The NHL trade deadline came and went this year, with far fewer deals than in past seasons. Still, a handful of smart moves stood out, creating clear winners among the teams. The St. Louis Blues Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks each made plays that boosted their futures, whether for playoffs or long-term rebuilds. The Blues now focused on rebuilding under General Manager Doug Armstrong, cashed in big. They sent veteran Ford, Braden Shen to the New York Islanders and Defensemen, Justin Falk to the Detroit Redwings. In return, they grabbed first round draft picks and more for both players who are in their 30s and past peak form. It sets St. Louis up nicely for years ahead.
