Every day, excessive delays and denials from big insurers keep patients from accessing the care they need. And when care is urgent, these delays can be disastrous. These practices cost billions in wasteful spending, driving up costs for American families. But while big insurers put up barriers, America's hospitals and health systems are in your corner, navigating endless reviews and appeals to get you the care you need when you need it most. It's time to curb these harmful practices and put the focus back on patients. Brought to you by the Coalition to Strength in America's Health Care. The Cincinnati Bengals explored a tag and trade option, but obviously found there was

not a lot of interest and they did the wise thing. They let them go to market. Now Trey Hendrickson is freed from Cincinnati. He bid goodbye to the Cincinnati Bangle fans on Instagram. Thank the organization, the city for everything he's moving on. He will not be back in Cincinnati. Both sides have been through a lot together. He will move on. He will be one of the top defensive free agents available and he'll get to choose where he wants to go. There will be a lot of teams that are interested. He lives in Florida in the off season. That would be ideal. Don't know that that would happen, but there'll be plenty of teams that have Trey Hendrickson near the top of their free agent board to add a pass rusher. Out of fake Williams, looking down field, watching down field, going for it all, and there's Colin Beers-Winett, DJ Moore. Yeah, a little bit of everything on a Wednesday night, Bryce Eldridge doing some nice work

getting a two RBI double on our television screen. Adam Shepard talking about Trey Hendrickson and the Bengals letting him walk. And then of course, what just happened within the last hour, DJ Moore traded from the Los, sorry, the Chicago Bears to the Buffalo Pills. Are they working to finalize the trade? I should say it is a Thursday. It is poppin silver. We got JD and once again, we got young Tony DJ tone with the LaRussell, nothing like it. Here's my question for young Tony to start the show today. You think we're getting a second year of nothing like it, or does that just kind of the stench of 81 and 81 now? I think it does for sure. I think I heard rumor around the street. The streets are saying that we're going to get something different this year. From LaRussell. From LaRussell, from the Giants in terms of their new slogan. Whoa, JD. Well, JD, where are we at with the Giants slogan in LaRussell, maybe retiring nothing like it after one valiant year? Yeah, LaRussell is fine. I would move on personally from nothing like it. That would be, I think, a sharp move. If I had not heard that, I actually was under the impression that it was going to continue.

But again, stand by. Big news ahead. But I think it's the right decision if that changes. I know sometimes teams keep those themes for longer than one year, but that's one I would retire. Yeah, I think so, especially with the perfect time to do it, right? This is the second year of Buster Posey, but it's kind of year one in the sense of it's his guy. He's got the Raphael Devers trade that he made, like his imprints of last year. He was sort of, this was the building blocks. Last year was kind of year zero, year 0.5. This year is sort of like year one, year one and a half coming up. So I think this is an opportune time to move on from the slogan. Maybe we'll take in some submissions, Tony V, era, yeah, I mean, you're just, you're just a Tony. You're just biased on that. Tony V, era. Yeah, we got a Tony V, era. Yeah, I think we'll be taking slogan submissions here on this Thursday as we sort of sort through everything. And so, you know, just kind of getting into everything. It's going to be a big, big, big NFL free agency day on the show. I guess just a quick note on last night with Bryce Eldridge, JD, I mean, as far as the

storylines for spring training, we're 20 days away, still a lot to unfold. But I think the fact that Raphael Devers is nursing a tight hamstring and Eldridge is getting more opportunity, whether or not he could or should be the opening D.H. is probably the singular item I'm going to be paying the most attention to. Not as much with the scores, even the pitching, we know the rotation has question marks. But again, with the guys in the lineup being in and out and you don't know who you're facing on a given day, I can't react too much to ERA or strike zone command or any of these small details. Like once you get into the regular season, that's when you can really pay attention. But the reason that I'm fix it on the Bryce Eldridge part of it and why it's refreshing to see how hard he can hit the ball like he did on that two RBI double is, you do wonder if that's going to be a guy who's there from night number one, when you're taking on Max Fried and the New York Yankees all alone, primetime Netflix opening night. Yeah, I think it is one of the big storylines. If not the biggest storyline, it's does he make the team and what role and how well is

he playing? The bullpen you could factor into that as well as they try to sort through it. And I know they're dealing with some injuries and still trying to figure that out. The Giants could be pretty good as we talked about yesterday in a bunch of different ways. But if the bullpen is the weakest link on the team, then that would have the potential to really set backs in other areas that may actually be improved. And so that's something worth monitoring, but that's a little bit more in the weeds and comparison to top prospect, big time, power hitter, having the ability to impact this Giants team here moving forward. And so I do think it is a big story. And I think there's a lot of Giants fans out there that just want to see them play and don't want to see it be debated whether or not he's on the team or not come three weeks from last night when the Giants end up taking on the Yankees.

So, but yeah, he's hitting the ball hard. He's getting opportunities to get out there and show what he can do. But I think if the Giants are going to be the best version of themselves in 2025, I think Bryce Eldridge is going to have to be a big part of it. And maybe in some one of a surprise, growing up quicker than maybe some would anticipate. I think if we look back and it's July and August, and it's like, wow, the Giants are among the pleasant surprises in the major leagues, I think a big part of that is going to be the fact that the Bryce Eldridge is a factor and is a factor this year, not necessarily kind of waiting for, you know, mid or toward the end of this year and really next year to have the breakout type season. Yeah, look, and we've seen sort of a highs and lows thus far in a small sample size. And this isn't five games to go in spring training. We got 18 and 20 days until the season starts. And so with Eldridge, I think the OPS looks really nice.

Obviously the exit velocity is something that was going around hit one 13 last night. But then he's also had the swing and miss. He's got seven strikeouts in 19 at bats so far. And so you sort of gotten a little bit of everything as far as both sides of the spectrum. And then at first base, made an error against Team USA was listening to that on the way home. Also showed some really nice flashes and how if you can figure it out and really build up that coordination at first and be a guy that you can mix in with Rafael Devers, all the sudden that kind of six foot seven frame could really go a long way, not to mention the arm and the former pitcher you got right there too. So we're all taking new giant slogans to see if they can then move on from nothing like it. Five we know already saying how about middle of the road by the pretenders? Hey, come on. We're trying to get out of this. We're trying to get out of the zone. It's a good call. But I want something new and I'm actually going to throw it to speaking of songs. How about Jerry Rafferty's right down the line, huh? That's right, young tone. How about right down the line? We don't talk about the giants hitting Oppo, go in the other way, all the lefties going

down the left field line, all the righties hitting down the right field line. Give me a couple of doubles that you're making the corner outfielders chase down. How about right down the line, JD? You go for that one. Yeah, I think we could do better. Okay. I think we could do better. By the way, love the song, it's actually, that's actually an all time favorite JD song. Like that's an all time JD classic, you know, you, it's a, it's a good vibe song, but I don't, I think we could do better in terms of a slogan. Hey, no, that's okay. I was going for adequate, but we want to go for great. And I certainly was not going to be the one who's smarter than all the listeners to come up with our money slogan here in 2026 808 K and B are is the number to join the converse conversation. We had a trade go down in NFL circles. The bears are working to finalize a deal to send veteran wide receiver DJ more to the Buffalo bills like the 49ers. The Buffalo bills were very much in need of getting some help on the wide receiver front

given Josh Allen, some more trusting weapons. And so we'll talk about the contest giveaway coming back Bay FC tickets still continuing through the end of the week. By the way, I want to be wearing mine out there had paypal come 11 days from now 20 days from now. We have got the start of the giant season as they take on the Yankees zero days from

now we've got another warriors game as they are heading to Houston to take on Kevin Durant and the rockets tonight and a few days from now we're going to have the beginning of the legal tampering period and then eventually a lot of free agency signings. But as we've learned JD we already got moves taken place and just because there is an official period of when negotiating can begin that doesn't exclude something like a trade J more the veteran receiver for the Chicago Bears is headed to Buffalo and I do have to wonder Buffalo like the 49ers was certainly a team that was going to be and still probably will be aggressive on the wide receiver market whether that be through the draft or free agency does this perhaps open up some doors for the Niners to maybe get a couple of guys that would have been tough or otherwise. Yeah, I'm not sure that it does. I think to your point Buffalo is going to be a team that I think is going to be looking for multiple receivers and more will just be one of them. It's interesting. The other thought that I had with Chicago moving on from DJ Moore was does that mean they

could potentially be interested in Juwan Jennings and I know they're going to have a bunch of different different ways they're going to go. I just kind of picture Juwan on a bunch of these you know possible teams that the 49ers could wind up battling with the physicality standpoint of the way the Bears definitely try to play. I think that could be something that could be a potential fit there. We'll see what the market shakes out with as it relates to that. But yeah, the bills get get their guy and I think the bills are still searching for more and I think the 49ers are definitely going to be as we've talked about the last couple of days in that mix to be looking to really really improve themselves at that position in a major, major way. No question. So 808 KBR is the number two join the conversation and the Juwan Jennings factor. You do wonder about Chicago. I almost wonder if they're just going to try to move forward with the young core that they have in the same way. And I'm not trying to claim that anyone's going to be the next Jackson Smith and Jigba

of this year, right? But Seattle made a big decision to move off of DK Metcalf, Trayton to Pittsburgh and then JSN completely flourished as the number one in Chicago with their quarterback and Caleb Williams with a functional run operation and offense under Ben Johnson in that first year. They really committed to guys that fit that offense and a lot of young players helping lead the way. Now Deandre Swift is a little bit more of a veteran, but you went with a late round running back in Kyle Menongai, yet your second year quarterback in Caleb Williams, he had a rookie tight end in Colston, Loveland, who at the beginning of the season was looking like, wow, they probably should have taken Tyler Warren. He was the more productive player and then Loveland completely took off there in the second half of the season. Then you got Luther Burton as a rookie wide receiver who completely carved up the Niners on that epic Sunday night football game right after Christmas. And then on top of that, you've got Roma Dune Zey who has been plagued by some injuries in his first couple of years, but really fast player and the type of guy that could maybe flourish into a larger role.

So they're really leaning into the youth. I guess the question becomes in light of maybe Jawan Jennings. Could they go after another veteran? They could be a little bit more contractually suited for their needs that could be a nice supplementary piece for the team. Yeah, I think Mike Evans is the other name that also pops into my mind and anytime we talk about the 49ers and looking to upgrade that position, I think of Mike Evans, but I also think with DJ Morco and Buffalo, are they more or less likely to be in on somebody like Mike Evans because I think they were going to be a team that would have been potentially attractive, the ability to play obviously with Josh Allen. I don't think the Bears would be in play obviously for somebody like that. But with the Bill's desire to really upgrade at the position as they've already done, does that maybe change the interest level in getting more as far as maybe adding Evans

and the market could potentially change there that might help the 49ers? How much of an addition do you think this is for Josh Allen because with DJ Morco, he's always been a productive player. He had success with Joe Brady when they were together in Carolina before he was traded to Chicago. And I think for Josh Allen, you know, you look at who he was throwing to at the very end of the season. He had a bunch of guys who were either injured or not on a team and Brandon Cokes was the guy on the famous play that looked like a catch was ruled in reception. I mean, I don't know necessarily what DJ Morco is going to be in terms of overall season long production, but to his credit with Chicago, he was incredibly clutch as you heard there in the opening package and for Josh Allen, even getting someone like DJ Moran average day, still a massive upgrade from a lot of his other targets outside of those tight ends. Well, it's, I mean, really, I mean, when has he had a legitimate, you know, top flight receiver since digs, I mean, I, the, the answer's got to be no, you know, I mean, he's

got to be the only guy that they've had, right? I mean, it just, so I, they've had some good secondary, you know, receivers, yeah, I guess because I guess when Gabe Davis is at his peak, that was with digs, right? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, he was good. But so I mean, I don't know. I just, I just kind of look at it, it gives him that one guy. And I think if you have the one and, and they may be looking for more, but, but you give a guy like Josh Allen, the one, you know, major target to be able to make big plays. I think it definitely opens up his ability. They've become really, really, really, really dependent on Josh Allen. It's been well chronicled and they still will be, but I think, you know, lessening some of the burden in terms of the talent that he has to play with is, is only going to help. You know, while we're on the topic of free agent wide receivers, I also saw a report yesterday that Rashid Shaheed and the Seattle Seahawks still having some impasse in terms of negotiating a new deal. I had just kind of assumed that it would be likely they would want to bring him back

given how important that trade was. And really, if you think about it, Rashid Shaheed alone had probably the most significant play of the entire season when the Rams are up 13 or sorry, 30 to 14 on that Thursday night football game, they get down into the red zone Seattle, Donald throws an interception. You're thinking, okay, same old narrative. Here we go. Then the Rams have the ball deep in their own territory. They punt and Rashid Shaheed with that punt return and then other things happen to like we talked to Chris Rose yesterday about the Zach Ward's pass and how strange that two-point conversion was when it seemed like it failed. But Rashid Shaheed with that punt return ultimately had the pivotal point that turned the tide of the NFC. It got Seattle a first round by it gave them home field over that next meeting with the LA Rams and we don't need to remind our listeners here what it was like in that playoff game. He pretty much had that game over in 13 seconds with a kickoff return alone. Yeah, they they are forced to make some difficult decisions here. I mean, they they really are and they could lose some guys.

I mean, I know the immediate reaction is always when a team wins the Super Bowl, especially when a team dominates in the Super Bowl the way that Seattle did as surprising a team to get to the finish line as they were overall. There is this rush to think, oh, they're going to be great for a long time, right? But the truth is and I think Seattle in some ways is navigating a little bit of a different life than a lot of other Super Bowl winning teams have had to because they because it was so unexpected, right? And because they have all these players that are at different points in terms of their ability to be free and explore opportunities and also different players that are up to basically get paid at a moment in which the Seahawks are right there at the top of the league and at the top of everybody's mind. So it kind of makes me wonder in a way as great as Mike McDonald is as great as that

defense was against everybody other than the Rams and the offense was able to function and Darnold came up big in big moments when needed at different points in the season. It kind of makes me wonder what this thing is going to look like and of course you trust John Schneider to retool it and to keep it rolling and all of those things. But I just wonder if we might look up here in a week and Seattle is a lot more depleted than maybe people would have anticipated because of just the timing of the surprise nature of their their win in conjunction with where certain players are in their roster in terms of their contracts and the time to get paid. Well, it's interesting, right? Because usually it's about capitalizing before you have to pay the quarterback and Sam Darnold was one of those cases where he got the Baker Mayfield like contract a veteran quarterback who you sign for not a rookie level deal, but certainly not a market resetting deal or a top flight franchise quarterback kind of deal.

He went three years 100 and 0.5 million, but Devon Weatherspoon who was the best player on their defense in that Super Bowl up for an extension Jackson Smith and Jigba up for an extension. He's going to get a lot of money too. And so you look up and down the roster of Seattle's free agents. I think it's widely believed that they're going to lose Kenneth Walker, the Super Bowl MVP, even though Zach Charbonne is recovering from a torn ACL. You've got Rick Wallen on that list. You've got Boya Mafe, who I know you really like as an ed rusher. You've got Rashid Shaheed, as we just mentioned, safety Kobe Bryant and then another corner in Josh Job. And so not that there's a bunch of star players up and down that list, but that's a good pool of pretty productive players on a team that yes, they had a lot of depth and really as far as that defensive particular, it was really complete top to bottom. That's still a pretty good sample size though of players that were productive for a team that want a Super Bowl and has to play in a really brutal division next year. Yeah. And again, it's just we'll see how it all shakes out.

They're not necessarily going to lose everybody, but they're not necessarily going to keep everybody either. And I think it's going to be interesting to see who leaves, who stays and a team that really was the sum of all the parts in being able to win a Super Bowl with great coaching and all of that has the potential to look more different, I think, next year than people think. And I think that the margins for trying to repeat in that type of environment, I think can be can be all the more tricky. Again, as much as people want to annoy somebody as the, you know, the team that's going to be around for years to come, the truth is most often, especially teams that don't have the elite quarterback and no shade at Sam Darnold. He's a Super Bowl winner, but Sam Darnold is not the traditional Super Bowl winning quarterback. And so the teams that don't have that quarterback, you know, that holds them up in terms of, you know, just just getting them to the playoffs every year and giving themselves a chance

is maybe less likely to be able to repeat at the, at the level that somewhat otherwise expect. All right. So here's my question at eight away K and B.R. before we get to Matt Barrows at the end of the hour. Top flight free agents, give me two names that you absolutely want to see B members of the San Francisco 49ers as we have a lot to sort through with the legal tampering period just around the corner after the weekend and a lot of signings coming. You get two names on the market. You can think of it in whatever context you want. You don't have to care about the money they spend or maybe you do have something like value in the salary cap in mind. You could think of it positionally. You could think of it offense defense, but give me your names and let's discuss some of ours when we come on back and then we'll get to Matt Barrows who's been floating around a handful of guys that could be decent fits and that he believes the Niners are in on as we got free agency coming up. It's pop on silver with JD on these sports leader. So he's bringing it out at the five yard line across the 20 build a field 30.

Just drop in. Please play responsibly 1-800-AMBLER. All right, Papa and Silver, we'll talk to Matt Barrow's coming up in the following segment. The question I am throwing your way with legal tampering right around the corner and official

free agency next week in the NFL. Give me the names you want to see the most. I'm saying two names doesn't have to be one offense one defense. Doesn't have to be something that you're freaking out about the salary cap. Just who do you want to see in a 49ers jersey? JD will go out to you in just a moment, but the first text we got coming in is from the 209 and 209 is thinking 49ers are not that far away from being a Super Bowl team. So screw it. You're going all in. You're going to the top of the line. The name's listed Raven Center Tyler Lindervom and Bengals, Ed Drusher, Trey Hendrickson. The big swings the top of the list here of this athletic 150. Well I wonder with Hendrickson specifically and this is what I want to get into a little bit with Matt Barrow's and ask him are the 49ers better positioned to go after older players in free agency. I think you look at Hendrickson is a name that pops up there and I think he was number

one on the athletic top 150 list at all positions. He's gone through Mike Evans, I mean he would be my wide receiver target in free agency. I do like Jalen Nailer. I beyond that I think I'm not a Romeo dobs guy. I think Alec Pierce is too pricey. I don't think Wandaile Robinson is good enough. So Mike Evans is the, but you also don't want to be a team that quickly appears to be too old either. But I just wonder are the 49ers more in their financial situation willing to go shorter term deals with some veteran type players as opposed to maybe some of those guys in free agency that are going to command more money but are going to be closer to their prime. In essence would you rather do two and 51 for a 33 year old Mike Evans or would you rather

do four and 61 for a 26 year old in Romeo dobs who may be a less consistent and more frustrating player than what you're going to get for Mike Evans. So those are the questions that I'm really interested in. But Hendrickson specifically is the one that I kind of wonder because we all know they want to get another edge and he is somebody that is going to cost a lot. But in total in terms of the amount of time that you would commit to him, it wouldn't necessarily be as much straight up cash going out the doors as opposed to if you're trying to sign somebody younger in free agency that was going to get a lot more money spread out over a greater, greater time. It's an interesting call on the tray Hendrickson front. I am also in on Mike Evans as a wide receiver and when I was talking about this with Walter he goes, okay, he is a little bit older, which is fair.

I also think this might be a time where if Evans decided he wanted to move on from Tampa and we know he's won a Super Bowl there. He's the only Jersey he's ever worn. He's got a great relationship with that front office in the franchise. But if he wanted to go somewhere else and play for someone like Kyle Shanahan, this could also be a value situation. And I'm not just talking about value contractually because he's still projected to get about $25 million a year. That's a lot. I also think there's value in yes, he is a little bit older, but the history would tell you in a Kyle Shanahan offense that rookie receivers, it takes a second. Debo Samuel wasn't exception and he wasn't used as a traditional receiver and much more of as a chess piece kind of guy, but Brandon, I you, it took a moment, Jacob Cowing. We heard was going to make a surge. He was injured all year. Jordan Watkins. Make one catch like this is not something new. And so the brand and I use situation is what it is. It is really, really unfortunate and kind of like how the trade Lance decision to make

that trade. Yes, you ended up recovering by getting another quarterback, but it didn't quite make up for the whole draft compensation and lack thereof to where it's still had a ripple effect. The brand and I use situation and the fact that that blew up in your face and a much shorter timeline, it left you with having to address the here and now of finding an X Y receiver a guy that you thought was going to be sticking around even with the bad injury he suffered. You thought, okay, well, if all things went well between the relationship of him and the organization, he could have come back at some point this year. And if not this year, certainly could have been a piece in 2027. So Mike Evans, you can sign them to a two year deal, right? Well, okay, he's going to be 35 in a couple of years and he's got a lot of football mileage on his body. But maybe by that point, you can find some other answers of guys who have been in your office that can build the trust with Shanahan to where whether it's this year's draft, whether it's guys that we haven't really seen getting that chance to flash. Maybe that's a chance where by the time Mike Evans has a little bit more over the hill.

Those other guys can start contributing and you can fulfill the job of your wish to get a little bit younger and faster and guys who can block around the edge, etc. Yeah, and I think it's interesting as much as I've kind of ruled Alec Pierce out. I know Albert Breer had put in his latest piece for SI going back a couple of days ago that he kind of linked the Niners to potentially having some interest in Pierce, which would be surprising to me, but he would absolutely fit the mold of younger and more dynamic. And again, it was a list of a bunch of teams and I mentioned that the Patriots and the bills were mentioned. Obviously, they've made the move for DJ Moore today, Patriots, the Raiders, possibly interested in them as well. So it's a lengthy list, but I think he would kind of fit that younger mold of if you're trying to find somebody that might be more of the true brand and IU replacement when

you thought you were going to be getting certain production out of him that now obviously you're not going to be getting. Yeah, and I mean, Alec Pierce, like the numbers he's put up over the past couple of seasons, they show really well. It's not that he hasn't been a productive player, but to be looked at and viewed as maybe the top wide receiver on the market, if Shanahan was able to get him in this offense, I have no doubt they could make him a productive player. I think my concern based on the reporting, everything I've read and the way he's been talked about is that some team is going to overpay for him by the standards of what the receiver market is. I don't want to see the 49ers be that team considering how many holes they have, even if wide receiver makes that list of those holes. Yeah, and I don't see that kind of goes back to the original point. I don't see the 49ers being that team, just knowing the history of how they operate and I would agree with you in that sense. So it kind of leads back to, okay, if you start to look at free agency, who are the guys

at that position. And of course, it winds up being Mike Evans, Alec Pierce, it winds up being Juan Jennings. So I think we both believe is going to be gone. Maybe there's a pleasant surprise there, and he winds up staying with the 49ers. I'm not as big a fan as we talked about yesterday with Romeo Dobbs, although I definitely understand why he kind of fits all of it. If he's younger, he's less expensive than the top end guys, he's more, I think, a fit in terms of the Kyle Shanahan philosophy of wanting to spread the ball around to a bunch of different players that might have, you know, one guy get the bulk of the touches one week and the bulk of the production and then the next week it's somebody completely different. I remember there were issues at one point where he missed a team meeting and I think he missed a practice and was frustrated about his role and then got benched for a game by Matt Laflore. Yeah, and so again, it's like that you have to factor that in, but I think it's just,

you know, a little bit, a little bit more of, you know, if you're not that top, top flight guy and maybe he thinks he is, you know, one of those top flight guys, then that has the potential to become a problem with him. I just don't, I don't like Romeo Dobbs as a move. I just don't, I understand again why the 49ers are linked to him and why it may look like the best potential move with youth and money going out and skill set, but I just think, you know, that's just not where I would go if I were, if I were the 49ers. I'm with you. If Romeo Dobbs does sign with the 49ers, then we're going to talk ourselves completely into it the other way. And I think Papa Walter and I will have to show up to a couple of shows all wearing 49ers guardian caps because that's going to be the Romeo Dobbs style for 2026. Uh, let's talk to Matt Barrows when we come on back about a lot of these free agents, targets. The name John Franklin Myers is certainly one on the radar.

Even Trey Hendrickson is somebody that Barrows talked about with Sim Cowell Cami on that most recent podcast, want to get his take NFL combine perspective and also with everything in mind of the Rams being really aggressive yesterday and going and getting a guy like Trent McDuffy. Now back to great papa and Greg silver on K and B are the sports leaders.

It's a happy Thursday here on pop and silver great to have JD sitting in with us and great to head out to the UMA guest line for the first time today Matt Barrows of the athletic a K and B are favorite and certainly one of ours, although we are going to have a rival Matt Mayoko on with us tomorrow, but we're all focused on today because any day news could break rumors can fly Matt Barrows could be all over it. So it is good to talk to you my friend. How are you? I'm great. I say just record mine today and replay that tomorrow when you're going to interview Matt Mayoko. He's not going to see anything. Okay. Yeah. So I think we have him scheduled Walter for 1150 tomorrow. So we just make it the Matt Barrows replay segment. Okay. Yeah. We'll bet. You know, I might be into it. I'll be like, dude, just go like watch old St. Mary's Highlights. Go rewatch less Saturday nights game against Gonzaga like take take the day off. It's okay. Oh, that would be all from the day for Matt Mayoko. Yeah. Go through some old St. Mary's NCAA highlights from from yesterday year.

You're full of dangerous good ideas. I should probably start bringing more weirdness by you and I think that we'll go a lot of places with this. But as far as the 49ers and everything that they got to sort through, let's start with Jawan Jennings because we've been all on the wide receiver room here in the first hour. We were kind of sorting through this reality yesterday where if Jawan Jennings was offered pretty similar contract by a different team and by the 49ers, would he be more inclined to leave anyway? I don't know if you have any intel on that situation. But do you feel like if San Francisco was willing to match or close to match the money of an outside offer that Jawan Jennings might just choose to walk anyway? Well, it's a great question. I mean, we talked to him on Locker clean out day in January and he got emotional when he talked about San Francisco and the team and the region and just having been here, having been drafted by the 49ers and coming up through that through the organization.

So I think that there is some pull, obviously they didn't come to an agreement on a longer term deal in August. So there's that as well. I mean, I think it depends on the team and the role. But the Titans seem like a good fit for him. He's from the state of Tennessee. He played at the University of Tennessee. He obviously knows the head coach there. That could be one where if it's sort of a tie, he might go to the new squad. But frankly, I don't know the answer to that. He's sort of been enigmatic in that way. But I just think it's the price. He knows what the 49ers are willing to pay for him, the 49ers obviously know that. And I think if that price tag gets higher than that number, I think he's out of here. Matt, as you look at the landscape of free agency and Tray Hendrickson was the name that

really kind of made me think of this, would you say that the 49ers are in a better position to go after some of the older players that might not get a command as much money going out or players that are closer to their to their prime? Is there a sweet spot there for the Niners maybe to go after some of the older guys? And is that something that they would find appealing? Because obviously you don't want to just become a team that's too old at the same time. Right. And that's something that they've been lary about the past two years. Obviously that was a big theme at this time a year ago. And they got rid of a lot of their 30 somethings that I'm only Collins and Leonard Floyd and some other names as well. Yeah. I mean, I think that as far as Tray Hendrickson, they are going to be one of the teams that at the very least are in the conversation. They're monitoring the situation.

How much is this guy going to cost? How many teams are interested, et cetera, et cetera. Again, if it gets too high, I don't think that they pull the trigger on him. But being in the conversation allows them to, you know, be there and be able to strike to swoop him up if that number is lower because of his age. Now, he's only a year removed from leading the league in SAC. So I think that his market's going to be pretty good. And, you know, he and Max Crosby are two guys who have been reliably good and mostly healthy, although recent years have been a little bit different for them. So I mean, their age is a concern, but they have such a strong track record that I don't think that that's going to really kind of dull the 49ers interest. Now, Max Crosby is going to get a lot of attention.

I mean, I read today that there could be as many as 20 teams in that. And, you know, that just, you know, sounds like a situation where, you know, it would get out of hand as far as what the compensation would be for a Max Crosby trade. The 49ers wouldn't can't, you know, match a lot of it. I mean, they've got the 27th pick, even if it's just the Raiders capitulate and say, give us the first round pick. The 49ers don't have a great first round pick. So there's any number of teams that could sort of outbid them in that regard. So that seems like more of a long shot, but, you know, that's the position that they're definitely going to be looking at both in the draft and in free agency. What do you think the interest level is between the 49ers and Debo Samuel and making some kind of a union happen? I mean, there was also the shatter from the players about that. I haven't heard the same shatter from team officials.

Debo Samuel would command what, you know, $10 million a year. I'm not exactly sure what his market is right now, but that's still a pretty big chunk of change. And they parted ways with him because, you know, they were having trouble separating on offense. They're why receivers were having trouble with press coverage. This is in in 2024 and Debo Samuel was part of that. And he didn't get faster or more elusive in his year in Washington. He had a good year in Washington. He wasn't spectacular, but he delivered a lot, especially in the first half of the season. I just don't think that, you know, unless you've got really great options at your other spots, I don't think that Debo Samuel fits your most pressing need. You need a veteran receiver who can get open, basically.

You know, I think that they feel like they have that and Ricky Perisol. Ricky Perisol hasn't been able to do it for any extensive period of time. So you need somebody who's more proven. I think that Romeo Dobbs, who could, you know, command maybe just a little bit more than Debo Samuel would be more of the 49ers fit there. Again, not a spectacular season. You're not counting on, you know, 1200 yards a year. But he does get open. He does go across the middle. I think that he'd be a better fit for the 49ers and Brock Perdi. Do you sense Matt that the 49ers believe they need multiple wide receivers, a free agent and a draft pick that can come in and play relatively quickly? Or is it more you got to get the one guy and then you got to have Ricky Perisol be healthy enough to stay on the field?

And then that would be enough with some of the other young players. Jordan Watkins, maybe for example, that would have to be able to show that he can stay healthy and maybe be productive as intriguing as his talent may be. Yeah, I would I would throw Jacob Cowling into the mix as well on that. I mean, they've spoken very highly about him in the past and obviously we didn't see any of him in 2025 because he had this reoccurring hamstring strain. But to answer your question, I think it's, you know, a combination of all three of those things. You know, it sounded from John Lynch at the combine like they would go, you know, draft. They would go free agency and they were, you know, hoping against hope that those three guys would step up. There's been a lot of talk about, you know, needing to add speed to this wide receiving core, the fastest ball carrier for the 49ers last year. One light was a linebacker. It was de winters on that pick six and Indianapolis.

These other guys, they couldn't crack 20 miles per hour, which is not, you know, a huge achievement. So there is a need for speed. Having said that, those three guys that were talking about pier saw, Cowling, Jordan Watkins. These are all fast guys, two of them ran sub four, four forties coming out in the draft, Cowling and and walk in. I think Cowling is definitely the fastest of that group. My point is that they have speed on the roster. It just hasn't been healthy speed. I think that, you know, maybe a combination of dobs and then using either the first round pick or the second round pick at a wide receiver. And the 49ers would feel good about the situation now. It's not going to be 2023 when you had Johan Jennings, you had Debo Samuel, you had Brandon Ayuk. But it would be more like, you know, what the Packers wide receiving core has been like a group of five guys that are all good, but none of them is a superstar.

And I, you know, I think that that is something that Kyle Shanahan can live with. If he feels like he's got that rotation of four or five guys who are dependable. Matt Barrow is kind enough to join us on the Uma guest line. So I did read the mock draft that you and Victor had and everybody hating on the short arms as you both have the same first round pick. But how do you think the Niners will ultimately go about creating the post Trent Williams plan? Because while I don't think that Trent Williams is going to be gone, I ultimately think they're going to work something out. This does need to be an offseason where you start thinking about the life after Trent Williams plan. And great offensive tackles don't go in the later rounds typically, but the Niners are also trying to fill holes they have now. And a first round tackle doesn't necessarily do that. So what do you think the solution is in the life after Trent? I don't know exactly, but I agree with you. I mean, there's a reason why he can bully them every time his contract comes up because there's nobody else on the roster.

They need him. And, you know, they don't really have anybody behind him right now. I think that they're going to resign often pleasant. He's an exclusive rights free agent, which is a bit of an oxymoron because he's not really a free agent. They have rights to him. So he'll likely sign a one year deal. I think that he's a good backup at right tackle. That's where he's most comfortable. He struggled when he had to step in for Williams last year at left tackle. So they would go into the season with that, that position sort of, you know, bear. They need to figure out a left tackle to play behind Trent Williams this year. And ideally, that's a left tackle who can one day take over for him. And, you know, they got Jamlyn Moore. What was that? 2021 in the fifth round.

And he just got, you know, last year got a big contract from the Kansas City Chiefs. You know, I think third or fourth round, you, you, you find somebody who you think could, you know, fill in for a game or two in 2026, but who has the potential to become that in 2029 in 2030 when Trent Williams is in his 40th decade and really thinking about retirement at that point. So I agree with you. I think this is the year to do that. Again, it's not a great draft for offensive tackles. It never seems to be a great draft for offensive tackles. But at some point, I think the 49ers need to identify somebody and get that guy. And if you have to trade up or maybe it's around earlier than you think, just having that heir apparent in the, in the facility learning behind Trent Williams.

I mean, that alone would be an asset. This seems like the year to do that. What do you think is the most likely outcome in terms of how the 49ers rectify their dispute right now in terms of a contract with Trent Williams? Yeah, you know, I'm not really the numbers guy. I'm more of the word guy, English major. But, you know, I think it's some combination of adding years to his contract and lowering the cap hit this year and just giving him more peace of mind for the future. You know, which was the question the last time they reworked this deal a couple of years ago. What was he 35 at that time and they were wondering, oh, you know, how is this guy going to be when he's 36 and 37. Well, the answer is pretty good. So I think that that that kind of helps.

I mean, you know, he didn't hit a cliff. He didn't hit a wall. In fact, he played a lot more this season this past season that he had in a long time. I think it was his most snaps since 2013 when he was in in Washington. So even sort of the the injuries that have kept him out of games here and there in previous years didn't really hit hard this past year. Bottom line, it's a it's a great year for Trent Williams to talk about a rework contract. A few more minutes here with Matt Barrows. What do you make of Kyle Shanahan and other coaches not going to the NFL combine and somewhat of that recent trend? And I know that this isn't necessarily new news, but I did read that piece in the athletic about how John Schneider was so impressed with Robert Turban at that time by an interview. I know that Casey Concepcion's a player that might be there at 27 for the Niners. And he's been the fan favorite because of how he's spoken and opened up about his challenges with the speech impediment.

And so I guess with all that in mind, I think that you know, the 49ers are really trying to value guys of high character. Michael Williams was one of those were in a lineman full of defensive tackles and defensive ends. He was someone that did not have a history of off the field issues and I know that really spoke to them. So do you think that it really is not a big deal at all because there's other opportunities or just kind of want to get your thoughts on that being more of a recent trend? Yeah, I mean, the coaching staff doesn't go to Indy, but the scouting staff does. So, you know, John Lynch was there to talk to Casey Concepcion and his whole staff. So they're getting those vibes, you know, how Shanahan has told me in the past. He doesn't go because he just thinks that it's a more valuable use of his and his coach's time to really start to bear down on the college film on these guys.

So that when Lynch and his staff comes back and they start to sit down in March and April and go over these players that the coaches are familiar with them. And so that would get, you know, delayed a little bit, even there would be a benefit because you're right. The coaches would be face to face with some of these guys, but they wouldn't be as far along as the film evaluation. So, bottom line is that Shanahan and his staff are valuing film study over face to face type of stuff. And I will say that, you know, of the teams that I've covered and my guess is around the league. This is a organization that, you know, in which the scouts and the coaches work really hand in hand. And, you know, the scouts acquiesce to the coaches.

The scouts want to know exactly what the coaches are looking for in players. And so they're coming back from the combine and they already have a good idea of this. But once this starts an earnest, they have an idea of which guys, Chris Koserick is going to like which guys Bobby Turner is going to like and so on and so forth. And I do think that that has worked their advantage in the past. Now, some of these recent drafts haven't been great. I mean, I think that they've found some good players in the last two drafts. But, you know, George Kiddell types, Fred Warner types, franchise type players. I'm not sure that those guys have come. They need those guys if they're going to keep pace with the Rams and the Seahawks. Matt, that kind of leads to my final question for you. I mean, where would you gauge the pressure level on the Niners specifically to hit on the early drafts?

The early draft picks and more specifically, just guys that could come in and be an impact immediately, you know, in comparison to maybe other years, because this team was was 12 and 5. But I think you could make the case that they have more holes than your normal 12 and 5 team going into 2026. Yeah, I agree with you. I mean, I think they're at a point where they just can't draft good guys, you know, role players, you know, he's he's a solid player. They need to need to hit. And what's interesting is that when they've done that in the past, it hasn't been their early picks. I mean, there've been some good early picks. You know, Brandon IU, Debo Samuel, those are first and second round guys. But the real superstars on this team have either come from other teams. Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, where have come in the mid rounds. Fred Warner, the Amador, the nor George Kittle.

So, I mean, you know, there's a lock element in that as well. And they just haven't been able to kind of rediscover that that knack for finding that diamond and the rough. There have been some good players, you know, there are some players that, you know, the script still is being written. I think that Dominic Cooney, for example, is going to be a really, really outstanding guard. And 49ers are going to have a big decision on their hand in a couple of years because they usually don't pay a lot of money for their guards. But Cooney is his homegrown. He's everything that you want. Smart plays through injuries, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. So, you know, there are some really nice picks that they've made. But, you know, not, you know, George Kittle is a Hall of Famer. Fred Warner is a possible Hall of Famer.

So, it's just hard to kind of compare that with, you know, some of these other players that they've gotten in recent years. Just to finish out here, who would you say your biggest name or names to watch are as potential targets for the 49ers coming into next week? I know that you and TK got into John Franklin Myers from Denver as a possibility. We've been talking all about the wide receivers, but we're probably not going to talk to you between now and the next time that we get some real news on this. So, I just want to leave you with a chance to give us a hard hitting prediction or something. Yeah, if I hit on any of them, please replay this. But if I miss this, this interview just sort of floats off into the ether and is never heard of again. Well, going to sound nice for me. Exactly. Yeah, right. Scribe it to me, OK, I mean, I mentioned that Fred Hendricks and I think that Mike Evans is the wide receiver version of Hendricks and where they're in the conversation for him.

You know, kind of wanting to know where he is, you know, what what the number is going to be. I don't know if they ultimately pull the trigger on him. Like I said, I think that Romeo dobs to me kind of, you know, hits all of the points. Youth, you know, experience in the system, not going to cost a fortune. That's probably who they end up with, but my given is the X receiver that that they need. I mean, that that's missing from that offense that would kind of change things in a dramatic way. So my point is that I think they're going to just be hanging around that conversation. And when you do that, there's always a possibility that that you can pounce. All right. Well, we'll leave it right there and we appreciate your time as always. We'll do the Matt Barrow's replay for everybody tomorrow right over the audio of Matt Meoco.
