1:01Our Friday story is especially for our premium subscribers only. Joseph is a premium member from Perth in Australia, and he would like a story with a capybara and a cat. Joseph opened his front door, expecting it to be the postman. You can probably imagine his surprise when he saw a capybara standing there. It was stood on its rear legs and clutching a piece of paper. Uh, hello, said Joseph. It was only then that he realised that the piece of paper was the one that had been pinned to the gate post. Are you here about the cat sitting? I most certainly am, said the capybara sternly.

2:02He thrust the piece of paper forward so that Joseph could see it clearly. It is an outrage. How can you people promote such a thing? What? Cat sitting? Ask Joseph, fearing he'd missed the point. Indeed, cat sitting confirmed the capybara. I cannot support my fellow hairy mammals being sat on. No, no, you've got it all wrong, replied Joseph, suddenly understanding the mistake. We're not looking for someone to sit on our cat. We want someone to sit with our cat while we're away at the weekend. Ah, well, that's different, said the capybara, screwing the piece of paper into a ball. So, what would be in it for me? We'd pay you, said Joseph. Ah, well, I'm not sure that would work.

3:04I can't seem to get to grips with money, said the capybara, as he patted his hairy hips. No pockets, you see. We could feed you, Joseph offered. In that case, the name's Dara. Dara, the capybara, said the capybara. What time do I start? On Friday afternoon, Dara returned to Joseph's house to begin his weekend of cat sitting. While Joseph's mum packed their things into the car, Joseph showed Dara around the house pointing out where the cat food was, where the litter tray was kept, and where to find the guest bedroom. But there was one thing that Joseph couldn't do. I can't seem to find our cat, he said. But here be around somewhere, I'm sure. When you do see him, make sure he gets something to eat. And sit with him, said Dara, with a raised eyebrow.

4:07That's the important bit, remember? Oh yes, said Joseph, as he heard his mum call him from outside. Look, it's time for me to go, help yourself to whatever you want to eat, see you Sunday. And with that, the capybara found himself alone in the house. Dara looked around the kitchen and rubbed his hands together. Right, he said. I'd best get started. Cubbards were pulled open, drawers were midged in, and the fridge ransacked. The hob blazed, the oven baked, the microwave pinged, the air fryer hummed, and the smoothie maker word. Dara even discovered an old waffle iron on a shelf and fired that up too. By the time it was dark outside, Dara had pretty much eaten everything.

5:07He was sat at the table, rubbing his very full belly, when it occurred to him that he was still all alone. Well, this really won't do, he said to himself. How can I sit with the cat if the cat's not here? He hopped down from the chair and wobbled towards the kitchen door. There was a pet door situated near the bottom edge, so Dara poked his head through the flap and shouted, cat! With the sun now set, it wasn't easy to see all that far. He tried calling again, then gave up. Well, this really won't do, he said again as he stood back up. As he did so, the flap opened inwards and a black and white head appeared. Did you call?
