Nigerian Singer Dies from Snake Bite at 24

Nigerian singer Ifunanya Nguangene has died at the age of 24 after a snake bit her while she slept in her Abuja home. The rising star, who competed on the voice Nigeria back in 2021, passed away on January 31 from complications of the bite. She woke up in pain and was rushed to the federal medical center nearby. Those shared online show a snake handler pulling what people call the cobra from her place as friends, raised the alarm. Her choir, the Emma Musso choir, shared the sad news on Facebook, calling her a talent on the verge of big things. Friends told BBC Africa they were heartbroken, describing her as humble, smart and incredibly gifted. Doctors at the hospital fought hard to save her, giving resuscitation, fluids, oxygen and polyvalent antivenom right away. Sadly, it was not enough, and she did not pull through. Nguangene had bright plans ahead, including a solo tour later this year.
