One Punch Kills: Royal Marine Jailed

0:00On March 13th, a royal marine has been jailed for three and a half years after killing a man with one punch during a night out in Exmouth, Devon. 22-year-old Joseph Jones, from Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 29-year-old chef, Seymal Yomaz from Manchester. The incident happened on December 13th, and Yomaz passed away three days later. That evening, Yomaz had been drinking and chatting amably with a group that included Marines outside a pub. He was in a playful mood, hugging people and being outgoing. Jones got annoyed when Yomaz teased him about being from Birmingham instead of his actual hometown. In court at Exeter Crown Court, prosecutors stressed that Yomaz was no danger at all, and Marines received training in self-control and judgment. A fellow Marine even told Jones right after that his actions were way out of line. The punch knocked Yomaz unconscious before he hit the ground. The judge noted Jones felt insulted over the hometown jab and lashed out without cause.
