Orioles Acquire Lefty Reliever Nick Raquet, Option Brandon Young; Eflin to 60-Day IL with Elbow Discomfort
The Baltimore Orioles have traded minor league outfielder Brayden Smith to the St. Louis Cardinals for lefty reliever Nick Raquet. Raquet, a 30-year-old slider specialist, made his major league debut last September with the Cardinals. He has a 2.24 ERA in the minors last season and has thrown three innings of one-run ball this year. The Orioles have optioned Brandon Young to Triple-A and activated Raquet immediately. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Orioles have placed Zach Eflin on the 60-day injured list due to elbow discomfort. Eflin is seeking a second opinion from Dr. Keith Meister and is expected to miss all of April and May.

The Orioles just pulled off a tray for lefty reliever Nick Rackett from the Cardinals, sending minor league outfielder Braden Smith back in return. They activated Rake right away and optioned Brandon Young to triple A. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, Baltimore moved Zach Eflin to the 60-day injured list. Eflin's dealing with elbow discomfort after leaving his season debut early on March 31. He's heading for a second opinion from Dr. Keith Meister today and at minimum, home miss all of April and May. Rakesh a 30-year-old slider specialist who finally cracked the majors last September with two scoreless innings for St. Louis. Drafted in the third round by the nationals back in 2017, he bounced around, got released, sat out a couple years, then clawed back. Through Indy Ball and Winter Leagues to sign with the cards last year. In the minor's last season, he posted a sharp 2.24 ERA over 52 in the third innings, striking out 28% of batters.
Though he struggled some at triple A. This year, he's thrown three innings of one run ball with three strikeouts for Memphis. With options left, Rakesh lots into the Orioles bullpen and could head to Norfolk if needed, giving Baltimore fresh arm while they sort Eflin's set back.
