NFL Drops Doubleheaders, Embraces Wild Game Schedule

On April 1st, the NFL just announced they're killing off those Monday night football

double headers for good, going back to one primetime game to wrap up the week.

At their league meetings this week, Azek Han Schroeder confirmed it'll be a single match

up from here on out with those five extra games getting shuffled into other slots.

They started the double headers five years ago in their Disney deal, thinking more football

outside Sunday afternoons with real fans.

Fans were sometimes staggered by three hours or even simultaneous, mostly early in the

season like weeks two, four, six, seven, and the finale in week 18 last year.

Fans weren't feeling it, though too much choice led to conflicts, and viewership didn't

hold up like the league hoped, even with smart time zone tweaks.

For East Coast Central and West Coast crowds, right now, they're figuring out where to

slot those five games as the schedule comes together for the mid-May release.

No big shift in their overall game plan, they're still pushing boundaries, expect more

wild experiments like a Wednesday night opener or Thanksgiving evaction, and by 2026 games

on every day except Tuesdays, too.
