Oilers Trade for Murphy, Blackhawks Gain Draft Pick

The Emmons and Oilers have traded for defensemen Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks. In return, they sent over a second round draft pick in 2028. The Blackhawks held onto half of Murphy's $4.4 million cap hit, so Emmonson only takes on $2.2 million. This deal comes right before the March 6th trade deadline. The Oilers needed a steady right shot defenseman to shore up their back end, especially with some top guys not at their best this year. Murphy brings a lot to the table as a 6 foot 4 shut down specialist. He's been a rock for Chicago since 2017, playing tough minutes without chasing points. Oilers fans are buzzing about the added depth to their top 4. To fit him in under the cap, the Oilers placed Mattias Janmark on long-term injured reserve for the rest of the regular season. They also waved Andrew Manjapané and Alec Regula for more room.
