So the transfer window has closed and didn't quite slam shut for United East closed.
I'd say not much business on the final day and with Dom to talk about what United's business was,
how we think about it, why there's a little bit of online, consternation and we'll talk about Everton at the weekend too.
Before we get going Dom, I'm compelled by contract to say,
everyone should hit subscribe right now if you're on YouTube.
We've got lots of new followers recently so just make sure you hit the subscribe button and then you'll get us in your feed.
And same if you just happen to have discovered us on the audio apps as well and drop us a comment.
We need to win that podcast war at its rate, been raging for years.
We're old school so we're trying to join the modern age, dinosaurs of the podcast world, something like that.
Alright so the window closed, United didn't do any business on deadline day so just the three main transfers of the midfielders,
under a Santos, your utilemans and Colors, Belieber and then obviously called Dalo as a backup keeper,
a little bit of outgoing business but loans, basically no and a couple of sales of under 21s but no significant outgoing business.
Like your overall take on how you feel about the window after it's closed.
Got enough probably not probably one short. I would have said at the start of the window that we needed three midfielders and a left back probably as a minimum.
And then a lot of the other stuff would be outgoing, outgoing dependent and whether we would sell Josh Resurxie,
what happened to obviously in the manual I guess a situation maybe complicated things with without going,
they were probably banking on making a bit of bank from him and didn't get that because of his injury and then yeah the rash for the situation,
we didn't know what was going to happen without the start of the window did we and I'm very much a piece with that.
I know a lot of online United fans have their issues about that and you know I was very strident in putting those forward saying he shouldn't be here and that he's you know a big cost on the wage bill etc.
I think it's a decent window still it's not it's not a great window.
I do quite like the way United have gone about the window in the sort of measured not panicking way that they conducted business and they really did you know target the midfield rebuild in the same way that a year ago they targeted the forward line rebuild and I can't like that.
You know approach to structuring a window around something like that and saying we're going to address that it actually properly and in detail and meticulously and they've done that into successive windows now but in both those windows has been areas where he thought well they've left them so short here and they let them so short here.
So that's still where we are reading quite a lot of information about the left back search and you know what may or may not have happened you know to being offered certain players and rejecting them and putting their eggs fully in the Louis Hall basket for 2027 which you know we can't we can't comment on that now because we don't know whether he will come next year.
If he comes next year maybe some of this stuff looks genius moves that they turn players down but you know until that happens we have to you know say the jury is out on a lot of the business.
I think that's all pretty fair. The measured approach is interesting because of course it can be read by fans as lacking ambition.
I don't I just see it like that I think there's there's some financial concerns United definitely could have spent more under the regulations as someone dropped in the comments there are 73% that is not true.
So if you're going on to PSR watch or whatever that is not right at all United have some headroom not not loads and loads right they they've definitely added to the cost this summer because they didn't get sales.
So it bought three players in that is added to the wage budget pick whatever number you think each of these players is earning and think about how much that is added we've lost Casimiro that balances some out but ratchet has come back.
And he wasn't on the wage bill last season as about 15 million or so so and then there's the champions league bonuses.
So United have definitely added to the cost base. Champions league revenue is coming in we don't know how far we'll go in that but I think if you just say they make I don't know the playoff round it might be net net zero I'll do a financial deep dive with Jamie Friday it might be out over the weekend where we'll go through that in detail so United might need a quarter final semi final to actually make a profit on this season the way it's turned out so is that it's about 200 million pounds little over 200 million pounds.
In historic payables to do this 12 month period and in the last accounts there's 400 million there overall so that has definitely been a concern on the squad cost ratio side of things they could definitely have bought them in field there and in fact like you know in terms of like cash management they had released a lot of cash in the revolving credit facility a lot of headroom in the revolving credit facilities.
Not a lot of cash in hand but so they could have done that and of course you never pay everything up front well usually don't necessarily have to hire him a guy well done Edward would.
And so they definitely could have done but they are being cautious and they also appear to have a price that they're setting for every play they go for and they just walk away from deals that they don't want and I guess that's the attempt to not be done money anymore you saw that we lose page on the last day of the window.
Like it seems like the gap was maybe four maybe five million something like that which in overall terms united is like nothing percentage terms it's quite high but they obviously had a figure they were happy with and just said no.
It's interesting that one I mean obviously probably not a player who would have featured in the first team had he arrived anyway.
He's playing league on football for Leicester and playing well and developing he's very very young you know do you even need to do that deal now if you've got some sort of relationship with his agent sorry who represents the player you often see players like loan back in that scenario to the club you know they were anyway it's almost feels like a soft loan back without actually ever having to buy him I wonder if some hands have been shaken and something will happen down the line with that one.
Like you say you know I wasn't happy with a 10 million price that they were quoted 10 plus bonuses yeah I mean they've been happy to pay that because they paid 9 million for Hannibal Mitch Brey I mean they they paid 8 million for Tyne and Thompson well four plus four so I think they're probably happy to heavily incentivize these things because that makes sense right if you get a player into the first in the make 50 appearances and win a trophy and get an England cap then you're like well they've been six years ago.
So you've actually got a bargain so you might as well heavily incentivize it and then maybe Leicester given their current financial position wanted more cash upfront more happen with am I didn't it when we signed that when we signed am I'd and he was I think it was maybe 40 million year total package and probably a lot of that has come in now because he's become an established member of the first team and he's played international football and he's been relative success as a signing so yeah maybe we'll see more of those types of deals when you when you say you know what I mean I'm not sure what I'm saying is a good thing.
I'm just sort of like talking about lacking ambition and or how much ambition in the us have shown I think you have to tow the line between showing ambition and not being reckless and there's some teams out there probably going to talk or definitely talk about spurs in that regard we can maybe even chuck everton in there who were playing at the weekend not in terms of how much they've spent maybe but in terms of what they were doing on the final day of the of the window trying to make sure they get enough players in and at the right player.
I'm just going to be there's leaving and getting that balance right and scrubbing around at the end of the window.
That's quite undignified and it used to be united like don't that's not that's not get ourselves wrong here used like that used to be united and I remember covering those
mad deadline days for the month's journey news and thinking I don't actually know who's who's going who's staying at the start of the day here and anything could unfold in the next 24 hours.
Bar the odd story the odd little whisper of a left bag and a bit of a flirtation right and I know we probably the main one that appeared on deadline day that didn't really happen so I think you know I just
actually probably become so lucky that that didn't happen so I think that shows you are not running yourselves properly as a football club and as a scouting and recruitment team.
Yes although I think the if you are to be critical not just of like we're talking about approach here rather than just have they got enough in and did they spend enough money.
If they left back is not a new idea that they probably need one right I don't think anyone actually believes that Luke sure can stay fit for a whole season again it was pretty much a miracle last season and half of that was at center back right so.
If you were to be critical you'd say well that surely was an identified as an area of weakness they could have done a deal for somebody earlier in the window it if they're I mean Lewis Hall's very good player and I like him.
Do we believe he is like uniquely generational and there's no other player that is close to him I know about that you know and I mean he's not funny enough Luke Luke sure data matches up to Lewis Hall's quite well.
I think we look at Luke sure he hasn't got the physical profile he wants had he doesn't get around the outside and there's how many times he actually doing putting across in these days and there's all those worries as well as the injury worries right is it enough quality.
And enough enough depth and I worry about both of those same right fullback really quality rather than.
That's a good player but not great.
I think Luke I was just going to cut in on Luke sure because I think there's been a bit of a misnomer about about him and how he started the season and what role he can play and maybe I've fed into that because I actually watched a big analysis video of his performance against it's
which he was actually really good apart from the mistake he made a mistake for the goal fine but United scored five goals anyway and that's probably what's going to be like this season because the attack is a lot better than the defense and Luke sure is not even the worst player in that defense not by a long shot the best Luke sure is probably the best defender we have at the club right when he's playing his best and yes I said throughout the window I thought that we needed a left back United needed and someone to take the owners offshore in that role.
But you know would that person if it wasn't Lewis Hall if it was a Salinas or a David round or somebody like that would that person be playing instead of short in the biggest and most important games probably not probably not yeah.
So I don't know where that leaves that leaves us waiting for Lewis Hall basically for a year.
Yeah maybe although I'm not sure United's negotiating position there is great.
We want this guy and nobody else.
Yeah exactly it's kind of showing your cards a little bit it is the area weakness well one area of weakness so obviously left back there's no death there.
If you sure can't play or needs to be rotated we're going to get a right foot left back and I think that has a tactical implication not just can Dalloy play there yes he can play there but he comes inside and who's going to then be bombing up the other side to make sure you're not like playing everything through the middle.
This is where carrot ball sometimes struggles where the opposition just sits in the back five and makes it very very narrow because we don't have enough wits because you don't have anyone who goes on the outside so all our attackers want to come inside as well.
Yeah I might be the only one who's really prepared to go on the outside and even then he's on his wrong foot right so it kind of makes you know predictable if we don't have with from full back so that that's a weakness.
The other weakness is center back and we got loads and loads of center backs and loads of quality center backs as well but.
Three of them can't stay fit basically and then two of them are very young and so there's the concerns.
If they also stay fit United pretty well stopped and for different types of games as well I do worry about if Harry McGuire is going to play a lot of games this season how can you know you play a.
High line with high high press.
With Harry McGuire I just don't that's the square I can't circle no it's never it's never it's never made any sense I do wonder whether Patrick Dorgu is the is the.
The guy that comes in in that in the left back situation because I had the kinds of games that United will be playing when he needs to come in yeah you know it's the lesser opposition in the comments you know it lost a hole there maybe there are no lesser opposition but you know sab are in the champ is league or.
The league cup games and FA Cup games you know that's when.
Maybe sure rests and Dorgu comes in as a left back you know carrots a big fan of one of your full backs goes and the other one stays and maybe you play Masarawi and he stays as a right back because he's very very suited to that role as a right back who.
He doesn't have to make those long busting runs and then Dorgu can play that you know overlapping left right well it's not an ideal solution it's not it's not a superb left back alternative and even I think David Rammor or Ryan Aignori would be you know those sort of stopgap players in there who would be you know
Closer top quality maybe not elite elite but really close to quality but the club didn't want to do that for reasons that have been quite well stated now I mean that's all fair Patrick Dorgu just minor word on him he's hardly ever played the left back in his entire career you know I know in theory he is he's.
He's broke place there for them. He does play there for Denmark and it is interesting that he does do that he I was looking through the data it's not not clean data and I can't I can't claim to have watched let Jay every week so I know this so places like who scored more like like kind of categorize them and it basically played more as a forward for let Jay then then as a left back so I don't know how accurate this is but apparently played as a left back quite a bit at youth level so I think the question mark is.
Does Karak trust him there he I mean I think there was some pretty good reporting that he no longer trusts.
Luke Shaw out of possession right he's worried that he can you can't do the attacking and the defending bit at the same time anymore and I think that's probably fair does he trust Patrick Dorgu on the defensive side of things and maybe you're right maybe we work that one out in games where expect to have 60% 70% and the ball and sure comes in for the bigger games for the experience here I don't know it's not.
It's theoretical it is interesting that karak is never played in there that just like he's never done it so he does seem to seem much more as a winger and dog he's actually played really well as a winger under karak second half of last season.
Arsenal away in those games yeah in the big games actually in the big games we've got that space to run into and you know taking the ball and the transition he's a really good player in those scenarios and I think he's a developing player and I'm excited to see him and I want to see develop more as a forward instead of a left back
ideally so it's isn't a great solution. I know I mean if he became the next Alfonso Davis or something like that you know a brilliant attacking liftback of Roberta Carlos pick your player that would be awesome of course yeah we'll see.
Dorgu becoming Roberta Carlos that's the thumbnail for the vote for the podcast sorted.
Let's talk about the Mexican standoff that we had with Josh the XC flow Balagan, Lamin Camara, Monaco Chelsea United Everton because that was fun.
Nobody in that situation literally nobody players or clubs got what they wanted and they all managed to shoot themselves in the dick or maybe each other in the dick I'm not sure but they were like definitely gunshots fired somewhere.
So let's go through what it was so Monaco desperately needed to sell for there in some financial difficulty so they were trying to sell Lamin Camara and or flow Balagan Everton wanted flow Balagan.
It got all the way to the deal sheet being completed and not signed by the player Everton did the physical and said there's a problem they tried to renegotiate with Monaco they appear to really negotiated the fee successfully with Monaco but not with flow Balagan who's on a decent contract and take the lead.
A decent contract and tax free right so they offered him less than he's currently earning like you know so that fell through.
Lamin Camara was supposed to get a Chelsea the fee was agreed and they're not agreed and then agreed again with Monaco the deal sheet was fully signed except for Monaco didn't sign it because right the last moment they pulled out thinking that they'd sold Balagan seems like the only one to sell one of them.
When the Balagan deal fell through Everton in quite a bad Josh Zerksy Zerksy had turned down a bunch of options in Italy it seems like like Florentina that the United were happy to loan him out for a small loan fee and covering wages.
She's interesting Everton offered 10 million which is cover wages plus a loan fee which wouldn't actually cover his full of monetization but nearly.
Am I missing anything here so Chelsea didn't get the midfield or they wanted Monaco didn't get the sale they wanted Everton didn't get the forward they wanted and United keeping Josh Zerksy and they'll probably never play.
That's really good Ed I think David Austin's job is threatened by you after that summary.
The only thing you missed out was better what going to Florentina from Everton they know that they needed Zerksy and then Everton ended up without another striker instead of better because they couldn't get either Zerksy or Balagan.
So they've got TNO Barry pretty much as their only centre forward option and I know they've got Tyrick George from Chelsea who can play that but basically they've got one fit centre forward and that her David Moise talking about TNO Barry the other day and he didn't sound like he had the greatest of confidence in him because he's a young player who's come from abroad and needs more time to adapt to the Premier League etc.
I mean you probably scored two goals against United on Sunday and I've said that but we'll see about it. It's actually maybe all Manchester City's fault Ed for leaving the end of Fernandez deals so damn late.
How you can you know box off 125 million for a player yeah we're going to spend that amount on a top class player and waiting till the last day of the deadline to do it.
Very odd that really doesn't make sense to me.
No I know because they knew they wanted him all summer. Yeah the regime there are happy to back their new manager and that's why they've spent so much they got rid of a lot of players as well City didn't they sold like 400 and something million pounds worth of players.
Good sellers. Yeah I just unbelievable sellers unbelievable amount of money they got for some of these players.
Rudry you can kind of understand he's older but obviously world class. It's the Tijani Rinders deal that they made a profit on.
It didn't nothing. Savinio. He did nothing. Savinio mad 85 million for him he's got two goals and 12 assists in 50 something appearances.
I can't believe Tottenham didn't go again for somebody else on the on the last day of the window. It really felt like they were going to go.
I know they got muddric on loan but they were linked with and died. They wouldn't die here. Yeah and end up going to City.
There's talk of Richales and maybe going back to Everton. Some bad things happened it was a good that deadline day I was working.
I worked for both the Guardian and the BBC. It filled my day with transfers. I actually really enjoyed it.
First one for years because I don't know deadline days lost a lot of it's lost there is not it's not the peak deal though in the year day anymore is it.
Sky Sports is not what it was. Well they don't break the stories anymore Sky Sports it's everyone else that's doing it.
For Brits here Rui and they're all on steam. That's true. I mean Romano I just I know he has a following but he gets paid for some of his stuff.
So you can't trust what he's putting out as neutral news anymore. And the guy puts out PR in favour of Mason Green would like there's no tomorrow.
Yeah well and Saudi Arabia. All right a few just to wrap up United then a few loan players went out. I should have the list in front of me and I don't so remind me by missing you these Jacob Davani has gone back to Scotland.
I think he's he's joined joined am I right? He's all hearts. I'm going to offend someone here. I think it's he's his hips.
Yeah I lived in Scotland for a year doing a master's degree and so I went to both hips and hearts and and ranges and and Celtic and.
Queen of the South that was actually Queen of the South's great because it's playing this tiny little ground outside of Hampton Park or the least used to.
But hips have they write down in Leith on the dox side which is a great area of Edinburgh really nice.
Yeah brilliant brilliant city yeah great fun. Yeah so Jacob Davani has gone out.
Chido B went to Vilum's fine Holland's not the best club but hopefully plays a lot. I think that's what he needs now.
Yeah he needs first team football so yeah I'm pleased to see him get back. So another year in the 21's just a special gift for him.
That's my gift for you bro. Cal the season before last or broke out what he played in the first team. Yeah.
The season before last and then went missing last year because of form and fitness and stuff. He just needs to to rebook.
So I do feel like I know you you in Dan's book about Chido on a recent pod. I just think there is a player there.
He looked like he knew what position to be in and how to get there when he played in the first team.
Actually looked like more of a threat than Rasmus Hoelund when he played I thought.
Yeah so I hold out hope for him. Yeah it'll be good for him. I think Chido getting first team football.
I think there's a player there. They worked a lot on his out of possession stuff last year in the under 21's and I think that's because they were frustrated.
He wouldn't do any pressing or defending at all and so they did a lot work within their didn't score as many goals last season but I think he's become a more all round player.
What else did we had we had Ethan Wheatley go out on loan I forget who to now.
J. Fitzgerald went to somewhere in league one. Can you remember?
Is it Rotherham? Rotherham that's it. Dango also went out on loan somewhere in league two or league one.
Wait, is it Lincoln? He Lincoln that's it. Yeah.
And then Secukone has gone back to Lozan. I think even though he didn't really play.
A Jack Moore House went out on loan as well. I think I'm right in saying well done for doing all your research yet.
I did more research on everything than I did on this. And so Kenya.
Beac has come back to United and will spend the year with the under 21's. He was on loan with Lozan.
He was one of those multi club ownership ones. It's funny we've used Lozan quite a bit.
Tyler Fredrickson was sold to Lozan even though it's part of the same group of companies.
We haven't used niece much. I know we had that kind of ban for a while when we're in the same year for competition
but that's gone now and surprise there hasn't been more use of that.
I know like so Jimmy's trying to sell the club and you can't sell it to there's no TV contract in France.
So it's not worth anything.
At least we're not and I don't want us to get to the level of Chelsea and Straussburg where they feel like a deal is done between them every day.
And there's about 27 players who moved between them the last month.
Can we not do that? It just feels a little bit grubby and a little bit like we're taking the piss out of the rules.
But City do it and City moved the aforementioned Savino from choice to City even though he'd never played for choice.
He spent all the time on loan as your own there.
And strictly speaking that should have been banned because your own and City were in the Champions League at the same time.
But because he was only on loan you know so you moved from City to City on loan and then to City and then to back to City and then to City finally it was like fucking insane.
But I don't know I don't know if that's the game I mean it's not been proven out the multi club ownership model has been really successful.
I mean maybe it's boosted the whole value of the City group that they got all these football clubs but I don't know it's necessarily apart from a few of the clubs.
I know Chelsea use it but they could loan those plays out if they wanted to hold players.
I mean I know there's rules now around how many you can loan out internationally so effectively negotiating with themselves when they negotiate with Strauss Borg is another way of doing it when they can't have whatever their maximum number of international loans is.
These arrangements always seem to just benefit the parent club or the senior club the most and then the rest of them sort of serve as satellites to them.
Like you got New York City and Melbourne City and you're over a twat or serving Manchester City really and they are sort of twat.
That's sorry my friend is nowhere near to scratch.
No no I'm sure you're sure that's right actually it's definitely not Troy's is it.
I thought I thought twatmen three but maybe I'm wrong.
They called three FC I don't know.
No he sounds about the same.
One player who didn't go online we probably should talk about Ed's Harry Amass and the fact that he like easy going to be part of the first team squad and we're going to see him in games this season I personally think it would be nice to and to see you know
to chuck him in and to see if he can play a role.
I know a lot of suggesting the Harry Amass as the main Luke Shored deputy would have me accuses that Glazer and in your shell by a lot of people on social media because he's the cheap option and lacking ambition and all that jazz but could he you know we like to him a couple of years ago and he has a lot of potential.
It's done a bit of bulking up but not load so I think that's the thing he's he's very small and physically they're worried was he up to technically I think he's really good.
I'm not worried about him technically.
He seems to know where to run and where to pass I think he's defending so right and we know at least under 21 level he's he's very good going forward.
He did very well. It's every once they got an unfortunate injury.
I mean honestly I think for his development a year in the championship would be very good we know he's a very good player at that level.
But they didn't they couldn't get the right loan or they didn't buy another left back probably if United had loaned an 8 nori or whoever on the final day.
They would have loaned or sold Amass on that day I imagine I think there were you know playing of options there.
They didn't execute on Salinas. Do they not like I saw him once I watched the racing Santander game so all you guys didn't have to what was a result of it.
He didn't do much honestly didn't have to do much because easy win over El Che I like racing Santander though they look like I mean honestly they look like total football.
The rotations of the players was really interesting and I went up and read about the coach's name I'm totally forgetting now and like he's one of these that is really up and coming and like all the tacticals love him because they play like this really interesting brand of sort of relational football like total football you would have called it.
Salinas said loan now you're taking off all the top journalist boxes today.
There you go yeah I should maybe it may encourage you on the continent international on the continent yeah I think that branding has been taken but yeah why not.
Okay so that's the window then it's very hard to grade it and I don't want to sound too much like Andy Mitten by sitting on the fence here about it but I feel like overall the midfields and eight and it's a optimistic eight because I really like your profile players but they're all very young.
I'm a tealman's not young but the others who are and so there's a risk associated with that.
And so it could turn out to be in the years time we're like disappointed but for me I feel like that's pretty good and then overall because there's no backup strike and because I'm worried about central defense and because there's no left back maybe a six six and a half.
Yeah I'm saying six.
But in the top class left back I feel very different.
Lewis Hall is a nine out of ten window genuinely think it is and I would have ideally swapped jerksy for someone who fits the squad of it better if they could have got a sale there and reinvested with somebody I don't even know who but someone of the profile of sesca who could come in and replicate that role that would have been really good.
I accepted that was always hugely ambitious and hugely yeah probably optimistic thing that would happen.
Everton that we can then this is an interesting one I mean we're talking about United fans being a little unhappy with their business everton fans are absolutely furious.
Part of it's because they sold and die who's brilliant and obviously got rid of better who wasn't brilliant but didn't bring in another forward they very nearly sold Armstrong to non forest in fact they'd agree to 40 million pound deal.
The fans but nearly had a riot in their game against Bournemouth protest David Moise came out you know solidarity who's on the picket lines criticizing the owners the freakhead family who also own Roma.
It's a family office probably well fund and yeah all is not happy at the hill Dickinson stadium.
Would you make your everton at the moment.
It's funny because they got some interesting players and some quite enjoyable players.
Greenish back on loan.
Greenish got back on loan is good he's a good player at that level for them.
I saw the replies to the club announcing Greenish had returned on loan and they were just furious and I was like sort of viewing an isolation.
What the hell is this is a fan base unhappy with bringing in Jack relish on loan for another year.
He's a really good player but obviously it's the context of the rest of the window they're unhappy about the Armstrong situation.
So I didn't even know how good Harrison Armstrong was until until this but clearly he's a top player or that it's a player they think has got massive potential.
So yeah fine but the squad is squad so weird.
Brennan Johnson is a player I don't understand.
I've never particularly rated him or understood what he offers but I think he's actually better than Dwight McNeil who they swapped in for.
I mean Dwight McNeil is a winger who he's got all these deals at Premier League level.
He's barely scored a goal ever. I mean I don't understand Dwight McNeil.
Him and Brennan Johnson offer similar but both quite poor output and then Tyrie George completely unproven from Chelsea.
Good at the weekend.
Yeah I've seen him in flashes look really good but I've never seen him put a whole performance together and then Hayden had me.
I would have happily had as part of our squad and part bar midfield rebuild if he was the third up and coming midfield.
Yeah he's already looks good actually. I think he's slighted in really well and yeah it looks like a first time.
Yeah he's technically superb isn't he Hayden?
He's passing brilliant quality.
It was the defensive side of his game that was a concern I guess I mean he's not playing the sixth role and playing more of an eight role.
With James Garner providing some security then that could look like a good midfield for Everton.
Yeah I think they just don't have the depth do they I think that's part of their problem.
Yeah and they will have problems scoring goals. Garner was apparently subject of a bid from where Chelsea was it?
Who like were trying to get him I don't know how much truth is in that because Chelsea linked with every player on the planet.
But it's good they kept him I think there would be real problems at Everton and they didn't.
I don't see a relegation season happening but you can see where they're just like a bit short.
Moys will be enough to prevent a relegation battle I think because he's know how that club his ability to manage those games especially at home where they just edge it against the fellow mid table side or they see off at one of the really promoted teams they they make their quality
as they tell they make quite a solid back for count as well you know Tarkovski is a good lower half the Premier League player like he just is really solid pick foods is a good enough keeper for Everton for sure and I've always thought he could have potentially gone to a higher level but hasn't done.
So I think he's he's super solid as well.
So there is sort of it's it's a boring half the was very boring half the off the squads interesting slash confusing.
I think there a team that we should be beating really if you look at the two squads but you don't know whether you're not going to produce a whole performance or a second half against it's which performance.
It would be nice wouldn't it for the momentum and the confidence to get a solid win here and feel good about it just putting a good performance.
And second half against it was very good and like the you know what you're not even one at the moment I think they caught a little bit between two things where a lot of the players are they feel like players who are very good on on the counter our defense needs to sit a bit deeper especially if we talked about Harry McGuire don't really have attacking full backs.
And yet's character wants to morph the side to character ball which is possession oriented little more deliberate in build out not not going vertical all of the time which is not what a lot of the players a lot of the players are there for.
And then I'm a 10 harg who did want to be very vertical and so I feel like there's just a little bit that could be some TV problems in that that just when.
Yeah well it's only to 10 harg is it all on to Ali when he tried to transform it.
10 harg at the early days of the in the in that bread for the feet and the bright and the feet at home but what do you think you do with the midfield for this one because obviously team of tealamans and may we thought would probably wouldn't start together very much did start and look pretty good against it switch especially in the second half I mean may new was unbelievable was need just like he's one of the first names on the team she now so it's almost who you play with him.
And I guess his tealamans or Santos do you think you'll go back to Santos for ever to know a.
Yeah except tealamans played well against it switch as well I mean the tealamans an interesting one because I mean obviously as has been pointed out he's not you know exactly a sprinter is he he does a lot running he did the most kilometers against whole it's not like you know he just doesn't do those sprints make me knew is added a bit to his game I don't he's had added a lot of strength to his game no one's pushing him off the ball anymore I don't know where these added speed Santos is maybe a little bit quicker but I wouldn't say.
That's really his belabers quick so it is interesting thinking about the pairings in this midfield will you go to Santos is something just a bit more security there than than tealamans he can't drop me newer after no how good he was now any provides such an all round game I mean you'd like him in some senses to be a bit further up the pitch than he he was at times or could be it was certainly against.
It's some well back in the hammer in days where when occasionally I'm in play him or the ten hard days where he was tended to sit a bit deeper all at that nice intricate football that he plays and the fact that he's so good and understanding where other players are and small spaces and the build up and stuff like that I think it is really he's kind of pretty important to how caretable should look right so and he was adding the switches to his game I look at the past map like you played quite a bit more.
I think a lot of like diagonal balls and I think that's what we're looking for from him like more progressive passing don't just play backwards where's the forward ball when you can do it and that's what I like so I don't know what you'll do yeah I think it will be Santos I don't know whether I'm going to let your constant use of the term carrot ball go without questioning or are we is that just something we're going to we're going to roll with and see if it sticks for the rest of the season.
It's it's a shortcut. I don't mind. Ammo ammo ball or ammo ball was pretty awful. Ten hard ball didn't work at all. I feel like there needs to be more like variation of like I don't know. Just something different over the word balls stuck on the end of some words name but all right. This is where we are in 2026.
Apparently that's that's brainstorm some names we can we can give carrot ball in the in the future drop in the comments tell us what should we call this. Yeah.
I think we know we need a name for it in terms of stylistically.
I think stylistically as well there's there's games when it's going to happen and there's games where we'll see less of it and I actually don't mind that I'd like it I'd like us to be a bit more flexible with it and.
I think I think we are horses for courses and the selection will be horses for courses never to the waves are very different prospectives which are home.
And that's why you know it's probably harsh to drop tealamans it's probably harsh to.
To drop any of the forward players as well but I would be thinking about sesco to start especially against talk off skis to give some to worry about I'm not sure I like who near is that as the nine so fan there the two changes I maybe would make bring in the in Santos and.
Sessco just to make it look more like a structured side where with a focal point and with a bit more balance in midfield.
Yeah I agree with that I can sesco get an hour it's funny it games against everton were kind of.
The two real contrast last season weren't they because we had that one at home where we're playing its 10 men and lost that was like the.
Absolutely the dear of amarem just so dreadful I mean I think 99% of the night fans would be had to be quite happy with firing amarem after that just just firing.
Fuck off this is never going to work.
Playing wing backs against 10 men still playing through the back against 10 men like just change something puts put some more people up front red.
Yeah it's dreadful and then you had the win at hill Dickinson last season it was like what five or six games into.
Carrix time.
And they they're under the caution a little bit and then those sesco scored that break away goal and one there.
And you're like oh something's happening here with caric I mean I think they were undefeated that point anyway but it was like a real tough backs against the wall snatch a wind type game and.
Kind of defined a lot of that sort of momentum.
And I don't know what to make of what will get out of everton is obviously an angry crowd at the moment I mean they're.
The perennially angry every day they have been since they won the league in night night five.
The biggest boos in the league.
Yeah they just love boos in their own players.
And they lost a lot of games at hill Dickinson last season so it wasn't the kind of goodest and fortress or something like that and I think that's probably true of a I mean this is.
I don't know one of these football truisms isn't it I don't know if there's any data but like clubs moving to new ground it takes a little while to like it get to use.
You feel like home to feel yeah.
I think so I mean and then you can get some really stark changes like white heart lane to whatever the new stadium is called it can be more different what
I mean it was like really old school and some of the you know the corridors in the concoctions were about the width of a human you know very claustrophobic and stuff like that and then you've got this brand new hyper modern stadium now.
And then Arsenal Arsenal's the one because I think it was beautiful.
I mean it was just such an atmospheric unique ground and then they've got this absolutely soulless corporate bowl.
Now it's just dreadful.
I'm right. The spurs one gets regular praise that I've not been yet but I'd love to go but it is quite funny that their home record there is especially the last year or two.
It's just absolutely disgraceful like they just can't win at home in the car win at all spurs are just such a.
I mean that's why to take about to what we started talking about that's why you don't want to go have passive in the window and just.
By players like a kid on FIFA you know and that's that's looks kind of like what spurs are doing the boasting a bit boasting before the new castle game the guy on the PA boasting or we've spent and spend and we're back and.
Lads it's taught them.
Roberto dispersi yeah exactly.
The Army alright well that was it the windows done we can stop talking about transfers now and talk about actual football.
Although one more piece of content just a pre-plug it I think we're doing a financial breakdown in Jamie about exactly what United have spent and how and what's left and break down of some of the other clubs spending.
But on the pitch big game against everything this weekend need the momentum it would be really nice I mean really nice after a mixed bag of two results so far and then it's sabba champions league nights week from today.
What a team what a team to welcome us back into the jump is lead with.
