On The Wire Episode 266 — FAAB 25 (Sunday, September 6, 2026)
Adam and Kevin work through a roster-expansion-heavy news day — IL moves, call-ups, and DFAs across the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Pirates, Cubs, Angels, Mets, Dodgers, Orioles, Padres, Nationals, and Mariners — before getting into hitters (power, speed, opportunity) and pitchers (volume, ratios, saves) with only three FAAB periods left in the season. A recurring theme is stat-category tunnel vision down the stretch: drop anyone you can't use this week, target cellar-dwelling offenses like the Angels for pitching streams, and pick your spots by ballpark and schedule rather than name value. Kevin closes with a reminder to map out matchups two to three weeks ahead and start trimming bench pitchers you won't actually use.

I think it's time to get a new mic, put this one in the trash. We've both been running the same
mic for as long as we've been doing this podcast. Time is a flat circle. I always forget it for five years or six years, but either way. I think we're both in we're both due for an upgrade in that department. Yeah, well our first season was the strength short and season or it just come to an end, I believe, something like that. So yeah, yeah, it's been a while and you've been hanging out for a good amount of time. Technology's not supposed to last that long. Expensive right. Use it as often as you do. So kind of traveling with it as often as a half. Yeah. But this is fun. This is the fun episode only because you know, this is, you know, September, we are in September, we are in the middle or beginning or end for some people, your head-to-head playoffs on your Yahoo fan tracks, CBS type of, type of leagues and rosters of expanded. So
teams have a couple of extra bodies, extra mouths to feed. So it puts a little bit of extra effort on our part to really identify the playing time opportunities, the added bullpen arm that might be put into the mix and it allowed unfortunately, it does allow teams to be a little bit more loose with the skipping of a day in the rotation or you know, going with a six-man rotation or maybe even giving your closer a day off just because you can, especially for those playoff teams that are just trying to make it to October with a full squad. Some teams are doing a better job of that than others, but we'll get it into all of that as we as we roll in. So let's go right into it. So the Yankees are one of those teams who are expecting to be in the playoffs and just want to have a healthy roster. They're going to go pretty much the rest of September with one missing
piece that is Trent Grisham. He hits the I.L. with a wow. My typing was terrible on the right. He was giving this meant hamstring injury, but somehow I put HDD as matting injury. Thank you very much for that auto correct. But yeah, hamstring injury for Trent Grisham. He hits the I.L. Jason Dominguez returns to take his spot on the Yankees roster, but looking a little bit more forward, Aaron Boone is hoping slash expecting to get Aaron Judgeback in the mix on their next home stand next week with all that in mind, with all that, Kevin, what is the outlook that you have for well, you first, first are you I mean, we're at a point in the season where we're able and feel feel free to drop pretty much anybody who hits the I.L. at any point in September, even if even if you think they're going to hit the minimum timeframe. So I'm assuming you're dropping Trent Grisham wherever
you might have him. Are you bothering to bid on Jason Dominguez with the news that Aaron Judge may come back and just ultimately take all that playing time. Thanks. So because I think the big winner here is Spencer Jones. Everybody kind of moved out of slot, but he moved up to a three slots versus right. Where Christian was leading off. So Spencer Jones has been hitting over the last couple of games versus right handed starters in clean up slot. And that's a big winner. Jason Dominguez, do get called up here on Saturday as we were recording. It was versus a lefty. He did not get into the game. And but I'm even if we see him process the righties, the Yankee Space 5 out of 6 this week, even if we see him. Yeah, I expect I don't think they're going to move Spencer Jones to the bench for Jason Dominguez or they already would have done that right. This has
been what they've been row low with the past couple of months. So yeah, I am not in on Jason Dominguez this week, but Spencer Jones, where available is intriguing due to moving up in the lineup a bit. Yeah, do you think I mean this is for short stay for Dominguez with Aaron Judge tentatively coming back. Do you think this is just a you know, he's here for the weekend, the remainder of the weekend. And then he's the first you know, last man in first man out one judge comes back or do you think there's somebody else that could make room. Well, unless this really turns in or listening lose someone else sort of one of the judge has a big setback. No, I think though, well, with this Jason Dominguez, they'll be happy to have him on their bench as a pinch hitters. Start a couple of games a week. Give these guys all a break. But yeah, George Lombard back in the lineup after his injury. He had missed four straight games back in the every day at shortstop. So as crazy as it sounds, the game he's have a fairly stable lineup right now.
Yeah, obviously they've got to make room somehow to send to get Aaron Judge back on the roster. So up, we can see what the corner's spawning move ends up being there. They are running with, I mean, they I know they said that it wouldn't happen. But you know, Ben Rice could move. They are kind of rolling with three catchers right now with Austin Wells, Ali Sanchez and Ben Rice. Ben Rice not playing catcher at all ever. But there's always that possibility that that ends up being the move. But you have to wait and see for next week to see what actually happens. Staying in, you know what, I'm going to jump all the way to the bottom. I'm just going to get all the ALI stuff out of the way first going over to my Red Sox. So we we're talking about we're thinking about what the corresponding moves would be for the return of Trevor's story and Ramona Anthony. And we saw it we found out that it ended up being Anthony Sealer and Mickey Gasper getting sent down.
The good news here is that Mickey Jasper is back. The bad news is it's because Boston lost Wilson Contreras to the I L. So Jasper comes back just two day or just a day after being sent down even before roster is actually expanded. And so we have Jasper back in Contreras on the I L. Jasper seems to be playing regularly or at least splitting time at first base. And he is, you know, he was the one that you were hoping to see not get any kind of playing time, lose any kind of playing time with the return of the other two guys. Are you still interested in Mickey Jasper going into this, you know, going into the next couple weeks? I am, but I'm so disappointed that I don't have any of the three whole runs to hit already this week. Can he sit down on Sunday? Didn't bid on him, right? Right.
Very few people did. His percentages are still where they are last week. So yes, once again, he hasn't at the top of my power categories for pickups and smooth. Yeah, batting started at first base ever since getting called back up as a as a alluded to taking the place of Wilson Contreras and also batting in the two hole, which is not what he was doing prior. Batting it in the bottom third of the line up most of those times. So a little bit of caution. The Red Sox tomb phase three left handed pitchers next weekend. All three, Gasper will not play. It's those lefties most likely. But we have three weeks to go in the season. Contreras with the hamstring. No idea how that is going so far. He's been out about half of the time. He's the minimum for the IL4. But versus the righties, the rest of the way. I'd love to have Gasper in there until Contreras comes back. And we talked about it last week. Like you said, I was really hoping Gasper wasn't the guy that lost out and maybe continuing the mash like he has. Maybe he will
change some minds. Yeah, with the lefties coming up, expect Andrew Mars Faro and or Nick Sogart to fill in at first base during those matchups. Again, ALEs get it all all the way here. The rays, they lose Shane McClannahan once again to the IL this time with forearm tightness. You hate to hear it. But again, with especially being a pitcher at minimum 15 day IL and forearm tightness. Don't like to hear it in general. They also had a little bit of a scare with Brian Baker. Their closer leaving Fridays, the parents a little bit early after walking the only two batters he faced. It was reported that it was only due to an illness and not an injury. Tyler Wells did finish the game and record another save for the rays. Expect well. I expect Wells to get any save opportunities at least through the rest of the weekend. But yeah, what other
what other observations can you make from this in the from the raised pitching situation with McClannahan on the IL and Baker giving us a little bit of a scare. Yeah, they still have five with Pearl to Jack, Nick Martinez, Rasmussen and Ian Seymour. They may have been wanted to go back on Ian Seymour's innings a bit and maybe ease her from Jack's back into things a little more since he came back. But I think they're going to run with those five and I absolutely agree Tyler Wells and Phil Baker is feeling healthy again. All the speculation of what the illness could possibly be. I didn't even put it in the outline but I'm just I'm hoping it's not just more poison ivy which is what Luke Weaver was reporting was the reason for him his struggles over the last month month and a half which is just very disturbing to get to live with that severe of a
poison of poison ivy and can't do anything about it right literally and notice you have to pitch through man do not envy him. Speaking of Pittsburgh great. Oh wow, I did not mean to do that but that was a good segue. They do get back under Griffin into their lineup. He was activated from the IEL on Friday the pirates DFA Christian Benton Court to make room for Griffin is Griffin available anywhere and I mean I know I dropped him in a place with the in the one roster that I that I just got some places yes. How how you know if you have any money left are you are you spending the money on Griffin here probably yeah I don't there's no reason to hold on to it at this point so
he's still 99% rostered in 12 so maybe people were just talking about dropping or maybe I saw the one or two spots where he did I thought I ever called the seeing that in NFC leaks as well that he's 99% rostered even 12. Yeah 80% started so obviously a lot of a lot of people were expecting him to come back over the weekend so they got him into their lineups never mind this is in the main event so we're you know he always good to check just in case. Yeah. They've not first let these added bonus bonus. All right staying in the NL Central now the Cubs are going to be without Ben Brown for the rest of the season he will miss the rest of the season with a neck injury but on the somewhat more positive news they do expect to have Edward Cabrera back next week but they do plan on or they were planning on using him in the bullpen do you
think there's any chance that that changes with Ben Brown being missing the rest of the season? Probably not what they do have him for some added depths right there on the roster ready to go if needed but yeah they're they're gonna run with what they have been here recently boy Peterson, Goson, Jim and Aga and Clay Holmes. Yeah and then I mean Edward Cabrera just enters into a bullpen that's a kind of kind of struggling at the moment. Jake Webb had a little bit of an injury scare Daniel Plenzi as since returning has not looked like he did before. He did that first outing when we were talking and he had a good outing as we were recording but he hasn't been very good since. So Cabrera from when I remember reading wasn't looking that great in his rehab sense either so we'll see how he kind of mixes into the bullpen situation for the Cubs. Just housekeeping here we're talking about guys who are missing the rest of the season.
Luis Ranguivo will also miss the rest of the season with not only an ACL tear but also an MCL sprain so add injury to injury here for Ranguivo and you can yeah that that could affect the early part of the next season as well. Yeah exactly but on a more positive note the New York mets are tentatively hoping or expecting to see Jonah Tongue back in their rotation or at least do a spot start for them next week. Is this are you excited enough about Tongue at this point to you know place any added bids or put him toward the top of any kind of waterfalls that you might be looking for? No but he does have to be in those waterfalls I think for most of us that are looking for starting pitching he is widely available that didn't perform up to expectations when we saw him earlier in the season however he does line up or do step this week if he gets more
than that one start and at the moment that is what we're seeing on most projections is that he will pitch again over the weekend at the New York Yankees but not a great match up but I think you will for the best for that match up at Miami on Monday. I guess we'll see if judges back in the line up by then as well and that'll obviously make a big difference. Exactly. All right well like I talked about before we did see some rosters expand all rosters expanded everybody gets two extra roster spots on September 1st and we're going to talk about a couple of the more notable ones or expansions but first we're going to take a quick break. All right the first one let's start with the Dodgers they not only expanded their roster but they got a whole bunch of players back from the I.L. all pretty much on the same day. First they do expand one of their expansion spots
went to Alex Freeland they call him back up but then they also returned three players from the I.L. Will Smith, Justin Robleski and Dalton rushing all returned from the I.L. for the Dodgers and what I thought was a little bit of a surprising move was Alex Thomas and Ben wrote belt wrote vert were DFA and more surprised about the Alex Thomas one obviously he had just been called up to fill in for center in center field. So with both the DFA of Thomas and the addition of all these other guys how are the Dodgers you know like I said there's extra mouths to feed whose mouth is being fed the most. Well all of a sudden Alex Freeland and Miguel Rojas are good enough at second base so they can move Tommy Edmond to the outfield that wasn't good enough until this week evidently and now all of a sudden it is it's crazy like you said but yeah we are seeing with
the Otani injury as well he hasn't played in three straight games I do expect him back for a majority of the week maybe a day or two off and probably not pitching but I expect to see him back in the line if he did hit the cage on Saturday so I expect to see him back that's going to eat into what they've been doing for the past three or four days but in reggae Hernandez has been getting a couple of extra started versus a writing here on Saturday typically only in their versus lefties I'm also surprised all in rushing hasn't gotten into a game yet. Ferdusia has been the catcher when we'll smith it's not for the five for two of the five games we'll smith in the other three in rushing not getting in the game so don't rush out to well I did not intend that but you know what I was about to say yeah that's the one surprising thing here to me in this lineup is the lack of Dalton rushing. Listen when when those fall into your lap Kevin you
just gotta take it man. I surprised myself because I wasn't planning on it. Yeah. Not myself off guard. More more expansion well both roster expansion and just adding to the roster comes in my another AL East that I got out of out of order here the Baltimore Orioles they expand their outfield options by first claiming Luis Robert Jr off of waivers from the Mets which I thought was a pretty surprising move for the Orioles to make at this point not only do they have other outfielders that you know obviously Robert is a talent and can be you know helpful. It's just a lot of money I believe he's got he's got a 20 million dollar team option but a it's like a two or three million dollar buyout and then there was two million dollars left on the one month of service that they're getting so it was basically if they don't
claim it's either they're either on the hook for 23 million or 5 million either way a lot of money for a month worth of service whether or not the Orioles feel that confident about taking that third wild card spot obviously is you know he's up there but they also with with the roster expansion they also add Hesting Kierstead back to the roster adding another outfielder outfield option to their roster what what are the Orioles doing in the outfield Kevin with all these outfield again more mouths the feed yeah we will we'll see Luis Robert Jr versus lefty's we've seen him versus one of the three righties they have faced but that's with Kierstead only getting into one of those games as well how is there it is going to play against the righty sit versus the lefty so my question is what are we going to do we're seeing this game on Saturday with Kierstead
getting in the game into right field with and reverse the typical left fielder versus righties in there and and Colton Cows are in center so this this maybe what they want to do going forward it's hard to tell we got a monitor this over the weekend because Kierstead did not play in the first two games they got called up that were versus righties as well but it appears that that could be the case it can add Kierstead to what we see it a little more in the lineup versus righties Robert definitely versus lefts yeah I mean I would expect to see Robert in more than just against lefties but still like it's just with with all that uncertainty I mean no matter what I mean you've got Robert on your roster he's probably not available to be picked up so it's just a matter of what checking out that checking out the schedule and you know playing him when you think he's going to get the majority of those starts for that half week and if you think he's going to sit
one day out of the weekend maybe it's not worth it if you've got better options yeah um C and Diego the Padres they bring up pitching prospect Ethan Salas as part of their expanded roster how much playing time is he's seen obviously this is a this is a MLB debut type in a type of expansion here for Salas with a lot of a lot of name recognition in the prospect world coming up only 20 years old still how you know how excited should we be at least for the remainder of the 2026 fantasy season I'm excited to get to see him play the handful of times he will play but I still think 80 to 90% of the time it's going to be firming or a copasson of the half plate we're not going to see a lot of Salas he's getting to know the pitching staff the major league coaching staff and being ready for spring training maybe Arizona fall league I looked at who the podries are
sending yet but yeah I don't I don't think Ethan Salas is going to get a ton of playing time but he is going to be fun to watch and we've been talking about this kids since he was what 14 right he feels like he's 20 years old but he feels like he's been around for the last decade and yeah exactly he basically has another expanded roster for with another process by power hitting prospect from the Washington Nationals they call up you know handy Morales to their roster who's got you know 25 or so home runs in AAA this year does you know is this again is this just like a nice little cup of coffee for a team not going anywhere or is he going to get a little bit of a run for between now and the end of September well I'm getting the start on Friday versus the left handed starting pitcher gives me a little optimism even though he's sitting on Saturday he did play in the first three games since he was called up that does give me
a little optimism that they do let him roll with this here and that we mean that we do have interest for that power and you spoke of it it probably means that Andre Shapiro is it going to get the playing time that I was hoping he would be getting at this point I was hoping he would take over or Tizis played appearances who's really slowed down a little bit at first base in D.H. for the Nationals but now I think that's will probably go to Morales now they have all three been playing but we've only seen Morales on the roster for three games and all of these guys have missed at least one of the three so they're kind of shuffling all three but I think what Tizis is the one that eventually I and we've got three weeks left but I think by maybe the end of the week for the last couple weeks of the season or Tizis maybe the one losing out on more played paraxes yeah with all these situations that we've been talking about it's it's
teams that you know are either quite a quite a bit outside that last wild card spot or just completely out of it and it's a domino effect it's like you don't know how much the trust the guy who just called up I don't know like how much how much rumor they trying to give them and who is it going to impact was I already kind of interested in Shapiro as you mentioned now it's like you kind of can't be especially if you know every single at bat matters so much down the stretch it's a it's it's hard not to be excited about a lot of these players but it's like really really put the damper on all that excitement when it's like I don't even know who's if they're going to play or how much they're gonna they're gonna end up playing so maybe you just look at it from the outside as a fan and just hope for the best. Last one here that I'll mention as far as expanded rosters Seattle it was it was kind of reported throughout the weekend that Seattle was
expected to call up Lazaro Montes and they do it they just waited until the rosters expanded so he joins their lineup options for the Mariners and completely unrelated to roster expansions they do make a pitching change here with Emerson and Emerson Hancock going in in the aisle earlier in the week they replaced him with Nick Davila who was on their taxi squad but he will obviously join the bullpen so before going into Montes's playing time Hancock putting it basically creating an opening in the Seattle rotation how are the Mariners dealing with that. They're gonna get Bryce Miller another chance is what it looks like and probably for two step in diverse Texas and then Atwa Sacramento unfortunately one one one nice matchup one definitely the ballpark is not a great matchup although the athletics have cooled off considerably
but yeah Bryce Miller's back. Man like it's like he never left. He's like Nick he gasped. It's like he's not actually injured or just one of those things it's the same thing with the Dodgers they're like saying how defense is so important and so Alex Thomas was up and now all of a sudden it's not important or well we're gonna move Miller into the into the bullpen because he's dealing with an injury and you know not an injury enough to go on the IEL but an injury nonetheless you know what I guess the injuries gone so because we have to meanwhile they could call up Ryan Sloan instead to make a bet he could have been part of the expansion of the roster expansion. Nope nope I'm not holding on to Ryan Sloan anywhere by any means that's definitely not true but Montes was the one of the expansions here and he's gone into he started three out of the five games that he has been up for so far
missing both games against lefties when they start on the mound for the opposing teams. Do this is a decent sample size for his the beginning of his MOB career do you expect that to be how we how the Mariners deal with him throughout the rest of September. The problem is they they face a lot of lefties coming up and so far they have not been starting him versus the lefties. Sad against both of them that they have faced started against the three right handers and Seattle faced his four lefties this week and then two out of three the first half of the following but I think if you want Montes you have to get him to this Sunday I think he's going to be a popular at that power I mean the his next home run is his 40th professional home run this season
so and I do expect him to get that with the Seattle before probably by the end of the week even though they're only going to face a couple of righties this week. Yeah I mean that's if you're desperate for home runs that's you only need the one right it's like right 30% strikeout rate he's done that throughout the minors you're sticking right in that area didn't skyrocket to 40% I know it's only been five games but when we see that we get really worried so yeah I think if you need some power at least in the minor he still hits about 250 with that strikeout rate if you can keep that up you know even 230 240 if you work at Zora's power yeah and this obviously it seems to play right into pushing Taylor Ward into the short end of that platoon pairing them yeah they've been trying to do that right yeah and they've been trying to do it and then they're like they are we have we have to play you we have to play our note now now we're officers are expanded we have an excuse yeah well yeah there were a lot of other
obviously team every team made some expansions those were just some of the ones to look out for but if there was one that was made that will make an impact for you obviously you should be taking a look at that and and making your waterfall bids accordingly but let's get into actual recommendations Kevin for this for this coming uh fab period only three more left Kevin uh gotta spend that money and we're gonna do that right after this break all right Kevin we need power and Montas has already been discussed uh the Zora Montas of the Seattle Mariners that is uh so who else is gonna be out there that's gonna be part of those waterfall bids alongside Montas yeah um don't forget about Mickey Gaspard we couldn't pick him up last week where we could have but we didn't want you you got sent down after we recorded but before we ran fat um i like Sean Brophy has some availability if you're looking for a catcher uh he's been
hitting like he hits throughout his career when he's nice and healthy we haven't seen that for for a while and he's got a little bit of availability out there so i like Sean Brophy for some power this week this may seem like uh kind of uh uh stretch for power for the power category but i do think he fits in here how you leap you've brought him up a couple of times recently Adam for Detroit didn't every day at that's now um and he does have a couple of old runs over the last couple of weeks and Detroit has some nice mimeats shops this week he's been moving up to the top of the order close to it and the two hole behind Claver Torres when they face left these and then drops back down to his you know six or seven spot versus righties but uh he's playing every single day and with a couple of old runs over the last couple of weeks i i do think that that could continue with these matchups he has coming up uh love to see also the fact that Mickey gasper has catcher
eligibility um he's like that's the only thing he has eligibility in the NFBC right now in my in my home league he has catcher and infield eligibility because because he is played like it was like Yahoo league so you only need five right and so he had started five games at various infield positions um so yeah so that's fun but yeah Mickey gasper uh still 38% rostered in the main event so still readily available um in just over just just under two thirds of leagues out in those 15 teamers um and yeah a pilbot loves um uh uh you lead uh as you mentioned him um uh so you near on the right track you're on the right track hopefully yeah let's like nice matchups yep exactly all that's all you can ask for at this point is you're just following the schedule and following the matchups and hoping hoping for the best um yeah the other shan
Murphy also at the top of the home run projection list for those who are available in 15 teamers um at 50% rate or higher so good like the like the callouts there as well uh shee wick comb also uh call out from pilbot from uh the San Francisco Giants um in the power and specifically in the home run um category as well um so there a couple a couple of names out there to pair along with mantis as as we keep mentioning him uh yeah shee wick him we talked about briefly last week i think he was my wild card even though he was already on the roster just because we hadn't seen enough from him to what if he was going to continue to get some playing time but uh he's in the lineup both days yep yeah he's only uh he's only not started to out of the no dozen or so games that he's been up for um since the the end of august so yet getting plenty of playing time there
he got some power still only eight percent rostered in 15 teamers uh so if you need that uh corner in you know uh i think he's got does he have uh dual eligibility already or he just have third base um he's oh yeah he's got second base and third base eligibility so he's got the corner middle availability for you in that area as well so decent amount of power in that uh especially if they're playing any games outside of san francisco um for the for the coming week um all right Kevin we need more than just power we need some speed on our side here uh who's gonna steal a couple bases or score some runs for us this coming week i like dust and hair uh sandia go uh only plays versus rites so we haven't seen him much this week they just based for consecutive left handed starting pictures uh it does appear that coming up this week san diego is gonna face uh
four rites two lefties two lefties in the first half so we can't play him the first half we can play him next weekend and then going forward uh the podres are set to base six out of seven rites the following week dust and hair is available everywhere and i would pick him up to use next weekend onward for gris to seize nice um yet uh we talked about him last week as well uh turner hill uh lots uh one of his their favorite ones uh for to steal some bases and he you know he's been starting pretty much every game uh does sit against lefties every once in a while but if i'm not mistaken uh yeah the giants should face off against mostly rites it looks like they might have two lefties throughout the course of the week um one in the first half one in the second half so you know he could still come in in pinch run um in the in the end of the game as well and then uh
richi palacios um for tampa bay regularly sits against lefties pretty much all season but does have a lot of speed um in in his uh in his legs in tampa bay only face faces uh one left or at least is so much scheduled to face one lefty throughout the course of the week thursday against that land they should face off against chris sale so um you know stealing off against stealing against the lefties isn't the easiest thing to do anyway that's just they're just staring at you the whole time um but so palacios should get plenty of playing time for tampa bay uh throughout the course of the week especially yeah on the weekend yep absolutely i love that and we've talked about this guy a lot but he's still available everywhere because he doesn't play tyler tolbert but he had a stolen base this week with zero played appearances he had two stolen bases last week with five played appearances i believe uh he if you don't need the power if you have cushion in your counting stats especially
home runs in rbi the best chance for a stolen base is tyler tolbert he has a better chance of getting you a scorer base and multiple stolen bases even with the lack of playing time than any player of it it's just we're at the time of year right where it's you only care about one category that's your man yeah exactly uh nice nice well if you care about more categories you're more interested in this opportunity section here uh so let's get into the schedule as we talked about earlier uh you got to follow the schedule in september and there are only two teams that have the seven game work week and that is atlana and filidelfe everybody else has six nobody has five so that's nice uh calorado will be on the road all week leaving course field empty as they head into as they have rocky road for the yankees to start the week and for the tigers to end the week um and then
after that they do have ten straight games at course uh coming up um all seven the week prior and then three to begin the final week so lots of baseball still to be played in taking advantage of in calorado um but just not this coming week uh since an adi will also leave great america small park empty as they travel to la to face the dodgers to start and then three against milwaki in milwaki and then they go back home all the following week so again plenty of plenty of opportunity to take advantage of great america small park um just not this coming week though the athletics they are the ones that we can take advantage of this week as they have an entire home series uh two home series back to back this coming week three against Toronto and three against the mariners uh and then they go back on the road so they they're doing a nice little they're doing it good for us where they're like all your games are either on the road or all your games are at home so we're not
if every major league team shared a team with a minor league baseball team we we'd have this for everybody um um i don't know if the river cats are are in the playoffs or if their playoffs have started in the pcl yet but uh um that that you know that won't matter too off uh too much if that's not the case uh but with all that kevin and everything else that we've talked about who looks like they have a good opportunity ahead of themselves that we can take advantage of yeah the in general that the full schedule here uh adding in what's going on the rest of the season with those favorable ball parks and already with some of the players we talked about uh just far in the show i'm looking ahead because we're not stashing anybody right we we can drop almost anybody we can't use this week other than what we're looking ahead to we can start if we have a lot of pitching on our bench we
can start trimming it we're not going down to our nine or ten for the final week yet but we can start working in that direction so we should have a little bit of flexibility with our rosters to to look at the schedule further ahead than just this coming week and but i'm looking at Cincinnati because they although they are on the road this week they are lying out to face five left handed uh starting pictures and game Myers starts everything and that that they face the lefty could have been a speed play speed runs decent adding average is what we're looking for here but the opportunity it's not often that he's going to get five starts in a week nice um yeah i mean i you have to try to take advantage uh of what little options the athletics give you uh when they are playing all of their games in um in west Sacramento uh so my eyes do go to Carlos Cortez who
you know did sit against a bunch of lefties in a row but does start against all your righties and the A's are expected to face all six games against right handed starting pitching uh while they are in home so Carlos Cortez could take advantage of that added playing time he did sit today um against the righty so there's no guarantee um maybe it's just uh that expanded roster situation as they got Denzel Clark back uh earlier in the week um so there's you know an extra outfielder um to get in the mix um as well but uh Carlos Cortez would be somebody uh that you know you could try to take advantage of uh Jeff McNeil if he's available uh got picked up in my homelink he was sitting on the free agent wire uh for the playoff matchup for the next week as well so again not sure on the availability there but he's been on a big old heater uh as of uh and hidden second versus range yeah uh and yeah yeah and then they should be facing off against all those righties so we'll see McNeil
toward the top of the lineup um um against most of those situations um all right well we got some hitters to keep in mind we got some pitchers to talk about and we are going to do that right after this break our cabin we're still scrimping and scraving trying to get ourselves some wins and some strikeouts here as you mentioned like we're at a point where you're probably keeping more hitters on your bench uh with your with your seven bench plus how many hitters how many hitters do you have on your bench through the month of September uh just due to the fact that you know there's a lot more there's a lot more you can do with your roster um you know with the halfway you know changing your lineup halfway through the uh through the week you can't do anything with pitchers um so do you have like six out of seven um hitters on your on your bench uh go um for most of September or
how are you doing your roster maybe not six out of seven but I won't have more than two pitchers on my bench and very mainly it's fifty yeah yeah makes a whole lot of sense I won't charm it all the way down yet especially if I'm looking ahead at matchups there's one starting pitcher that we're about to talk about that uh does it doesn't look great for this week but a nice two step next week so already looking at that a little bit yeah that makes sense um of course there's still some there that's your stash though you just said we're not stashing Kevin and now that's true well whether you're st whether you're bidding on them now for the following week or for this week who are you looking at to add for wins and strikeouts uh for at any point in September I am looking for anybody facing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim um they are at the 70
WRC plus or lower versus righties and lefties uh each of them uh over the past three weeks as a team so any of uh sand-of-all Bennett and Soros for your Red Sox those guys aren't available uh but if they happen to be in your league you're grabbing them uh Cade Calali Alvarez and Dion who we talked about last week and uh more of an opener doesn't really go five innings but we'll be in there for three or four versus the Angels over the weekend looking ahead to next week it's uh their face in Seattle early in the week who does not uh they don't have any uh available pitching uh and then they they Angels go back home for four against Minnesota uh Taj Bradley Bailey over uh Ryan Joe Ryan's about to come back this week and pre-lip any any availability at all uh I'm grabbing any of those
pitchers uh I Quing Matthews has a really nice match-up coming up he gets uh at Sanford System this week we love that anytime that all part uh and then he faces the Giants again in St. Louis Monday which means he has a two-step next week the following week and uh versus Washington was really cooled off after being a really fun offense from much of the season so there's a couple of the guys that I'm looking at but anything with match-ups and what I'm really looking at um I I brought this up before when I checked team stats I used the last three weeks that gets me to between 600 and 700 played appearances for a team then all the numbers make sense to me because I'm looking at about a season for a player but versus Lieutenant Pitchie yes the Angels are far worse than anybody else but Miami Pittsburgh Atlanta Seattle have all been horrible as well
even Detroit okay and then versus versus the Rides I mentioned the Angels near the bottom again but Detroit is far worse than anyone else the last three weeks a 48 WRC plus and 310 played appearances versus Rides uh those Angels striking out 29% over 29% versus Rides uh Arizona down here Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Baltimore so Pittsburgh are coming up on both the Rides and lefties we'll talk about how they've cooled off this season but the any pitcher available against these teams I mentioned with the handiness after on the matter. A name up throughout there you you threw out there really quickly that I'm interested in especially in 12 teamers it's not available in a lot of 15 teamers kind of pre-lip look when he was following in his last outing his first scoreless outing of the of the season came when he was following he is either set to start
or follow again on Monday if Joe Ryan is to come out expecting Joe Ryan to maybe not make it the first four pre-lip could come in as the as the follower to Joe Ryan as the you know not the true opener per se but definitely not somebody I expect to go the full five at least on that Monday star so I like pre-lip a lot especially in your 12 teamers where he could he could end up being the one that gets to two step in some fashion for for Minnesota and then you talk about targeting the angels as the opposing pitcher they get some interesting starting pitching right now obviously that Merr is not available but Grayson of Rodriguez still available in over half of 12 teamers and he's looking like he's finally getting into some kind of groove moving forward and he's got a two step for this coming week as well and then Cucucay looking pretty good he's available pretty
much everywhere 23% roster in the main event 4% in 12 teamers you say Cucucay if you're especially if you're looking for strikeouts that could be away in in that in that one category and then the other name that we missed a took out of the news and notes here was Andrea Palante did return from the I.L. for St. Louis look pretty good in his return yesterday 47% roster in the main event 31% still in the 12 in your 12 teamers but he would be lined up to face to be in San Francisco on Wednesday he may not get the two step the week after but if everything kind of lines up he'll get a two two step in that final week of the regular season against Pittsburgh and Milwaukee so could get just San Francisco San Francisco Pittsburgh and Milwaukee to end the end of season not a bad way to you know spend your last piece of a fab periods this is where I don't point to or we just got to
count how many starts you might get out of somebody how how many starts you might actually end up with throughout between now and the end of the regular season that should determine basically how much money you're willing to spend on them it's like if I think I'm going to use Palante for all four of those starts I don't mind putting him to the top of my bids and spending a little bit more on that because I'm not going to have it to money to spend in the week after the week after that as well so obviously depends on your what you're looking for and how much risk you're willing to take definitely look at those expected starts between not just for this week or for next week but the final week of the season as well all right Kevin we're still going to just try to smooth out those ratios we need the RA and we have to be on our mind we're not just chasing those volume plays especially if we have some kind of any kind of flexibility there who who is who you're willing to
like put some money on to do that for you this week so I talked about this last week a little bit and brought it up this week as well um Gion in Washington probably I we expected two outings this week I think it got pushed back in it and he's scheduled to go one day and next weekend now probably no go five a three or four uh but when what we're hey we need guys within each right uh so that becomes part of the issue here as well I think where I really need him if I'm okay on saves yeah and I have elite closures uh I believe in them in even if I don't need the saves because they will protect my ratios if I'm not chasing wins and strikeouts I'm just leaving them in there uh if
but some of the closures have higher ratios than others and if you're okay and saves uh maybe it's time to get them out and throw a different reliever in there that's going to protect our ratios they aren't going to help them much at this point uh but uh Nathan Lavender for the Metz is the guy we haven't mentioned yet this year uh nice ERA uh with uh Brooks Brailly when I don't know if we've talked about him this season we definitely have in the past uh I have been projected for ERA under two with Whitlander one this week uh where I'm looking um rock Stewart with the Dodgers now um yeah there's all kinds of these guys we talk about them all season and uh I I want to try to get any things probably in most cases I probably still need wins definitely the strikeouts but if I'm working okay then just protecting ratios um I I probably don't have um eight even seven starting
pictures that are that I'd rather have my life yeah uh not truly a ratio guy but just a name I got throughout there because it came up in the PL Discord uh Rick Rams giving him a big shout out uh Eduardo Enrique Enriquez from the Los Angeles Dodgers with multiple fastballs going over a hundred miles per hour and then a breaking ball that goes below 90 uh just like having that kind of attack at your disposal um he is uh kind of jumping up the Dodgers uh uh depth chart in their bullpen coming in a lot more in uh you know sticky situations uh just because he has that uh availability of pitching pitches that he can attack batters with so um yeah uh at Guardo Enriquez if you're in a saves and hold league or if you are just you know looking for somebody that could
you know as long as he gets into enough games could get you both strikeouts and uh ratio help uh for the next week um that is you know a name to keep in mind all right well speaking of saves uh we talked about um uh Tyler Wells filling in for Tampa Bay uh if and when you know as far as long as Brian Baker needs to you know take care of himself and get over whatever illness was uh uh troubling him the other day on Friday uh any other any other situations that you're monitoring that hoping that we can vulture at least vulture a save or two over the course of the rest of the season i didn't say that we were looking at uh last week i believe right um i still have you know fauche in Miami did get their one save this week and and that's who we were meeting towards last
week so definitely uh still looking that direction um with uh peak fair banks out and then we had um what was the other one we talked about last week that we were going to pay attention to Adam keep an eye on for this we've effort in who it was oh man i'm not sure because i don't remember who we talked about last week but i am teaping an eye on hunter gattis in Cleveland uh if uh Kate Smith needs days off and what have you he seems to be the one that is uh kind of moving into that next man him both gattis and smith got wins um in their close games on the double header on friday uh kenley jansson has had some tough luck in Detroit um in both the double header and gain the blown save earlier in the week as well um he's definitely not going to get to that milestone marker that i asked you about the last week um i'm pretty confident in that but i i don't see i don't see the Detroit going in any other direction except for jansson uh the remainder the weekend unless there's
an injury involved um as well but um yet not a lot of uh not a lot of fluctuation here um because it's like the teams that you want to speculate on are just bad the ones that are the they're just not getting opportunities to anybody never mind the guy you think they should be to make sure you didn't miss anything go back and look at it who was dropped in your beaks over the past couple of weeks there may have been some uh teams with uh plenty of saves that are starting to let these guys go yeah that's that's definitely we're definitely at that point if they didn't do it last week there's gonna be somebody in your league that drops a closer this week um and so yeah you can always hopefully luck your luck your way into a saver to um in those situations especially if you have somebody in the same mindset as kevin where you're not not gonna hold a bunch of pictures that you're not gonna end up using uh throughout the course of the rest of the season it's just smart team management at this point so like don't hold on to guys that you know are gonna be on your bench
unless you're you know everything is going right for you and you're literally just trying to be you know you're just trying to hoard it so that there are nobody in your team can nobody in your league can get advantage of it and then yeah that that can happen but there are plenty of people who just like that's fine I can't I can't do it I'm gonna send them out there and nobody can use them for a week because I'm gonna drop them and you can't pick up the next Sunday um and so there's always gonna be something that's a great point for people to remember too if you're hesitant their opponent can't pick them up and use them for three weeks only for two mm-hmm yeah so maybe there's maybe at most if you if you drop somebody like an ace closer like a hitter or something like that maybe there's four saves uh that are gonna be sitting out there for somebody to take advantage of not six um yeah but uh you know do whatever you can to define the vulture your way into those into those situations I'm scanning through all these bullpen's kevin and nothing is ring you know the one that's the most uh frustrating to me is just
in Martinez uh yes rebel will not put him in a save situation uh he doesn't even have a whole that's that's the one I was thinking of so we talked about last week that didn't work out yeah it is uh Juan Morello is getting all the saves you know what what saves there are uh brain Garcia is still in there Louisa and Martinez is just sitting there coming in on in games where they're either down by three or you know or or blowing up blowing up the the scoreboard he's not getting those high leverage situations and I get it they're just handling with kids loves and they probably will the rest of the season but I do like Justin Martinez for next year for sure um all right well kevin um there's what little wild card ideas you might have left um this is your opportunity to pull those out of your back pocket um what possible wild card could you have for us
this week well I I think Montez would qualify but we already talked about him because in spite of I think if you want him on your roster I think you do need to go and get him this week probably shouldn't use him until next weekend so that you're you're uh like the following week's week is so you're really only picking him up for a week and a half right the final week and a half this season but in color rattle um I haven't really been a big fan of uh a Dale omitler uh and he's back up with the expanded roster and he's played every day and he is going it does appear that he is going to play every day uh to finish out the season here um he's he's always you know had low strikeout rates nice walk rates but just couldn't hit the ball with any authority at all
what I have noticed and this this may not be a thing yet it's as a small sample size but he's shortened his swing considerably over uh what it had been the previous two stints in the major in in the majors that's typically going to slow your swing down quite a bit but it's still just barely below average with that um massive shortening of the swing and that he's not going to hit 381 but that may be why he's hitting 381 in eight games so far in this stint he may get on base and then uh score some runs he'll some bases don't expect much power uh he does have a leaven this year uh in the minors but um um we know the ballpark especially in the color rattle system out there but a couple uh with the Rockies in only eight games he's already got two so yeah amateur is appealing to me uh and he never has been in the past and he wouldn't be if I hadn't
noticed there could be an explanation and it could be him that could be intentionally shortened into swing yeah I mean ultimately when you notice that actual change that is leading to the results that you're seeing you stop having to ask the questions and you're able to take advantage in having the ten straight games at home and maybe wrong but you have a reason all right well perfect uh definitely a wild card to keep an eye on especially with that ten game homestand uh they should uh color the Rockies should be taking advantage of and you can take advantage of it too hopefully um well with all that Kevin uh you know there's only you only three more fab periods left so that means you've only got two more three more chances to give some last second advice to everybody uh what he got forced this week I think I think we had a good example of of it in this episode as we were
looking uh at schedules ballpark's pictures handedness uh the specific picture who they actually are and their matchups uh because it might make her uh has an article out for FGN over the final month of the season so it was out in four last week it was out last weekend but uh it he talked about knowing you know the I'm paraphrasing here and forget how he worded it but yes these these fantasy stats we get the last three weeks don't count any more than those we got in May but they are more significant because we know exactly what we need so really dive into the schedules maybe we'll be looking at at least two weeks ahead if not all three uh problem the bloomed did that that they went through the the rest of the season schedule for every team is what they did
on their early week episode this week I take a look at entire schedules at least the next two weeks and then like we mentioned pretty early start prepping your teams for you when you start trimming down that the number of pictures on our bench if we don't have an absolute specific spot where we know we're going to use them I don't go but it's time to just every move you make is for right now and so don't don't forget that that's an easy thing to forget we all know it but it's easy to forget and say oh you know we might be getting him back in the in ten days well there's only eight days left in the season at that point yeah exactly um yeah this is why Nick changes his list article uh absolutely remember to adjust hey this is everybody start this is everybody's schedule for the rest of the year that's all you should care oh and who's got to doing that um looking pretty far ahead throughout the
season for us now but yeah it used to be we can give us that in the off season you'd start talking about the early season matchups and then like you said for September it does a little more throughout the season now where he's looking ahead a little more but yeah absolutely it's to definitely take a look at uh the list yeah because the list doesn't get this doesn't matter it's all this doesn't matter at this point it doesn't matter if you're gonna face all of your games in in west Sacramento Colorado and since then atty right it doesn't matter uh you just care about who you're playing and how much you've taken advantage of it so hopefully you got enough out of this episode to take advantage of plenty in the final uh a few weeks of the season and good luck to everybody out there but that is going to wrap it up for episode two sixty six on the wire so all that i am out of town on behalf of Kevin he's thanks for listening and we bid you
