NFL Announces 33 Compensatory Draft Picks

These extra selections go to teams that lose top free agents or key minority staff to other clubs. Teams earn them based on a formula that weighs player contracts and roles. A big change came in 2020 when the Rooney Rule expanded to include front office hires. The lines picked up a third rounder after the Jets hired their defensive coordinator Aaron Glinn last year. Minnesota, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh also landed third round comp picks for losing quarterbacks in linemen in free agency. The Vikings got the earliest one at pick number 97 overall. Meanwhile, the Steelers, Eagles, and Ravens each received four picks, the most of any team, while the 49ers added three in round four.
