Off-Duty Firefighter Saves Life in Sutton Coldfield

0:00On April 22nd, an off-duty firefighter named Matthew Horn turned everyday driver into instant hero in Sutton Coldfield. While heading home from the theater with his wife, he spotted a woman seriously hurt after getting hit by a car. Based out of West Midlands fire services Sutton Coldfield station, Matthew pulled over and took full control until paramedics rolled up. He jumped right in with his training, checking her breathing and spotting signs of a head injury since she was unresponsive, but still conscious. In the cold night air, he kept her comfortable, calmed down shocked onlookers, and made sure help was on route. Paramedic Sean Sheeran from the Sanwell hub was one of the first on scene, and couldn't stop praising Matthew's calm handover in top-notch care. Sean even reached out to the fire service to highlight how Matthew's compassion and skills made all the difference. Crew commander John Dean backed that up, calling Matthew Dillogen, and a perfect example of their rigorous first responder training, paying off big. Time.
