Nottingham Hospitals Maternity Services: Steps Towards Improvement

0:00On March 4th, Nottingham University Hospitals, NHS Trust's Maternity Services at City Hospital and Queen's Medical Center still hold an overall rating of requires improvement from the latest Care Quality Commission report. Inspectors visited both sites in May 2025 and found no change from before. The services earned good marks for being effective, caring and responsive, but need work in safety and leadership. The Trust's Chief Executive, Anthony May, welcomed the feedback and out-mind steps already underway. They boosted midwifery staffing with vacancies dropping from 51 whole-time equivalents in 2024 to just 15 now. Interviews for more obstetricians are happening this month, and they've ramped up security drills and staff training to better protect patients. Patients remain highly positive, with 97% giving good feedback in the Friends and Family Test, praising the kindness of staff. The Trust also flagged three regulatory breaches during

On the governance front, new channels for staff input include leadership sessions, risk workshops, and monthly briefings to build trust and visibility. Medicine management audits are stronger, and they're reviewing baby tagging and door security protocols.
