Noah's Tragic Death: Nursery Staff Sentenced

0:00On April 16th, a tragic case out of Dudley, England, where 14-month-old Noah Sabanda suffocated to death at fairy tales day nursery back on December 9th, 2022. A worker pinned him face down on a cushion, threw a blanket over his head and held him with her leg just to force a nap. Today, the nursery, its director, and that staffer face sentencing at Wolverhampton Crown Court. 23-year-old nursery practitioner Kimberly Cookson pleaded guilty to gross negligence manslaughter for her role in the incident. The nursery itself admitted corporate manslaughter and a health and safety violation, while 55-year-old owner, Deborah Latewood, copped to A, safety breach, saying she should have known kids were being put down wrong. Noah's mother, Masi Sabanda, laid it all out in a raw victim-impact statement, saying no-day passes without guilt for trusting the nursery that killed her son. She blasted the excessive force as prison-level rough, wondered if his skin color fueled the hate and described him dying alone, scared, and in, pain worse than an animal.

1:05CCTV footage captured the whole thing, showing Noah wrapped tight and restrained when he fought sleep. Staff found him not breathing, called 999, but he passed in the hospital. The nursery shut down for good after. As Judge Shoudery hands down sentences this afternoon, this hits hard on childcare dangers and accountability, leaving a family forever broken.
