Nintendo Sues US Government for Illegal Tariffs

0:00On March 6th, Nintendo of America has filed a lawsuit against the United States government to recover money paid on tariffs imposed during the Trump administration. The company claims these tariffs were illegal following a Supreme Court ruling that struck them down. The suit targets refunds from duties collected on imports. The Supreme Court decision came on February 20th, finding that President Trump could not use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to justify the tariffs. These measures affected imports from nearly all countries and brought in more than $200 billion so far. Nintendo names several top officials from the Treasury, Homeland Security, Trade Representative's Office, Customs and Border Protection, and Commerce. Departments in the complaint. Dozens of states and over 1,000 companies, including big names like Costco and FedEx, have also sued over the same issue. This has argued the tariffs hurt American taxpayers and importers unfairly.
