ODU Shooting: ROTC Cadets Stop Terrorist

A shooting rocked Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, leaving one person dead and two others wounded in a business school classroom. Reserve officers training course students there showed incredible bravery by subduing the gunmen and stopping him from causing more harm. Authorities identified the shooter as Muhammad Baylor Jalal, who shouted Allahu Akbar before firing. FBI officials confirmed he is dead and are treating the incident as terrorism. Jalal, a naturalized citizen from Sierra Leone and former Army National Guard member, pleaded guilty in 2016 to trying to support the Islamic State Group. He served in 11-year sentence and was released from federal prison last December. Police arrived within 10 minutes of the first call and found the shooter already neutralized. The two wounded victims are ROTC members at the university, with one in critical condition and the other treated and released. Campus leaders canceled classes through Friday and offered counseling to students.
