New Eateries, Closing Stores: Birmingham's Evolving Food Scene

0:00In Birmingham, it's March 2nd. Here's what is happening. Birmingham's business scene is buzzing with fresh spots opening up around town. The filling station, a popular neighborhood eatery, just expanded to Gardendale right next to UAB Medicine and some hotels. Yellowhammer Creative also relocated to Trim Tab Brewing, where you can now watch screen printing and action at their new warehouse and retail space. Meanwhile, Quodoba Mexican eats launched its second Birmingham spot in Hoover off Montgomery Highway, offering fast casual Mexican after opening near UAB late last year. Einstein Bros. Bagels debuted on Highway 280 at Cahaba Park Circle, bringing bagels, sandwiches, and coffee from its over 600 nationwide. Locations? Open daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Big John Buffett is set to open this spring in West Homewood, taking over a spot that set empty since Cantina Tortilla Grill closed. Owner John Yoon brings over 20 years of family restaurant experience, including past spots like Mom's Deli, serving up Southern comfort foods.

1:05On the flip side, a few locals are signing off. Vineyard Vines shed its summit store after 14 years of preppy clothes. Cahaba closed in Homewood, Soho, leaving other area spots open.
