Orgreave Inquiry Launched: Truth and Justice

Chared by Pete Wilcox, the Bishop of Sheffield, it was first announced back in July by then Home Secretary of Vett Cooper. The goal is full disclosure of records, much like the Hillsboro panel, with a report due by Spring 2028 to help public understanding. This follows the heavy policing at Orgreef that led to arrests and prosecutions of 95 minors. Those charges collapsed in court in June 1985, when police evidence fell apart. Campaigners have pushed for years for this kind of independent look. The Orgreef Truth and Justice campaign started in 2012 by former minors, welcomed the move but noted the long-awaited. They stressed their role in shaping it to focus on minor stories, backed by labor groups. South Yorkshire police say they're fully on board to cooperate.
