And we got a couple of black stripes that came off. We got a black stripe alert, you know, all that So we're gonna talk about that. But anyway, remember When you send those wonderful super jets help us to go towards the pay it forward Which is our military and our first responders? We're gonna look out for them because they always look out for us Nevada What's up, man? We're having a little too much fun backstage We were having a lot of fun and But guys have some I have a big practice today, but we have eyes everywhere, man. We have eyes at All over the facility and had great report today on the message board Yeah, if you're not a member of the message board, man, you're really missing out because we're having a lot of fun on the message board If you ever wonder where we are the other 23 hours a day, it's at blackiscoup.com on our premium message board Have a lot of fun there too, but yeah, so great practice stuff going on today for sure Yep, got the nuggets and the information coming out our ears. I mean, it's just I mean boom boom boom You know, it's it's great and it's fun
Especially right now. We're gonna blink and spring will be over But we'll still be locked and loaded through the summer. It doesn't matter But it's been an exciting spring. So before we get to the um the practice stuff. Let's go ahead and Tell you about these black stripes So let's go to the first one and Introduce The All right John Walker For UCF we've brought him up, you know, not too long ago people were asking about him. What's going on with him He's been doing fine again Just to remind people the black stripes
There It to me, it's not black and white To the point where if you haven't got your black stripe remove yet your trash or if you got your black stripe remove Already your starting it doesn't work like that. So Guys are working guys are grinding each position coach has a significant say and who gets their black stripe removed There's certain things they want to see different players do even if they feel like hey this guy is is really good right now But I want to see him take another step. They can withhold that black stripe removal as motivation So just want to lay that out there again But John Walker Nevada got his black stripe removed from UCF We've been hearing things about him doing well Looking to be a significant depth piece And that too deep for the defensive line. So I wish Also John Walker getting his black stripe removed You know not not surprised because as you said, you know, we've had numerous reports You know when I when I get reports from multiple different people and we start cross reference
And I mean you start hearing the same names over and over again You know that those guys were starting to make a move and and John Walker certainly a guy Kind of a funny story how he Obviously Was close to committing here and they got homesick and went to UCF and now he's back at Ohio State where he kind of wanted to be and when he came in Kind of started the same thing started a little slow But man as as practice picked up he's really made his presence felt on the D line to the point now where they feel like he's going to be Absolutely a solid contributor another portal hit for their Ohio States, you know staff and pantony and evaluation group Which is you know Their hit rate so far on To 2026 kids is extremely high and John Walker another piece of that a guy who's gonna like not just play but play valuable minutes for us and really be a difference better on the D long Yeah, yeah man. He's he's coming and you know some of these kids They have to get acclimated to not just a new program, but Ohio freaking state
I mean he was a good player at UCF. That's why they took him But it's a Ohio State and we'll get more into what I'm about to say later But there was some more interviews today some safeties were interview The safeties room and the DB's room was a interview and there was some quotes man There was some quotes and it's just a more confirmation about the step up at Ohio State and so you know I've never doubted like when we got John Walker looking at his production and This hearing everything from the people who liked him. I figured he would be in the too deep contributing Right like you know I had no doubt about that But now again, it's starting to solidify like okay. He's coming. He's stepping up and so I'm excited about it because the more every data goes by Nevada Every room is sort of shaping out and kind of solidifying But specifically with this defensive line You got guys that will swap Will Smith Jr. Excuse me now John Walker
I mean, it's just you're seeing the depth starting pop up Nevada Hold on I think I am I am back. There you go. Boom got you. I am back Yeah, I was in the net. I was in the uh the the the nether regions the other world or whatever The place get whatever that place goes that people on stream yard go to that's where I was Uh Yeah, the depths of the nether world Got you out, but did you hear? They know what I would say come through I heard you talking about the the comments made for the safety group today and comments on how things are different and I think I know where you're going with that And uh in terms of some of the comments about the the competitiveness here at Ohio State relative to other schools and things like that Did was there something else that you want to me to address on that or or um Yeah, I just said I was going to kind of touch on that more later But the competitive quote the actual quotes from the safeties, but I was more so getting that um
How John Walker you know like had to he had to get acclimated from UCF to Ohio State That's a step up in itself And then you know of course just the the level of competition here when I say Ohio State I mean like the program the city the the experience. I mean Gore from UCF to Columbus, Ohio You know as far as the actual meaning of football here Because UCF is in Orlando, right? So I know Orlando's not a small city. I believe it's in Orlando, but I'm saying the the um You know obsession with football here in understanding this is a top tier program where it's football football and UCF It's kind of overlooked for Mickey Mouse It's just different and then now of course the competition level So he had to come along and get his legs under him It was kind of what's my point But now we're starting to see more and more as the reports been coming in he's uh he's been shifting gears So that's basically where I was coming from and I was asking you to to respond to that
Well, yeah, no, I mean it is it's I think you know we we talk about this all the time I mean these aren't robots, you know, these are young men that are coming and moving from Central Florida to Columbus, Ohio They may not they may know a couple of people. They may not know anyone. They may be getting different classes I mean everything's different for them And so the idea that they can just come in and and operate at the high school because let's face it Ohio State football is the highest level of college football and UCF or frankly anywhere else is not the highest level So for anybody it's going to be a step up for a kid like John Walker who we already know he's a little bit of a homebody You know, we know that was part of the recruitment So I think um the fact that we were hearing such good things I mean he's in a men's town and he's the type of guy He's one of those wide-body guys that can hold the point of attack You know on the defense line those are the type of guys that we really need those the guys that we covet Those the guys that we frankly don't have enough of so the fact that he's coming on and and playing as well as he is Is just uh is great news for the buccas for the season and and I'm excited about him
I Absolutely, I agree So let's get to this next young man. Let me share my screen It's another black striped alert. How does cj cj must he he has to drink light He just has to have like hot tea on deck For all the screaming he does hold on We got another black trouble He's got stuff is now he has a constant motor He blackest stuff and his own dirty work Those are the right tight hands Last I think I'll take my family take the brother with the premium you shop to go stay coach Key and this is what catch the rest of the coaching staff were all bringing me in you shop to coach making this staff Remaking me great go box Right Williams Nevada I kind of when I seen his name pop up He kind of slipped my mind. I was like oh, yeah Mason Williams He's just not a guy that was on the top of my mind But yeah, he lost his black stripe and he thoughts on him and this tight enrollment in general
Well, you know, I It's hard not to look at Mason Williams and not think will cast Merrick, you know, I'm saying in terms of similar pass Still, Ohio State, you know similar kind of trajectory Summer skill set. So it's going to be interesting to see how they use him heard good things about him I've heard about good things to the other guy 200 well-ching. So I think for Ohio State it's just you know for an offense that likes to use the tight end You can't have enough good quality tight ends and that doesn't mean you need three or four of them the field at one time But you know to have more than more than one that can play Certainly, you know, good sign the fact he's losing his black stripe right away They know that he can play veteran guy tough guy really good and run blocking Not as much of a passing receiving threat, but I'm not sure we need him to be that So I'm excited about him and I was excited for him that he got his black stripe after that certainly a nice step for a minute's projector here Yeah, I agree and I think this tight-end room
They didn't do anything wrong per se I mean they were just The 1314 personnel stuff just didn't work And so again, I kind of want to see I'm looking forward to seeing Nate Roberts actually played tight end this year like Mainly instead of fullback and I'm looking forward to seeing Arthur Smith and how he I really uses them in our 12 personnel packages and And all that blocking and then and then leaking them out to catch balls and I'm just I can't wait to see that Because I do think this tight-end room has some tough physical dudes in it and then some guys like Nate Roberts who who can catch So I'm just curious to see how we handle this room man for Arthur Smith kind of excited because again When Nate Roberts last year I just I know he was a stud tight-end But he was just playing a lot of back in in a that didn't always really work and I don't know I just need I need to wipe the slate clean with Nate Roberts and the tight-end room
Going into this season and I think we're going to see that so do you feel similarly Nevada? I know Claire was good last year But I just feel like there's another level of usage with our tight-ends Nevada I mean Claire was good But he wasn't anywhere near as good as I thought he would be or he thought he could be or frankly as well as the NFL's like Adam that should have been so To me and again, I don't want to turn this this pilot into the hate on Brian Hartlein pie But I you know I can't help but I we've never seen this 14 personnel for tight-ends tight-ended every position thing before Until Hartlein took over the OC thing and it was like I don't know what we were doing. I'm not sure what that was about I thought we had some guys that could play. I thought we would take advantage of Max Clair's unique Instead of skills and and we didn't but I'm I mean art Smith is a tight-end whisper He knows how to use the tight-end and use the tight-end properly
So I'm I'm interested to see if last year was an aberration or is this some sort of Ryan Day thing or whatever it is But I think we'll get a real good fair test of tight-end utilization with Arthur Smith because he's a guy who knows how to use it Has used it successfully and in the NFL and I think he'll bring the same things to college agreed Definitely agree. So listen, let's get into this this nugget man About spring practice and the first thing I know people will love. I know I love talking about Julian running around all day Now listen everybody to cats out the bag the old line is a little dinged up. There's some guys out And so that's causing Julian to have to take off and run a little more But he the the nugget says he looked good doing it And so I've been tempted Nevada. I just don't be having a much time sometimes But I wanted to put together some clips of Julian saying running throughout the season because he actually did run at times
And I think people just forget and I wanted to put like a little clip together to show people that he actually is capable You know, but the emphasis There's been no holdback from coach day and the staff about Julian saying stepping up I mean, even the other day Ryan Day said he needs to be more physical in the pocket meaning taking off what he needs to he keeps saying he needs to run to me The deck is stacked for the people who think all is just talk. I think the worm has turned about it I'm really convinced that that Julian saying It's going to make an intentional effort to take off and run when it makes sense hear me fans When it makes sense Not every down. He's not going to be well-hower. He's not going to be braxton But I think he will take off and pick up that easy money five to seven yards and pick up a person down If everybody's not open now field So I'm excited about that right off the rip Nevada Well, look we we know one that he's capable of running or some guys are incapable of running they just they're slow
They've got two left feet whatever it is. We know that's not the case We can you can go back or watch his high school tape and you know, he's not incapable of running. There's one two We know he's not a dumb person. So we know if he's being told to run He will run and yeah, there's nobody's ever met Julian saying is like oh he's he's just he's thick He's thick as a brick. He doesn't understand like he's a very very smart dude very very sharp guy So if you really is being coached to run Because we know that he has the ability and we know he has the intellect then he'll run now if he doesn't Then it's something else because you know my sneaking suspicion has been Um then and I just think his vision. I've heard this from the people directly from the people involved that Ryan Day has coached the run out of these guys and he just does not like the Roman quarterback now Maybe to your point maybe the warmest term with Ryan maybe Ryan has had an epiphany. We all I always say The smartest people be that I've ever met in my life
And one of them was my brother my brother was undoubtedly one of the smartest Highest processing people that you would have ever have met in your whole life He used to always say to me. I always reserve the right to change my mind And I just found that to be such a profound Statement because I think that's what smart people do the smart people like look if you if you make a can You know convincing argument you you compel me to come over your side. I'll change by mine I'm won't you know, I'm not so intractable that I'm just gonna or so dog back and I'm not gonna listen to the other side You know, I'll listen to the side. I may not come across, but I'm willing to do that and I think Ryan Day clearly and he's a genius this face and he they who's a major college coach national championship Coach winner offensive court. I mean the guy is a genius He's got to figure out what's so evident to all of us that they're running We lost the game if you said singularly you have to pick a reason why we lost a Miami in the playoff game And you said it's only gonna be one you can only pick one I say Carson Bex running. I say Carson Bex running. I mean more so than miss field goals pick six is the offensive line
The color of the uniforms It was Carson Bex running that it just broke her back consistently You know, I'm saying and it wasn't his passing. He didn't have a great passing game But it was his running So Ryan's got to see that and go Man, we got to do more of that. I mean, he's got to know that he won the national championship You know, I'm not saying because we'll how around the ball, but in big moments You know what they called they called a willower run You know, I mean and could be power Yeah, so I I like to think that's where we're going and I and I truly believe that you're right But I understand people being skeptical hippo about it and wanted to see it in the fall Yeah, I think the Carson Bex thing was a revelation. I think that was the And I'm just speculating But Ryan Day and Julian saying seeing Carson Bex a guy who fits the description that you just gave a few moments ago Nevada to let feet
Nobody thought Beck was a threat to run his whole career people laughed at him being a statue from Georgia to Miami And then he pulls that out To me that was just like oh yeah, we have to by we we have things have to change I really believe that was it because Nevada even after we threw the pick six We came roaring back and we were in position to still win that gang And Carson Bex legs Shut that down for the most part it was his legs So yeah, it's just the truth and listen I'll I will gladly have ego my face If this season Julian saying this sits back there patting the ball and doesn't take off and get sacked on third and two I will gladly say I was wrong. I just don't think that's going to happen Like you said he's smart coach day a smart Arthur Smith is smart They know what needs to be done and they're going to do it and so I was very happy to see that once again keep it coming
And then of course Devin McEwen look sharp today and was open catching everything thrown his way again Another guy who can just go out there and make plays he's fast. He's reliable I mean being able to get him and Kyle Parker in here From the portal with their reliability their consistency their reps and they both have speed And they're not like the other receivers we already have in the roster to me was just a blessing Just a blessing and that's why I think this room is as deep as any room we've had in the last 15-20 years as far as top the bottom of guys who can actually contribute now not coming later But now so McEwen Definitely glad to see that and I'll partner him with Nate Roberts looking good. I just mentioned him But I definitely want to see Nate Roberts again because to me he's the number one passing You know Receiving tight in that we that we have he had he has the highest skill set with that You know the Bennett Christians and those guys can catch a ball
But I don't think anybody would say they're the most dynamic pass catching tight ends I look at Bennett Christian and other guys like that as more I know well syncing catch. I know he can catch. I saw him at Northwestern But Nate Roberts was a stud coming out of high school So anyway here and these two guys in this nugget is definitely good as well in the bottom Well McEwen and you think about you know look every position in the portal is kind of coveted by teams But probably none more so than wide receivers, you know because everybody needs why everybody needs wide receivers You know and and you can never have enough of them every team needs them And you know the fact that Ohio State went out and got McEwen from ETSA and got Parker from LSU I mean they did some work You know this this was good but McEwen having a good day is really really good news because You know you need that depth you just can't have enough guys that are out there You know it felt like a little bit last year despite all the high rankings of the kids that we have that were down there You know the kids that were once we got past the first three
Was really anybody that you were planning to see more of you know, I mean not for me. I wanted them to be good I was rooting for them to be good. I thought they could be good But then they'd get in and then they wouldn't do anything and you're like yeah, well, that's not that's not great So no, I'm I'm excited about what McEwen brings and again It's different than what we have on the roster as you said and that's a really insightful point I think he can I think he can fill that specifically specifically Speed we're gonna look faster at why receiver this year We're gonna look more like an SEC team from a speed standpoint Then we ever have before we're not gonna look like a big plotting team from the Midwest for the guys that block really well On the sweeps, you know, we're gonna have speed out there and I think we're gonna use that speed to burn Yep, and that's why I asked you what I asked you yesterday about your opinion on author Smith and And how we use our receivers because I know he wants to pound pound pound play action over the top Which is cool? That's that's tried and true
Especially when you have a Jeremiah Smith and and on that but um man, we got some guys That we can run some crosses with that we could uh, you know Every now and then go for a wide and spray it up So we'll see we'll see uh, but yes very very happy about that And then Jacobi Jackson Shout out to the homie dev also dev will have Duke Petty John on the show tonight. I see you in the chat Dev will be going after us Duke will be on the show make sure you're check it out Now giving credit to dev for kind of tapping me on the shoulder Early on about Jacobi Jackson and what his people were hearing and then of course and about us people telling him similar things About you know, hey, this guy is better than we thought he was injured Um, you know, he can really contribute So um and I like his attitude just in the interviews and stuff like that So he got a shout out in the nugget as far as um looking like a steal at running back So again since he's gotten here it's been like
Rumblings and hey watch out for him look out for him and then I saw him in practice looking I mean jacked and uh fast and he has some good runs So we might have is I mean you talk about depth Nevada Obviously Bo Jackson Isaiah West are the the guys we know that are talented But this guy can come in on third down this guy can come in and and pass pro I mean, and just we just it just seems like we just are deeper and and a lot more positions with these experienced guys and that is exciting Nevada Well, and and I I always look at things relative to last year and you know last year you look at our running back room Um, and it was Bo Jackson Isaiah West is tighter again in CJ Donaldson, you know what I'm saying and then you you look at the running back room this year And you're like okay returning Bo Jackson returning the Isaiah West So Kobe Jackson is better. He's better. He's a better version of CJ Donaldson runs better
Um can get short yardage better past production better past receiver and then you've got you know You know turbo roiders and you got legend baked that are the wild cards, you know what I'm saying? So I I like the running back room I certainly believe the running back room is going to be an upgrade position in 2020 Sexual to 2025 and heck we were we were close to winning the national championship in 2020 It's not like we were galaxies away from it. So I I like it But um I agree that I think Jacobi Jackson when all said and done I think he's I think he's going to be the number two I mean I I like him is once I like Isaiah West and maybe just because Recently a factor not being there, but Jacobi Jackson's real player. I mean, he's a real football player He's not a stiff. He doesn't run upright like Donaldson did and don't I'm not crap And I don't know. So Donaldson gave us his best and nice kid and really charter But I Jacobi Jackson's a better version of that for sure Yeah, I don't think you're uh What you said is wild. I mean Isaiah West is good to be but he still needs to prove it
Like Isaiah West has not arrived. He showed some flashes. Okay. He's got good vision. He's tough to tackle He's slippery But he ain't solidified nothing and so he's going to have to fight Jackson off Um for sure, so I don't think you're crazy at all for saying that especially Unfortunately for Isaiah West. He's injured right now in Jackson is cooking and taking reps So we'll see um now get into the defense My guy McLean who I've been banging a drum for telling telling folks he's been underrated and not appreciated and I talked about enough I've been saying that but now that drum beat is banging louder thankfully Um talking about he has the uh the safety spot on lockdown flying all over the place Um and the DB's the DB room today saying his praises as well. I'm gonna get into that in a moment Peyton Pierce making folks understand why Patricia played him so much last year really good today Um so it's good to hear because again, I've said Pierce was solid last year But I didn't see anything last year to say man
He's gonna you know like he's definitely the next first rounder Eh I want to see more and I think we will see more and the and the stuff we're Keep seeing and hearing is is is going in that direction. So I'm excited about that and then more j tenman's praise Talking about he doesn't get enough height And then Devon Sanchez better than ever Devon Sanchez was uh interviewed today as well That we'll get into that in a moment that'll be a good segue But these defensive guys man. I'm loving what I'm hearing from this defense especially guys that we need to step up and play Nevada Well, yeah, no, it's it's it's a talented one. I mean obviously we've got a lot of holes. We got big shoes to fill Um, but let me let me start on one. We got timmins is really good I mean timmins is really good. He was a guy that we kind of got late in the recruiting process You know the flip from Florida state and Everybody just that I've talked to just as timmins is the real deal like he is the absolute truth
Back there and you know, his dad was a 12 year NFL player or they say he's got you know a great NFL pedigree you know I just think he was A lot of reading services had him obviously in the top five and in in in terms of a defensive backs and I just think He's going to be terrific for our state and the people I talked to you think he's can't there can't miss type of player Obviously Devon Sanchez another guy that of all the they had him planning its Texas last year That I'm playing the first game against Texas in in in real time against real guys So um the fact that he's taking another step up yet not surprising same thing say with the Peyton Pierce and jailing the claim I'm jail McLean's just a really good football player man I'm jail McLean drove my car for out of here. You know what I'm saying he's a baller man and uh So I mean Jalen's just I mean he's been outstanding Um it took the spot really ascended into a leadership role now um had a pick today
So um now I think he's uh I think he's going to be terrific and certainly one of the the vocal leaders for the 2026 Yeah, I'm excited so Devon Sanchez In his interview today he was basically being very transparent He talked about how he was a little nervous and timid last year as a freshman. He was a freshman y'all Um, so he was saying his confidence, you know like Knowing his assignments and processing quicker He was saying that he struggled with that now. He did say the way he played against Miami because his confidence was higher And he was saying if he would have had that confidence uh the year the whole year that it would have been a different year But listen He was a true freshman did he get beat sometimes he absolutely got beat sometimes But he was out there over Aaron Scott and Bryce West who are gone now I mean the coaching staff thought highly of him enough to put him out there And I think those reps were valuable because now He has confidence more confidence and he's starting to step up and show it and he has all those reps under his belt
And now with his skill set his size that this things you can't teach Are going to be on display and so it was really good to hear from him um today and um just the DBs in general and then real quick because I want to show a clip of uh Of Earl Little Junior With Jay Timmons going back to that Tim Walton when the media asked him about what uh JJ Smith said about him being a special player Tim Walton who sometimes listen, I'm interview guy So I know what these guys say. I know their style. I studied them. I know. I'm a nerd. I'm crazy, right But they're not Tim Walton is not going to be so quick to just say a guy is special and he repeated it He said yeah, he's going to be special. He agreed with JJ Smith He didn't say well, let's point the breaks and he got to keep I mean he obviously he needs to keep working But Nevada is right Jay Timmons He's he's like that as the kids would say Okay, so we really it's just really really dope to see all these these kids start to merge and pop and bite his pups and
and all this stuff, but um i I want to show this clip of Earl Little Junior and then um Yeah, let's just start with that because my mind is all over the places the other stuff I wanted to touch on But I want you to hear this clip because there's a common theme in Nevada That we're hearing from guys that are transferring here from other programs And I'm going to bring this up here. We go That's definitely a separate I don't mean competition day in and day out like literally like we're competing in a weight room No, we're different, you know Different exercises like I never been a part of something like that competing in a weight room, right? So she's with the level of competition and day in and day out It's second to nine and and that's definitely a separate effect All right, so again, this is Earl Little Junior He started off at Alabama He transferred to Florida State Okay James Smith came from Alabama These are these are top programs, you know, this is not Wyoming and Tulane
These are big-boy programs and these kids not just these two But I hear this from all of them that it's just another level Another level here of competition like do y'all hear that because I think sometimes it's fans We kind of take for granted and we kind of peer into other programs. We just assume stuff Like nah, we don't do it's like we we do this And so there's a reason why We produce the guys we produce and we develop how we develop and why the NFL GMs are just just oh my god Hittin mini-rippers in high notes every freaking pro day when they see our athletes and when they get our athletes in their program And so Ryan Day He was interviewed by Hayward uh Hayward Cam Hayward Recently and I listen to the podcast. It's a great listen by the way He was and I'm paraphrasing but he was basically saying like we we specialize
And developing the elite athlete and I thought that was profound like that's what stands out about us Because every time you can get a five stars, but We because some people try to just excuse away. Oh, well how is this just good because they get already five stars The five stars and the elite talents and the athletes have to be developed on and off the field Like that's why you have the Caleb Downs is in the in the the sunny styles and JSN and you know what his Super Bowl media talking about a house state And how much they love Ryan Day in this program Is because it's special here and so anyway, I wanted to point that out Nevada because Alabama and Florida State are really really good programs and These boys is talking like it's another level here like whoa. I've never had competition in the weight room like this Huh, and my mind. I'm thinking like everybody does that, but Mickey Mirade is a different cat though. Anyway, go ahead Nevada Look, it's it's a pointed differentiation for a house state. I mean Ohio State
You know, I think a lot of people just like to wear the wand and say you can develop anywhere Everybody develops the same rate all the big you can go anywhere and be you'll get noticed You'll be seen the scouts will find you Your path will you'll you'll make it the NFL whether you're at UCF or Indiana Or Washington or UCLA or house there's no difference and what he's giving testimony the fact is there is a difference There's a big difference and so for a house state You know, they're leaning into that and you know, it's a big it's the big tip of the spear was farther recruiting pitch They're saying look we are different. This is a different place. You get a different level of development You get a different level of competition You'll you'll have a different level of game ready. And that's why a guy like JJ Smith can turn down 10 million dollars For Miami and the honestly the return to Ohio State and you know, that really did happen I'm we were telling you guys at the time and JJ got five million from Ohio State to come back
He got five million Which is a lot of money But it's 50% of what he got a guy somewhere else Um, it meant no part of that's because JJ Smith's a different kind of cat He's loyal that didn't you know check off all the reasons but you know Part of it's because his development he knows that the development he's getting For the long term plan of JJ Smith Is best executed at Ohio State and so it's fun. Listen to those guys give testimony about it Because I absolutely believe it to be true, but hearing it from their lips is uh, it certainly is certainly validating That was such an excellent segue sir Such an excellent segue I made this mean Okay, y'all know the famous Drake meme This is JJ Smith Saying no no no no to the you know the enticement of the cash from Miami To stay and get a ring here development all that stuff So great segue. I want to read some quotes. JJ Smith
was interviewed recently And he was asked about other schools and you know like how much money They were offering him and he said quote over 10 million dollars easy Smith said But that's not how I operate So here's some quotes buckeye nation that you're going to love from JJ Smith So he was asked about you know, hey, Miami was one of several schools that reached out to Smith's agent after he helped Lead Ohio State to a national championship 2024 JJ Smith's quote he said No reason to go back home not when I'm at the best place in the country Smith said preach I came to Ohio State for a reason to win championships Develop as a player and a person and keep building on this legacy I might have grown up in South Florida, but I'm a buckeye That's not changing. I wasn't going anywhere. I freaking love it. How can you not love this kid? There's more but Nevada that quote right there is fire
Like I mean To me that I just love it. I absolutely love it because He's also facing a hometown pressure. You got freaking Luke Campbell Going on podcast calling him out and the locals trying to shame him That was firing Nevada I mean, JJ's he's a one-of-a-kind man. He's a one-of-one Never seen anything quite like him before. I'm not sure we'll ever see anything quite like him after he leaves But yeah, now he's he's certainly wild you wired differently and you know, it's it's funny You hear him say I'm here to win championships. You think oh, yeah, you got to win championships. Oh, you already won a championship The championship was freshman year. So it's not like you know, he hasn't left any stone on a cop He's beaten Michigan Michigan. He's won a national championship You know, I mean like the guy's done it all and Yeah, I mean, I know people get jaded by culture both sometimes with all the changes But JJ's a throwback man. He's a throwback to different time and
Yeah, I I love that kid and that's probably one of the reasons why I'm so excited about this 2026 season He's just to see that version of JJ spent a third year playing it something we would never see and like college basketball Because somebody this good wouldn't be playing three years of college basketball But we get to see him for in his third year with Julian saying throwing time So I mean we're in for a treat And again Nevada you you're sowing the money once again with the Segways bro It's like you're in my head. Here's the next quote JJ Smith after asked about losing uh losing a Miami He said just because they beat us and things went their way. I wasn't going back home Smith said I mean you hear the numbers and everything but to be honest I didn't it didn't make sense for me to go back. I have a good quarterback here I have a good group of teammates here a lot of people came back. So it would look stupid For me to go there and we have a team here. That's already built Wow the logic duh
Yes Yes people and Nevada is so funny because again after that game You had podcasters and and idiots on twitter and you know pushing the rumor that he's going back to Miami Just like man, please stop it. This kid ain't going nowhere He's not only is he uber talented on the field. He's super smart. He's intelligent He has the right people around him. I mean I just love this kid Nevada Yeah, I know JJJ, you know, I mean Yeah, some He's special and I just think I think it's so great for Chris Henry Jr That he gets to come in and operate and see how how a guy who's a pro's pro handles his business I think he's a great inspiration to not only the other wide receivers, but everybody on the team We've talked about the fact that he's a three-time ironbuck guy Which is just impossibly hard and I he's a throwback So I always say when your best player is your hardest working guys, then that's definitely something special Well, we have that on this team and that's why one of another reason why I think 2026 is gonna be such a special season
I agree and one last thing. I'm going to read one last quote This is from Ryan Day and then we're going to get to super chats But I'm reading this because and I shot up to my my guy Mike Patterson We were chatting earlier. We were both watching the watch the interview with if it's not posted on scoop I'll post it with Hayward cam Hayward interview them. It was a really good interview And it was some quotes in there and if we just got to talking about Man like we're so blessed to have Ryan Day as our head coach It was one of those reminders hearing him talk Nevada. It's just like man like Man, I hope he stays for for for much longer, but Here's the quote in this same Jeremiah Smith article He says he thinks big talking about Jay j smith he understands what this place is and what comes with it They said his family is great and I think there's a lot of trust there from when he was recruited to where we are now Everything we said we were going to do we did that's important when you're dealing with people who value relationships
It's just if it's just about money then when more money comes in guess what's going to happen They're going to walk out the door and he ends with this he says Jeremiah Jeremiah's family values relationships and they knew it wasn't just about him on the field There's a lot that comes with being an elite athlete And I really feel strongly that we major in developing the elite athlete at Ohio State not just on the field That's bars That's a great recruiting pitch. It's the truth the track record backs it up Jeremiah Smith is the figurehead of that and I just love it. I thought it was just excellent Nevada Well, yeah, when you see all these former NFL. Yeah, I mean, obviously his family. You've got the Geno Smith connection With Caleb Downes, you know, his dad and his brother I've already talked about him I mean you can just go down the list of all this but and they're entrusting their kids to Ryan Day and the Ohio State development plan It's you know, it's quite a ringing endorsement about what we're doing And I think it's the absolute smart way to play it I think it's the only way to play it in the NIL era is to focus on development
Different you say yourself in terms of what you can do for the elite athlete And also try to extricate yourself from these these bidding battles because at the end of the day Ryan put it best if a kid's about money then it's always going to be about money There's somebody else is going for more money and you've got to change the game and I think Ohio State's doing that Yep, and some are going to get it and some aren't some recruits that we really want it walked away because of the upfront money And I wish them the best but I just I just don't know if that was the better long-term move But it is what it is All right, let's get to these super chats Now hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on You didn't even read the best part of the nugget like the best part of the nugget oh And the new kicker Hawkins is what 100% Come on man come on Oh kickers still don't get respect due to
But here I was here and the other day I was just waxing poetic about how happy I was about Hawkins But yeah, sorry Hawkins, but yes, we love you. We need you okay We need you to come in here and remove the bad taste out of our mouths Of missing shanking 20-yard field goals against our rival Thank you Hawkins for coming to Ohio State all Hawkins has got to do is just come here and never miss a field goal That's what he's got to do right That's it That's what you're doing come on that sounds doable to doable to me and no no extra points either You can't miss any extra points and don't ever kick it. Don't do a kick off out of bounds. Don't ever do a kick off out of all man Yeah, I mean those three just do those three things and I'm happy Listen for real for real all jokes aside no kicker should ever kick it out of bounds like like Back back back Yes, like terrible and you get your head ripped off on the sideline afterwards like what are you doing idiot?
That was me and I'm sorry, but yes Hawkins forgive me That was the carry on top of the nugget. I completely just sailed right past it So forgive me Hawkins all right stilly mat Stars align is on a diet. Don't talk about sweets That's that's chat related, Charles. I got a dive into the chat There's a whole it's all we could do three or four other podcasts on the topics in the chat Alone and and a lot of it has to do with food and movies which I'm all I'm here for Nevada Well, I got a question for stars line Like Like are people using like the pills and the injections and stuff like that because I've talked to a lot of people that have done that That swear by it that that really think that they're like this pill Change my life is taking away my cravings and and I know I saw an article the other day, which I found fascinating They talked about how So many people are using these pills and stuff that
demand for potatoes in the United States is plummeted and so they're having like Millions of pounds of potatoes not being here and restaurants are having a downsizer They're portions because large portion sizes are just overwhelming for people now. They don't don't want the big portions anymore Because um, they're not as hungry and I thought that was a very interesting thing So I was wondering if uh because dieting's hard man dieting's hard and if these pills can be or these injections can reduce the cravings Then maybe that's it that's I'm not saying it's a cheat code. I understand It's put something into your body, but people I have a lot of success with it Yeah, that's interesting me and my wife are talking about it the other day You know the drugs like ozampic and I think is it will go v and You know drugs like that the one thing that I I did here is that if you don't consistently take it I mean you can blow right back up. I don't know how true that is So I mean, I guess that's kind of a downside for some reason if you can't keep getting your medication Then I can really make things squirrely
But yeah, I have heard people who swear by it and and really um Have a remarkable quick turnaround of losing weight with that with those drugs. So Good question. Maybe somebody will respond in the chat or not So um, let me see All right, uh Brian Thanks for the one and nine. How well do you think darling hated? I think you mean to say what he doing Memphis Um, I don't know. I don't know Memphis is system like that. I mean Well, he went to Colorado. I kind of wrote my eyes a little bit um I just I've never was sold on him like doing well at Colorado. I think he should have stayed, but And and kind of fought for a job, but that's just me Nevada and he's also down on Hayden and Memphis Um, I mean like Darling is sweet. Darling's a good little back and I you know I But I don't know if you ain't again. I'm not trying to get
Take us back to the whatever, but there were serious people She made me serious articles and podcasts and making that darling Hayden should start over tree Henderson The darling Hayden She started a trade or something and I was having discussion such arguments with these people and I'm like What what are you talking about? You know, oh and you know one get Ross Fulton Was out there like putting stuff other darling Hayden's better than trade Henderson trade Henderson doesn't have vision I'm like, what are you talking about it? I mean, I mean, I and I'm not trying to Denigrate somebody else's take, but that's one of the stupidest things I've heard my life I'm trying to set records in the NFL for 60 yard runs and downhaves moving to Memphis And we're wondering about how he's going to do this year. I mean Like like that was really the height of stupidity Yeah, Jesus It's it's a combination of two things the the trade Henderson trade Henderson slander
and and um trade Henderson Um, what's the word I'm looking for? I don't know the word on the word word The way this fan base a portion of this fan base just Constantly took a hot dukey on trade Henderson We shared this this burden and frustration. We've both talked about this was just utterly ridiculous from him being soft and It's like what are y'all talking about and darling Hayden. I liked darling Hayden I thought he could be really good Maybe possibly he showed some things early, but Come on, man. People would just love to have these takes is just It's just dumb. It was that was never a good take and so now we're seeing we're seeing Okay, so I don't know how darling Hayden going to do a Memphis I really don't I don't have nothing against the kid. I think he's a great kid You know, and I hope he does well, but That's my answer Nevada Yeah, I think I think he'll be I think he'll be he'll be fine and he'll he'll be fine But I'm you know nice kid rooting for him. I hope he does great. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I hope he kills it at Memphis
For sure All right, Ryan cool. It's thanks for the 99 thanks for being a scoop voucher. Remember we have too many dudes not to be able to kill every single team We play with a slant. Let's make that slot position scary. Yes And this is why I've been saying what I've been saying Ryan when I was asking Nevada yesterday by his thoughts on Arthur Smith and what we're going to do is because I agree this why receiver room I think the depth and the the speed and the the versatility of skill set and size I mean, I think we could really do some things So I'm very curious to see how much because again, I know the the power spread is most likely going to be our base You know 12 personnel pound play action I get that but I also want to see how much we spread up with these receivers man because we got the quarterback and the receivers to do it So Nevada, what's your thoughts on this
Hold up did I lose you I yep I lost Nevada So we'll get him back in a second But I want to get his thoughts on this because with these receivers emerging It's kind of is it not tempting To to go three or four wide a lot Nevada, what's your thoughts on this super chat? Look, I think You know how excited I am about Parker and McEwen and Brock Boyd and you know, I mean, I just I I just You know, I want to get move past talking about part line in the 2025 offense and start talking about the 2026 offense You know plan and I mean that for me. I mean like I want to see it. I can't wait to let's get on the field and see what we can do in terms of this stuff because I just feel like we were so limited last year. I mean, you think about that Texas game You we we were together for the Texas game like they didn't ask Julian to do much You know, I'm saying that was a defensive game manage the game do the things just gotten it and that was absolutely the right strategy for a first time
Quora plan the game that that big the biggest hall, you know, opener in college football history But this year you can lean you can lean more into him You can you got he's a veteran. He's a guy with 850 snaps under his belt the trip to To Ann Arbor or win there Um, you know, a big ten championship game a coach will play off game a trip to New York for the eyes Like this guy's been through it. So I think they can lean into him more and Yeah, I just want to I want to see him deal and I want to see him deal and I'm you know, I think in order to do that You need to fully activate all the wide receiver positions and really get guys out there can that can make it happen And I really truly believe Roger spent this guy that can do I think he will do for the offense What MatPatricia did last year for the defense and there are levels You know what a big gym but you know Jim Knowles fan. I was huge Jim Knowles guy, but there are levels There are love stories and you can be good and then somebody can come in and be better Um as good as he was MatPatricia's better So as good as we've been with our guys sort of chip Kelly who and another guy who's on mount Olympus for me
Um, I think Arthur Smith's gonna be a breath of fresh air and a and I think he'll fully activate these positions I definitely agree and I'll double up Ryan on your superchastings for 999 JJ and san are in their money year. It's going to be so special in the offense can't wait to watch this cinema Yeah, and um, I wanted to Show this one now Even though it wasn't in the order because it made sense of what Nevada was just saying and so yeah, there's a lot of really positive things Happening here that should equate to What do you say, uh, do you think this offense is going to be in a top 25 Do you think this is going to be a top 10 offense easily Nevada? Statistically easily. Yeah, he's top 10. Okay. Yes. Yeah, I'm sorry. I agree The only the only hedge that I'll put on that is our schedule stuff remember playing we're playing real teams Yeah, so you know like you know, so like if you're not beating it up on Furman and you know
Alabama state and the citadel and stuff like that then you know, I don't know where that puts us in the ring But I think when all said and done this is that it'll be a top 10 quality offense. I really do believe that Yeah, I agree. It's too too good not to And so especially coming off the last year where we felt like I think even the coaching staff knows that we left a lot out on the field And you know, I think they're motivated to really circle back and Take it to another level this year, especially with JJ and saying in their last years All right, uh geo did things for the five blame Bradford is coming on as well. He'll be special Yeah, he's going to be a stud Shout out to Bill green. He just had a post a couple days ago talking about blame Bradford as well Yeah, he's probably not going to play him a lot this year But he's one of those guys where we expect him to be a starting stud for us Um in the in the coming years Nevada Yeah, blame blame absolutely no question about it, you know
You know, is it going to be this year? Don't know But will he be in the mix by next year for sure and could he come on this year and do you think yeah I just think I think this guy's the limit for that kid. I they couldn't be higher on a young man that I am on blame Bradford Yep, we got some guys man I mean, it's just it's just funny man every every year every offseason You kind of if we don't win the championship Which is most times because most programs don't win the no one wins the championship every year It's always this reflection like you know, we're gonna fall off and what do we have and how are we gonna We just reload man. We just reload And it's just I don't want to ever just take it for granted Because guys like blame Bradford who we plucked from I'm sorry my memories fading me is it Louisiana was a Mississippi Louisiana Out of LSU's backyard, you know, a a five star kid but he should be a five star kid. I think he was a high four
It's just incredible. So yep, definitely cited all right geo did thanks for the 10 The way JJ answers questions is a credit to the culture here every year our kids are the most impressive group at the combine during interview sessions Example sunny styles absolutely And again tip the cap to Ryan Day in this program excellent excellent super chat geo did I was watching that when I was watching the Ryan Day interview earlier with heyward um Ryan day, I think it was Ryan data mentioned that one of the GM's Or was it I'm getting confused it could have been Tom McShay talking about anyway There's been so much gushing about a house they football That maybe I'm forgetting who said it, but they said that sunny styles was going to be like running a fortune founded company after he's the player football He's that impressive and shot out to you know that the styles family the mom and dad just excellent parenting Excellent parenting. I've had the pleasure of meeting the rental styles
And I haven't had the pleasure of meeting their mother yet Hopefully I will but just hearing her speak is impressive of her great things I mean, this is this what we do here man. This is the culture On and off the field or how state football is excellent under Ryan day Nevada Well, yeah, and the kids are different, but it starts with you know It's kind of like garbage in garbage out, you know When you put quality in you get quality out and they they refine it in the recruiting process You know, they're they're very dip you know very discerning in terms of who they're bringing in You know bringing they talk about the brotherhood and the family and the culture to house state that they're they mean it And and they do it they they get good kids in and they put good kids out and that's uh and that's not like that's not the same thing everywhere And that's another point of differentiation for the book guys Definitely not again. Don't take it for granted at all, but um Yes, great show fun show per usual that is the last super chat that we have
But um Nevada any last thoughts um Uh, that you would and I'm looking at this comment I'm sorry. It said it's okay. Maybe I wasn't it wasn't a serious question That's cool. It's hard to tell if you don't put a laugh out loud or or something on here. I don't know But I'm gonna take you seriously unless I can tell I think I was about to download hate question. Yeah Yeah, I think he told us he is like a jackass plank out of center Oh, but anyway, any last words we've got to hear about him now just uh look that the constant thing that I get from everybody because he practices Wow, this is run like an NFL thing that wow, this is professional wow, this is buttoned up Keep you keep hearing it heard it again today It's uh, it's it's it's impressive what they're doing here this spring and I think we're gonna see it It's uh, you're gonna pay dividends in the fall Absolutely, and I'm looking forward to The spring game next week shot at the clueless It's good to put faces with names clueless hopped on the park
As with Devon and vb coach last night You did a great job clueless of expressing your points. You could you could be a podcaster man You did well And so now I saw your face now. I got a better chance to find your your tailgate because I know what you look like So that's good But but anyway, listen y'all we're gonna go ahead and get out of here Devon is next and I believe he said he has duke on tonight. So make sure you tune in for that until then Love your buccasco family buccination. Peace You
