New Taco Roos Opening in Raleigh

A new Taco Roo's location, the Taco spin-off from Cookout, is showing real signs of life at 1221 New Bern Avenue, right next to him. Existing Cookout. Branding on signs and a digital menu board has gone up, marking progress after years of waiting. Cookout, famous for its huge milkshake selection, runs Taco Roo's as a sister brand with spots already open in Wilmington and Thomasville, North, Carolina. This one would be among the first in the triangle area, and the old Roo's chicken sign is still hanging there, saying coming soon, even after nearly, three years. Locals have buzzed about this spot since rumors started back in 2019, when the owner filed plans for it at the former KFC building. The property changed hands to a Cookout link company a few years ago, and it briefly housed a cookout before sitting mostly empty.

1:00Recent checks show the drive-through digital menu is powered on with a welcome sign for Taco Roo's above it, though the full menu is not displaying yet. The lineup includes tacos with beef, chicken, shrimp, or fish for $3 to $4 each, plus burritos, nachos, and quesadillas in that same price range. Permits are also out for turning a closed subway on Western Boulevard into another Taco Roo's, and word is, it might head to Charlotte too. Keep an eye on New Burn Avenue.
