Only Action Cures Fear

About this episode

Fear tends to shout at the starting line and go quiet once we move. We dig into a single, transformative rule—only action cures fear—and explore how tiny steps rewire the brain faster than any pep talk. From the childhood diving board to high-stakes boardrooms, we unpack why hesitation magnifies threat while motion restores perspective, and we offer practical ways to act before you feel ready.

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

Simple as that!

0:00Welcome to Let It Be Easy with Susie Moore. Here is a lesson that I learned years ago when I was 15 years old from the book The Magic of Thinking Vague. It's this, I repeat it often if you're in my walk and my walls you'll hear me say it again and again and there's no way around it. Only action cures fear. Think about it, if you want to take a jump off a diving board as a kid and the pool looks kind of big and scary in your learning, is it by standing there or reading books about diving or psyching yourself up that you're going to jump? Or is it simply through jumping even when you're afraid? There's an old saying that if you run towards a lion it becomes a kitten and this obviously doesn't mean run towards any lions but it's saying approach the thing that scares you and you'll realise it was nothing, it was paper, it could blow away.

1:03You know it's interesting, having worked in sales in the tech world for a long time, I'd feel really nervous, especially if my boss or CEO were coming into a meeting with me and I was leading the presentation. And what I would always notice is that in the lobby waiting, my fear was at its loudest. As soon as I went into the boardroom and got started, I was fine. I was calm because I was busy taking the action. Here's something else that's important to know too. Avoidance, if you're avoiding something, it's teaching your anxiety, it's teaching your brain that it's right, it's saying look, we avoided that and we're okay. Action is completely opposite, it is showing you and revealing to you one action at a time that you're strong, you can handle things, you've got life. Isn't that what resilience is? Isn't that what grit is? It's not waiting quietly in the corner, hoping you'll feel brave one day.

2:05Because we don't clear the fear to do the things, we do the things, which clears the fear. Fear too lost to erase its losses. So think about this, maybe you were scared once before you asked someone out or you gave a presentation or you moved to a new place. Your fear will love to forget that you were scared once, but you did it. This is why we want to remind ourselves constantly of how capable we are and how much we've already overcome. When it comes to taking action, when it comes to feeling afraid, what if you just said, yes, I'm scared and I'm doing it. There's nothing wrong with fear, there's nothing wrong with being afraid, there's nothing wrong with your brain keeping you safe, but you ultimately get to decide. That's how powerful you are. And if you want to be the most confident person in the world, you are living with constant discomfort, taking constant, uncomfortable action.

3:06And at the end of your life, or even at the end of the week, we'll go, wow, look at that really brave person. All you do is act anyway. Until tomorrow, my friends, so much love and ease. Hey, friend, I've got something really cool for you. I want to give you free access to my signature course called Slay Your Year, which typically sells for $997.
