But several notable names were missing from the Sunday March 15th broadcast, sparking backlash from fans. Actors James Vanderbeak and Eric Dane drew the most complaints. Vanderbeak died February 11th at age 48 after fighting colorectal cancer. Dane followed eight days later on February 19th at age 53 from ALS. Fans took to social media right away, voicing frustration over those recent losses. They also pointed out omissions like Tom Noonan, who died February 14th at 74 from cancer, and Malcolm Jamal Warner, who drowned in July 2025 at 54. Many of these figures build careers mainly in television rather than movies, which experts say likely explains their exclusion from the ceremonies.
