guys in the history

of the Green Bay Packers, any six foot two, and they just signed Benjamin St. Juiced,

they like big tall corners, but he's not thick, and that's something that we're going

to talk about in a little bit. Started his career at Ole Miss, transferred to the buck

eyes, won a national championship after the 2024 season, first team all big 10 in 2025

and then went to the senior bowl, so a good senior year, and I think he would tell you

a good decision ultimately to transfer to Ohio State, played with Caleb Downs and was

in a really, really good secondary with the buck eyes, absolutely no question about that.

On the strengths side, very, excuse me, very experienced football player, we just did

the Cole Payton episode, this would be the exact opposite of Cole Payton, right, Cole

Payton, very few starts at the FCS level, DI, a ton of starts in the SEC and the big 10,

between the big 10 and the SEC, logged more than 2,800 snaps on the defensive side of

the football, you're not going to find 22 year old prospects, right, because COVID stuff

and, you know, red shirts and portal and all this and the incentive to stay in college

and get paid instead of leave for the league as quickly as you can to get paid, you'll

see 24, 25, 26 year old prospects, maybe not 26, but 24, 25 year old prospects, DI is

22 and 2,000, I'm going to say that number again, 2,800 plus snaps on the defensive side

of the football, physical guy, plays press man well, I think it also, he does a good job

in the run, like just physical, physical is the word, he's physical in the run game, physical

in press man, physical in the screen game, physical in the RPO game, does all those things

well, instinctive player, I think he understands route concepts well, sniffs out the RPO game

well, just as, and a lot of this guys comes for playing a ton of ball, this kid has played

a ton, excuse me, a ball and he's shown to be durable, I think that has to be on the

plus side, especially when talking about the Green Bay Packers and in a group that has struggled

to stay healthy, there's no way around it, it's not breaking any news to anybody, they

have struggled to stay healthy, so this kid that's made it through the big 10 and the

SEC playing ball in a high level, I think is impressive for sure, tackles well in the

open field, defense of run, but tackles were receivers well too, you know, you get these

jitterbug wide receivers that love to dance, they'll get them down on the ground, you run

tossed with the running back, they'll get the running back down on the ground, and ultimately

to elude the ease long, and he uses that length well at the catch point, I think he excels

and contested catch situations, I think he's the type of cornerback that you would like

to have in a red zone situation as well.

Okay, weakness is, D.I. has adequate long speed, but I don't think he's a particularly

explosive or twitched up athlete, and ultimately he's then, right, at 189, and the Packer's,

you know, kind of line of demarcation seems to be 190, and you know, he could say, hey,

well coach, I, you know, lost weight for the, for the combine, and I'm really playing

at 195, and I just wanted to run fast, so, you know, through training, I dropped weight

in this, that, and the other, that's fine, if you're 5'11", okay, he's 6'2", so 6'2189

is skinny either way, I don't care if you're playing weight, it's 3'4", 5 pounds higher,

he is thin, he'll be too light for someone, and someone historically he would be too light

for the Packers, and he's like 6'2 in change, he's not 6'1", and 5'8", borderline to the point

where he would be considered an outlier if he does succeed because he is so tall, I'm

not, I'm not convinced, right, but it could happen, you know, I'm not convinced that he's

too tall, I think he's uncomfortable if he's not pressing, and he doesn't always stay

square to the receiver if he's playing off, and in breaking routes, out breaking routes,

any kind of breaking route, I mean, he allows separation, and that, that, that click to close

that stickiness, that change of directions, not always there if he's not playing press,

just four career interceptions, and no fumbles forced, so, four career interceptions might

not sound terrible until you go back to the pros when I said he played 2800 snaps, he

played 2800, you know, opportunities, no, of course he wasn't targeted, that's, that's

an exaggeration, but you played that many snaps at corner, and you're good, you better

run into more than four picks, it's just, just my opinion on the whole deal, the transition

out of the back panel, same thing, we were talking about with off coverage, choppy, and

that physical nature and wanting to play, play press all the time, does, and by the way,

not only that, but allowing separation, it causes him to grab, and in college, Ohio State,

getting a friendly whistle occasionally, I mean, it's a big time program, you know, you're

going to get more calls than you're not, and I'm not a Michigan fan, I don't care, I'm

not an anti-ohio state, I'm just saying, you know, you're the favorite, you're going to,

it's college ball, the rules aren't the same, you're not going to be able to grab in the

pros the way you're able to grab it Ohio State, it just is what it is, and that resulted

in penalties in college, it is damn sure, going to result in penalties at the pro level,

I will say he, he did curb the penalties down in 2025, 22, 23, 24 penalties, 25 kind

of down, but still, I do see a grabby player, and ultimately that's not going to fly, I

don't think, at the pro level, I just don't think he's going to get away with it.

Packers fit, right on the border, comes from Ohio State, big, big 10 program, right,

like they take guys from Michigan, they take guys from Ohio State, they take Jane Reed

from Michigan State, like they like the big 10 plenty, they like upper Midwest prospects,

you know, they've taken, you know, Darnel Savage from Maryland, that's not upper Midwest,

but that's big 10 again, upper Midwest prospect, Christian Watson North Dakota State, right,

they do that plenty.

So that makes sense, him being a shade over six to make sense, they need that perimeter

corner back, which he darn sure isn't playing nickel at the next level, if he makes it,

he's going to make it outside, he's got experience, should be able to play right away because

of how much football he's already played, and it's all a bunch of things they need, with

that said, the Packers like thicker corners, and he doesn't meet their weight threshold,

which I can make an excuse for, if he's five, ten and a half, he's six foot two plus,

he is thin, if he can put on weight, that's great, it's just unclear whether or not they're

going to change their mind on that issue, so that's what's keeping me from calling him

a high Packers fit, if he is a Green Bay Packer, I won't be surprised at all, bringing

him to Culver's, you know, get him the extra crispy fries, get him the butter burger, get

him the concrete mixer, that I go with the salted caramel concrete mixer with the cookie

dough, cannot be beat, salty, sweet, the whole nine, put on eight nine pounds, I compliment

him to the Travarius Ward, I think you be a good player.
