Overcommitted or Expanding? How to Actually Tell the Difference
About this episode
I’m walking you through a season where I have had to ask myself: Am I stretching my capacity… or have I overcommitted?
Because there’s a difference.
Stretching feels uncomfortable, but aligned. Overcommitting feels heavy and draining.
In this conversation, I share:
- What stretching my capacity looked like in real life
- The signs I ignored when I crossed into overcommitment
- The moment I realized my calendar was running me
- The boundaries I’m putting in place right now
If your schedule is full but your energy isn’t… this is for you.

0:00Well, welcome back, everybody, to the Inferpilline Fact World Podcast. I'm dining in today to something that I have dealt with, and I am currently dealing with quite a bit. I would say I'm doing a lot better now. With this idea of when am I overcommitting myself and when am I stretching my capacity? Because I think we hear a lot of time from people that you need to make yourself uncomfortable. You need to stretch your capacity. That's how you expand it and allow yourself to receive more abundance and to receive more clients and to receive more and more and more. But I do have to say there is a point when you get to overcommitting yourself. And you're not just saying yes to too much, but you are draining your time and your
1:00energy and honestly you can't show up the way you want to or should for clients, friends, community, and any of those people. So I'm excited to dive in with you on this topic today and hopefully it resonates with some of you as well and helps you differentiate a little bit between the two for yourself. Before I do that, though, I want to mention two things, one, the immersion. So May 3rd to 7th this year, I am hosting it in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I have two spots left when I'm recording this episode for you. So should still have one or two potentially when the episode drops. And we are going to have an incredible, incredible week up there. It is masterminding and then taking that and getting to integrate and implement it through rest and recovery, through moving our bodies, through actual co-working and co-creation time. You get one on one coaching with me. We are hoping to get some little podcasting done as well. So being a guest here on the podcast, lots and lots and lots of fun. If I am sold out for the Wisconsin one, I also am bringing this back to Boone at the end of July this year.
2:01So I'm really excited. It's Boone, North Carolina. It's where I live. It's where I hosted my first two last year. It's just cozy and amazing. It's Wisconsin's great too. You can't go wrong with either one. But this will be my third time bringing it to Boone and we just have an incredible community here of local women and people who just want to pour in to each other. So I am so excited to be bringing both of those to you. If you are interested in either one, I'm going to link it down in the show notes. And then also I have opened up officially and I am so proud of myself. I have an official wait list for IME. So this is the immersion mastermind experience. So this is the program that I offer that is kind of in between the emergence and a room really to continue the mastermind, the accountability, the integrating, the prioritizing what actually is meant for you and not and having the support of the other women that are part of the program but also me who gets to hold you accountable to showing up to taking action. We create. So you get actually with me one on one time to create your 90 day plan.
3:03And then we take that 90 day plan and that is what we're taking action on the 90 days. And then at the next 90 day mark, we do another one on one session. We create and take everything your 2026 or whatever the current your desires are. We break it down into what this 90 days your action and take action on. We do action steps and every 30 days is when that mastermind call is that we check in on it. We also do co-working. We also have a chat. You get access to the elevated collective, which is a subconscious hypnotherapy community that I know is so important for you to have to be able to show up fully in your business and show up for the action taking steps. I can recommend the ones that I want you to listen to, but it's all included in part of the program. So so excited to have that wait list open. We will be reopening those doors actually at the beginning of May. So it opens at the end of the next immersion, just a great little easy way for me every three months to get people in and make sure you're taking care of your 90 day plan done and then we run with it from there. So if you're interested, wait list link is down and also the show notes.
4:03I would love to see you there. If you have questions, you can head over to Instagram, shoot me a message or go on my website and you can ask questions as well and submit a form. I would love to like answer any questions you have, jump on a call and very intentional on who comes into the space. So I do not say yes to everybody, also, just with an FYI, but all right, I've rambled enough on all of that stuff. So let's jump into the episode. So over committing versus stretching your capacity, when you hear that, I want you to sit there for a moment and I'd love to know where you're currently at. You might not be in either of these bubbles. You might just be coasting and doing really well. I would be curious though right now, are you stretching your capacity? Or are you at a point that you've over committed? And I'm actually going to share myself where I've been at in different phases over this last year specifically because I've kind of tapped into the coasting, doing well, really just having a lot of free time, pivoting into the stretching of my capacity and getting
5:07to a point of over commitment and where now where I'm currently at, I am backtracking to a point where I am stretching my capacity, but I'm not over committing because as you know, I've mentioned this many times in the episodes, my word of this year is simplicity because I am doing a lot of things. And this might be the episode where I share everything that I'm doing with you. So I might not touch on everything, but you will see why here shortly. So a year ago, in February of 2025, I finally got my first fractional client. I had my event host community that was still going and I had two clients that I was doing full time event planning and coordinating for, like actively working with them. And when I think about that time frame, I see myself as I was kind of coasting, financially not in a great spot, to be honest, but aside from financials, I had a lot of time for myself. I actually was canceling and rescheduling calls. I needed that time. If you listen to any of my previous episodes talking about beginning of last year, February
6:09March was big times where I cocooned in. I needed to. I was going through a massive identity shed and just shedding this old identity of myself. And so really like February, March, April, I was kind of coasting. I was doing some work, felt good. I had a lot of time for myself. And then I would say about May, June, even beginning of July, I was in this like starting to stretch my capacity. I got a second client, a big actually project that I took on for 10 months, that is just now actually wrapping up when I'm recording this, which is crazy to think. And then I also committed with a friend here locally that we were going to start doing walks in the walks for every Saturdays. I love that because I've been wanting to tap more and more into the local community and felt like it was something that was missing where we could just walk and talk and truly connect with depth more than anything else. So started that. And then I ended up getting another client at the beginning of June and did some onboarding and started with them in July. And so kind of like I said, May, June, July, I was stretching my capacity but feeling really
7:13good. I had the podcast going still at the same time. I was sending emails not consistently, but I was sending them, but I was at this point that I was really here on YouTube, you see my hands. It was like this like, it's like this breathing, like moving of like stretching and like going inwards. It was kind of this back and forth, this flow of stretching my capacity and being good and stretching and being good. And then in the midst of June, July, I had started meetings with some people locally who were building their, were creating their first nonprofit. And so I was like, oh, I love to support you all. So I said, yes to that. I then decided I also wanted to host locally, coffee and co-working just once a month, but do some coffee and co-working very easy. So then I was like, hey, we're going to do that. I then took on another client. This one was a 30 day project originally, plus I was trying to do the podcast. And I still had my walks going on.
8:14I also had my two other clients. I also had my original fractional client. And I had somebody else that was interested in working with me. And I just decided to say, yes, it was a retainer. So come August, I was loving what I was doing. I was making good money. But I'll be honest, August, September, October, and even into November a little bit was brutal. I had said yes to way too many things. I had let some clients like drop off, but then I would get another client in the place and it's nothing to complain about. But at this point, I had over committed myself and said, yes, so too many things to the point that I was working 10 plus hour days, 5, 6, 7 days a week. I was stressed. I was just not in a great place. And on top of all of that, I was training for Jopie Challenge, shooting the back a couple of episodes and listening to that. So you have to think I was physically putting stress on my body during the training, plus mentally and emotionally, kind of just dealing with all these things.
9:14And to be honest, some of the clients, there was just drama and just other stuff that I did not need to deal with. And as a third party, as a consultant, as somebody who was part time, I felt like a lot of things were falling on me. And I was kind of not the great person to say, no, I'm not going to do that. And I'm having, and I've had to release since then learn that there are some things that I, I'm not responsible for it, somebody else. It's not me. I have to say no until then that that's not part of our contract, it's not part of what I do. That's fine. I'm happy to say this is what we need to do. Let's find somebody and give it to them, but I'm not going to do it myself. So it was a big learning time. November, I finally got a little bit of breathing, I'll be honest. And then going into December, I got another really big client that I was excited for, because I already had some pre-work done for a previous client that I could kind of reuse for them. That's the medical client side is why. So I got really excited. And then this is when I had hired a team member and it didn't work out. And it felt everything back on me.
10:16And so January and February this year has been a huge over commitment. I ran the Dopey Challenge finally in January. I had one client go live in their new software in January. I have another one currently going live or just went live in February. We're finalizing things still. I am still working with two other fractional clients. And then I have my mentorship program that I do. And that's where I love. So that was the big thing that I going into 2026 was I cannot keep doing all these things. I have the walks. I'm doing coffee and co-working. I'm wanting to host some things locally. I want to build community here locally in Boone, but I can't do all of that myself. So I'm going to pause for a second here because I listed off a lot of things. And I kind of really want to touch on like the breaking point of stretching capacity versus over committing because stretching capacity, yes, it takes time and energy. But there is this uncomfortability that happens in it.
11:19But you can still like roll your shoulders. You can show up and you can do it. And you learn from it and it supports you and your life and your business. Overcommitting to me is when all of a sudden you are draining your time and energy to the point that like you can't show up the same way. You are exhausted. You are spending so much time your days are filled in calls and meetings. And that's honestly what was happening to me is I was having four or five up to eight calls a day every day of the week. And I was like, I cannot keep doing this. I cannot sit on calls and then get off of six calls in one day and then try to actually finally get this work done. Like no, I'm not going to sit on six calls. So this is the realization I had and that's when I realized I was over committed. I was like, my calendar is full of calls. I am barely having time to get things done. So I'm having to do that over the weekends or in my evenings or get up early in the morning and do it. So I just challenge you to look at your life. If you are someone who is like, I don't know if I'm over committed or if I'm stretching
12:21my capacity, look and see where your time and your energy are going. But like maybe look at your calendar and look at all the commitments that you said yes to. I am currently in this phase that I finally now coming into March, feel like I'm stretching my capacity still, but I'm no longer over committing because I'm saying no to things. I actually have my last event this month, later a month, then I'll mention at the end that I is my last one I'm supporting and coordinating. I will no longer be coordinating or planning events because it's not worth my time and energy anymore with everything else going on. I'd rather just attend the event, which is so great to say and so exciting. But I now know I'm setting boundaries. I'm saying I'm only taking calls on Monday and Thursday. The max amount of calls I'll take both of those days is four. And that's it in doing all of this and in setting these boundaries, I also been clearing out my clients and saying no to the ones. The most important thing I am doing is realizing that, okay, I do want to build community here locally. So there's some things I want to do here locally.
13:23And I do still have some fractional clients that I love supporting. And then I do have, you know, my mentorship to me, mentorship is number one. I am one-on-one mentorship is the number one thing that I want to be doing. Secondly is building community here in Boone. Right now that financially my stability is in my fractional clients and that's project management side. So I have realized that even though that's where the money's coming in, that's where I need to hire. So all I'm doing is showing up maybe once a week onto a call, understanding where we're at, what needs to be done. And then I pass it off to a team member and I hire a team who can support me more fully and what I am doing and what I'm creating so that I can continue supporting the people I want to and continue bringing that money in. And it all does not fall on me. So I can prioritize building my community and my mentorship program and showing up here on the podcast. So it's really hard because I, again, I'm still actively in the midst of this.
14:25I am still actively working on clearing my schedule, clearing the clients, cleaning it up. And to be honest, I'm still in the process of trying to find somebody. So if you know anybody who's interested in project management, accountability following up on clients, wants to learn a new software and support in those ways, please let me know. I am like all ears and looking, this process is a little bit more tedious than when I did six months ago because I need the right person that I can trust and I want to trust them fully and be able to train them and teach them and then let them run with it and have ownership over it. So I am very excited to be at this point. And I'm going to have to give you an update because I'm actively in this right now. I'm actively hiring. I am actively in transition from over commitment into stretching my capacity because it's good to stretch capacity. It's also really good, I think, for me to cruise for a little bit as well. So we're kind of slowly are working our way back down so I can build that back up my time and energy to then be able to get back into a season, maybe a stretch of my capacity. But just know one, over commitment is not a good thing.
15:28Stretching your capacity is, you also don't need to be constantly stretching your capacity. It's okay to be content. I know. I struggled when I was told that six months ago that contentment's okay. You can be content. Yes, there is seasons, there is growth, there is scaling, there are times when, yeah, stretch your capacity. You need that uncomfortability and it's okay to be content, it's okay to be cruising. Other than that, thrive in it, whatever it is you need to do. So I hope this episode was beneficial for you. I hope you took something away. Maybe you need to come back to the set another time when you start to feel overwhelmed and like, oh, I've been saying yes to a lot of things and it's all starting to hit at one time. Come back and use this hopefully to slowly work through and realize, okay, I have over committed myself. What do I need to start doing to letting those things go or hiring support to support me and those things? Sometimes it's saying no, sometimes it's saying, I know I said yes, but I can't do this anymore. I had to do that this last fall and it was the hardest thing ever.
16:29So just tune in and intuitively connect and just see what you need and where you're at. The last thing I wanted to mention on this was just very, very briefly that somewhat's happening at the end of March in National Tennessee. I mentioned this in the last episode on my reflections from my Boulder Business Intensive that I attended. Would love to see you there. I'm going to link it in the show notes. It's a really cool two day event all around soul and strategy and connection and I am helping that's the event. I'm helping coordinate. That will be my last event ever that I'm going to do that with. Yeah, I'm holding myself to that. You might need to help hold me to that as well. But I am going in helping coordinate and I'm actually speaking at the VIP portion of facilitating an incredible rooted and ready, what to prioritize most. And so I am really excited to be facilitating that for them for the VIP group specifically. Just where either I was in my smaller intimate spaces if you can't tell with the immersion and IME. And I am here. If you have thoughts, if anything resonated, please share this with somebody, share it on your social or just reach out to me and let me know because I love hearing from you
17:31to know if each episode resonates or not. So I will see you next time on Imperfectly Impactful. I hope you have a beautiful rest of your day.
