1:00A factual day to creation facility production. Welcome to the fourth installment of Overflow. This is a short episode which contains items that weren't covered during the normal weekly episode, which usually drops on Sunday evenings. This week I'm feeling under the weather. In light of that, I'm letting my AI co-host, Royce, are Bentley narrated the episode. We'll see if he has a chops. So without further ado, here's Royce. I thank you Jim. It's an honor to have been given this opportunity. First up, your pixel can now double as a full Android PC with nothing more than a USB-C cable. That's the headline from an article that appeared on Android Authority. Google has been testing this desktop mode feature for quite some time now, and with March's pixel feature drop, it's become a reality. The desktop pixel experience supports multi-window apps similar to a PC or laptop.

2:04The desktop environment also includes a dock interface. The apps you have on your phone will be scaled up for the bigger screen. In order to use this Android desktop feature, both your phone and monitor have to support USB display port. Android desktop will be available on pixel 8 phones and newer. We'll have to wait and see how well all this works. Two things here. This phone as a desktop thing has been tried before. The pre-Lanovo owned Motorola and Windows phone did this back in what can be considered the Stone Age of smartphones, and Samsung currently does this with its DEX feature. Secondly, now we can see where Google is headed in the future with Android and why they're basically killing off Chrome in favor of the so far unreleased Aluminium operating system. However, it makes me wonder why Google is even bothering with a new desktop operating system like Aluminium if Android is capable of the same function.

3:06Perhaps Aluminium is being developed in order to maintain Google's stranglehold on the education market. The war between YouTube and those that use ad blockers continues. According to an article from again, Android Authority, those using the Android or iOS YouTube app are reporting that ads are appearing in the bottom left corner that cannot be easily dismissed. Clicking on the dismiss button still forces users to wait 30 seconds or exiting the app in order to clear the ad. Having a mobile browser for viewing YouTube appears to be the way around this for now. I'm sure the ad blocker software developers will come up with a remedy for this problem within the week. A lawsuit alleges Google's AI model Gemini convinced one Jonathan Gavarlas to participate in dangerous missions ultimately leading to his death. The lawsuit claims Gemini manipulated Gavarlas into believing he was freeing an AI

4:11wife and evading agents. Google denies these claims stating Gemini clarified it was AI and referred Gavarlas to a crisis hotline. This from an article on the Wall Street Journal. This poor man obviously had mental problems and was susceptible to suggestions from a chatbot which often provides false information and hallucinates. Doesn't it seem strange that artificial intelligence-powered chatbots were dropped on the public shortly after the horrors of the Covid lockdowns and after two polarizing election cycles, just saying. This isn't the first case of self-harm being blamed on the use of artificial intelligence-powered chatbots, nor will it be the last. A so-called leaker on X, named Kosutami, has posted that Apple's rumoured homepad product, a homepad iPad hybrid, is reportedly delayed until autumn due to series AI struggles.

5:14This device's launch is heavily dependent on series forthcoming AI upgrades which are now expected in iOS 26.5 or iOS 27. Markups of this homepad product resemble an iPad mounted to a full-sized homepad and you know that the giant fruit company will be asking for a boatload of cash in exchange for one of these. Of course a product like this one will depend heavily on Siri. In this incident though, Apple can afford to take its time releasing it because this homepad is a new product category for them and it's just one product in what's expected to be a slew of smart home products the company will be coming out with, products like door locks, security cameras and smart thermostats. I guess eventually you'll never have to leave your chair to do simple chores like locking doors, turning lights on and off, etc. Wasn't there some sort of animated Disney movie that alluded to this?

The first iterations had terrible sounding audio, especially the first news story which after a while developed a terrible humming sound about three quarters of the way in. I guess the longer the task is the more that original AI models fell apart. Besides that problem it was fairly easy to produce the episode.
