On March 9th, here's the latest out of Durham, Ohio State University president, Walter Ted Carter Jr. resigned on Monday. The 66-year-old leader stepped down after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with a woman who wanted public resources for her private, business. He called it a personal mistake that gave her undue access to university leadership. Carter informed the Board of Trustees right away and left voluntarily. In his statement, he mentioned departing with his wife Linda for personal reasons. He had only been at Ohio State since 2023, coming from the University of Nebraska system. Carter brought a strong background to the job. He once led the U.S. Naval Academy as superintendent and holds the national record for carrier arrested landings with over 2,000 safe touchdowns as a pilot. Ohio State is massive, serving more than 60,000 students and boasting a top-foot ball team and medical center. The resignation fills a spot left open by former president Christina Johnson. She quit mid-contract back in 2023 with little explanation.

Johnson had been an engineer, energy department official, and chancellor of New York's public university system before joining the Buckeyes in 2020. Ohio State runs on a huge budget with nearly $12 billion in revenue planned for fiscal year 2026. No word yet on who will replace Carter or any board response to the situation.
