From the Daily News Now Network, this is Cory with Global News Today. President Trump ordered a massive military operation against Iran after growing frustrated with stalled nuclear talks. On February 27, 2026, he approved Operation Epic Fury from Air Force One, targeting top leaders including Supreme Leader, Ayatollah, Ali Kaminay, and key military chiefs. The strikes unfolded swiftly across air, sea, land, and cyber domains, involving thousands of troops, advance fighters, and carrier groups. Earlier that evening, U.S. forces finalized preparations with final weapon loads and rehearsals. Intelligence from the CIA, shared with Israel, pinpointed leaders' locations leading to precise hits. The operation began around 1.15 a.m., the next day, disrupting Iran's combat capabilities in coordinated waves. Explosions rocked Tehran, prompting Israel's Defense Minister to declare a state of emergency. Three rapid strikes killed Kaminay, and about 40 senior figures, including the Revolutionary
Guard Head and Defense Minister. Trump quickly posted, on Truth Social, boasting of unbeatable tracking systems. By March 1, Trump reported U.S. forces had sunk nine Iranian naval ships, destroyed their naval headquarters, and hit hundreds of targets like, guard facilities, and air defenses. He said strikes would continue until objectives are met, possibly four to five weeks, in a video message. According to officials, this is not an endless war or nation-building-like past conflicts. Defense Secretary Pete Hakesf stressed the regime has changed for the better, with no signs of an imminent Iranian preemptive strike. Iran's potential new leaders have signaled openness to U.S. talks.
